Radeon / kms / dri problems

Hi,
after messing around a few days with my new arch installation (and probably every other live distro in the last few weeks),
I'm really tired of the problems related with the open source radeon driver.
I read the ATI guide as well as the Xorg guide, but my specific problem isn't mentioned anywhere I searched for it.
It seems that kms isn't working with my graphics card (ATI Radeon HD3870), because none of the distro's and/or kernel versions I tried ever worked when kms was enabled. It simply "displays" a black screen, and nothing ever happens. Now I use kernel 3.2.6-2-ARCH on x86_64.
The biggest problem isn't kms because I kind of got used to it. What bothers me most is that I get a black screen too when using the radeon driver in xorg.
No keyboard response, no ssh possible. Not even Xorg.0.log is populated in this scenario.
I realized that when using the vesa driver, everything is fine (except for pretty slow graphics).
When playing around with the files in
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d
and disabling dri manually, I also get to see graphics, pretty similar to the vesa driver.
Is anybody out there with similar problems?
Thanks in advance, any help is highly appreciated
Greets

Thanks for the responses, but catalyst/fglrx never was an option for me.
Today I changed my graphics card, still had an ATI HD2600XT lying around here.
Now everything works perfectly, must have been some hardware fault with the other card, although it worked as it should in Windows 7.
Right now quite happy with kms and gallium

  • [Solved] ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2300 Problem - fglrx not loading

I changed the currently unreliable GS 8600 nvidia card in my laptop to a compatible old ATI HD 2300 card from a similar model laptop but I can't get the Catalyst drivers to work with it. The open source driver xf86-video-ati works well with it for basic use, but is not so good for 3D. This card should work with an Amilo xi-2428 & has done for other people who have developed faulty nvidia cards.
I have the legacy driver installed from AUR (Catalyst-total-hd234k) and have enabled Vi0L0's [xorg112] server properly in pacman.conf & downgraded to Xorg-server 1.12. I also tried downgrading to Xorg-server 1.11 & reinstalling the drivers from AUR. Plus I have enabled and tried Vi0L0's [catalyst-hd234k] repo in place of the AUR package each time too. Made no difference. I've blacklisted radeon too.
When the laptop boots systemd-modules-load.service shows as failed.
    $ sudo systemctl --failed
    UNIT LOAD ACTIVE SUB DESCRIPTION
systemd-modules-load.service loaded failed failed Load Kernel Modules
LOAD = Reflects whether the unit definition was properly loaded.
ACTIVE = The high-level unit activation state, i.e. generalization of SUB.
SUB = The low-level unit activation state, values depend on unit type.
1 loaded units listed. Pass --all to see loaded but inactive units, too.
To show all installed unit files use 'systemctl list-unit-files'.
    [fyn@Finnix ~]$ systemctl status systemd-modules-load

    man:modules-load.d(5)
    Process: 121 ExecStart=/usr/lib/systemd/systemd-modules-load (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)
It is only the fglrx module which fails to load:-
    $ sudo journalctl -b _PID=121
    -- Logs begin at Fri, 2012-10-26 09:21:22 GMT, end at Wed, 2012-12-19 15:38:07 G

Dec 19 15:29:57 Finnix systemd-modules-load[121]: Inserted module 'vboxnetflt'
I have no idea how to get fglrx to load & since it fails to load so early during boot I doubt the problem lies with my Xorg.conf. Likewise neither aticonfig or the ATI control center work.
    aticonfig: No supported adapters detected
    amdcccle just give this message
"There was a problem initializing Catalyst Control Center Linux edition. It could be caused by the following.
No AMD graphics driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning properly.
Please install the AMD driver appropriate for you AMD hardware, or configure using aticonfig."

