Questions on WebCenter

All,
I have few questions on webcenter.
How easy/difficult is to integrate the content serach (UCM and Database + Discussion server) any pointers to resources/books is helppul.
How does the customization/personlization works in protal application and is it relatively straight forward to manage it, I mean exporting for runtime environment into Jdeveloper and then importing back into run times/ any pointers to resources/books please.
How best is skin handled in web center? Is it possible to departments have there own skin ann able to change it at run time and how much effrot is invloved in it?
I'll appreciiate if you guys can point to effort involved for a individual who has understanding of these concepts but it will his forst project!!

1) Check the below links

2) using oracle composer in webcenter you can achive the same, yes it uses MDS to store the runtime data to sync

3)yes its possbile to change the skins and temapletes at runtime, for the end the user its a matter of selecting the new skin/template at runtime using webcenter framework feature, coming to developers effort point of view it will take hardly 50 man hrs to develop the same(as per my exp),

  • Workflow Question in WebCenter 11g

Hi all, I'm new in Oracle Product. So I don't have any ADF knowledge. My boss ask me to create a workflow for a folder in a WebCenter 11g Space. He wants the document only visible to the author and approver after uploaded. Once the document be approved, it will be visible to all. Or if the document is rejected, it will only visible to the author. May I know is it hard to create this kind of workflow? Any ADF knowledge need? Many Thanks.

Check workflow functionality in WebCenter Content: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/doc.1111/e10978/c05_workflows.htm#sthref203
It requires no ADF knowledge - if you want some additional customizations (most likely not needed in your case), you might need idocScript, WCC's proprietary scripting language - the link above should give you enough details.
He wants the document only visible to the author and approver after uploaded. Once the document be approved, it will be visible to all. Or if the document is rejected, it will only visible to the author.Speaking about WebCenter Content it works like that out of the box. You mentioned, however, that your workflow will be operated from WebCenter Portal: Spaces. In fact, (and that's the question to WebCenter Portal forum) I'm not sure if Portal's task flows that are responsible for integration with Content repository, such as Document Explorer, take this into account. I think I have seen a thread which discussed that all items were displayed. This can be easily verified. On the other hand, it that comes true, you'd have to customize the WebCenter Portal task flows (and there ADF would be necessary).

  • Question about webcenter content installation

    Hi all
I am installing webcenter content 11.1.1.8 with weblogic 10.3.6.
After creating a domain which contains webcenter content server, i try to start weblogic server.
But the following error is raised and weblogic server cannot be started.
    java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space

                    at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass(ClassLoader.java:634)
                    at java.security.SecureClassLoader.defineClass(SecureClassLoader.java:142)
I have modified setDomainEnv.sh file as following, but the error is still raised.
    WLS_MEM_ARGS_64BIT = "-Xms2048m -Xmx2048m"
    WLS_MEM_ARGS_32BIT = "-Xms2048m -Xmx2048m"
    MEM_PERM_SIZE_64BIT = "-XX:PermSize=512m"
    MEM_PERM_SIZE_32BIT = "-XX:PermSize=512m"
    MEM_MAX_PERM_SIZE_64BIT = "-XX:PermSize=512m"
    MEM_MAX_PERM_SIZE_32BIT = "-XX:PermSize=512m"
    By the way, i use OEL6.3 64bit and JDK6.0.
Can anyone tell me how to resolve this problem?
    Thanks
    Qian

    Hi,
Thank you for your reply. i tried to increase the PermSize to 1024m, but it still failed.
So i use the latest jrokit instead of JDK, then the error is disappeared.
    Thanks

  • Customizing Webcenter components

    Hi,
We are building an application to manipulate content server objects and are thinking of two option: one is to use RIDC and build our own presentation tier. another is to use existing components such as Document Manager and customize them to suite our needs.
So far we have not been able to find enough documentation on how to customize these out of the box components. To give an example, When a document is uploaded, we requiire to populate metadata such as author name, security group the document belongs to and so on. Another example is when a document is created we want to attach a workflow to that document.
Are there any recommendations? If customizing existing taskflows is a better option, can you provide us links to the resources?
We have tried Oracle documentation and some of the blogs, and everytime we run in some exception or the other. I will refrain from posting those exceptions here as our developers have raised those questions in other threads.
    Thanks and Regards

This post contains many disputable points:

Having mentioned Document Manager of WebCenter Portal, you might want to create a WebCenter Framework-based app. I'm not sure if you can customize WebCenter task flows in such a way - nevertheless, this is definitely a question to WebCenter Portal forum.

