Question on templates

Hi Guys,
I have a template on my site. when i do changes on my local
copy, it asks me to update all files. How can i update all the
files on my remote server by just changing the template? is it
possible? Even if i'm in remote view and i do the changes directly
on my server, it will ask me to update the files, but only does it
on my local server!

You don't get it.
Templates do make your life much easier. I use the following
scheme....
First, I mentally separate the page layout into three
sections:
1. Stuff that will not change for the life of the site (i.e.,
the basic
structural elements)
2. Stuff that *could* change from time to time (e.g.,
navigation elements,
burst advertisements, section-specific navigation, etc.)
3. Stuff that *will* change from one page to the next
Then I create a template containing all class1 elements. Next
I create
server-side include files containing all class 2 elements and
place them on
the template as needed. Note - some of the class 2 elements
may be
"section-specific elements", and their placement on the
template will be
subject to the next item. Finally, I insert editable regions
to cover the
class 3 items, INCLUDING the section-specific navigation.
This allows me to just cookie-cut the rest of the site. I
estimate that
even for fairly large sites, about 80% of my work goes into
planning and
creating this template file.

  • Few questions on Templates and Favorites

    Experts,
Few fundamental questions on Templates and Favorites...
    1) Can Favorites be shared with other users?
    2) Can Templates be transported across systems (Dev or QA or PRD) ?
    3) Can Templates be shared across planning area ( Yes, KF names are same across planning area?
    Any insights appreciated!!!
    Thanks
    Krishna

    Hello Krishna
    1. No, favorites are user specific and are not shared. Templates are.
    2. There are no transports in the traditional sense in S&OP. So a Template can't really be transported. What you can do, however, is open a Template in DEV, for example, then log off and log back on - just this time to QA or PRD. This assumes you have the same planning area, KF etc.in each system. Now you can add it to the templates in QA or PRD ... this is how you get it from one system to another.
    3. I believe they are not shared between planning areas. If you make a planning area copy, I think they might come over but if you built a new PA2 from scratch, the ones you have in PA1 won't be there. If you want to get a planning view template from one PA to another, you basically follow the steps as in my answer to your second question. Again, for sharing a planning view Template between Planning Areas the attributes, time profiel and key figures you use have to be the same.
    Hope this helps,

  • Question Slide Templates and importing

I have a template with question slides and I've
saved it as a cp file. I then attempted to import slides and
objects from another project. It appears to be importing, and then
the only slides I have are the originals. None of the new slides
    appear. ???

    Hi there mfubib
Creating a template is simple. You may create one from
scratch or you may choose to take any existing project and save it
    as a template.
To create one from scratch, click File > Record/Create
    > New Project... > Other. You then set the size and whatnot
and eventually end up in the editing environment. You then add the
elements that you wish to have in your template. Once your template
looks like you want, you follow what is outlined in the next
    section.
To save any existing project as a template, click File >
Save As... and when the Save As dialog appears, click the drop-down
menu at the bottom and choose "Adobe Captivate Templates (*.cptl).
I'm not sure what you mean with "Additional flexibility with
question slide template with Captivate 3". There is no "template"
per se. What we see with Captivate 3 and question slides is that we
may now copy, paste, import and export Question slides. We may also
randomize them by creating question pools and drawing random
questions based on the pool. We may also shuffle answers as well as
customize the buttons used. But that's about it as far as I can
recall. Perhaps if you are able to articulate more about what it is
you are wanting to do, we might better answer the question.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Question re templates and workflow

I have an elementary question, as I've recently taken charge of a Captivate project in progress. (I will not be doing the Captivate programming).
    Is the following workflow possible:
    1. Create a template for an on-line course which is composed of 4 modules, each with several lessons, videos and quizzes.
    2. Using Captivate, build the course with content (graphics, animations, videos, quizzes).
    3. Edit the original template. (e.g. by changing screen-to-screen navigation options, interaction with the LMS, etc)
    4. Apply the changed template to the already-built course, and have the course update automatically to reflect the changed aspects of the template.
I am receiving conflicting opinions as to whether this workflow is possible.
    Any clarifications most gratefully received.

    Lilybiri
    Thanks for your (prompt!) response.
This is bad news for our project, becuase I had hoped to get one guy building the slides and quizzes, while simultaneously another guy figures out how to get the course programmed and working on SABA.
    Thanks again!

