Queue handle interference with visa communication

From time to time I get an error message from Labview with Error #1 on an Release Queue subvi (invalid parameter). How can this be?
Hint: I have a straight connection from Obtain Queue to Release Queue, I dont use globals for the handle.
Can the handle be destroyed somehow?

Kudos are welcome

I will assume you are using LV 6.1 or later. (Note Queue references changed between LV 6.0 and 6.1 in that each obtain queue returns a unique reference now. Previously the same reference was returned.)
The Release Queue will destroy the queue and invalidate all reference to the queue if the "force destroy" boolean is true.
I suspect that elsewhere in your application, there is a realease queue being called that has this input wired true. I also have to guess that the destroy is occationally executing between when you obtain the queue reference and when you release it.
The attached VI (in LV 7.0) and jpg illustrate this condition and return the error code 1 as you mentioned.
Run the VI in exection highlihting and you will see how this hap
pens.
BTW
If you are seeing this in RT, I have another story that applies in that environment.
I hope this helps,

  • VISA bug with serial communication on MAC !

    Hello to you all again,
I have appreciated all feed back from you about a problem encountered with serial communication on the MAC (see earlier questions)
    To situate the problem:
One can only read 63 bytes back from the serial port using VISA calls (without handshaking). With the old serial VIs you can read everything back. In addition the exact same VIs do not show this problem on windows platform.
I have now performed extensive tests with a loopback on the serial port and the problem still stand.
I attach two VIs to an answer to this question (for some obscure reason I can not attach them to the question?) which do the basic loopback, one uses VISA the other the old serial VIs. Please try them out o
n your computer (for Mac RS422 miniDIN you should connect pin 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 to do the loopback)(for windows RS232 DB9 connect pin 2 to 3) in loopback configuration (see also resource library).
Please post a message if the described problem also occurs on your MAC.
Thanks to all of you for your cooperation!!

  • VISA communication problem

    Hello,
In my application i have communicated controller with the labview via serial communication with USB Serial cable (using VISA tool). My application works perfectly fine in development mode and in.exe(without installer)
Problem starts when I create the installer the communication starts malfunctioning. The communication behaviour is unpredictable. I have included different additional installer associated with VISA while creating my installer, the attached image shows it. Tell me if I am missing any additional installer. Some of the thread says that I should be having NI-Serial which is actually not listed in my case in the additional installer list.
The problem is that my application on target device (which is not having labview) is not taking certain commands. Guide me with this please. Thank you

In my experience, there is little risk in updating your VIs to a newer version; it's when you go backwards that you begin to have issues.  That being said, maybe There are some options that are different between the two LabVIEW versions?
I know it's too late for this project, but have several versions of LabVIEW on the same (Windows 7) PC, and I've opened up projects in the wrong version even though I selected the project from the --> menu from the correct LabVIEW version on the Start Menu.  It seems that the shortcut will open in the last version of LabVIEW that you had open, even if you did what I did above.  Now I explicitly open the correct LabVIEW version and select the project from inside LabVIEW instead.

  • How to code this with serial communication?

Here's What I Want To Do.
There are two computers A and B. I send some variational data, 1.2,3.4 for example, from A to B once per second. If B has received the right data, he will send "Yes" to A, otherwise he will say "No". If received "Yes", A will get ready for the next data-sending. If "No", A will send the data again.
The examples with LabVIEW for VISA communication are all like that one computer is listening and the other one is writing all the time. So can you help me with two simple VIs for computer A and B?
    Regards.

You need to connect the two computers' serial ports with a Null Modem Cable (Tx/Rx, CTS/RTS, DTR/DCD reversed). The put the attached vi on computer A. It will send a command from an array, and wait for a response from computer B. If the response is Yes, then the next command will be sent. If not Yes then A will send the same command again and wait for a response. There is an Abort button if you want to abort, but it will only abort the current command. You can modify it to abort the whole thing by using a while loop to replace the for loop, and using the abort button to exit the while loop. I'll leave the coding up to you. You will have to write a vi to reside on B. I'll describe it but you can code it, good practice. Computer B should start off initializing the com port, like in the attached vi. Then loop at Bytes at Port until some bytes come in, then read the bytes. Use a comparison (equal) to check if the data is good. Use a case structure to define what to send back to computer A (Yes or No). Then write it back using Visa Write. Loop around the entire thing except for the com port init. Close the Visa after the main loop.

