Quick Airport Express Question

If i set the express to join my existing wireless network (D-Link), will the express have access to the internet (effectively extending the wireless network) or will it just provide airtunes functionality? Also, do i have to have an aiport base station to use the WDS feature of the express?

Sure...
The network configuration would be:
Internet > (Ethernet cable) > [WAN] D-Link Internet Router [LAN] > (Ethernet cable) > [Ethernet port] AX > (wireless) > wireless clients
To set up the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) for a roaming network as bridge, using the AirPort Admin Utility, connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, try these settings:
AirPort tab
- Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
- AirPort Network Name: <D-Link's SSID>
- Create a closed network (unchecked)
- Wireless Security: <D-Links's encryption setting>
- Channel: <at least 3 channels different from D-Link>
- Mode: 802.11b/g Compatible
Base Station Options - WAN Ethernet Port
- Enable SNMP Access (unchecked)
- Enable Remote Configuration (unchecked)
- Enable Remote Printer Access (unchecked)
Internet tab
- Connect Using: Ethernet
- Configure: Using DHCP
- WAN Ethernet Port: Automatic
Network tab
- Distribute IP addresses (unchecked)
- Apply the new settings.
- Wait at least 5 minutes.

  • Quick and easy airport express question [expanding my network]

I have an airpot express unit, it works great, i have plugged in to my internet using an ethernet cable, I just want to know something: can i expand my network?? make it bigger?
I have airport express in my room, can i plugg another airport express on another room, make settings so that new airport express joins my current network, and like expand my internet connection, my problem is that i live in a house made out of concrete so, walls are really big and not thin at all, so when i go downstairs i loose my internet connecion, can i expand this with another airport express without having to connect the ethernet cable to the new airport express? I hope its not to confusing

Yes you can, when you plug the 2nd Airport Express in there is an option to join or extend an wireless network. This is what you would select to expand / extend your existing wireless network to other areas that may have a weaker signal.

  • Apple TV 2 and Airport Express question?

Hi, so I am new with all these apple tv and aiport express thing. I recently bought an apple tv and I wanted to out the audio to my 5.1 speakers in the room. Question. If the speakers in my room are connected on an airport express, then I play a video or movie (not just music, as i know music would work) will the sound stream thru my room speakers (connected to airport express) whilst the movie plays in the living room tv. Does it work that way? Video on my tv and sound streaming thru airport express connected speakers. I hope someone can help me.
NOTE: I am just about to purchase the airport express, but before I do I have to make sure it works.

You can't send video to one Airplay device and audio to a different one. Multiple Airplay devices used simultaneously for the same stream only works with audio. You can't do it with video nor can you split up the video and audio. You can connect the Apple TV to your 5.1 speakers if your receiver has HDMI or an optical input.
It is possible to use an iOS device to watch video and send the audio to the Airport Express or Apple TV but this only works for all the 3rd Party apps since they support Audio Airplay but not Video Airplay.

  • Westell/Airport Extreme/Airport Express question

I've read so many different options to extend a wireless network my head's spinning.
Have Westell DSL modem; Have had the Extreme also routing (but causing double NAT problems) so want to bridge it. Just got Airport Express, which I want to also put in bridge mode, connect to AEBS via Ethernet, providing wireless coverage in a distant room in the house.
    Question 1:
Can both the Extreme and the Express be put in bridge mode, so that all they're doing is providing wireless coverage? I'd do all my Port forwarding in the Westell then.
Question 2: I thought I had the Express plugged into a port on the Extreme, but discovered it was actually plugged into the Westell (two wireless networks "side by side". If they're named the same, will it work that way? I would like access to the hard drive plugged into the Extreme, no matter which wireless network I'm accessing.
My suspicion is that the setup will work, but it's not *really* extending my Extreme network at all; it's just another network. All the IPs though are coming from the Westell.
    I'm very confused!

    Yes.

