RAC upgrade from11gR1  to 11gR2

Could someone please give steps to upgrade 11gr1 to 11gr2 on linux

Did you try even a basic search before posting this request? In future, suggests doing that before turning to forums.
This being your first post, go to oracle 11gR2 home page and search for "How to Upgrade to Oracle Grid Infrastructure 11g Release 2" and pick the one for your OS
Cheers.

    How to perform 10g RAC upgrade to 11g with Dataguard in place?
    OS=LINUX
    RDBMS=10.2.0.4
    DG=PHYSICAL STANDBY
    Below is my understanding
    1)Install 11g CRS in NEW_CRS_HOME
    2)Install 11g in NEW_ASM_HOME
    3)Install 11g in NEW_RDBMS_HOME
    4)Export the new NEW_ORACLE_HOME and start up the database with startup upgrade.
    5) Run the catupgrade.sql script.
    Are there any other steps involve?
    In case I have to rollback then how to rollback CRS.

    Personally I would use DBUA instead of catupgrade.sql, but make sure you follow the upgrade documentation for pre-checks etc. You will also need to use netca to recreate the sqlnet listeners in the 11g homes and register with 11g CRS.
    CRS is generally fairly quick to re-install and re-register databases, and this is cleaner than trying to restore OCR and VOTE disks etc. If you prefer to rollback be sure you backup the OCR and VOTE disks (e.g use dd), backup /etc/oracle, CRS_HOME, /etc/init* scripts etc.
    The dataguard standby database should roll forward through the upgrade, but you will need to manually register the standby with 11gCRS. Make sure you have your DB and Log create_file_dest's set, as well as standby_file_management=auto. Personally I would manually recover the standby after the upgrade in case I need to use it to fallback.

    Database 10.2.0.4
    I am planning on upgrading 10gr2 to 11gr2(11.2.03) in EBS 11.5.10.2.
    I was going thru document 881505.1 under Veryfy software versions, it says autoconfig latest version with 9835302 patch.
    In note 165195.1 using autoconfig to manage Configurations with oracle systems under patching autoconfig, says apply patch 9525311.
    which one should be applying?
    9835302 patch or 9525311?
    Thanks.

    The doc says "Also apply patch 9835302" in addition to AutoConfig patches, so you need to apply both -- (Patch 9835302 and Patch 9535311).

  • RAC upgradation 9i to 11g R2

    Hi,
    I have been given the requirement to migrate a 9i RAC 3 node database( 9i cluster) to 11g R2 RAC database iam looking for a document or steps to do this activity. any help on this is highly appreciated.
    should I upgrade the cluster first and then upgrade each node one by one or I should upgrade the cluster and upgrade all the home in one go ?
    Thanks,
    Satish Abraham.J

    Hi,
    Since you are using RAC database , you need to upgrade Clusterware (11.2.0.3) first , then RAC database upgrade(11.2.0.3).
    For RAC Upgrade to 11.2.0.3 we have following options/upgrade_methods available:-
    +1.Manual Upgrade (using catupgrd.sql script)+
    You have to do this in two steps:-
    9.2.0.3 ---->9.2.0.8 ----> 11.2.0.3
    +2. Using DBUA (Database Upgrade Assistant)+
    +3. Export / Import+
    If you have MOS access, then you can refer following Note:-

    Can someone tell me some good approach for upgrading a single instance 10.2.0.2 database of approx size 2TB to 11.2.0.3 rac 2 node db on linux.

    Hi;
    1. You can upgrade your db to 11gr2 first than convert it to rac
    2. You can use RMAN and restore it to new 11gR2 server
    3. You can use expdp/impdp to new 11gR2 server

    Dear All,
    I wanted to inquire if someone can provide high level guidance for a 10GR2 to 11Gr2 upgrade while staying on 11.5.10.2.  My two core Metalink docs are the first two below but wondering if there is an Interoperability Note specifically for for a 10g to 11g upgrade within 11i... just curious if I am missing a core doc, i haven't been able to find one specifically in metalink other than the ones below.

    No other docs are available or needed here, as you mentioned the first two docs are the main ones, first one to upgrade/configure RAC to 11gR2 which refers to the interop docs for the database upgrade.

    What other doc are you looking for? Do you see anything missing in the docs you already have?

