Questions on firmware

Hi,
i have to install bootcamp on an older macbook pro (MacBook Pro2,2 Model Number A1211, Core2 Duo 2.33). The bootcamp assistant docs tells me to update my firmware to the latest version...
My questions:
1. are firmware updates done by software updates (i suppose: not...)
2. how do i find the latest firmware for my model?
My Boot-ROM-Version is MBP22.00A5.B07
My SMC Version is 1.12f5
I downloaded Mactracker which tells me about an MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.4. If i follow the link to the apple site for this update, it says that after updating, my Boot-ROM version will be MBP21.00A5.B07 or MBP22.00A5.B07 (which i have).
Regards,
Sepp

1. Yes
2. Run Software Update. if you need an update, it will tell you.

  • Simple question about firmware 2.0? Please answer.

Ok I have a macbook air and toshiba laptop and got myself a ipod touch. If I update my ipod touch firmware to 2.0 on macbook air for 13.99 NZ$ do I have to pay another 13.99 NZ$ if I tend to sync my touch with laptop in the future?

    Thank you so much
Just one last question? What does authorization do to the computer or music? I have some music I never paid for if you know what I mean. By authorizing will all that music be deleted?

  • Questions about firmware & compatibility

    What's goin on guys,
    I have a iBook Blueberry 300 MHz PowerPC G3; 288 MB Memory; 3.1.2f4 bootRom; and i'm running Mac OS X 10.3.9.
My first question is: Do I really even need to upgrade my firmware? I've read through about 25 pages of the forum so far, and I've seen it suggested more than a few times.
My second question: I have tried relentlessly to watch streaming video on this Mac. It simply will not work. I downloaded the latest FlashPlayer, updated my Java settings, checked my internet connection speed, and it simply will not work. I'm beginning to think that 300 MHz just isn't a fast enough processor to handle streaming media. Is this true? Are there any updates (besides hardware upgrades) that I can try?

    Yes, this is correct.
Unfortunately, almost all G3 machines studder with streaming video. Especially the older ones -- even the 466 Mhz iBook studders a good bit with video. The reason for this is that the processor can't keep up and process the information. That's the main reason I found when I was researching the topic!
It's really not because of the graphics card, which many believe is the reason.
Keep on enjoying your clamshell, Miles

  • WRT160Nv2 questions - no firmware upgrades?

I just bought a WRT160Nv2 today, and although setting it up was very easy and quick..there's a couple of things I'm curious about...
    a) When I look for firmware upgrades, it only shows Version 1 and 3...not 2..why is that?? (I have version 2.0.02 build 008 Jul 27, 2008)
    b) Why is there no Wide-40MHz option in the Radio Band even though the 'help' clearly mentions it?? Is this a reason why I don't really notice a big difference in the range improvement over my old router? (Belkin 54g + another Belkin 54g router configured as AP) I have currently set the mode to MIXED, Radio Band to Standard 20MHz, and Standard channel on AUTO.
Will the Wide Channel only apply if I have Wireless-N devices on the network?
    Oh and I have a follow-up 3rd question:
    c) I have a WiFi capable mobile phone (Nokia E65) which has 802.11b capability, and so far I have not been able to get it to work with the new router. I currently have a 11b device (the phone I mentioned), 2-3 11g devices, and I've just bought a Wireless-N adapter (WUSB600N) which I'll be using on a desktop...I'm just wondering what will happen when all three types of devices are going to be used, and if they'll all be able to work together without detriment to another (I guess mainly if the 11b phone will be usable when the N-device is active)
Message Edited by deep_schismic on 05-27-2009 02:20 PM

Yes, your router does not have a Wide-40MHz option in the Radio Band...You should try to change the Standard Channel to 1/9/11 and see the difference, also you can change the Beacon Interval to 75, Fragmentation Threshold to 2304 and RTS Threshold to 2304 under Advanced Wireless Settings to improve wireless range...

  • A Question About Firmware For Creative MuVo TX

    1. How Can I Take Backup Of My Orginal Firmware From My Player ?
My Firmware version Is .20, And I Want To Take Backup Of It Before Upgrading It To .24.
    2. What Is The Worst Condition If The Firmware Upgrade Is Halted By Any Error Or By Some Problems ? Can Player Work Again Without Contacting Any Service Center ?
Does Sound Quality Of TX FM Increases After Doing Firmware Upgrade ?
Does The FM Radio Becomes More Clear After Firmware Upgrade ?

If you want to use the software on the new machine then the new machine needs to be a Mac and you need to deactivate the software (use Help -> Deactivate) on one of the two current installations so that you have an activation available for the new machine.
I am assuming you meant CS5.5, not CC 5.5, and that you have a single user license, not two licenses... a single user license allows you to have two activated installations.  If you do actually have two licenses then you should be able to use them with four different machines.

  • A question on firmware numbering conventi

When I updated the firmware on my MuVo TX, the "new" firmware was .0.05, but the old version was something like ..04. As the first numbers for the former (.0) were lower than the latter (.) I wondered if the new firmware was out of date, in spite of having new features.
However, I then figured out an explaination and I'm just checking to see if it's correct; is the firmware version number based on the date it was finished (or released, or whatever)? As in, the new firmware is from January 2005, and the old firmware is from November 2004. Just a small query but I thought I'd ask.

