Quicktime (.mp4) and (.mp3) via EDGE (o2 UK)
Hi there
I seem to be unable to view mp4 quicktimes or listen to podcasts (.mp3) when using the edge network. Everything works just nicely via wi-fi but visit the same pages via EDGE and no joy (i.e. I dont get the blue play arrow just the first frame of the movie)
The example pages are the Apple Movie Trailers site and the BBC podcasts iphone site.
Is this a general restriction (I cant seem to find a reference to it anywhere if it is) - or (hopefully) a setting somewhere.
Its a bit of a pain
right - so the appearance (or non-appearance) of the blue 'play' triangle is an indication of having buffered enough to start playing?
I'm not sure if that correct as (via wi-fi) after clicking/touching the play triangle the plugin then kicks in and bring up the usual transport controls and then starts buffering

How to rip DVD to Sansa/iPod/iPhone/PSP/Zune and other MP4 and MP3 Players
This guide shows you how to rip DVD to MP4, AVI, MP3, WMV, WMA, FLV, MKV, MPG, RM, 3GP, and other video/audio formats supported by popular mp4 and mp3 players by using DVD Ripper .
Step 1: Install and run DVD Ripper
Step 2: Import DVD.
Place the DVD into your DVD drive and click the “Load DVD” button to load DVD.

Step 3: Video settings.
Select the output video format you want from the “Profile” drop-down list.

2: If you like the current image of the video you can use the “Snapshot” opinion. Just click the “Snapshot” button the image will be saved and you can click the “File” next to “Snapshot” button to open your picture. You can select the destination of the picture by clicking the “Preference” button. As default the captured image will be saved at:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Aiseesoft Studio\Snapshot
3: If you want to merge the selected contents into one file you can check the “merge into one file” option. As default the merged file is named after the first selected file (either a title or a chapter)
4: You can click the “Settings” button to set your video parameters.
In the Video Settings, you can select Encoder, Frame Rate, Resolution and Bitrate for your movie
In the Audio Settings, you can select Encoder, Channels, Bitrate and Sample Rate for your movie.
when you choose the specific settings, the lower window will show the "help" to explain the meanings of each setting.
Step 4: Start conversion
Click the “Start” button to start your conversion and in a short while it will be finished.
Step 5: Click “Open” button to open your output destination file.
More tips:
1: Trim Movie
If you just want to convert a clip from your DVD movie, you can click the “Trim” button to open the Trim dialog, you can trim a duration of the selected title or chapter by either dragging the Start Time and End Time sliders or setting the time parameters in each corresponding field.
After you set the trimming time, the length of the captured clip will be shown in the Select Length box for your reference.
2. Movie Effect
If you want to change the original video effect, you can click the Effect icon to set the video brightness, contrast, saturation, etc. You can also set the special effect for your movie to cater to your need.
3. Video Crop
With Aiseesoft DVD Ripper you can remove the black edges around your movie video by checking the “Crop” option, so you can watch your movie on your portable players in full screen.
There are three methods available to crop your video:
Method 1: Crop by selecting a crop mode
Select a crop mode in the crop mode drop-down list and click OK to save the crop. There are three pre-set crop modes
for your choice: No Crop, Cut off top and bottom black edges, Cut off top black edge.
Method 2: Crop by adjusting the crop frame
The crop frame is the dashed line around the movie video. There are four adjustment lines on the crop frame. Each line allows you to crop the movie video from a different position.
To crop your movie video, you can just move your mouse cursor to an adjustment box and drag the crop frame.
Method 3: Crop by setting the crop values
There are four crop values on the lower left part of the crop window: Up, Down, Left and right. You can set each value to crop your movie video, and the crop frame will move accordingly.
Before you start to crop your movie video, you can select an output aspect ratio from the Zoom list. There are four choices available: Full screen, Keep original, 16:9 and 4:3. After you select an output aspect ratio and finish the crop, the result can be previewed in the Preview window of the program main interface.

I cant play audio only mp4 or mp3 file with audio tag in firefox...how to tackle this?
In my web application m trying to play audio only mpeg 4 or mp3 files.I m using HTML5 <audio> tag to accomplish this,it smoothly working in chrome but not in firefox.Why this basic support not avail in Firefox??
Note: I read about some patent issues with mp4 and mp3 but i wonder why chrome browser can play those files.Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. I've had a website on mac.com from the beginning. I write my own coding using HTML. Sometimes for holidays I like to add a link to a particular holiday song to my home page - a small quicktime console which allows the visitor to click to hear the song. Lately, the console doesn't show up in Safari, so I'm wondering if I need to update my coding. I've seen dozens of posts in this same line (.mp3 fails to work in Safari and shows a small QuickTime icon with a question mark).

Its a bit of a painIt could be due to the slowness of the particular Edge connection you are getting -- if it's too slow that will indeed be a symptom.