  • Owbsys.wb_rt_api_exec.open fails after upgrade to OWB 11gR2

    The following code is used as a PLSQL wrapper to execute OWB mappings and is based on the good old run_my_own_stuff.sql. We have been mandated to use Tivoli as the corporate scheduler, meaning we do not have Workflow as a solution. We have implemented the audit_execution_id as an input parameter to all the mappings to be able to link the data to the OWBSYS audit tables, as well as return mapping performance and success info to the execution process/session. I have implemented this exact same procedure in 10gR1, 10gR2 and 11gR1 (current dev env) with no problems at all - the code ports easily. However following an upgrade (actually an export/import of the repository from 11gR1 on a 64bit solaris to 11gR2 on Exadata running enterprise linux 5) - actually the test server (I know, I know, I said the same thing!), the code now fails on the wb_rt_api_exec.open line (highlighted).

    Does anyone out there know if there is a difference between 11gR1 and R2 in the way that the wb_rt_api_exec function works?
    Is there a simple way to retrieve the audit_id before executing the mapping, or at a push during the mapping so that we can maintain the link between the session data and the OWBSYS audit data?
    Martin

    Hi David, I have been reading some of your posts and blogs around OWB and I still have not found the answer.
    OK, thereis/was a script that Oracle Support/forums/OTN sent out a while ago called "run_my_iowb_stuff" - I am sure you will be familiar with it. I based the code I uploaded on it and added additional functionality. In essence, I wanted to use the audit_id as an input parameter tot he mapping, so that I can register the audit_id in the management tables, and associate each row of loaded data with a specific mapping_id which would allow a simple link to the owbsys audit tables to complete the audit circle. To that end, I used the owbsys.wb_rt_api_exec.open procedure to register the mapping execution, and then on the execute procedure of the same package, I passed this audit_id in as a custom parameter:
    <<snip>>
    owbsys.wb_workspace_management.set_workspace (v_workspace_name, v_workspace_owner);
    v_audit_execution_id := owbsys.wb_rt_api_exec.open (v_map_type, v_map_name, v_loc_name, 'PLSQL');
    IF v_audit_execution_id IS NULL
    OR v_audit_execution_id = 0
    THEN
    RAISE e_execution_id_error;
    END IF;
    v_retval := v_retval || 'audit_execution_id=' || TO_CHAR (v_audit_execution_id);
    IF v_include_mapping_id > 0 -- if non-zero, submit owb execution id as an input parameter to the map process
    THEN
    owbsys.wb_rt_api_exec.override_input_parameter (
    v_audit_execution_id,
    'p_execution_id',
    TO_CHAR (v_audit_execution_id),
    owbsys.wb_rt_api_exec.parameter_kind_custom
    END IF;
    <<snip>>
    The execution is closed, also by the use of the audit_id ( "owbsys.wb_rt_api_exec.close (v_audit_execution_id)" )
    I can also use the audit_id to inspect the audit tables to retrieve the records processed as well as any associated error messages, and format them for the calling application (owSQL*Plus, which is normally the context of our current use).
    This procedure has been working weel up to now until we moved over to 11gR2 when all of a sudden the audit_id is not returned when executing "v_audit_execution_id := owbsys.wb_rt_api_exec.open (v_map_type, v_map_name, v_loc_name);". Prior to 11gR2 this worked like a charm - now it has crashed to a halt.
    As an interesting twist, I have tried to substitute a sequence number for the audit_id, and then tried to get the audit_id after the mapping completes, so that I can put both the sequence and audit id in a table so it maintains the link. However in attempting to use the owbsys.wb_rt_script_util.run_task procedure which now appears to be the only thing left working, I was astonished to see the following output in sqlplus:
    SQL> exec map1('stg_brand')
    Stage 1: Decoding Parameters
    | location_name=STAGE_MOD
    | task_type=PLSQLMAP
    | task_name=STG_BRAND
    Stage 2: Opening Task
    | l_audit_execution_id=2135
    Stage 3: Overriding Parameters
    Stage 4: Executing Task
    | l_audit_result=1 (SUCCESS)
    Stage 5: Closing Task
    Stage 6: Processing Result
    | exit=1
    --> SUCCESS
    Execution time = .647362 seconds.
    records/sec
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL>
    This output seems so identical to the "run_my_owb_stuff" that either Oracle support generated their "run_my_owb_stuff" as a lightweight owbsys.wb_rt_script_util.run_task procedure, or Oracle incorporated the "run_my_owb_stuff" script into their owbsys.wb_rt_script_util.run_task procedure! Which way round I cannot say, but it is surely one or the other! To make matters worse, I have raised this with Oracle Support, and they have the temerity to claim that they do not support the "run_my_owb_stuff" script, but think enough of it to incorporate it into their own package in a production release!
    To overcome my problems, in the short term, I need to be able to access the audit_id either during or after the execution of the mapping, so that I can at least associate that with a sequence number I am having to pass in as a parameter to each mapping. In the longer term, i would like a solution to be able to access the audit_id before I execute the mapping, as I could by calling the "owbsys.wb_rt_api_exec.open " procedure. Ideally this would be solved first and I would not need to use a sequence at all.
    Hope this clarifies things a bit.

