Quick guide to publishing an FLV file to FMS?

Is there a quick step by step guide to publishing an FLV
Video for streaming download?

Actually Flash makes this pretty easy when you publish video
from a camera, for this just hook in the camera onto your
netstream, then use publish: YourNetStream.publish(streamName,
"record");
For more details just have a look at documentation (primarily
"flashmediaserver_cs_asd.pdf", page 102) and there are many samples
on the Devcenter
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashmediaserver/
If you're not publishing from a camera, and your FLV files
are already there, there's actually no need to stream these flvs.
In that case the best is to create a web application around FMS and
provide upload capabilities which allow to upload to a directory
where these FLVs can then be streamed from. That's not really FMS
specific and depends a bit on the web server technology of your
choice.

  • Video Freezes when overriding flv files on FMS server

I have an flash application that captures a web cam video stream and stores it on the FMS server.
I notice when I create a brand new video, and store it on my FMS server, it works fine.
When I make another video and my application overrides the file with the new video, this is where I get problems.
When I download the flv file from the FMS server, and I play it locally it plays fine, but the timeline is weird.
The web player freezes the video during that first 15 seconds.
A 30 second video, will have a time line of like 45 seconds, the local flv player is smart enough to skip over the paused part of the video.
You will see it skip over the timeline to the good video (from 0sec to 15 secs).  The web player freezes the video during that first 15 seconds.
Any clues that I described that makes you know what is going on?

Great that gives me a big clue, which asc file do you think I need to look in?

  • Converting .flv files?

Source file = .flv downloaded from Twitch TV
Need = to convert the .flv file to a format that I can edit in Final Cut Pro 10.0.6
End Result Desired = to posted editted version in format that will play on YouTube
When I download the .flv file, the audio and video play fine in Adoble Flash Player.   I have tried just ablout every .flv converter I can find and all convert the .flv video to H.264 or other formats, but the Audio is never included.  I cannot figure out why the audio does not come over.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

    For the first question,
because Final Cut Pro uses QuickTime technology, almost any QuickTime-compatible file format can be imported and exported. well, you mentioned that the end result is to posted onto YouTube at last, so i recommend you use .mp4 format (can be supported both on FCP and YouTube) as output file.
I dont know what OS you are using, if you are using windows, you can use handbrake or freemake (both are free) to do that job well. Or you have a Mac computer, you may refer to guide here to convert .flv files to an mp4. I haven't done this in a long while, but it works fine for me before. Hope it works.
    For the second question,
you mean that the audio file is never output along with video. one reason for that is may the flv file codec is designed by different development team. you said you have tried just every .flv converter, can list them out? maybe some of tools (excluded from them) i know can shows you.
And Google search for more help.
    Regards.

  • FLV File does not play when published to my web server

Hi. I have created a short video in VC3 and selected the FLV option to create a web page. When I uploaded the entire file content to my web server (windows 2003 server hosted at Network Solutions) the FLV file will not play. Now... if I do the same with a WMV tile, the video plays.
You can view the file at
    http://www.airforcehomeseller.com/videos/va_education/VATutorials/index.htm
We have another video published in WMV format, although the video vs audio sync is out of wack at the moment, at
    http://www.airforcehomeseller.com/videos/Energy%20Pricing%20101/index.htm
    What am I doing wrong?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi again
You should probably double-check to ensure the standard.js file was also copied in when the HTML page was imported. It should be there but it never hurts to double check.
You might also perform a double-check to ensure things ended up in the correct folder (if you are organizing your project into folders). It could be that you moved the HTML page into a different folder and orphaned the JavaScript file.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Inserted FLV files not playing in a published project.

The issue: Inserted FLV files display (play) when previewing a project but not in a published project.
My setup: Windows XP and Captivate 5
    Questions:
       1) When in Filmstrip view only the movie playback bars show, not an image of the actual movie, is this correct?
       2) When I preview a project for the first time, the FLV files display (play) in Preview mode, HOWEVER, any time I preview the project after that, the movies do not play.
       3) When I publish a project, the inserted FLV files do not display (play), they only show the movie playback bars.
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Oh yeah, all the files are in the same directory.

