QuickTime Taking over my down loads

I have and use iTunes (iPod). When I installed iTunes the software also installed a plain jane version of QT. I didn't really care until it, QT, took over my music down loads. I down load free music from some sites like GarageBand.com and such. Before QT was installed I had no problem doing this. I just select the MP3 and down load it. Now that QT is installed I can no longer do that. Instead of simply downloading the mp3 file, QT comes up and takes over the download. QT will allow me to play the song, it loads it and all. However when I reaquest QT save the file as a source file it will not allow me to since I don't have the "full" version of the QT program.
Next thing you know QT wants me to buy the full program. I don't need that. I just want to download and save the MP3 file.
Can anyone tell me how to get QT out of the middle of my downloads?
I have been into the control panel --> QT --> file types and turned off everything except .mov However QT STILL comes up every time I try an MP3 download.
How do I get QT out of my hair? If I uninstall it I can down load mp3s just fine but then iTunes won't work.

Thanks for the help but QT is clearly the root of the problem. For years before hand and on several different computers I have had no problem downloading mp3 files. I never had a problem until I first loaded iTunes and the installer inserted QT also. Then major problem.
Also, if I uninstall QT I once again have no problem. This is Apple taking a page from the Bill Gate's "How to force customers to buy your product" business book. Apple has forced QT to insert itself in my computer and browsers, both Netscape and Explorer. They also have forced it to start at boot up. None of which I wanted, asked for or needed. Then, Apple does this nice little sneaky move and does not provide you the full copy and they end up forcing you to buy it.
There must be a hundered other mp3 players out there, WMP, RealPlayer, Music Match, etc... none require you to buy any other software and none take over your down loads.
Does anyone know how to stop QT from running at boot up?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Quicktime taking over files not associated with it

I downloaded itunes and it had quicktime coupled with it. Now when I'm in IE it opens my .tiff files in quicktime instead of Microsoft Office Picture Manager. I have checked the file associations and it still says Microsoft Office Picture Manager. What can I do so when I click on a .tiff file on the internet that it wont automatically open in quicktime??

Try going in to the registry (Start>Run> type regedit, click ok) and cleaning out HKEYCLASSESROOT\QuickTime\ specifically look for folders and keys with TIF or TIFF in them. I have a feeling though QT will rebuild at the next startup as this has been the trend.
You could also try installing eiStream (now Global 360) Imaging for Windows. This program make for a nice Tiff viewer on it's own but more importantly it will erase QuickTime's file association and instead ask weather you want to save or choose a program to open with. This has worked well for me in the past but lately on one users machine QT will seal the file association back after a reboot.

Adobe flash player 10 taking forever to down load!

I have not long rebooted my whole pc as i was having a few problems. Finally i'm back up and running and i try to install adobe 10 which i have used before and had no problems downloading it only took a couple of minutes. But this time when i'm trying to download it seems to be taking forever i mean about 1% per hour and i have been unable to download it. my java script is enabled and i have 704 mb of ram. I just cant get to the bottom of it? please help.

Hi, what operating system are your using and is it 32bit or 64bit. Also what browser(s) are you using and versions please.
Did you Uninstall Flash Player using the Adobe Uninstaller prior to trying to download?
Check your Security setting for the Internet Zone and make sure it is set at Medium.
Anti-Virus/Spyware/Firewall programs, ad blockers, etc can have an affect also.

Sorry to say it, but I think you can see from Bob's response that there's no way to solve this rapidly.
Did you take an image of your Mountain Lion install before upgrading to Yosemite? Roll back to that. If you're not in the habit of taking a snapshot of your system before performing operating system upgrades - get in that habit. If you are dependent on anything at all on hour computer, having a reliable backup method in place is essential. If you don't have a Time Capsule, or some other way to run Time Machine onto a disk that's not in your computer, go set that up yesterday.
If you can't just remove Yosemite and roll back to Mountain Lion for whatever reason, you can partition your drive so that you can install both Yosemite and Mountain Lion on the same drive, and then boot into Mountain Lion when you need to work in CS5. Or you can take your Mountain Lion disc (I assume you have one, no?) and then use it to create a virtual machine in something like VirtualBox to run Mountain Lion from inside Yosemite.

I have windows XP. I have a DVD that I was told was made in MOV. I have tried and tried to down load quicktime to play it, but all I can get is audio. It brings up the opening picture of the video then it stops there and plays the audio fine.

It should play in QuickTime.
Try dragging the file from the mounted DVD to the desktop (it will copy). It may playback properly.

The frames are blank but indicates that there is a photo there. The majority of photos are blank but about a tenth are seen . i apparently need to retrace where they went but do not know how to get that done . can someone help please?

It would be difficult to tell you where to begin. If you moved photos around to different folders and didn't use Lightroom to move them, that would cause Lightroom to lose track of where they are. You have to remember that your images are not "in" Lightroom. Lightroom simply points to them wherever they are on your computer. All of the location information as well as the changes that you make to your images is stored in the catalog, which is a database. This catalog is central to the operation of Lightroom, and it's essential that you understand how it works and how to make it work for you. For all of those images that have "?" On them, or the folders that have the same, you will have to go through the process of locating them and showing Lightroom where they are located. With 18,000 images, and many of them missing, it might just be easier to start a new catalog and organize things properly from the beginning in that catalog.

Cancel the downloads and reset the iPad (Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the iPad shuts off. Ignor the off slider. Then turn the iPad back on). Go back to the Purchased screen in the I.tunes app and redownload. You may want to down load one at a time.

By cable standards it's not very fast. Assuming it runs at top speed with no hiccups at either end you can download about 650 KB/s. So, that suggests it will take a little over two hours. Of course transfers are rarely ever perfect, so could take more than two yours, realistically. My pipe is about four times faster than yours, and I've seen the download take twice as long as it "should."