  • Oracle 10g RAC to 11g RAC Upgrade on Solaris

    Hi,
    We are planning to do a migration of a 4 Node Oracle 10g RAC on Solaris 9 to 11g with Solaris 10. We'd like know what would be the best path to take. We cannot afford any downtime!
    Options: Are these feasible? Which option is best? Any documents links?
    a) Do a rolling upgrade of Oracle from 10g to 11g. Then take down individual nodes and upgrade the Solaris OS from 9 to 10 and bring them up back into the cluster. Is there any known issues taking this path? Is a rolling upgrade like this possible?
    b) Do an upgrade of the Solaris OS from 9 to 10 on each node and then bring them back up? Is this practical? Does Oracle allow different versions of OS running on different nodes?
    c) Use Dataguard with 2 different RAC environments (2 nodes each). How would this work? Is it the only possible way? Any steps please?
    Thanks

    a) Do a rolling upgrade of Oracle from 10g to 11g. Then take down individual nodes and upgrade the Solaris OS from 9 to 10 and bring them up back into the cluster. Is there any known issues taking this path? Is a rolling upgrade like this possible?Hi,
    first of all i would not change several components (OS, database version) at a time. My recommendation is to make small steps and start with the operating system first. Seconds recommendation is to test and test everything in your dev or test environment prior doing the upgrades in the productive environment. Trust me: You will face problems :-) So you better try it beforehand!
    b) Do an upgrade of the Solaris OS from 9 to 10 on each node and then bring them back up? Is this practical? Does Oracle allow different versions of OS running on different nodes?As far i know you can run different operating system versions on different nodes if they are supported (Solaris 9 and 10 are).

  • Error upgrading repository to 11gR2

    Have a 10.2.0.4 repository and trying to upgrade to 11gR2.
    Ran the cat_owb.sql script, and unlocked the OWBSYS and OWBSYS_AUDIT acounts
    Ran the reset_owbcc_home.sql script
    Started the repository admin tool, selected "Upgrade Repository...", then "Export entire repository..."
    Entered credentials for the 10.2.0.4 repository owner
    Set the file information, and clicked Finish to start the export.
    At 21% complete, a SQL Exception is thrown. The log file reports:

  • 10g RAC upgrade

    We are planning to install 10gR2 RAC on Sun solaris 10 with Veritas and Hiatchi SAN. After that, we would like to upgrade 9iRAC database to 10g RAC.
    We tried once, the CRS install was okay.
    But, we couldn't bring dbua up ( We made sure Xwindow setup is fine etc.. ).
    Can somebody share the environment variables to, set before we start DBUA and also during CRS install.
    Also, if you have a good document to upgrade 9iRAC to 10gRAC on Sun solaris with Veritas.
    Thanks

  • Upgrading to Clusterware 11Gr2 question

    I am need to upgrade to 11Gr2 clusterware from 11Gr1. One of the pre-reqs is to have a newer verision of ASMLIB.
    I have not found any docs that referr to the upgrade ASMLIB. What my sysadmin is indicating is that if this is done
    All of my current asm info will be lost since all of the disk lables are removed. I believe his method ws going to be
    to remove old RPM and install new RPM. Does anyone know what the correct process is for upgrading the ASMLIB?
    thanks
    Igy

    My ASMLIB is the version 10.2.0.4this is not a asmlib vesion; it's rmbms version.
    rpm -qa oracleasmlib using this check your asm lib version