  • 2 out of 6 imported flv files pausing on frame 1 when published

    Hi,
I have six Scenes, each scene has an imported FLV file.
I have a 6 button menu that works fine when clicking from one scene to the other.
The problem is is that videos 1 to 4 play fine when I switch to the scene, but FLV files 5 and 6 just stay paused at frame 1.
If I test the Scene using Ctrl+ALT+Enter, the Scenes work fine.
But Only if I either hit Ctrl+Enter to render the whole project, or if I publish the file, do the FLV files pause on frame 1.
All 6 videos are coded exactly the same way.
    Any suggestions please?

I'm wondering now if it some sort of memory thing or SWF limitation thing
The Scenes are Lessons 1 to 6
If I publish the SWF, then Lessons 1 - 4 play fine, 5 and 6 just sit at their frame 1 as if paused.
    If I move the scenes around to say: Lessons, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3, 4
    then 5, 6, 1 and2 play but now 3 and 4 are paused.
so it seems it affects the last 2 of the six scenes.
any one got any idea on why this might be happening?

  • Problems trying to publish a flash file with flv component onto a dreamweaver site

Hi, I posted this on the flash forum too, but maybe here is
    more appropriate....
if anyone can help me out with this, I would really
appreciate it. I have put a flv file into a flash document,
published it for progressive downloading (the video lasts about 4
minutes) all seems fine when I test the movie.
I then wanted to embed it into my website. Everything seems
fine there too, except that when I preview it in a browser, it
    looses its skin.
I copied the swf file and the skin into my remote server
along with the flv file that is placed in the swf.
However when i upload the page, there is no video.......
Is the file to big? Or have I done something wrong. Is there
a script that I'm supposed to do?
Sorry to seem stupid, I'm learning as I go along from the
help topics, and I cant seem to find my answer,
    Thanks
    John

It had me puzzled too until I realised I had exceeded the
amount of webspace my ISP had granted me. By uploading a FLV file
to my ISP, I had exceeded the 100mb they grant me for nothing. It
was tricky to work this out because there didn't seem to be any
indication that the flv file hadn't uploaded.
Check your webspace allocation to see if it's the same
    problem.

  • Quick swapping of FLV files

    Hello,
What I am looking to do is swap out .FLV files quickly to
create an instant response to an action. Lets say I have a loop of
a person standing in one spot, and I have 10 different possible
.FLV files that could play. When the user clicks on a place on the
stage, the appropriate video plays that walks the person over to
that spot. I have tried loading the other files in the background,
and using a movie clip with 10 different frames, each with a
different flv in it, but that doesn't seem to work. I want to
create the illusion of instant response, so there can't be a blank
moment before the next .FLV loads. I did have some success if all
10 of the videos are loaded on each frame, with the primary one
center stage, and the rest offstage with x at 2000 or something,
but if I need to change one thing, then I have to change all 10
frames, and it gets tedious, plus it doesn't seem like the best way
to do things. Is there a way to load an FLV into memory so that
when a movie clip moves to a frame where the video lives, it will
load instantly? Am I making a mistake using the FLV playback
component? Should I be coding the whole loading differently? I also
will have this living on a stand alone computer, so there is no
need to download files, just load them from a local directory. Any
thoughts are appreciated, and I have looked at the threads about
preloading video, but they don't seem to accomplish what I am
trying to do. I am using CS3 but with ActionScript 2. Thanks...
    - B

No you can't do this on multiple files.
But you can use File>>Add folder to library to add the whole folder.
Then you remove the dead tracks - but loose counts and ratings etc.
You can even add the whole iTunes Music folder and it will not create duplicates of files it already knows about.
    Removing dead tracks
Using a playlist to collect dead tracks.
Create new regular playlist – Playlist1
Select whole library and drag to Playlist1
Create new Smart Playlist with the rule: Playlist is not Playlist1
This playlist should contain all the dead tracks

Or you can use a Robert Jacobson script - iTunesremovenotfound at:

  • Doing quick edits with .flv files

Q: is there some app (mac or PC) that can do simple lossless edits from .flv files - hopefully without re-encoding?
like just load an .flv and just edit out a segment - then re-save - that type of thing (just like you can do with quicktime pro with .mov files)

QT Pro will do it with the perian plugin.

  • How to convert a flash demo (either FLA or SWF) into FLV file

I first converted the FLA file into AVI file by using the option of export movie in my flash software. But the ouput was not good, the quality of the demo was hit. The animations looked shaky. Then I tried converting the same file into QT format but as I use Flash 8 I was told to change the version in the publish settings to either Flash 5 or a lower version which did not support the actionscript and the animations that my file had. My file occupies 13,320 frames which makes the FLA and the SWF file quite heavy. Is there any way in which I can convert my demo to FLV format without using a third party software and just use Adobe Flash and Adobe Flash Video Encoder to do the same?