  • Queue Handler

    Hi,
I am creating a queue with a payload type of object created by me. Now I want this Queue to communicate with Oracle Workflow thru Business Event Systems, n for that I need to define my queue as an agent in OW. And also to associate with a Queue Handler. OW comes with a default queue handler WF_EVENT_QH. Can I use the same handler for my queue or I need to define my own one, if yes, then how can I define my own handler ??
    Thanks!!
    Regards,
    Shalu Aggarwal

    Hi Shalu
If your queue was created using the WF_EVENT_T adstract datatype, then you can use the WF_EVENT_QH. If you created your queue with a different type, you can write your own queue handler which needs to translate between WF_EVENT_T and your type for the enqueue and dequeue procedures.
    Cheers

  • Serial port: from 6i without visa to 7express with visa ?????

upgrading from NT4 6i max 2.5 to 2000 7exp max3.1 my pzt on PC serial port do not move anymore. The DA converter do not understand the instructions.
Running max on the coms: done OK
Looping back the visa instructions: done instructions OK
Trying hyperterminal: done OK (the DAC move)
the coms are in function but the DAC do not move while driving with visa...any suggestion??

I also upgraded from LV6.1 to LV7 and use serial communication. I now use VISA (and prefer it). However, for the older functions.. they should work..
Have you looked into the VISA Advanced controls under Interface Specific and under "Serial". You may find the functions you need to "upgrade" your serial comm vi's.

  • Problem on WinXP / Labview 6.1 with VISA (serial port)

There is a problem on WinXP / Labview 6.1 with VISA which i use to poll the state lines of the serial port. The only functions that i use are "VISA Open", "Find Resource", line state properties and "VISA close".
On my own machine (WinME) it works fine as a standalone application (with runtime engine in the same direction), even if i rename the Labview directory so that Labview is not found.
From my VXIpnp directory i deleted all but these files:
    directory "Win95",
    subdirectory "Bin" containing "NiViAsrl.dll",
    subdirectory "NIvisa" containing "visaconf.dll".
When shipping this to WinXP (and copying "VXIpnp" to the root directory), the serial port was not found, so i renamed the direction "Win95" to "
WinNT", but this did not work also.
I installed the VISA server, although it seems not to be required -- no result.
    Final question:
What must i do for distributing the program as a standalone application for all windows platforms?

    Hey Joachim,
In order to create an installer that includes the VISA Run-time engine for serial IO you will have to purchase LabVIEW 7.x. See screen shot. This packages a small compact version of the run-time that can only be used for serial, but it takes up much less space. The installer that I created has my application, the LV Run-time, and the VISA run-time and it is about 26 MB.
That is much smaller than if I had to include the 32 MB LV 7.1 run-time and the 14 MB VISA run-time separately. It would have been even smaller if I would have uncheck some of the items that I wasn't using.

  • LVDiff with VIs in library

    Hi,
I've successfully setup both LVDiff and LVMerge with TortoiseSVN and I'm using it heavily, but I get an error from LVDiff if the VI belongs to a library:
Error 1004 occurred at Open VI Reference in NI_procmphier.lvlib:CMP compare two VIs.vi->lvdiff.viPossible reason(s):  LabVIEW:  The VI is not in memory.
To load a VI into memory with the Open VI Reference function, a path must be wired for the VI Path input.
    VI Name: TMCalc_Qp.vi
Has anyone changed LVdiff so that it works with VIs in library?

I just had the same problem, strange that no one has seen it before...
The correction is committed in the project's repository since 2 years, but the download archive contains an older version.
You can download the right version from this link. Just replace the vi in the lvdiff directory!

  • MHDDK with Visa: event when DMA transfer complete?

We are using devices like PXIe-6363, PCIe-6321 depending on requirements and these are dealt with using the MHDDK with Visa backend on Windows (I hope that is the correct terminology).
All I/O, both analog and digital simultaneously, is done using DMA transfers using the standard MHDDK classes for doing so. This all works without problems.
One last improvement is I'd like to be notified using a callback/event system when a new block of data is ready: currently I'm just polling the input DMA's available number of bytes in a continuous loop with no sleep() in order to be able to process data as soon as it's ready. Works, but keeps one cpu busy the whole time.
I didn't see any way to use callbacks using the MHDDK which makes sense since it's purely based on register I/O if I understand it correctly.
However I noticed Visa has viInstallHandler, viEnableEvent and the likes. I went through some documentation on the event types but admit this is over my head and I have no idea where to start.
Could anyone point me in the right direction?
First question is if what I'm asking for is possible? Second I think I just have to call viInstallHandler for the correct event type, then figure out if the event is for an input DMA transfer from PXI? Using viGetAttribute somehow?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Problem With Receiver Communication (File Adapter)

    Hi,
My SAP XI Version is 3.0 with Service Pack 7,I have a strange problem,
I have a flat file coming from Unix system,I need to convert this into  XML and put a copy in the Archive mode and send the XML file, getting it converted into flat file format send it to the receiver. Here I have to do the content Conversion,So,I have done content conversion while configuring Sender and Receiver Communication Channel.
I am using NFS as Transport Proctocol. So, everthing was fine when i run the scenario, after activating. The Sender communication Channel is Archiving the files. But I am unable to see any file with receiver communication channel.
So,for this I have checked up with Adapter monitoring in Runtime Workbench. In my File Adapter My Sender as well as Receiver Communication Channels are in Green. They are mentioning that Sender Communction is sucessful and
RECEIVER COMMUNICATION IS Sucessful but no messages processed.
Can any one suggest what to do now.Everything is fine with Content conversion and Unix System. But my receiver is not receiving any messages.
Should any OSS notice or patch work needs to be applied.
    Thank You,
    KishoreJ.