Is your goal to have both AirPorts be connected back to the Westell gateway by Ethernet? If so, you can configure the entire network as a roaming network. If on the other hand, you will only have the Extreme connected to the gateway by Ethernet and the Express connected to the Extreme by wireless, then you can configure the AirPorts for an extended network?
Please check out this Apple Support article on extending networks with AirPorts.

  • Airport Express Questions

I am considering an Airport Express but have a couple of questions
    1. I want to put this in my shop which is a detached building from house. In my house I have a netgear wireless router. I believe that signal will reach the shop. Will the airport express connect me to my home wifi so I can stream music to a stereo I have in my shop?
    2. What is the current model number for an Airport Express. I noticed several different models numbers out there.
    Thanks

Sorry, but no ... not if you intend to extend the wireless range of the Netgear (wirelessly) with the AirPort Express. That is because non-Apple routers are not WDS-compatible.
    2. What is the current model number for an Airport Express. I noticed several different models numbers out there.
The "latest" version of the AirPort Express Base Station came out in 2008, and is still the current model being sold by Apple. It is model# A1264 or part# MB3211LL/A (for the US version)

  • Airport Express questions on wireless print serving

I have a wireless network setup using a linksys router and thinking about using an Airport Express as a wireless print server in another room. I currently have a Canon MP500, 2 wired PCs connected to the router and 2 wireless laptops one Windows and an iBook. Would the Airport Express connect to my existing wireless network to act as a wireless print server for my network?
    Thank you
PCs running Windows XP Pro and iBook is running OS X Tiger

Hi, does anyone know how to change the port setting on Windows XP Pro. I recently purchased an Airport extreme and the network is working great, however when I tried to set up the printer the documentation left some key peices of information out.
I had followed the step for installing a printer, but when I got to the point about specifing the adapter type, the documentation in the manual that came with the Airport skipped over that part. I guessed at the adapter and unfortunatly (and obviously after reading the instructions here http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/1008.html) I chose the wrong adapter. Now I want to go back and fix it but I can't figure out how. When I tried to run the add printer wizard again and the port setting wizard it said the port (IP_10.0.1.1) was alread in use and kicked me out of the wizard.
How do I change the settings on the port to the correct settings?
    Thanks

  • Another iPod/AirPort Express Question (Not About Charging)

I was wondering if it is possible to sync your iPod with your computer through AirPort Express? The "Do Not Disconnect" screen that it popped up when I connected it gave me the indication that it was connected with my computer, but nothing on my laptop indicated that.
I'm asking out of both curiosity and a desire for convenience. If i can charge/sync from one thing, that saves an outlet (Especially with how large the iPod charger and Airport Express are)
MacBook Pro 1.83 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi LukeM:
To my understanding, NO, you can't use the USB port on your AE to sync your iPod or charge it.
This may help as well: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107857
Sorry! Sounds like a great idea tho!

  • Networking Router/Airport Express Question

I have my cable modem going into a router, then out of the router I'm going to a mac mini (that has no airport) and to an airport express. Is it possible to see the mac mini from the other 2 computers connected thru the airport, preferably thru appletalk?
    thanks

You don't use AppleTalk. Just turn on file sharing in the Sharing preferences. Select Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu and search for "sharing" to find out more.

  • Time Capsule/Airport Express Question

    Hello All-
I have an iMac (Late 2007) in my bedroom office connected to the internet via ethernet to my Time Capsule. From there, my iMac is getting it's connection wirelessly. I have an Airport Express handy and I would like to use it to hook up some speakers in my garage and use my Apple TV (v 2.3) to pipe the music in. How would I go about doing this? I want to stay on the same network that I'm on, as my computer and 2 ATV's are already on this network, if possible. Right now, I have the AE plugged into an outlet and it's blinking yellow. What steps do I need to take? Walk me through this as if I'm an 8 year old. lol. Many thanks....

The AppleTV is a wireless client but not a wireless base station. Therefore the AirPort Express (AX) can not wirelessly connect to the AppleTV.
The AX can connect to the Time Capsule wirelessly. The AX needs to be configured to connect as a wireless client.
The music playing on the AX would be controlled via iTunes on your computer. It would not be controlled via the AppleTV.