I wanted to know how can the conversion be made without using any tool apart from Quick Time movie player and Adobe Video Encoder.
Though I managed to make the FLV file I discovered that the background music was not playing.
I want a solution through which I can make the FLV using only Quick Time player and Adobe Video Encoder and not lose the background music and the voice-overs that exist in my file.

  • Uploaded swf and flv files - right ?

    Hi all -
Just getting to grips with flash movies, however not 100%
i've got it right as yet ! Could someone with experience in flash
movies confirm the files to upload are the swf and flv files to our
server ? Everything appears OK when viewing the movies - take a
quick look here www.sofabedgallery.co.uk/cosmosofa.php however I'm
just a little concerned of the size of the flv file at a couple of
mb. Is this the correct file to upload or should I try to upload
    the fla smaller file?
    Many thanks,
    Chris.

    Hi ,
You can publish your project as MP4 with Cp6. For that --
Do -- File-- Publish-- Media--- (Choose Dropdown) MP4 and (adjust settings, if you like) Hit publish.
You can use the Adobe Media Encoder to convert the Video into FLV format.
Also, you can use the SWF option on Publish Screen to publish the project as a Flash File.
    Thanks!

  • Any ideas how I can view this flv file?

I have CS3 Flash using Flash Player 9 and Actions Script 3.  I am publishing a progressve loading swf, which has an absolute path to an flv of http://www.haleygroup.com/work_images/basics.flv.  The swf file is located here http://www.haleygroup.com/work_images/basics.swf, along withn the html, flv, and skin.  When I click the button (configured by an XML file) on my web site to view the file, I get a flickering box.  Other flvs in the XML file are configured the same way and work fine.  See this flickering box at http://www.haleygroup.com/, enter site and go to "et al" page, then click "Basics".  Any ideas how I can view this flv file?  Many, many thanks.

I just changed the path to a relative path of just "basics.flv" and still have the problem.  See swf at http://www.haleygroup.com/work_images/basics.swf.  Thanks.

  • How can I hide my flv files?

    hello,
I made a flash project that I published as an exe file. this project calls a number of external flv files. Now, I want to hide these files, because it's my own work and I don't want anyone to steal it, how can I hide these files?
my project will be published on a cd.
    thank you for your help

Well the best feature of having all the content on the CD is that it's all self contained, no need to go someplace else (like the Internet) to get content. But it certainly is possible to store the .flv files on a Web server and have Flash content on the CD go to the Internet to download and play the videos. Little more complex to get it all working AND then the user must have an Internet connection available or they can't see the videos. But even then... if it's on the Internet it can be copied.
Or look into sone type of encryption program:
    http://www.truecrypt.org/
    http://www.axantum.com/axcrypt/
but I'm not sure that you can use the content without first decrypting the data.
As for watermarking and adding a copyright notice, this is normally done when the video is first being edited in whatever software is used to capture and edit the original video file. Once the file is already created, there are software programs to add the mark... something like this:

    Best of luck!

  • How to open flv files in flash

I want to open flv file in flash and edit. I couldnot import flv file in flash. please guide me.

FLV is FLash Video.  You will want to use a program such as After Effects or Premiere Pro to edit video, not Flash Professional.

  • Trouble viewing .flv files in cs3

    Hi everyone,
I am just starting out using dreamweaver. I am trying to follow a tutorial on how to use it and am running a problem displaying .flv files. When I click on the file directly in the files panel i get an error that states "cant find a valid editor for this file extension". Does any one know how to correct this issue. I am using dreamweaver cs3 on  mac os x.

CR2 files are raw Canon files. If you can open them, it means your OK as far as the installation of the proper version of the ACR Plugin.
If you can't see the thumbnails of the TIFFs but you can open the files themselves in Photoshop by double-clicking on them, then all you may have to do is Purge the Cache for the offending folder(s) through the Tools menu of Bridge Tools > Cache > Purge cache for folder "name_of_folder".
Note that I am flying blind here as you haven't provided any sensible, meaningful and detailed information about your setup.
If you gave some sensible, complete and detailed information, someone may be able to help you, such as your platform (Mac or Win), exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop and of Bridge, machine specs, what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far, etc.