  • Question regarding templates

I am currently reading the JDeveloper Handbook, and one of the first things it has me do in Creating the Application Workspace is to select the "Java Application [Default]" template; and this template utilizes ADF Business Components and ADF JClient.
The questions I have with this are that:
    a) I don't have a Java Application [Default] selection in the dropdown nor when I look in 'Manage Templates'
    b) Even when I look in Manage Templates, I don't see anything that looks like ADF JClient.
Is this something where the name changed, or do I need to download something to add to the JDeveloper install [like an add-in or such].
I am obviously new to this, so any help would be appreciated. If this build information helps, this is what I have:
    Studio Edition Version 10.1.3.1.0.3984
    Build JDEVADF_10.1.3.1.0_NT_061009.1404.3984
    ADF Business Components     10.1.3.39.84
    Thanks.
    Matt

The names have changed since version 10.1.2 (for which the book you are reading was written) - now it is Java Application [Swing, ADF BC]
By the way, if this one doesn't appear in your version make sure you are using the studio edition of JDeveloper and not another one.

  • Copyright question (Motion templates)

    Hi,
Is the footage used in Motion templates free for use? I want to use the fire and the sky sequences from Motion 1.0 in a music video. Can I do that?
    Thanks

My understanding is that they are royalty free clips - much like the sound effect loops provided in Sound Track Pro (gosh - if they're not I may be in trouble...)

Your drive is probably toast. Compare your SmartData stats with mine:
    Retracts: 844
    *Reallocs: 12*
    *Pending Sectors: 0*
    PowerOn Hours: 2037
    Starts/Stops: 830
    Temp: Current 29c
    Temp: Min 10c
    Temp: Max 50C
I've only 12 remapped sectors and none pending. From the Wikipedia S.M.A.R.T. article:
    *Reallocated Sectors Count*
Count of reallocated sectors. When the hard drive finds a read/write/verification error, it marks this sector as "reallocated" and transfers data to a special reserved area (spare area). This process is also known as remapping, and "reallocated" sectors are called remaps. This is why, on modern hard disks, "bad blocks" cannot be found while testing the surface – all bad blocks are hidden in reallocated sectors. However, as the number of reallocated sectors increases, the read/write speed tends to decrease. The raw value normally represents a count of the number of bad sectors that have been found and remapped. Thus, the higher the attribute value, the more sectors the drive has had to reallocate.
    *Pending sector count*
Number of "unstable" sectors (waiting to be remapped, because of read errors). If an unstable sector is subsequently written or read successfully, this value is decreased and the sector is not remapped. Read errors on a sector will not remap the sector (since it might be readable later); instead, the drive firmware remembers that the sector needs to be remapped, and remaps it the next time it's written.
I'm sure you'll find the counts go up if you try to do a surface scanning disk check. Sorry it's not better news but at least you know where the problem lies. Assuming your iPod is out of warranty it's probably time to get your iPod refurbished with a new drive or to buy a new iPod.

  • Quick CSS question on templates

    Hi
    I use Dreamweaver CS4,
Created a template & made the site based on it (taammevorach.com)
I want to create the menu in an editable region but i'm a bit confused how I would do so.
Can I create another css file just for that editable region? is that what is recommended? what would be the best way about creating a menu with some pictures and prices formatted neatly WITHIN that editable region
    I'm VERY new to templates
    Thanks!

Another approach is to use Server-Side-Includes, either alone or in combination with DWTemplates.  The main advantage to SSIs is that when you need to edit your navigation, you open one file, make changes, upload to server, done.  All the magic happens on the server side.

  • Question on templates and updating linked files

OK I have a master template file. Let's say it is named
a.dwt. I used a.dwt to create another template (b.dwt) that had
more content on it than a.dwt. I would use b.dwt to create a group
of similar looking pages which still had all the elements of a.dwt
but also the additional content of b.dwt.
Now if I make a change to the a.dwt template, all pages
created from a.dwt change except b.dwt. So either I forgot to
create the b.dwt by going to file->new->page from
template->and then save it as a .dwt OR maybe it's not possible
to have a secondary template that gets updated when the first
template gets updated thus causing all pages from the secondary
    template to get updated?
Is there any way to go back and make b.dwt update
automatically whenever a.dwt gets updated? The scenario I have
right now is that I have to make certain site changes on both a.dwt
and b.dwt instead of just making the change on a.dwt and that
change flowing into b.dwt and its spawned pages.

    >I think what possibly happened is that I opened a.dwt and
    then made the
    > addition of the form element to a.dwt but then simply
    saved as b.dwt

    Yes, I think that's a possible scenario.
    > There will be about 15 pages that will look the same
    (have the
    > same form) except that at the top it will say "Send mail
    to Person X"
    > where
    > Person X will change.
I see. Are you using "mailto:" on each of those forms? This
    method of
sending form data is notioriously unreliable, you know? It
    depends on a)
your visitor's browser knowing what to do with such a link,
    and b) your
visitor's email client knowing what to do with such a link,
    and c) your
visitor not being put off by the security alert message that
    may pop up when
they click. Nevermind the fact that it fails completely in
    public locations
that do not have an email client installed.
Why not do this the right way with server scripting? In that
    case you could
have a single page with a single form, and let the visitor
    select a name as
the recipient from a list/menu field.