I don't think you will be able to check-in an item without providing mandatory metadata (such as security group), and even changing them later is not exactly what you should do (even though it is possible). As for workflows, UCM can handle that for you without customizing the front-end. Maybe, you should get someone who has UCM experience and who would help you to construct the overall architecture.

  • ADF: a question about Dashboard...

    Hello everyone!
Suppose I have a dashboard with 2 columns and totally 4 portlets. The first row has portlets 1 and 2 , and the second one portlets 3 and 4.
My question here is the following: If I hide portlet 3, is it possible portlet 4 to expand so that it occupies the space of portlet 3 and 4?
    Thanks a lot!

    Hi,
if you talk about af:panelDashBoard the the answer is no. If your question is WebCenter / Portal related (as af:panelDashBoard can only host panel boxes) then you should ask again on teh Web Center forum

  • Webcenter sites integration with ATG

I have question on Webcenter sites and ATG integration.
We have to use webcenter sites as Web content management system that will feed the static content(text, images, videos, and other documents) to ATG. ATG will be acting as front end and host webpages. We have below two possibilities that we can think of
From Webcenter site we will use its APIs and expose web-services that ATG can consume to get the static contents. (requires lot of effort)
Webcenter site will publish content on the file system that ATG can link to and show them in a webpages. (relatively less effort)
Second solution looked good but there is no documentation that says it is possible. Only one document ‘cip_11gr1_for_file_systems_and_ms_sharepoint_administrator_guide.pdf’ explains
the pulling the data from file-system but it does not mention publishing to file-system.
Another document (webcenter_sites_11gr1_bp1_admin.pdf) that explains publishing to hard disk is template based publishing meaning, we will have to create templates which not a not intended way. since we don't want to create template just to publish.
My question is – is it possible that webcenter sites can to publish to file-system? If yes is there any document which can help us achieving that?
Will appreciate if you can suggest any other approach for integrating these two product.
    Thanks
    Sameer

    Hi Sameer -
OOTB you can publish assets directly to disk using Export to XML, but you realize that by doing that, you're essentially using Sites as a very expensive GUI over a database.  By using a combination of Java classes and JSPs you can create very rich markup (or XML, or JSON, or whatever you like) and render that, then export that data to disk.  That way you can traverse asset relationships and write much more complex data to disk for consumption by external systems.
As for your options of #1 vs #2, you need to think carefully about what your goals are for using Sites and for using ATG.  There are a number of other integration options between Sites and ATG, including the reverse of #1, which is to have Sites render most pages and then consume data from ATG in service form.  There is also the efficient and decoupled approach of standing up ATG and Sites side-by-side and selectively integrating components together.  So Sites would drive marketing content and ATG would drive commerce content, and the two would leverage service APIs between the two when needed (for example, to render an ATG promo in Sites, or to render a detailed product description from Sites in ATG).
Each approach has pros and cons and there is no Correct Way To Integrate ATG and Sites, but there are, as you can see, several common patterns.
    Hope this helps.
    Sincerely,
    Tony Field

  • Include the Content Released status flag in default WC data control

    Hi,
We have integrated custom webcenter portal application with UCM for documents integration. The integration was done using default data control. When we change the document which is getting displayed in the portal from UCM and check it into the system, wokflow gets triggered properly and the content status shows review status. But when we access the document in the portal, at that point of time new document is visible even though the content is still not released from the system.
Can anyone of you let me know how to include the released status of the content in the default data control so that we can avoid this situation
    Regards,
    Boopathy

First of all, I think this is more a question to WebCenter Portal, because it is how WebCenter Portal components are written.
Another thing is, that this is probably 'works as designed' and there might be good reasons for that. Since PS3, WebCenter (Portal) exposes some of UCM's functionality, among them ability to approve items in a workflow. This is the reason why it makes a good sense that items are available. Of course, they should be available only to approvers; also unapproved items should not appear if an item is displayed via Content Presenter (compare to a document published on a website via WCM). If you found such a behaviour, please, report it to MetaLink as it might be a bug.

