QuickTime causing trouble with System Prefs

When I open this page

I see the QT logo and at the bottom right there is the animated logo. But this logo does not show properly. It is messed up and is blurred. Sometimes it looks alright, most times the circle is not completed.
Then there is the matter of the Enable instant on that cannot be changed.
I verified permissions, verified disk and all are OK.
Most disturbing of all: when I click on the Advanced tab in the QT window in System Preferences it hangs Systems Prefs (not responsive).
It looks like there is something wrong with the latest version.

Having problems with your Airport interface?
Sometimes configuration or plist files get screwy... Remove and re-add the buggy interface.
Just go to System Preferences > Network > Airport
...then click the "-" button at the bottom of the list. Finally, click the "+" button and choose the Airport interface - rename to Airport if the number bugs you.
Does that help? Please post back and let me know. You should also do a Permissions Repair from Disk Utility.

IPhoto 6.0.6 lost 'sync' with System Prefs/Desktop&Screensaver!?!?!?

I took my G5 to the Apple store for a check(fan speed) and when I got it back, when I go to System Prefs/desktop & Screensaver I can no longer see the folders representing the photo albums. I thought it might be an iPhoto Issue, but now I'm not so sure. I'm running 10.4.10 ans iPhoto 6.0.6. I created another user and tried the same thig and it's not working there either. I have 4100+ images in 30+ albums.
I'm almost ready to load 10.4 on my 2nd internl drive and then use migration assistant, but I don't know if THAT would work. I have repaired permissions, ran Diskwarrior 4.0, thrown out plists and prefs, and caches. I've even removed the .xml file, still without success.

OK FOLKS!!! GET THIS!! It was a single corrupt photo. The photo worked fine within iPhoto, but caused the disconnect with the system prefs. it wasn't a very big photo, or old, but I did drag it from a web page.
I ended up creating new iPhoto Libraries, and importing the photos until it broke. Then I went through the files within the one questionable folder until it broke. I pitched the file from the iPhoto Library, and my hard drive but the Library stayed broken. I just deleted it, and started over. I have all my original photos back, and in the proper albums again. Now to the tweaking all over again. 6000+ photos to go through.

Which Ipod Updater was causing trouble with ipods??

I read a while back that there was an ipod updater that was actually making the ipod not work can anyone tell me which updater this was?

I updated my ipod video w/ that ipod updater that causes trouble is there a way for me to switch back to the previous update because now the ipod plays the first 2 sec. of a song and then shuffles through the rest of the songs not allowing me listen to my downloaded music. Please help w/ my concern or let me know if there is a newer updater that will work for me.

Gnome: Trouble with system-config-printer

Hello all
I have trouble setting up my printers using system-config-printer in Gnome... I added some screenshots to the bottom of this post. When I try to add the Generic CUPS-PDF printer, the "Next" button is disabled and I am not allowed to continue. When I try to add the HP printer that is on my home network (as recognised by the config) the application throws some sort of runtime error (in terminal) and doesn't update the screen or allow me to continue.
Before moving to Arch a few weeks ago, I used Ubuntu 8.04, and it had a very different application for configuring printers (although it was also called system-config-printer). Preferably, I'd just get that application back for configuring printers, it was much more intuitive and above all it actually worked.
I would like to know how to solve my problem of not being able to add the printers I want and how to get the Ubuntu printer config on Arch if that is possible at all.

Hmm.. It doesn't really make sense to me that I need a webbrowser to configure a printer, but I gave it a try. When I tried adding the CUPS-PDF printer, it asked me what brand it was in the second step. This can't be right. When I tried adding the HP printer that is on my network, it automatically selected the correct driver from a list, but when I chose to continue it asked me for a username and a password, and providing my own did not work. So this method failed for both printers. I would really love to get back the old configuration menu from Ubuntu at this point.