    Hi Kishore,
I Guess you should first see if the file is being picked......for that do the following.
While configuring your Sender File Adapter, let the mode be DELETE. This way, we will know if the file is being picked by the File adapter. The file will be deleted and you can be sure that it has been picked up.
Next, look into the RWB--> FILE ADAPTER and see the log of the file adapter
and also, you can see the flow of your message in the integration engine in SXMB_MONI.
Ans still if your message is not showing up in SXMB_MONI, please do as explained below.
Increase logging and trace level in:
SXMB_ADM -> Integration Engine Configuration -> Specific Configuration
Also create entries as follows in it:
    LOGGING = 1
    LOGGING_SYNC = 1
    TRACE_LEVEL = 3
    TRACE_LEVEL_PROPAGATION = 1
Also refer XI: I cannot see some of my messages in the SXMB_MONI
    Regards,
    Abhy

  • TV causes interference with powerline adapter

I just had infinity installed and I have a problem with my powerline adapters, which is next to the TV (it is for the sky+ box for sky go). The powerline adapters are TP-Link tl-pa211 and the TV is a Panasonic th-37px70b.
When the TV is on, the maximum I can get through the ethernet powerline is 14mb/s, but if the TV is off or on standby I can get close 40mb/s (i.e. the maximum on the broadband line). The TV is on a wall bracket so it is difficult to move.
    I have tried:
TV in room 1 connected to socket in room 1 and powerline in room 1 - 14mb/s when tv is on, 40mb/s when tv is off/standby.
TV in room 1 connected to socket in room 1 and powerline in room 2 - 40mb/s constantly.
TV in room 1 connected to socket in room 2 and powerline in room 2 - 40mb/s constantly.
TV in room 1 connected to socket in room 2 and powerline in room 1 - 14mb/s when tv is on, 40mb/s when tv is off/standby.
It seems it is the actual TV that is directly causing the interference with the powerline adapater, not the TV causing interference in the electricity line. I'm not sure how it can interfere directly.
Has anyone had anything like this before or is the TV just faulty?

Thanks for you reply. I have tried the TV connected directly to the socket and the powerline connected to a seperate twin socket about 1 meter away and I still get the problem when the TV is on. Also, I have connected the TV to a power socket on the other side of the house with a extension cord while not actually moving the TV and the powerline adapter connected to a socket near the TV and this still gives the same problem when the TV is on. And then, with the TV still on the extension cord to the otherside of the house, I connected the powerline to the same twin socket as the extension cord and this produced no problems.
So, it must be the physical proximity of the TV with the powerline adapter that is causing the problem. So could the TV be emmitting some frequency that is interfering with the powerline adapter?
I actually use a wireless powerline adapter (TP-Link TL-WPA281) in the socket, but for testing this problem I use the non-wireless version (TP-Link TK-PA211). And according to this thread, the BT Hub 3B isn't compatible with wireless extenders. Why is upgrading to infinity so annoying?

  • Using Video advantage with IP Communicator on CME 4.0

I am having issues getting video advantage to work with IP communicator. I am using VA 2.0.2.0 and IPC 2.0.2.0 and CME 4.0. I added the commands
    voice service voip
    h323
    call start slow
    telephony-service
    service phone videoCapability 1
    call-park system redirect
    create cnf-files
and added the video command under the ephone. If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

I am not using Call Manager. I am using Call Manager Express. There is no version 4.1 the documentation says that it should work with 4.0. that is the latest version of CME. Do you have any insight on this.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

  • Play sound in specified duration and desired file when reading data with VISA functions ?

    Hi.
I read data with VISA read function and then I use functions like multiple for showing data on Chart. every thing is OK.
now I want play a specified sound (like a 3s song in my desired folder) when signal amplitude cross over from specified value. then after desired time, it will be wait for new cross over from specified value and this procedure repeat again until I stop the program.
Data comes from MCU and it doesn't stop when system play sound and when system play sound, incoming data for this part (play sound) will be ignore them until specified expired.
I use this VI for reading data and mentioned part which is sound part is empty and I don't know what I must done ?
altougth I use another while loop for sound apart because I want save CPU time.
    Thanks.
    Solved!

I would recommend making the data type of the notifier a cluster that contains a path and a numeric (double).  The path tells the player which file to play.  The numeric is the duration.
Now for a slightly complicated, but really neat, way to stop your second loop.  Do not use a second notifier.  Instead, send the normal notification but use Not A Path for the path in the cluster.  Your second loop can do a check for the Not A Path and stop when that is recieved.
