Questions on process chains

Hai all,
I have two questions on Process chains.
1. I created a process chain for master data and a process chain for data loads(with ODS and cube). As the Master data has to be loaded first before loading transaction data, can I include the Master data process chain as a local process chain soon after the start process and then only after loading master data, the system proceeds to transaction data?
2. I designed a process chain with the aggreagtion and compression of cube data. I have forgot to check the option delete overlapping requests in the infopackage to load the infocube. I ran the process chain and now there are 2 requests and the duplicate documents. I want to delete the recent request and check the deleting duplicate requests option in info package and re run. The problem is the system is not allowing me to delete the recent request.

Thanks for the reply. I am sceduling the request for deletion in the Manage infocube> but the request is not getting deleted. Everytime I click refresh, the delete icon disappears and the screen becomes as it was before scheduing the deletion. I checked after sometime, even then the same thing...
I wonder the collpased requests can not be deleted???

1.Procedure for repeat delta?
You need to make the request status to Red in monitor screen and then delete it from ODS/Cube. Then when you open infopackage again, system will prompt you for repeat delta.
also.....
Goto RSA7->F2->Update Mode--->Delta Repetation
Delta repeation is done based on type of upload you are carrying on.
1. if you are loading masterdata then most of the time you will change the QM status to red and then repeat the delta for the repeat of delta. the delta is allowed only if you make the changes.
and some times you need to do the RnD if the repeat of delta is not allowed even after the qm status id made to red. here you have to change the QM status to red.
If this is not the case, the source system and therefore also the extractor, have not yet received any information regarding the last delta and you must set the request to GREEN in the monitor using a QM action.
The system then requests a delta again since the last delta request has not yet occurred for the extractor.
Afterwards, you must reset the old request that you previously set to GREEN to RED since it was incorrect and it would otherwise be requested as a data target by an ODS.
Caution: If the termianted request was a REPEAT request itself, always set this to RED so that the system tries to carry out a repeat again.
To determine whether a delta or a repeat are to be requested, the system ONLY uses the status of the monitor.
It is irrelevant whether the request is updated in a data target somewhere.
When activating requests in an ODS, the system checks delta repeat requests for completeness and the correct sequence.
Each green delta/repeat request in the monitor that came from the same DataSource/source system combination must be updated in the ODS before activation, which means that in this case, you must set them back to RED in the monitor using a QM action when using the solution described above.
If the source of the data is a DataMart, it is not just the DELTARNR field that is relevant (in the roosprmsc table in the system in which the source DataMart is, which is usually your BW system since it is a Myself extraction in this case), rather the status of the request tabstrip control is relevant as well.
Therefore, after the last delta request has terminated, go to the administration of your data source and check whether the DataMart indicator is set for the request that you wanted to update last.
If this is NOT the case, you must NOT request a repeat since the system would also retransfer the data of the last delta but one.
This means, you must NOT start a delta InfoPackage which then would request a repeat because the monitor is still RED. For information about how to correct this problem, refer to the following section.
For more information about this, see also Note 873401.
Proceed as follows:
Delete the rest of this request from ALL updated data targets, set the terminated request to GREEN IN THE MONITOR and request a new DELTA.
Only if the DataMart indicator is set does the system carry out a repeat correctly and transfers only this data again.
This means, that only in this case can you leave the monitor status as it is and restart the delta InfoPackage. Then this creates a repeat request
In addition, you can generally also reset the DATAMART indicator and then work using a delta request after you have set the incorrect request to GREEN in the monitor.
Simply start the delta InfoPackage after you have reset the DATAMART indicator AND after you have set the last request that was terminated to GREEN in the monitor.
After the delta request has been carried out successfully, remember to reset the old incorrect request to RED since otherwise the problems mentioned above will occur when you activate the data in a target ODS.
What is process chain and how you used it?
A) Process chains are tool available in BW for Automation of upload of master data and transaction data while taking care of dependency between each processes.
B) In one of our scenario we wanted to upload wholesale price infoobject which will have wholesale price for all the material. Then we wanted to load transaction data. While loading transaction data to populate wholesale price, there was a look up in the update rule on this InfoObject masterdata table. This dependency of first uploading masterdata and then uploading transaction data was done through the process chain.
What is process chain and how you used it?
A) We have used process chains to automate the delta loading process. Once you are finished with your design and testing you can automate the processes listed in RSPC. I have a real time example in the attachment.

Process chains problems : Working every day with error (red)

Hi All,
I have a next question, about process chains problem.
When I start my process chains immediate, then working without errors, but I want this process chains work every day and chainged properties, selected date/time and periodicaly (every day) but now it work with error.
How to I find problems? What are yours offers?
p.s. I see logs, but every day have diffence between errors.

HI,
just check the time which you have given is OK or is overlappintg with some other job which is locking your table in process chain
or is colliding with attribute change run
or it fails because of lack of background processes.
There could be numerious reasons and you need to analyze the log for this.
But as you said the job is failing everday for different reasons..try to find the most common errors and try to remove it or mention that here.