Earlier, (using previous versions) I have converted video clips to MP3 audio using iTunes without any problem from the advanced menu. Now I dont see the "convert to MP3" when I select a video. The original concert video was "Quicktime Movie" and I converted it to MPEG4 (MP4), but it still does not give me the feature to convert to MP3.
Any ideas? Has this feature been removed since the introduction of new iPods with video? ( It does let me "convert selection for iPod for the quicktime movie format but the MP4 is already iPod format) . I have an iPod Photo (30 GB) and would like to transfer audio from some of the videos.
Thanks.Changing the file extension isn't supposed to make iTunes convert it in any way - its meant to make iTunes ignore the video portion.
If when you changed the file extension to '.m4a' you got the confirm window ("Are you sure you want to change..."), and then choose 'Use .m4a', then all is fine. The finder doesn't doesn't always automatically update the info. You can close the Get Info window, and re-Get Info to see the change if that makes a difference to you.
Once you add the newly renamed foo.m4a file in iTunes, the "convert to [your selected audio encoder] should be now available under the Advanced menu. Is it? If it is, then you need to do the conversion to an audio file yourself.
If it isn't then delete the file from the iTunes library and re-add it. The little movie icon at the end of the 'name' column canNOT be there. If that didn't work, the file extension is still causing you problems. You can also use a utility like FileBuddy to set the TYPE code to 'M4A ' (that's a space at the end there). -

Yeah, I remember someone posted that solution a long time
ago. It seems if you load a file with the same name the cache
doesn't
know any better and adjusts the download size to the smaller
one. Maybe it's a good way to do it! Could it be a way to remove an
mp3 from someone's cache after it plays? hmmmm Will have to

ITunes and QT crashes when trying to open mp4, wav and mp3
Hi.
QT or iTunes crashes when I try to open files such as MP3, MP4 and WAV. And even when I want to watch a video on Youtube so it only plays 2 seconds and then white box.
I've installed QT X and then removed it and re-installed QT7 because I thought that was the problem, but I have the same problem even after re-installation of the QT Player 7 by the OSX installDVD.
Can anyone here tell me what is the solution to this?

Usually by a logical process of elimination. The first step would normally be to determine if the proble is local or global. This can be tested by thre creation of a second user account and checking to see if the same problem exists. I.e., if the problem does not exist, then it is local to you first user account and may be something as simple as a corrupt PLIS file. On the other hand, if the proble exists in both user accounts, the it is a global problem like a corrupt application, a conflict with another app, or an OS-wide problem. Basically, the results of each test gives some indication of what you should try next. -
i have downloaded a tune and it has com as an MP4 file i wanted MP3 why has it come as MP4 and what can i do it is no good to me as an MP4 file
Tracks sold by the iTunes Store have been AAC since the Store first opened. They've never sold tracks in MP3 format. You can convert the tracks, though, if you need them as MP3. See:

MOV, and MP3 files will not open in photoshop CS6
I'm studying Photoshop at home using Pearson's " Class in a Book", from Adobe. I'm now stuck in Chapter 10, editing Videos, because I cannot open two files needed to proceed with the next excercise. I'm not able to open 3 of the 9 files in Photoshop, even tried to drag, change format, etc. All the other files with formats like MP4 and JPG have no problem opening, only those with MP3 & MOV extensions. I Should note that I can open all the files directly from windows file explorer or using Bridge, through Quicktime. I need to open in Photoshop so I can do the exercises. Please can someone help me? Bellow, is the message i get when I try to move the file to Photoshop.

Windows 8.1 elements 12 - I have a project underway that was operating fine as i built the video file, then stopped accepting new files, both mp4 and jpeg. It appears to accept them when dragged onto the timeline but then they immediately disappear. Any solutions?

That is an unusual situation that you are presenting.
Have you updated from 12 to 12.1 via the project's Help Menu/Update? If not, please do so.
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 8.1 presumed 64 bit?
The usual drill
a. What is your project preset? What are the properties of your sources media? What is the brand/model/settings of the camera recording your mp4 and jpeg.
What are the pixel dimensions of these jpeg images and how many of them are there in the project (especially when the problems set in).
b. What is the size/duration of your Timeline content when the program no longer accepts new files?
c. Describe status of your computer resources. Also, where are the Scratch Disks directed and how much free hard drive space is at that location(s)?
Troubleshooting for Unexpected/Unexplained project problems...Deletion of the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and, if necessary, the whole 12.0 Folder in which it exists.

and in the 12.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then delete the whole 12.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Be sure to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the complete path cited.
Let us start from the above and then decide what next.