Solved. The  ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2300 was based on an earlier design & was not really one of the HD 2*** cards, even tho it was released as one (HD 2*** cards are R600 series while the HD 2300 is based on the R500 generation). So the offical drivers for it were relegated to legacy in 2009 with AMD's Catalyst 9.3 release & are no longer supported. Pretty crappy considering the HD 2300 was only on the market from 2007.
To use the official catalyst drivers would require xorg 1.5.3 and kernel 2.6.29..... with no support for newer distros.
Using open source drivers, cannot remember all the packages but have listed some below in case it helps anyone:-
    xf86-video-ati
    ati-dri
    lib32-ati-dri
    libtxc_dxtn
    lib32-libtxc_dxtn
    mesa
    lib32-mesa
No xorg.conf needed for it using kms, but can make a config file to tweak if you like in the xorg.conf.d directory called 20-radeon.conf

Thanks for the response. It is not an obvious hardware issue. I would contact HP phone support to get the hardware addressed. You can utilize this website to learn how to contact HP appropriately, based on your region: Contact HP Worldwide
Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. Thanks!

  • Radeon kms, xrandr and xorg-server 1.7

I upgraded to xorg-server 1.7.2 the other day and now I've been getting immediate segfaults every time I try to use xrandr. All I'm doing is running:
    xrandr --output VGA-0 --left-of DVI-0
which used to work perfectly with 1.6.3.901. It still does because I downgraded the xserver and all of my xf86 drivers.
Do I need to start typing my xrandr commands in a different way? Is this happening to anyone else? I'm using an r300 card with kernel 2.6.31.6 and modesetting enabled. My xorg.conf is below.

  • Macmini withh radeon graphics blinking problem via AV receiver

I have problem with connect via HDMI port in AVreceiver Marantz SR6003.
AVreceiver sync the signal but picture is not stable. Picture flashing about 1 sec period. (Picture, whitenoise, black ,Picture....)
This problem is not on other devices like monitor atc. only with AVreceiver. Mac mini detect AVreceiver correctly in display preferences. Other sources works fine on receiver.
Problem starts on my last update, ( one of them is EFI for graphics )
    Please send any idea...
    Thanks  Bybo

Unfortunately it's a desktop with a flat-screen monitor; VGA cable connection. The only information on model that I have is from the monitors' configuration menu:  "Dell E248WFP".
More detail on the graphics card: "lspci|grep VGA" gives "01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] RV280 [Radeon 9200 PRO] (rev 01)"

  • Radeon audio codec problem

    hello everyone
i am new to arch and all wiki entries, threads, google and #archlinux didnt help me.
i want sound through hdmi, i am using a radeon 4550 (xf86-video-ati, R700 is in the feature matrix)
    some outputs:
lsmod only has things on snd-hda-intel, which is the onboard sound, i guess
    snd_hda_intel 36520 3
    snd_hda_codec 148129 2 snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hda_intel
    snd_pcm 77765 2 snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_intel
    snd_page_alloc 7234 2 snd_pcm,snd_hda_intel
    snd 59141 12 snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hwdep,snd_timer,snd_pcm,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_intel
so aplay -l also only has
    card 0: VT82xx [HDA VIA VT82xx], device 0: ALC888 Analog [ALC888 Analog]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
    card 0: VT82xx [HDA VIA VT82xx], device 1: ALC888 Digital [ALC888 Digital]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
    but lspci shows
02:00.1 Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] RV710/730 HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 4000 series]
i think the problem shows up in dmesg|grep hda-intel
    [ 1.735291] hda-intel 0000:02:00.1: Handle VGA-switcheroo audio client
    [ 2.753347] hda-intel 0000:02:00.1: Codec #0 probe error; disabling it...
    [ 7.770071] hda-intel 0000:02:00.1: no codecs initialized
what does that mean and how can i fix it?