Hmm, well it didn't seem to have Cue/Review as an option, and I wasn't informed that I was using out-of-date firmware when I ran the updater, so hopefully I didn't just downgrade my firmware. <_< >_>
I doubt it'd be a big issue anyway.Message Edited by Sockatume on 06-9-2005 :04 PM

  • Question: update firmware to my phone

If i update me firmware, that will change my IMEI or not?
    P.S. Nokia N91-4GB

    No it will not.
Youre IMEI will remain the same.
The best way to get a quick response is to use the boards. Please do not be offended if I don't answer emails immediately.

  • Pio 110D on the way....question regarding firmware

I finally pull the trigger and ordered a Pioneer 110D from OWC (along with 2GB ram, too!). Obviously I won't know what firmware it has until I get it hooked up, but I wanted to be prepared to upgrade it in the meantime.
I found the DVRFlash utility, but can only seem to locate a firmware updater for WIndows with the lastest 1.39 firmware. I have access to a PC that I could put the drive in to flash if needed, but I'm not sure this would be the best option. If I can't find that firware for DVRFlash, it's my only option, though!!
Anyone give me pointers on this or thoughts? Thanks.

The firware that's listed for Windows on Pioneer's site is the one you want. They label it as Windows since the download contains the firmware files (two of them) and a Windows-only program to perform the flash. Because the flash program Pioneer provides is Windows-only, that's why we have to resort to using the DVRFlash utility.
When you download the .exe file from Pioneer, you'll probably have to use Stuffit Expander to decompress the file. You'll end up with a folder that contains the three files mentioned above. Move the two firmware files (They probably end in .139 or something) into the same folder as the DVRFlash executable. Then, just follow the instructions that came with DVRFlash and you should be good to go.
Make sure you're using DVRFlash version 2.2. The GUI version, DVRFlashX, is only at version 2.1 and doesn't support the DVR-110D.
The 1.39 firmware must only be a few days old. I had looked last week and it was still at 1.37.
    Hope this helps.

  • 2ng Gen Nano - Honda Music Link Question (new Firmware)

I've got an 8gb Nano with firmware 1.0.2 which works just fine in my 2006 Pilot with the Honda Music Link. Does anyone know if the latest firmware, 1.1.2 works with it as well? I believe that 1.1.1 did not work with the Link.

Nobody is being shy...I really think that nobody in these forums knows.
I would contact Honda. They should be able to tell you.

  • Question about firmware

On my Quicksilver, when I upgraded the CPU I had to run the firmware updater, and I was wondering if for some reason I have to reset the firmware will I lose the update on the firmware?
I'm just asking so I know if I need to keep the old 800MHz CPU for anything.

As far as I am aware there isn't any (desirable) way to reset the firmware that gets installed by a firmware upgrade of the kind you did. There's just resetting commands you may have entered in the open firmware command entry window which would get deleted with resetting nvram.

The firmware update corrects an error that may occur, however the techs would have checked the condition of the battery prior to installing a new one.  If the battery was questionable, the firmware update was really not too important.
You can check the battery condition by going to the apple, left side of the menu bar, About This Mac, More Info, System Report, Hardware, Power and see what it says about Cycle Count, Condition, Capacity: Condition anything but Normal needs to be checked and may need to be replaced.
The cycle count of 1,000 charge cycles is the typical life of a Lithium-Ion battery, the point at which the capacity drops to 80% of the as built capacity.

  • Firmware Updates

    Hello All.
i noticed there are a lot of questions on Firmware Updating. Well, some of you in range of a Carphone Warehouse might finds it's worth checking their website to see if their store is listed as an express repair point.
I'm due to zip down there on Thursday with my 6630, Firmware 4. something and it'll be flashed to version 8.x - and since i've had it unlocked by Orange, they've said that the warranty is in tact, (beware market unlocks!) so they can do it free of charge, and they'll get rid of the Orange muck that's on there.
Just have your receipt, unlock letter and phone (previously backed up) and ring ahead to arrange a suitable time. Most of them prefer a pre-booking service, but since i've only 1 chance left to have my handset updated before i go on my holiday to Australia, they said if i come down in the afternoon, they could do it in 60 to 90 minutes.
Most of the express points are Club Nokia service points too, but for some reason don't like showing up on the search system (agreement perhaps?)
Oh, and before you start with "I didn't buy my phone at Carphone Warehouse" - you don't need to have! I bought my 6630 from The Link and they'll still do it =D
Hope that helps some of you guys outMessage Edited by jaydrive2000 on 11-Jun-2006

Nah, the unlock wasn't just to roam in Oz anyway - i don't like Orange, and i've seen quite a few others on here who don't like orange for similar reasons.
My experience leads me back to Vodafone, as an N-Gager their GPRS connection is pretty solid where i live. Besides, after ordering a free sim card that will be activated with 2 x 500 text packs for free after a few weeks will do me nicely =)
I can see my pay as you go balance on the screen, where i have to dial a number to have it read to me on most other networks.
the other thing is that if i need to, i could put a local sim card from Oz in, and my family and relatives can get hold of me whilst i'm out and about.
As for loading on generic firmware, that's a little contradictory to what i've been told by Carphone Warehouse, so I will have to check that out before i let them flash. It seems a little pointless as my phone is in warranty (till Jan 7th 07) and then to have the latest update (which get's rid of the bugs) would void the warranty.
Thanks for the heads up tho =)