Big Color Shift between exported H264 mp4 and Program Monitor
I get a big Color Shift between exported H264 mp4 on Vimeo/Youtube and Quicktime X and Program Monitor.
There are quite a few posts on Quicktime gamma issues, but there seem to be no solutions and the other editors I know don't seem to have this problem.
I know there will be a bit of a shift but this is MASSIVE. At the moment I add a whole extra adjustment layer to all my clips to get it approximately right, but ofcourse this does not solve the issue nor does it give proper results.
Please do not reply with the "You need a real reference monitor via SDI etc etc ..."
By my logic on the same screen the program monitor should resemble what is going to be the final result in a relevant player like Quicktime X which all normal apple consumers use to watch their films. I know VLC and Mpeg streamclip gives different results, but mostly when playing Quicktime/h264 files Quicktime will play it thus average users ( the people I'd like to downwload/buy my films )will watch it in Quicktime.
Furthermore, Quicktime X's gamma/color looks very similar to the image I get on Youtube or Vimeo - which is where all my current work is going. I'm not outputting to boradcast or DVD etc.
Strangely enough the MPEG 2 stuff I've done for DVD matches the Youtube output with the Program monitor.
What am I doing wrong?
I have a Dell 2711 wide Gamut Display which is calibrated with an SPyder 3 Elite using its full colour gamut ( close to 90% of Adobe RGB - thus bigger than sRGB or Rec709) Could Premiere be ignoring the calibration in the Program monitor and making the image values 16-235 and then Quicktime uses all values 0-255? If so, how can I fix this?
Any help will be much appreciated!I know this has been a while so hopefully you found some help by now, but maybe this will help anyone stumbling across this.
What people seem to be missing in what you are asking is... this is the same file, on the same monitor, but with a different appearance in different software. It is not a question of whether the overall monitoring is GOOD, and it is not a matter of hardware settings (as that would most likely propogate across all software) it is that it is not CONSISTENT side by side on the very same monitor.
I had very similar issues that really seemed to get worse when we got new monitors, which is what lead me to chime in here. The monitors were also wide gamut displays.
The problem is likely this...
1. The difference being shown are the difference between software that properly color manages (i.e. Premier or After Effects) and software that does not (i.e. Quicktime or some web browsers)
2. The reason it is so severe is that the wide gamut monitors are able to show many more colors and thus the difference between the managed and unmanaged software is much more exagerrated than on regular gamut monitors.
I found this great link that helped calm my nerves and helped me get handle on much of what is going on.

Now that is not to say that the 0-255/16-235 issue is not also involved here. It is definitely possible that a specific codec or compressor is part of the problem, but it sounds like it starts with the color management issue first.

New updates won't transfer any MP4 or MP3 files anymore!
Ok... before the itune and ipod update, I've had absolutely no problem transfering my mp4 video files or my mp3 files into my ipod. I usually just drag the icons from my folder to itunes.
Now after updating in itunes 7 and updating my ipod through it, I cant transfer any mp4 or mp3 files anymore?!?!? What the heck? It will show it transfering at the top (of itunes) but I cant locate ANY of the new files I placed in my ipod. I ALWAYS use manual update and I dont want to change it because I dont want to lose all of my stuff on my ipod.
What the heck is the problem???
30GB 5th gen Ipod Windows XPWAIT A SEC!!!! i think i've figured it out... just DOUBLE check and TRIPLE check that you have the LATEST version of quicktime... I thought I did, but as it turned out, i had version 7.0.4 when the latest is 7.1. So after i upgraded quicktime, itunes worked fine, and i was able to load videos onto both itunes and my ipod successfully.... even the 1.2 update stopped causing problems. Once again, just MAKE SURE you have the latest update of quicktime. You don't need to go pro, just make sure you have 7.1. I hope this works for everyone like it did for me...

Sharing an iMovie as an MP4 with MP3 audio
I have an iMovie that is complete. I have uploaded a Quicktime movie to Google video. The video plays but no audio. They are telling me that they prefer MP4 with MP3 audio. If I go to share in iMovie, I choose "export" mode. This gives me the MP4 option, but no way to change the audio to mp3. Am I missing something?
iMovie doesn't use (or create) .mp3 (MPEG-1 Layer 3) audio.

How do I share presentations between Mac and PC via email
I have a PowerPoint (2010) presentation that was created on a PC and want to share it via email with users who may be on Macs.
The catch is that it contains several "embedded" You Tube videos. The videos play on my PC, but not on my Mac (just a black screen). I understand this is because the presentation actually "links" to You Tube instead of "embedding" the videos, and the links don't survive when the presentation is opened in PowerPoint on the Mac.
I've updated the presentation in Powerpoint for Mac (2011) so it will play on both platforms by downloading the presentations from You Tube, converting them to MP4, and embedding the converted videos into the presentation. However, this results in a HUGE file sizes that can't be emailed (e.g., embedding ONE video bumped the file size from 2M to 17M). Plus, there may be copyright issues.
I've also imported the presentation into Keynote. There are a few formatting glitches, but the big problem is still the video. I get the following error message for each video during the import process: "Import Warning - The movie"/embed/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" couldn't be found.". Plus, I couldn't find any way of re-linking the videos in the Keynote version of the presentation.
I've also tried making a video of the presentation, but had problems with the "embedded" videos once again, and never got far enough to see if this would result in acceptable file sizes.
One other thing. The author does not want to put the presentation up on the web or some other shared facility for security/confidentiality reasons.
So, has anyone solved this problem?