  • [Radeon] 9550 128Mb problem

Hey there people, I bought an MSI Radeon 9550 graphics card recently and, well... it just doesn't work properly.
It boots up fine and everything, all my programs run fine except for any graphics intensive ones - basically computer games  .
I've tried everything I can think of short of reformatting my HDD (and I doubt that would work) I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, for both Mobo and for Gfx, i've reinstalled windows, put my old graphics card in to see if it works fine, it did (A Hercules Prophet 4500  ), then uninstalled its drivers, took it out and put the Radeon in, installed drivers, still wont work properly.
When I first got it within about 5 - 10 minutes of gameplay I got the error "VPU has reset your graphics accelerator because it has stopped responding to the graphics drivers commands". Now the PC just crashes and it doesn't even bother with the error message. I've taken it back to the shop where I bought it, they ran it on their system and tried everything they could to get the same error, they tried it on 3Dmarks and it ran fine and basically i'm just stumped what to do next. I've checked in system or wherever it is (i've forgotten) and it says that the Graphics Card is running fine with no faults.
    My system is as follows:
    Mobo: ASRock K7V88 VIA Chipset
    RAM: 4 x 256mb Kingston 400mhz
Processor: AMD Sempron running at 1.66ghz
If you need any other system details just ask and i'll tell you
    Cheers, Walty

Could be leftover driver bits from the previous card. Not to mention the possibility of a corrupted registry and/or hardware table.
I would try the card in another PC to check if the problem follows the card. Then consider a complete format and install depending on the results. Perhaps try experimenting on older drivers for the VGA and the chipset as well. For all we know there could be a compatability problem.
Not sure if "Driver Cleaner" would help in this case. http://www.drivercleaner.net

  • G500 amd radeon code 43 problem

I bought a g500 laptop few days ago it came with DOS so i had to install a windows 7 (ultimate) on it but i cant install the graphics driver correctly. There is a drivers CD but i couldnt install every driver from it eg. wifi driver and some others i dont remember which. I looked around the internet and still can figure it out why i cant do it. Little help please.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

i just solved it by myself but in case anyone needs this information about how i did here is it:
i did not installed the newest intel graphics driver and this was the main problem so i deleted it in device manager then also uninstalled the amd radeon driver via uninstaller not with device manager (downloaded the amd driver then i used its uninstall feature) after restart i installed the correct intel graphics driver then the amd radeon driver.

  • Premiere CS4 horrible stutter (ATI Radeon 5750 as problem?)

Hello! I've just come across a very frustrating problem. When I try to edit videos with Premiere CS4, the preview speed is horribly laggy. It doesn't matter what I edit, HD or SD, it is just stuttering so that any work is merely impossible.
The funny thing is, that I have been able to edit even very heavy HD-projects without problems in past with same system. I had 3-4 months pause from video editing, and something has happened in that time. I remember updating ATI drivers in that period so it might be the cause. Or not. Nothing major has changed, I've installed some regular OS updates and thats it. No hardware changes or anything like that.
I have read about compatibility issues with Radeon 5750 and Premiere CS4 in Windows 7 (64bit). So I thought this would be proper area to start looking into. I would like to see if there is something new where to look at before I have to format my whole drive and install everything again. Which is pain because I have no other problems with my system.
I've already tried ATI rollbacks, various driver versions and system restore. Nothing has helped. I also tried same drivers which I knew for sure that were installed and worked last time I succesfully edited something. No use. I've yet not tried installing Premiere again, and I would not happily do it because very buggy licensing system (I have licensed retail version) which can kill the whole CS product family. I rather format the whole OS drive.
Is there any first hand knowledge on this, or any suggestions?

Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708?tstart=0 for more) with Windows (or Mac OS) and software on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is not slowed down by trying to do everything
I find that the three drives I use work very well for me, for editing AVCHD video... some people use a 4th drive, so video INPUT files are on drive three and all OUTPUT files are on drive four... I only bought a mid-tower case instead of a full tower case (my bad... but had to fit in the space available on my office desk!) so I use the three drives that will fit
Depending on your exact hardware (motherboard brand & model AND USB2 enclosure brand & model AND external hard drive brand & model) AND the type of video file, you may... or may NOT... be able to use an external USB2 hard drive for SD (Standard Definition) video editing
Steve Grisetti in the Premiere Elements forum http://forums.adobe.com/thread/856208?tstart=0 and Jim Simon in the Premiere Pro forum http://forums.adobe.com/thread/856433?tstart=0 use USB externals for editing

  • Radeon 9200 Compatibility problem?