The GTK theme is a personal modification of Fresh Dark that removes the Aurora style scrollbar, uses bigger icons and has nicer progress bars.
The font I use is Myriad Pro with slight hinting enabled.
The icon theme is my own mash-up of many tango-styled themes and a few custom icons and improved icons from other themes. You'll find icons there from gnome-colors, gnome-icon-theme, ubuntu-studio, and stuff found randomly on the internet and more. I'm not done perfectioning the theme though, but it's come a long way.

Recording Quicktime Screen Capture WITH system audio

Picked up Snow Leopard earlier today. All installed, nice upgrade.
I've got a question regarding the new QuickTime. With the new QuickTime feature that allows you to capture screen movements and save as a .mov file, is it possible to also capture system audio?
I currently see 3 audio input options: 1.) built in mic, 2.) Soundflower (2ch), and 3.) Soundflower (16ch).
I've tried both of the "Soundflower" options (I don't know what these are) and they don't seem to be doing anything. One alternative, I suppose, is to play the audio through speakers and let the mic pick it back up .... but there's got to be a better option than that.
Any suggestions?

Weird troubles with system resolution [ati card]

Hi all !
First post here because I'm coming from the french arch community
Straight to the point: I have a new toshiba laptop with ati hd 3650 graphic card running with proprietary drivers. Everything worked fine (Direct rendering ok) until I decided to configure dual screen with aticonfig.
I tried but it didn't work as expected so I decided to go back to my previous Xorg conf. But now I have a kind of weird behaviour. When X starts, it seems to settle as if it was still running dual screen configuration. My mouse cursor is on the right side (desktop center) and when I log on, kde shows wide desktops. Weirder is the fact that when I go to system configuration > display settings, the screen flicks and then everything went back with no wide desktop anymore... Another thing is when I've just logged on, blender run just fine, but once I've been to display settings, it shows horizontal black lines all around and is unusable though.
One more detail: on the display settings, I still can see the 2560x800 resolution setting on top of the list... I suspect kdm to use this one but how ? I don't have any idea

Troubles with system preferences

in the last days I have been trying to change my wallpaper, but when I access to desktop and screensaver window it closes and a message appears, it says that the aplication system preferences has unexpectedly been closed. it only happens with that option, the other system preferences items work perfectly. what can i do to solv this problem?

There are two things to try here. First, run Disk Utility and do a repair permissions on your hard drive. It is possible that the permissioning has gotten messed up on the preference file that controls the desktop picture.
The second thing to try is to delete the file com.apple.desktop.plist, located in your home directory under Library/Preferences. This is where the desktop picture information is stored.

Microsoft Anti-Counterfeit Program Causing Trouble with I-Tunes?

Okay, my girlfriend had a family friend build a computer for her, and of course, he installed a counterfeit XP Pro OS. She recently received the anti-counterfeit warning, and dutifully ordered the fix from MSOFT, for $149 and change.
You get the disk, which you don't need to use, and you need to run a tool which allows you to replace your counterfeit OS software key with a new one. And she did this successfully.
But now I-tunes 6 won't let her run her songs. Relevant messages are:
(1)"This computer is not authorized to play [x], wouldyou like to authorize it."
(2) She logs in with password, then it says..."Machine Authorization Successful, you have authorized 1 out of 5etc."
(3) But hit OK and you get - "We could not complete your music store request, an unknown error occurred (-208). There was an error in the music store, try again later."
Is I-tunes relying on the software key to verify authorized computers, but not able to handle a key change? Considering the scale of the MSOFT anti-counterfeit program, probably gonna be trouble! Any known info on fixing this issue?