I was trying to use spaces API and get this component in the resource catalog of the webcenter spaces. I am stuck in an exception and would request your support and expertise to come out of it.
I used spaces API’s, created data control of the java classes and created a bounded taskflow of the same.
I then downloaded the extendwebcenterspaces application and used the below white paper to customize the resource catalog.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/webcenter/owcs-r11-extend-spaces-wp-132596.pdf
After updating the catalog reference of the ADF Library Jar( taskflow converted to jar), in the resource catalog xml’s, I was able to create a new version of the webcenter spaces upon deployment and was able to see my taskflow in the resource catalog of the webcenter.
However, when I try to add the taskflow in my page, it gave me the below exception.
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: oracle/webcenter/spaces/ws/client/GroupSpaceWSContext
To get over this exception, I added spaces-webcenter-client.jar to the lib folder and deployment profile of CustomWebCenterSpacesWAR.
However, the exception still remained , though the required classes were added.
Can you please help me to solve the above exception.

  • Custom skin/style: portlet layout

    Hi!
I am building a WebCenter app with portlets on it. The page on which they are displayed is rendered using skinning and a custom style sheet.

  • Passing multiple parameters to a portlet

    Hi All,
I have created a portlet form a taskflow, and using the WSRP Producer connection I am adding this portlet into a new application's JSF page.
    1. Is it possible to create a portlet that can accept multiple parameters?
    2. is it possible to map a portlet method to a method in new app.
    3. is there some implicit event that can be passed when all of the parameters are passed to the portlet.
What my requirement is:- I have to send some 4-5(String) parameters from the new application to the portlet application.
what would be the sequence in which the setters of this parameters would be called in the Portlet app?
can you please tell me if this is possible, and how to do it. Some tutorial would help.
    Regards,
    ND

Your question is WebCenter related and you should ask it in the forum {forum:id=354}.
Anyway, you can pass multiple parameters to a portlet. Define the parameters as parameters of the corresponding bounded TaskFlow. When the taskflow is wrapped as a portlet producer by the JSF Portlet Bridge all the taskflow parameters will be exposed as separate navigational portlet parameters. If you consume the portlet at some page, then the portlet parameters will be bound to PageDef variables and you can use these variables to pass parameter values to the portlet. If you have to re-send new parameter values at runtime, just set the corresponding pageDef variables and refresh the <adfp:portlet> tag by PPR. Do not forget to mark the portlet's region binding in the PageDef as RefreshIfNeeded, otherwise it will not get the new values and will not refresh.
Look at the following article in the documentation about using navigational parameter for contextually linking of portlets:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/webcenter.1111/e10148/jpsdg_pages.htm#CHDJABHD
If you have additional questions, please ask them in the WebCenter forums.

  • Include In Head adaptive Tag and Webcenter Default CSS questions

Hello I'm fairly new to Webcenter
I`m currently working on a project that`s requiring us to do a lot of customizing of Templates and Stylesheets changes, I have a couple of questions I was hoping someone might be able to help me with.
    1) I want to inject some code into the page header of all webcenter pages. I understand that there is an adaptive tag "includeinhead", documented here:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13174_01/alui/devdoc/docs60/Portlets/Adaptive_Portlets/Using_Adaptive_Tags/plumtreedevdoc_integration_portlets_adaptive_namespacetoken.htm
This works, for the most part. However, for IE I would like to include the 'ie shim' which fixes behaviours for IE (adding things like border radius), etc...this code goes as follows:
    <!--[if lt IE 9]>
    <script src="//html5shiv.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/html5.js"></script>
    <![endif]-->
As you can see, there are 'comment' tags that are not really comments, but directives to IE to process the script. This unfortunately gets parsed out by webcenter because (I assume) it just sees the whole block as a comment...So I am wondering what can be done about this.
    2) I am wondering where the 'default' stylesheet that webcenter uses resides. By default, I am referring to the styles that get applied in the cases where tags are not defined in the skin file. I am having some difficulties around this because often Webcenter injects inline CSS into the controls where I don't really want it to... For example, in the "panel header" control, webcenter injects code for the title field and automatically sets the width of the cell. I would like to override this and control it completely.
    Thanks.