    Reference my last post https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=70391
Before RMA'ing the motherboard, I borrowed a generic FX5200 from a freind's computer and put in my neo2 Platinum board and it posted just fine and booted into a dos partition that i have configured for testing.  Does this mean that an ATI Radeon 9200/128MB card will not work in this motherboard, or is there still an issue with the motherboard?  I also tried two PCI video cards for grins and giggles and they would not work either, just got the one long and two short beeps during post.
Can anyone shed any light on this?  Do I need to contact MSI technical support?  ATI technical support? The model number on the 9200 is 102A0621300 088717
    Thanks,

MSI sent me a new BIOS w7025nz101.  To apply it, I had to boot with another video card (nvidea chip set).  Once applied, I rebooted to confirm system still boots.  Installed 9200 and rebooted, system posted and booted into my test partition just fine.  Booted several times succesfully.  As I had installed xpsp2 in another partition with the nvidea card i put it back in and went into the os to do some things and to prepare to update my primary partition with the new motherboard.  Shut down, replaced nvidea card with the 9200 and the system again will not post.  Tried several times, but no go.  Re-applied the BIOS (had to put nvidea card back in to do this) and re-installed the 9200.  Same problem, the system will not post with the 9200 installed.  Why it posted the first time on the new BIOS is a puzzle to me.
To answer wingie, I entered a support request on the miscomputer website via a web form.

  • Radeon 9700 pro problem with Far Cry game

When I playing far cry at High Deatils, after 5 minutes game will crashing, and i got graphic error message
    I have Last update of official ati driver , and i tried OMEGA unofficial driver;
    but problem still running.
    Sys. Spcs.
    Mobo MSI 865 Neo 2 P
    CPU P4 3GHz HT
    RAM 4x256 dual channel
Graphic Card Radeon 9700 pro 128MB/128Bit
    PSU 480 Watt.

Game crashing could be caused by few problems, could be software or hardware. Assuming we're looking into hardware, I suggest you run MEMTEST for your RAM and see if your RAM is defected. Other than that, I can't think of any reason than power supply. But you stated you have a 480 W which should be sufficient. It could be a known problem with ATI on Far Cry? But if this's the case, ATI should be able to deal with it via Driver Update.
If it's software, this is broad. Does Far Cry have any patch?

  • ATI Radeon X1600 GPU problem

I purchased a MacBook Pro with an ATI Radeon X1600 GPU in 2006. Several weeks ago the GPU failed and I was advised that a replacement logic board was needed and this would cost upwards of £500 by various Apple authorised repair centres that I contacted.
The system is not worth £500 in working condition.
It appears that I am not the only one that has found this issue, long after the warranty on the system had expired. In addition a number of people have began on online petition to raise awareness of the situation.
Several months ago a more recent MacBook Pro (circa 2008) with an NVIDIA GPU failed and I was able to have the logic board replaced for free as this was a known fault, even though my system was out of warranty.
I was very annoyed to find that the hardware defect in ATI GPU's has not resulted in the same replacement program. I therefore had to pay an engineer to attempt to fix the system through a component level repair, which failed. My 4 year old system that cost me a lot of money is now dead.
I expected a lot more longevity from this system, and I am sorely disappointed. I am feeling a little ripped off.
    I am the current of owner of a iPhone 4 (2010), MacBook Pro 13" (2010), iMac (2010), iPhone 3G (2008), MacBook Pro 15" (2008) and one dead MacBook Pro 15" (2006).
As you can see I have spent a lot of money on Apple products and accessories, My very first purchase has now died due to ATI GPU failure and I have already replaced a logic board on a 2008 system due to an NVIDIA GPU failure.
I have never hesitated to recommend Apple products before, until now!
I'd like Apple to acknowledge this issue and offer customers with the faulty hardware replacement logic boards, I'd expect Apple to recover this cost from ATI who manufactured the faulty hardware.
I hope that this post serves to raise awareness of the issue and prompts an appropriate response.
    Thanks for reading.
    Dave.