Process Chain Assining for another source sytem

Hi Experts,
I have a quick question on process chain assining for another source sytem.
For Example. I have a Process chain with 10 Infiopackages. Letz say that Infopackage was assinged to one source system.
Now I wanna a create a new process chain which shoud be the replica of the existing process chain. I wanna to load the data for the same info packages thru another sources system. Can we do this or else we have to reassign the data source for new source system for every infosources.. Is this Possible.
Kindly guide me if there is any nother solution for this.

Hi..
ABAP routines are in place at infopack level or at the Transformation level?
If its there at the Transformation level then there wont be any issues for ur redesigning..
if its there at the IP level then u need to copy those things in ur new IP as per the requirement and change the things accordingly..
and then design the process chain..

Restarting Process chain from the middle

Hi all, I have a question about process chain in BW7.0.
When the error has occured in the process chain, is there any way to restart the process chain from where the error has occured?
One of the way I came up with was to set the process type into Repairable from Repeatable,but when I try to change the status,the warning message shows up and I can't change it.
Is this the right idea,or is there any other way to do it?
Can any one tell me?

First of all, find out the rootcause of the failure of the process step that failed and finish it manually. Then, go to the process chain...
Open the messages of a failed step by right clicking on it and selecting 'display messages'.
In the opened popup click on the tab 'Chain'.
In a parallel session goto transaction se16 for table rspcprocesslog and display the entries with the following selections:
1. copy the variant from the popup to the variante of table rspcprocesslog
2. copy the instance from the popup to the instance of table rspcprocesslog
3. copy the start date from the popup to the batchdate of table rspcprocesslog
Press F8 to display the entries of table rspcprocesslog.
Now open another session and goto transaction se37. Enter RSPC_PROCESS_FINISH as the name of the function module and run the fm in test mode.
Now copy the entries of table rspcprocesslog to the input parameters of the function module like described as follows:
1. rspcprocesslog-log_id -> i_logid
2. rspcprocesslog-type -> i_type
3. rspcprocesslog-variante -> i_variant
4. rspcprocesslog-instance -> i_instance
5. enter 'G' for parameter i_state (sets the status to green).
Now press F8 to run the fm.
Now the actual process will be set to green and the following process in the chain will be started and the chain can run to the end.
Of course you can also set the state of a specific step in the chain to any other possible value like 'R' = ended with errors, 'F' = finished, 'X' = cancelled ....
Check out the value help on field rspcprocesslog-state in transaction se16 for the possible values.

Questions on Multiprovider and Process Chain

Hai All,
          I have two questions. One on Multiprovider and the other on Process chain.
1. Multiprovider:
          For example, I have 2 ODSs. ODS1 has Objects ORDER NUMBER, COUNTRY and PRODUCT, ODS2 has objects ORDER NUMBER, DELIVERY STATUS, CREATION DATE.
Now if I make a multiprovider on ODS1 and ODS2, then as ORDER NUMBER is common in both the ODSs, can I make a report like this:
ORDER NUMBER - DELIVERY STATUS, CREATION DATE?
         I have a problem here bacuase its not getting those details from the other ODS even though the ORDER NUMBER(value) is same. Am I making nay mistake or is it a system problem.
I beleive thats how a Multiprovider works.
2. Process chain:
                I have an END connector in my process chain that connects 3 processes and lets the following task start only after the success of all the above 3 processes.
The system is displaying the END connector seperately under each process. But the name and everything else is same. Is this a setting somewhere in the process chain?

1. Those fields are in ODS2, you don't need to make a multiprovider.
2. You mean an AND connector. Maybe you need to refresh the screen. if this doesn't work, delete the three and connectors and insert a new one.

Process chain questions

           I designed a process chain with data flow like this:
R/3>ODS1>ODS2>Cube.
The process chain sequence is:
Start>>Load data>>activate ODS1 data>>load data to ODS2>>activate ODS2 data>>delete index>>load data to cube.
           My process chain is working and the data loads are good. But I am getting warning messages for all three variants "activate ODS1 data>>load data to ODS2>>activate ODS2 data>>"
The message for the two activation variants is as follows:
A type "Update ODS Object Data (Further Update)" process has to follow process "Activate ODS Object Data" var.ACTIVATEZMONDET in the chain
Message no. RSMPC016
The message for the loading variant is as follows:
A type "Activate ODS Object Data" process cannot precede process "Execute InfoPackage" var. ZPAK_3YF4Q8R0RSHTDJH74WZOAXBC6 in thechain
Message no. RSMPC013
           The version I am working on is BW 3.5. My question is it ok to have these warning messages or do I need to do anything else?

Hi Visu,
If you data loads are running fine, you can ignore the warning messages. The system tries to warn you in case it suspects that a process is missing from the chain of events required...but there are more than one ways to achieve a load. If the data volume to be loaded to the cube is not very high, like it is just a daily delta, you can even go ahead and remove the index deletion process.

Question about repeating in the process chain

        my DTP is set as "valid records update, no reporting (request red)", and put into a process chain. the process chain goes wrong on this DTP due to some erroneous records. my questions are:
   (1) based on DTP configuration, all the records are transferred to target successfully except for those erroneous records. is that right?
   (2) after I correct those erroneous records in PSA, I repeat this DTP process in the process chain. what exact data are transferred by this repeating operation on this DTP? do we need to take care of all the previously loaded data for this subsequent repeat loading ?

Yes. All the erroneous records go in the error stack and then you can fix the errorneous records there and execute the error DTP.This setting ensures, incorrect/incomplete data is not available for reporting.
(2) after I correct those erroneous records in PSA, I repeat this DTP process in the process chain. what exact data are transferred by this repeating operation on this DTP? do we need to take care of all the previously loaded data for this subsequent repeat loading ?
No records are transferred on repeating teh job. We need to manually set the status of request to Green.Yes we need to take care of all the subsequent steps.

PSA Deletion Process in Process Chains Transport Question

I am working on investigating a method of deleting PSA Requests this will be a stand alone process so no loads will be done in this process chain. My question I cannot use the Object Type of InfoPackage or DTP since these objects wont be in the Process Chain leaving me PSA Table option but since I will be developing this in Dev and transporting through environment into prod how will this be handled since PSA tables change from system to system? Does the system automatically translate it for me or will the value stay the same?

System will automatically identifies the table in quality and then in Production system. You do not have to worry. I had same question and I tested it with transporting the Process chain from developement to quality. In quality system automatically identified the table corresponding to data target/Master data.

Local Process Chain question

Dear Experts,
               A small quick question. If you have a local process chain, does it just create a dependency or does it execute the local process chain?
               We have a Master data process chain and another chain that loads transaction data. These 2 chains are different chains. Now what we want is to create a dependency. If I include the Master data as a local process chain, does it load the master data again?, which we don't want or just create a dependency saying that the transaction data starts only after the local chain status is complete?

                Thanks for the reply. We have the Master data chain running from a long time every day and the master data I need for my chain is part of it. We made another process chain for Transaction data that needs dependency on the master data thats part of the loading in the first chain. We don't want to control or change anything in the first chain as there are many other objects and other dependencies with other chains. Now if I include that whole Master data chain in my process chain and execute mine, does it execute the Master data chain also(the Master data chain is generally already executed by the time the second I mean transaction data chain start). So, in this case, is using the Master data chain as a local chain advisable?

IS the process type "delta infopackage " is executing in the process chain or not? Plz once check in SM37 Tcode . and Why r u running the repair full request infopackage . If u miss any delta records then only u have to run the repair full request . If delta records are not extracted then better to manually extract the delta infopackage.
Plz once check in SM37 Tcode whether the execute infopackage process step is running or not? or any error has occured in that PC.

Index in process chain question

Hi Experts,
I am creating a process chain with only 1 infopackage, do i need to add a "delete index" and "create index" variant in this chain or do i NOT need to do this because it is only one infopackage? Your advise is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Also note that if the number of data records to be loaded is small as compared to the total number of records already in the cube, then deleting and recreating (would affect load perf) but would take more time and resources than loading in the presence of these index.
If you like, search for some posts by Pizzaman...you will get a very good understanding of this topic.

Process Chain Question!

Hi all,
I have one process chain where Sales items, sales header, billing items, billing headers, delivery item and delivery header all go into 6 ODS objects correspondingly. All these processes raise an event and this is checked by an AND process. If AND is successful then I have another process that has to run. The problem is I am getting an error with the AND process everytime eventhough all the ODS are loading and also activating fine.
Below is the error message I am getting
This AND process is not waiting for event RSPROCESS, parameter 3WHYLT3XJU9D50P7IMMMHASKU
Job cancelled after system exception ERROR_MESSAGE
Does anyone know how I can debug and fix this....

in first run it And process doesn't give any error, but when I repair a load and make request green then It fails with following error message.

1. Can you tell me a bit more about function modules such as RSPC_CHAIN_ACTIVATE_REMOTE
2. What are function modules in general terms. i.e. What is their role?
3. How do I see all function module available?
4. When is function module used instead of ABAP program?
5. How do they help in the support and monitoring of Process Chains?
6. I am getting confused over the following under process chains job, event, function module and ABAP Program

Function module return a value ( most of the time), they return some value either a single value of rane of value or even a table. Example: FM to return fiscal period gieven the fiscal vaeiant and system date.
3. How do I see all function module available?
Go to Se37 and this is function builder. You will find FM starting with RS* more useful. You cna also create your own in Se37.
4. When is function module used instead of ABAP program?
In addtion to answer I gave in 3 above, program is used to check some logic and update some tables or give screen output.
You may note FM is also a program.
5. How do they help in the support and monitoring of Process Chains?
As I said, for monitoring chains, use Sm37 and logs in RSPC.
6. I am getting confused over the following under process chains job, event, function module and ABAP Program
I am not clear what are you looking for.
You cna schedule a FM or a program to run in a chain. Is that what you mean?