I am creating adapter to ADAM using template "OAM/ADAM Adapter with Mapper" in OVD 11.1.1.7.0 using ODSM.

  • Template Questions

I have a question about templates for my site to display my
    artwork.
I would like to have a top level template with some text
across the top of the screen - these would be years: 2006 2005
    2004...
If the user clicks on one of these years, I would like a
second line of text (according to the year) to appear: paintings,
drawings, photographs... Different years will have different
subjects. Each of the years would be created from a nested
    template.
The user could then click on painting or drawing and a series
    of thumbnails would pop up.
My problem: I would like to use templates so that I could add
years later without having to add it in each page of the site - but
I would also like the viewer to have some idea of which year and
subject they are viewing - so that when they come to the site,
click 2006, then paintings, they page will have 2006 and paintings
slightly darker than the other years and subjects to remind them of
where they are. Is this impossible with templates? It seems like if
I have each year link to a separate page with a darkened year that
I won't be able to use a top level template at all... Should I use
    frames instead?
Here is what I am working with (I plan to reverse the
locations of the subjects and years) - as you can see, there is no
way to know, just by looking, what year and subject are chosen:
    http://www.carlosferguson.com/new%20site/Pages/Paintings/Paintings%202006%20Group%201.htm
Thank you very kindly for any help!
    Carlos

    > Wouldn't I have to go through each
    > page individually and add that year to each?
Not if the year display were either part of the template's
    non-editable
region, or were part of a server-side include.
    > I can't make one of the years or subjects darker than
    the
    > others (as these areas have to be un-editable regions in
    order to take
    > advantage of the template's possibilities.
    Sure you can.
It's easy to do with CSS or with javascript.
With CSS you would have a little stylesheet embedded in the
    head of each
page that allows you to set the down state for any given
    button (each button
would have a unique id - for example -
    <a href="foo.html" id="button1">...<a
    href="bar.html" id="button2">
and then your stylesheet would have this -
    a#button1 { styles }
on one page, and on another this -
    a#button2 { styles }
    See how that works?
With javascript, put this in script tags in the head of the
    document -
    function P7_downImage() {
    var g7="<imagename>"
    var g7url="<pathname>"
    if ((g7=MM_findObj(g7))!=null) {g7.src=g7url;}
and this on the <body> tag
    onload="P7_downImage()"
Then on each page you would need to make two edits:
Set g7 to the *name* of the button (not the file name but the
    HTML name -
e.g., "productsbutt" - without the brackets), and g7url to
    the pathname to
    the button (e.g.,
"images/nav/button3.gif" - without the brackets), and bada
    bing, bada boom!
There is an excellent tutorial here -

  • How to create a basic starting template for ICE-use?

    Hello BC forum,
I have a question regarding templates in combination with the new ICE-editor (InContext edit). Plese be aware of that the question is related to the new ICE-editor, not the old flash-based editor.
Please keep http://foretagskontakt.businesscatalyst.com/om-foretagskontakt open in your browser to see a copy of the template I have built.
My customer needs to be able to create new editable sub pages. All subpages need to share the same template but with different text and img in the dark blue area. Under that area we have a 2-col layout who also needs to be changed from page to page. All is made editable using ICE tag for BC. When my customer creates a new page they need to have this basic layout set up so they can start editing in the ICE-editor without the hassle of copying HTML using the old WYSIWYG. The problem: If I apply the dark blue area and some lorem ipsum in a template they keep editing the template and not the page. Can a customer create a new page using my template but edit only the content on that page in ICE-mode?
    Thank you.

I guess my mistake is that i have created a country grouping EG for Egypt wheere i should have used 99 - international.

  • Crystal Report Template

    Hello Everyone,
I have a question on templates in crystal reports. Can we create a template in a way that a set of reports point to this template and any change made to this template will be reflected in all these reports ?
    Thanks,
    Abhi

Not that I am aware of this. Plus you would not want that because if you create a report from the template and you made slight changes from the original template it could skew reports that have been changed slightly from the original template. That means you would have to open every report to make sure your reports still work correctly.

  • Document for template regions

    Hi,
I have created a custom template. Base class I have chosen as Reports Region. I want to use the substitution strings in my template but is there any document which would tell me with the help of a demo or a diagram where in each template is sub region section , title section, buttons' positions etc? or
If I have to create and then get to know , how do I create a sub region in a page with Reports Region Template?
    Can anyone please guide me?
I am using Apex version 4.2.2.00.11.
    Thanks in Advance

I'm not sure there is an answer to this question.
Templates are there so you can create your own versions of what a region looks like.
Are you confusing sub regions with the 'Parent region' attribute on the region properties?