Your instructions basically work because you're deleting the ATI display drivers, so OS X defaults to no hardware acceleration. In the very long "display anomalies" thread to which you linked, this seems to be related as a pretty common solution.
This is not a solution IMO. It's basically telling your computer not to use the built-in video card for much more than a frame buffer. Why is this a bad thing? Well, while it eliminates the anomalies and inevitable freezing, it also makes your computer unusable for anything requiring hardware acceleration (which is a lot of things these days, including 3d games and HD video playback, though the latter can still work albeit more slowly).
You claim that the problem is due to bugs in the ATI driver, but there are two issues with that theory: 1. the problem also happens under Windows via Boot Camp, using several different versions of ATI's Catalyst drivers that support the R500 family (which the X1600 is a member of); and 2. these sorts of anomalies tend to be usually indicative of hardware failure. For example, the nvidia 8800 series famously had similar issues (more and more graphical anomalies followed by eventual lock-ups), which were ultimately caused by hardware failure relating from many heat cycles.
In this case, the thing that seems closest to the truth to me came in a forum post over at the WoW forums (see the last post, by member "Flloyd"):
    Flloyd's post
(Linking to the Google cache because the original seems to have been deleted.)
    Quoting the relevant part here:
"There has been a lot of discussion an Apple forums and other forums about these issues with the Core Duo (not Core 2 Duo) version 1.1 MBPs with the x1600 GPU. The general consensus is that it is definitely a hardware problem and someone mentioned that Apple knows internally that it is an issue with the solder connection between BGA packages and the main board. These machines came out right around when manufacturers were just starting to become ROHS compliant, (the standard that forbids the use of solder containing lead in electronics,) and so it is not surprising to me, (having dealt with some similar issues from the point of view of the manufacturer at work,) that these problems are happening. The lead-free solder is much more brittle than the old kind and solder joints that crack after many thermal cycles are a common problem that everyone trying to use the lead-free solder has had to confront. That being said, Apple still needs to fix this, because anyone who bought one of these would have had no expectation of this kind of failure and many would have bought something else if they knew this was a possibility."
Thus, the little BGA solder balls become worse over time, and when heated enough (i.e. when the GPU load becomes great enough for long enough, which is when people usually report the problems to occur at first), may start to get a bad connection to the logic board, as a result of thermal expansion or lower conductivity or a combination of things.
Now, I'm not 100% sure that this is the answer, but it seems most plausible to me. The other common explanation for this is that the thermal paste is applied unevenly on the GPU, or that the thermal paste gets old. However, while people report getting fewer anomalies after re-applying thermal paste, the problems usually stick around and once again start to get worse over time. My theory here is that while re-applying thermal paste helps with lowering GPU temps and lowering the frequency of the symptoms, it doesn't solve the underlying issue. You can get the same effect (lower GPU temps) by downloading and using the Fan Control preference pane or downloading and using the smcFanControl application to increase fan speed. Like re-applying thermal paste, this would decrease GPU temps (and thus incidence of graphical anomalies and eventual lock-ups), but not eliminate the problem.
It's sad that Apple doesn't (and likely won't) acknowledge this problem as a hardware defect. As far as I know, the issue manifests itself only after several years of use, which is when warranty (even AppleCare) has run out. Those who are lucky enough to have had the Macbook under warranty when symptoms first appeared just had their logic boards replaced for free, and later reported the same problems appearing after a few years with the new logic boards (which predictably contained the same hardware flaw). As I've said before, I'm not 100% confident in this particular explanation, but I am 100% confident that it's a hardware issue.
So nowadays, people generally have the choice of either buying a new laptop or forking over $300-600 for a new or used logic board to extend the life of the Macbook for a few more years, which would inevitably fail again. There is hope though: the aforementioned nvidia cards (the GeForce 8800 series) with the hardware flaw were eventually recalled and replaced for free, but a lot of people have reported resurrecting their dead cards using this unorthodox method:
    http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1421792
    http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1553073
    http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1470144
The same method also worked for people with different failing cards (even built-in laptop GPUs, such as we are talking about here), and not just the GeForce 8800 series. I might try this out in a week or so and see if it works for me and report back. I just don't know if it's worth it -- this is my primary work laptop and I can't afford to have to mess around with getting a new one in the middle of the school year if it dies in the process. Not to mention the fact that while the problem certainly is annoying, since I have to save my work every few minutes in anticipation of the computer locking up, it's certainly not critical.