  • Crazy AirPort Express question

    Here's what I have:
    1) MacPro G5 with AirPort Extreme card, running 10.5.2
    2) iBook G3 with AirPort card, running 10.4.11
    3) AirPort Express base station
When I set up the system on Sunday, everything was fine. However, starting Tuesday, although the iBook sees the base station, the G5 does not, although it does recognize the network. The G5's card is functioning, because it sees other networks in the area, including the wifi from the pizza shop on the corner.
The G5 is in range of the base station, because I crouched downwith the iBook next to its antenna and checked the signal strength, and it was strong.
What do I need to do to get the G5 back on the system?
    Thanks

Thanks for the welcome, Duane, but it was set at channel 2 when this started. I have since tried several other channels, but to no avail. A buddy of mine has suggested a hard restart, and I'm going to try that now. The thing is, I had to do a hard restart when I first set the system up. It did work, but only for a few days. We'll see what happens.

  • HP 1610 & Airport Express question

    Hello,
I was wondring, how can I get my HP 1610 to work with Airport Express? I got the USB pluged in to the Airport Express, but it can't find the HP 1610 printer.
    Thank you,
    James

    Hi James,
When you try to print does it spool up and then nothing? In other words, after you click Print does a window open and it has a bar and counts how many pages are going to be printed then it disappears and nothing happens after that?
Do you have this Printer set as your Default in the Print/Fax System Preferences or can you select it when you print?
Does your printer show up here: your main hard drive>users>You>library>printers

  • Quick regular expression question/help

Can someone help me with two regular expressions I need. I could spend a while trying to figure it out myself, however times short and I really would like to get a fool proof optimal solution (my attempt would be buggy).
    Sample sentence
The population, is projected to reach 200,000, or more (by 2020).[7] This is {dummy} text.
    The first regular expression
I need all brackets and every thing between them to be removed from a sentence.
    Brackets such as: ( ), [ ] and { } .
I.e. Given the above sentence the following would be returned:
The population, is projected to reach 200,000, or more. This is text.
    The second regular expression
If a word has a trailing comma character I need to add a whitespace between the word and the comma.
I.e. Given the sentence returned from the first regular expression, this regex would return:
The population *,* is projected to reach 200,000 *,* or more. This is text.
Many thanks to anyonewho can help me with this!

  • Quick regular expression question!

If I have a String such as:
"This is a sentence.[1] This is another."
    OR
"This is a sentence.(1) This is another."
I.e. A String has a full stop within it and a non alphanumeric character immediately after it (without whitespace between the full stop and the character)
How can I insert a whitespace character between the full stop and the non alphanumeric character (such as a bracket in the above examples)?
So the above Strings would be transformed into:
"This is a sentence. [1] This is another."
"This is a sentence. (1) This is another."
    Thanks

If I understand what you're asking...
    str = str.replaceAll("\\.([^\\p{Alnum}\\s])", ". $1");
"This is sentence.[1] This is another.(1) This is a third. [1] This is a fourth.& This is a fifth. This is the last."
"This is sentence. [1] This is another. (1) This is a third. [1] This is a fourth. & This is a fifth. This is the last."For more info:

    iMac G4 + OS X.4
    Airport Express
Question : Can I use the airport express as an Airport Card for the G4? If so how???????? If not then I'll just have to make Netgear richer.....

  • Setup wireless network for mac and pc with Airport Express?

    Mac Mini/OSX/10.8.2/Airport Express
    Question,
I have my AIrPort Express setup for my Mac Mini and I have dell computer that I want to share the wireless network. Is it possible to setup a wireless network with my mini and the pc using only the AirPort Express? Is the Airport Express a wireless router?
    Thanks,

If your Mac Mini is connecting to the Express using wireless, then this confirms that the device is working correctly.
The Express is a wireless router that can support up to 10 wireless connections, so your Dell computer should be able to connect assuming that its wireless card is working correctly, and the Dell indentifies the network and enters the correct wireless network password.
If you are having difficulty with the Dell PC connecting, this Windows troubleshooting document might help:
