Quick contacts look up

I recently pressed the red phone key to wake up unit. Suprised to see a quick look up list of my contacts. Don't know how this happened; but, I liked it and can not figure out how to get that screen back. Any ideas?

There is no default for this using the red key. That is only an on/off button. Not sure how you had that screen.
You may have the email button, by the red key, programmed for contacts instead of the default button function.
You may have had the contacts screen open when the phone went into sleep mode and when you pressed the red key it was still on the contact screen.
If you want to re-program or check the current function of the email button for contacts, got to prefs, personal, buttons. If you want to change the button to contacts, use the dropdown arrow and select contacts. You can then use the option button and the email button to access your email. You have the option of programming the calendar and messaging buttons for 2 different functions.

Office 2010 Quick Contacts option not available in To-Do Bar

Hi,
For one user till yesterday he can able to view the presence status in Outlook (In Quick Contacts option) But suddenly the Quick contacts option is disappeared. I try to enable to the option through VIEW > TO-DO BAR > QUICK CONTACTS (Enable)
But I am not able to see the option Quick Contacts under To-Do Bar. Other Options like appointment, Date Navigator, Tasks List are available.
Let me know how to Bring the option back. (We are Using Lync Server 2010 and Outlook 2010 - The same is working for me)

It might depend on the order of installation. Perhaps Lync/MOC must be installed subsequent to Outlook. Installing the update mentioned below, did require me to close Outlook 2010, but not Word or Excel, in order to avoid restarting, so the MOC installer
does mess with the Outlook bits.
I couldn't see the option to enable "Quick Contacts" when I was running version 3.5.6907.0 of MOC (Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 R2), but after upgrading to v3.5.6907.244 (Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 R2 Hotfix KB 2647093), which I downloaded

it now shows up.

Quick Contacts broken on Update? Nevermind!

Since I downloaded the new update Quick Contacts is stuck on "Loading Contacts". Anyone else having this issue?
Nevermind. On the developers website says broken and working on a fix. Don't know but this new version of WebOS seems to be causing alot of issues.

Developers have access to updates before users to make sure there programs will work. Its on them though to keep them functioning when new features are added to the phone.

Quick Contacts

I was having problems adding a picture to my Dad's profile (in my contact list) so I accidentally deleted him from my quick contact list (like the 1-touch call screen) and I can't seem to add it back again. When I try to, it adds him as a really big contact icon and not the same size of the regular ones. Does this make any sense to anyone?
Please if anyone knows how to add a contact in a normal size, let me know. Thanks

There are two ways to add a contact, and each way has a different size icon for that contact. The first way is to tap and hold on an empty space until the pop up menu comes up. Scroll down to Contact Quick task, select your contact and what you want to add to it. This is a large icon which you can shrink. The second way is to go to shortcuts>contact and select the one(s) you want. These are small. Let me know if this worked for you.

Quick contact search on the N97?

Hi all,
I must be partially daft, but for the life of me, I can't find any way to quick-search contacts. When I go to the dialpad, dialing a number doesn't bring up any contacts; and attempting to press any keyboard buttons (i.e. "M" for "Michael") does absolutely nothing either.
I am sure I must be missing something. Could anybody suggest what I'm doing wrong?
And, if the N97 doesn't support that - any recommendations on software I should look at? It's rather silly, really.

Yeah, I saw that, but that's 3 taps to even START searching. What if I know part of a phone number, and just want to type 555 to get a list of all phone numbers with 555 in them? Or what if I want to open the slider, and start typing "m-i-c-h" to get all Michaels? My E71 worked exactly like that, so I'm confused as to why it's so complicated on the N97.
Is there any aftermarket software that simplifies this?

Quick preview looks better than processed raw image...??

Hey all, probably a bit of a "newb" question here... so forgive me, and thank you...
Using a D7000 and often times when I shoot - the preview image on the camera looks BRIGHT, VIVID and ROBUST ... after import however - when reviewing my shots, JUST as I arrow over to the next shot - many of the preview images tend to look better than the processed image that aperture displays once it's done spinning it's wheels.
Perhaps I've messed up a Raw Fine Tuning setting?
When I click on quick preview and browse through an import, the pictures truly look nicer to me than the when aperture processes them.
Without question, the display on my acer monitor is a far cry from the miniature compressed image on the back of my nikon, however the more i shoot, the more I realize a disconnect between what I think I should see, and what I'm ultimately seeing in Aperture.
Are their specific settings to fine tune the import of raw d7000 shots?

I take it you're shooting and processing RAW images?
It's worth remembering that if you have a picture style selected (i.e. vivid etc), your camera might be applying extra contrast and saturation etc to the image you see on the back of the camera. Camera manufacturers do this so that we can give our pictures some extra punch and colour automatically.
I'd also be wary of comparing what you see on your camera to what you see on your monitor. Unless both are calibrated, you shouldn't trust either of them 100%. The best example of monitor calibration is going to look at TV's in an electronics store. You'll probably notice that in a wall of TV's, some pictures will be darker, some lighter, some more vivid, some more saturated. Using a calibration tool adjusts the picture your screen and monitor displays so that it is 'accurate'.
It's a bit like having a room full of scales and adjusting them so that they all read 1 kilogram when a 1 kilogram weight is placed on each of them. Calibrating monitors will mean that when you display an image on it, it will always look the same rather than getting the some light/some dark problem you saw in the TV store.
It's a tricky subject to explain (don't worry if it doesn't make sense), but you might like to have look around YouTube for videos on the subject.

Icloud keeps inserting fake calendar events and fake contacts - looks like test data

In the last few days, meetings for someone in Palo Alto and contacts with fake data [ (555) 555-xxxx ] have been showing up on my wife's iPhone. It looks like Apple test data.
Any ideas??

How to change the look and feel for Heading of quick launch menu in project server 2010

I want the header to be displayed in Bold with Underline to it.

Quick movements on DVD movie has tracers and looks terrible

When I preview the movie before burning it everything looks fine. After I burn the DVD and view it, all quick movements look terrible... horizontal lines and tracers. Please help!

Previewing a movie is simply a "link" to the uncompressed movie you have made. iDVD will compress this to MPEG 2 for DVD playback. It seems many are not happy with iDVDs compression schemes... HOWEVER, quick movements are the bane of any MPEG compression with any software. Although some software will be better than others. Why is motion difficult? DV, NTSC, is 29.97 frames per second. Basically 30 still images/second. This equates to 13GB/hour. Keep in mind that a SL DVD holds roughly 4.3GB. For playback on tabletop DVD players your material must be compressed to the MPEG 2 format (which also always it to fit on a DVD). MPEG 2 takes one reference picture about every 15 frames and then only records the motion difference between frames. So you go from almost 30 frames/second down to two with motion difference. So anything that has a lot of motion is very difficult for any MPEG compression because of the nature of the compression. If these are quick pans & zooms, I would suggest a more controlled pan & zoom. If the camera isn't on a tripod, I would suggest using a tripod. You could also make a disc image prior to burning the DVD and the disc image will actually be the compressed version as opposed to just previewing the sequence in iDVD.

N95 quick photo contacts like on N82?

On my old N82 I can hit one of the buttons and it brings up a kind of carousel of junk. The main one being a configurable list (with pictures) of my favorite few contacts. I have seen a video of this on the N95 8gb as well.
Is this possible to do on my N95-3 non-8gb?
I can hit the right button and some carousel thing comes up with lifeblog, music, etc, but I dont see one for quick contacts.

No you can't do it on the N95-3 (or N95-1) as the menu is part of the firmware of other models. It is not an installable app.
The feature was first introduced on the N81 and later appeared on the N95 8GB, N82 and N78.

Can different contacts on the same brand of ink cartridge cause printer to print blank pages?

I have a HP office jet 6500 printer - E709n model. My operating system is Windows 7. The printer requires one black cartridge and three different colored cartridges. My black ran out (steaking, blank spots, etc.); the color cartridges were low, but not out. I replaced the black cartridge with a new one. When I did, the printer would not print at all - just blank sheets came out. After trying a few different things, I decided to put the old one back in. I changed the document I was writing to green and it printed. I thought this was odd so I decided to check the contacts. The contacts or microchip on the old cartridge looked completely different than on the new one. So I decided to call hp tech service to see if they had changed the contact (microchip) design on their 920 ink cartridges and if that would make a difference. An hour later after going through their usual steps - cleaning printouts and checking alignment which failed - they decided to send me another black ink cartridge. Since I was talking to guys in India with heavy accents, it made it quite difficult. They never answered my question about whether different contacts or microchips on the cartridges would make a difference. It was chalked up as a faulty cartridge. I returned it to Staples and purchased a new one. I opened a new black cartridge, but its contacts looked just like the faulty one I threw away. I decided to show it to a tech person there. Two techs there had not seen anything like it. They opened another black one which had the same style contacts so we concluded that hp had changed their contacts on their cartridges and maybe getting them all to match would work. I picked up three color cartridges as well, but only checked one. It had the new design. When I arrived home, I quickly opened all cartridges and inserted them into the printer. It still didn't print. So I checked all cartridges. All had the same style connection or microchip except the yellow ink cartridge. I couldn't believe it. So do I take the yellow one back and try to open a package to find a matching connection or do the connection even matter. The display is registering all cartridges as full, but I am still unable to print anything but blank paper. I printed an alignment page and only color gets printed, no blank. So please let me know if the difference in connectors makes any difference in whether things print.

There have been some changes in the contacts on the supplies, but this should not cause any issues in printing.
I would suggest you try the troubleshooting steps in this document. If that does not resolve the issue then the post here may help.

Contacts not being sorted by last name

Hello,
We recently received 2 Windows HTC 8x Phones (one for me and one for my son) and I wanted to sort my contacts (people on this phone) by last name. However it is not working correctly, it seems some contacts get sorted while others do not and the problem is not just on my phone but on my sons as well. I was wondering if there is a quick fix for this or a reason why it would only sort a few contacts.
Example of what my contacts look like now:
Christian Ortega
Clark, Megan
Coats, Will
Corbyn Gilbert
Now, these all show up under 'C' but the last names are Ortega, Clark, Coats, and Gilbert so two of those should obviously not be under 'C'.

Well we had checked those and they all seem to be right. However, all contacts were imported from our old phones (which were not smart phones) and we used the backup Assistant. I can't seem to isolate the difference between the ones that work and the ones that do not work some are linked to facebook/hotmail and some aren't and that doesn't seem to have anything to do with the problem since their information is correct on those and they are on separate lines.

Contact links broken??

Just today all of the names in my address book just quit working. All my quick contacts have reverted to simply the phone # of the contact. All old and new text messages are simply listed by phone # and not contact as well as all the call history. Any idea what this could be from? I have an (818) area code, and recently they sent me a statement that due to a new area code being created in California, that all (818) numbers would have to now dial 1 (area code) in order to make calls and to update my contact list accordingly. I did so last week, but this problem didn't arise today (I would think that if the two were connected that I would have noticed this as soon as all my contacts were updated). I suppose a restore could fix it, but was wondering if this is an issue other users have dealt with.

Cause the area code has changed your phone looks at the contact list to find a matching value because you had a text message from 808xxxxxxx previously it looks in the contact list but cant find it anymore as it is now 1xxxxxxxx it is a bit of a pain but you could enter both phone numbers into each contact (depends how many you've got of course) but would solve the issue until you've got a full calls/sms history only with the new area code

How to sync iPhone/iPad contacts TO Outlook?

I am confused by the cavalier way the term "sync" is bandied about in the MS Outlook/Apple iTunes context.
I want to make my Outlook contacts look just like my iPhone contacts. I.e., after a sync, I don't want any contact info in one device that's not in the other.
In the past, "sync" has meant to me "make them both the same." But the mechanism whereby that occurs is not obvious in the context of iTunes and MS Office. For instance, when iTunes is syncing, what happens if a contact's name is in both the PC and iPhone, but the email addresses are different? Am I offered the opportunity to make a choice? What happens if Outlook contains an entry that's not on the phone? Will it end up on the iPhone? What happens if a contact is in the phone, but not in Outlook - will it get created in Outlook?
I consider my phone the primary device for accumulating contact information. As a consequence, my Outlook contacts are woefully out of date vis-a-vis my iPhone's. But I am sore afraid to engage the iTunes syncing, lest it somehow decide that what I want to do is replace the contacts on my iPhone with those from Outlook. I've seen too many comments elsewhere about contacts being lost wholesale, or duplicated wholesale.
Is there any definitive source for further detailed information on this subject?

Here is the way about how to transfer contacts from iPhone to Outlook:
Step 1: Connect the iPhone to the computer using the supplied USB cable and launch the iTunes application. iTunes displays your iPhone on the left panel under "Devices".
Step 2: Click your iPhone on the iTunes panel and click the "Info" tab. Click "Sync contacts with" and select "Outlook."
Step 3: Select "All Contacts" if you want to sync all the contacts from your iPhone to Outlook. If you want to select specific contacts, click "Selected groups" and place a check on the contacts you want to sync to Outlook.
Step 4: Click "Apply" to sync your iPhone contacts to Outlook. Click the "Eject" button on the right panel and disconnect your phone from the computer. Close iTunes.
Step 5: Launch Outlook and click the "Contacts" tab. You should see the imported iPhone contacts.