Its a corrupt SC folder.... First goto Advanced>deauthorize over and over til you get "This PC has not been authorized"
Now follow these steps, its for a different issue but the steps are the same for deleteing the SC folder

Two iCloud accounts cause trouble with Calendar

Hello!
Accidentially I set up a second iCloud account on my second MacBook Pro. I know that was stupid... Now I want to fix this and only use one account to sync everything between my two MacBooks and iPhone.
I set up the same iCloud account in the preferences of all apps like contacts and calendar on all my devices as well as in the system preferences/icloud. It works well for contacts but not for calendar. Calendar on my second MacBook and iPhone is not switching to the new iCloud and its evets. It still shows the old events and doesn't sync.
I already tried switching iCloud off and back on after a minute for the calendar. Even waiting for 2 days and restarting the computer doesn't help.
Can I somehow delete the second iCloud account and all its data to maybe fix the trouble by that?
Btw: I have all latest software and updates on my devices.

You could simply set up calendar sharing (see also: https://support.apple.com/kb/PH2690). Justopen the calendar app on your iOS device, click calendars, and then the little "i" icon, here you can add other people and share your calendar.

Update loaded and caused trouble with mail.

got my computer after thanksgiving and it was working great until an automatic update loaded. Now I cannot get it to load hotmail at all. I do not get an error message or anything but a blank page thata says done. I have tried to restore to a few days before the download but it did not fix the problem. Does anyone have any idea what I cam do to fix this issue. It seems that everything else is working fine except the games that came WITH the computer do not play now either. (The orb games). They will load but when you hit play they just stop. Any help would be appreciated.

tried restore but hotmail still will not pull up. All the updates were to do with office except 1 that was silverlight. Don't know what that is but could it be the one that caused the problem?

Does Mavericks cause trouble with iDVD?

Why since I upgraded to Mavericks, some software doesn't work anymore? Such as iDVD, Adobe After effects, FCP sometimes shows an error message in a red background that didn't do before...

iDVD 7.1.2 works as advertised with Mavericks for me. What version are you using and what happens when you try to launch it?

On Bluecoat 400 series proxy SG when send client IP feature is enabled is posing issues when the redirection is inbound coming from Web server. Send client IP feature has to be turned on the Bluecoat device to understand the logs of IDS as the IDS's are only logging the IP of proxy which is not desirable for tracking individual client activity.I hope making sense to all the network professionals out there..any help is appreciated.

Update causing trouble with Mac Mail

I did the update this morning. All seemed ok until I tried to send an email. I can receive but not send. I check and all outgoing mail servers were gone. So I try to add my server back, get to the advanced screen to add my password and port info, when I go to click on OK nothing happens. I can't go anywhere and I have to quit mail.
Any suggestions or anyone else have this issue?

I purchased my eMac in 2004 and it came with iDVD 4.0 pre-installed. I upgraded it to iDVD 4.0.1, and everything worked fine with OS 10.3.4 and QuickTime 6.5.1. I burned 8 DVD projects with no trouble.
I recently upgraded the OS to 10.3.9 and QuickTime to 7.1.5. I just burned a DVD tonight, and the audio is out of sync. Also, one of the video files doesn't start at the beginning of the movie. It starts later.
Are these problems caused by using iDVD 4.0.1 with the newer QuickTime? Or with the newer OS? Should I go back to 10.3.9 and QT 6.5.1?

Thank you for your reply. I have followed the instructions and I am now running QuickTime 6.5.2, with OS 10.3.9 and iDVD 4.0.1.
Everything works normally except on movie files where I have a chapter marker near the beginning of the movie. On some movies I have chapter markers near the beginning, so that the viewer can select that part of the video when browsing around the disc. This causes trouble with iDVD though.
In the preview for iDVD, everything plays fine and the audio is synced fine. But, when the disc is burned, the audio is out of sync - only for those movies that had the chapter marker near the beginning. On the burned DVD, those movies play with the audio starting correctly, but the video starting at the next chapter (the second chapter marker I placed). I believe this is a bug in iDVD, since it plays perfectly in the iDVD preview, but incorrectly on the burned disc.
I have reinstalled iDVD and upgraded it to 4.0.1, and the problem is still there. It seems like my only solution would be to remove that first chapter marker.