Is that really a big deal or is it ok .... ? I'm always thinking .... oh god how heavy that is , anytime you call up the page the browser has to go through all that first ... is it actually ok or are there any tricks or tips ?
It's always a good idea to worry about how heavy the LINKED files are since they contribute to the overall weight of the page.  The contribution of the links themselves, though, is negligable.  There is also benefit in managing the order in which those links appear.  Put CSS links first and follow them with javascript links (since the CSS will affect the page rendering, while the javascript most likely will not), so the browser can begin to render the page even while it's waiting for the js files to be fetched.
2 - Templates are great but If a spry is only needed on some pages, how do we handle that ? By setting up another template ? Or is there a better way ?
If you are applying Spry effects to a Template child page, DW is smart enough to drop those links into the editable region in the head of the page (which is what it should do).  Just make sure that the editable region falls BETWEEN your CSS links and your JS links to allow you to arrange things as mentioned above.  There is never a real need to have more than one Template per site.
3 - is it better to have 1 single compressed css file with ALL styles in it or various css files ?
There is a small performance hit everytime you have to go back to the server for another file.  So two pages of the same overall weight, one with 1 externally linked file, and the other with 10 externally linked files will show a difference in their download time.  How significant that difference is will depend on many variables, but it will be a real difference.  That being the case, it's always better to opt for a single file than multiple files.  Practically speaking, the difference will usually be small, especially when you consider how small these 'incremental' css files usually are....

  • SOA and WebCenter Questions in 1z0-554

I want to take the exam Oracle Application Development Framework 11g Essentials(1z0-554) soon.
I am comfortable with ADF Part of the syllabus.
However, there are two topics which require lot of software installation on my laptop to try them out. They are:
    1) Integrating with WebCenter
    2) ADF as part of SOA
Is it OK if I skip the above topics and go for the exam? How much percentage of questions are asked in the above two topics?
Is theory based knowledge sufficient for the above two topics?
    Any help is appreciated !!

I'll say this, never having taken 1z0-554, but having taken my fair share of certification exams during my 20+ year IT career and having done plenty of hiring and interviewing of people with and without certifications as well:
If it's possible to obtain an IT certification (such as this one) without having practical experience - the certification means absolutely nothing to me, except that you can read a book and memorise facts. I would hope that to be true of anyone in this industry. So, even if you were able to pass it without hands-on experience, a good interviewer would find out pretty quickly. As others have said - it's pretty easy to get a prebuilt VM or to spend the day doing the install to get the actual experience, which does add value to your skills.
I'm not saying it's bad to get certifications (sometimes we have to), but if you came to me for an interview on the basis of your certification, expect to be asked questions to identify whether you learned from a book or actually learned it hands-on.

  • WebCenter Spaces Security Model question

    Hi All,
I am working on WebCenter Spaces PS3. Wanted to check with forum users if the below given scenario is achievable using WC Spaces ?
Scenario: In a SubSpace say "Oracle HCM" there are multiple groups say HRP_US, HRP_AU etc.. , Now the SubSpace has some Event component included in the page. Is is possible to restrict the access of Event_1 to only HRP_US and Event_2 to only HRp_AU ?
NOTE: The Event_1 and Event_2 component (Calandar) are included in the same page.
I was able to show/hide the component on the page using the show component property, But I also want that Adminstrator for these 2 groups should have access to only their group event component. If this can be done, how?

Just to see if i understand your question correctly.
You want a apge with 2 components Event1 and Event2 but depending on the group you want to show either Event1 or Event2, you don't want to show both of them.
This can be done by using the rendered attribute on the component. You can use the security context and check to see if the user is in a specific group so the EL for the rendered attribute would be
#{securityContext.userInRole[' HRP_AU']} If the user does not have the role, the EL will return false and the component will not be visible.