  • Msi GX60 (AMD Radeon 7970M Graphics PROBLEM)

Ok so I got this laptop as a gift awhile back. Ever since I have never been able to get the dedicated graphics working. The Radeon HD 7970M. I've tried disabling the integrated and the screen kinda glitches up and freezes so I just turned it off and when it was turning off it decides to configure windows (believe this happens everytime i disable it). When I turn it back on I get this amd driver error called "Graphics" and this is what it says, "No AMD graphics driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning. Please install the AMD driver appropriate for your AMD hardware." I have tried doing this many many times, uninstalling and reinstalling different drivers for it and it still does not want to work. Whenever I disable the integrated the dedicate also shows this little yellow triangle in device manager. I heard the specs on the msi GX60 are pretty nice and I'd really love to use it's power, i'd very very VERY much appreciate the help! it would mean everything to me.
Oh and one more thing, in device manager when I right click on it and go to properties it says this under "Device status" Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
I'll be on all day checking this thread, I am definitely capable of giving more information if needed! i'll just need some directions

oh and ever since i got the computer brand new, windows update will not work.
    "Downloading updates..."
"Downloading 62 updates (0 KB total, 0% complete)
and it stays like this. yes I have connection to the internet, everything else can connect.
maybe it has something to do with the graphics card problem i'm having?

  • Studio 1558 ATI Radeon HD5470 hardware problem

I have a Dell Studio 1558 with ATI Mobility Radeon HD5470 graphics card on it. Yesterday, the computer crashed suddenly and started mentioning ATI driver crash, soon after which bluescreen errors followed - mentioning a failure of the atimkdag.sys file.
Then, the display got discoloured, showing random dots, blue vertical lines and discolorations and gibberish characters here and there. I am not being able to load windows as it immediately ends up crashing with always the same bluescreen error.
What bugs me is that, right from the point of start of booting (when the dell logo shows) and after which you can get the boot options etc, all the time, the screen is discolored and gibberish - even inside BIOS, and the basic diagnostics thing that Dell offers.
It is not a LCD problem since I tried attaching a separate monitor using a VGA cable and the exact same problem is reflected on this external monitor also. Also, if I load  a Linux Live Cd, say ubuntu, then it loads and at least shows the desktop, but the discolorations are always there, so it isn't a software problem either - I had also tried restoring to factory settings and the problem is still there.
I think my ATI card is damaged. In that case, is there any option to recover/repair - like disabling the ATI card and working using the onboard intel graphics chipset if any -  or do I have to replace the motherboard, since the ATI cards are as far as I know, soldered and fixed permanently to the motherboard ???
Also, since the warranty period is over, if I need to replace the motherboard, can anyone help me estimate the expense for the replacement?? (I live in India)
    Please help!! Thanks in advance!

Well, correct me if I am wrong, but I think you must have used a "preview" version of the updated ATI driver.
I did the same thing before trying games like NFS The Run, and Battlefield 3, because any game running on the FROSTBITE2 engine forces you to update the driver to a latest version. And then my ATI chip got damaged.
Another fact: I even put a ATI HD 6450 on my desktop and needed to update the driver - did it to a 11.x preview version and it started the crashing-and-recovering scenario - luckily I got a v12.x version which was not a preview one, and the problem stopped. Btw, ATI HD 6450 is a really shitty card. I am never going to purchase another ATI ever again!!
So the PREVIEW version of the ATI drivers are really CRAP!!!! It all starts with driver crashing-and-recovering and then one day, it damages the card.
As for the other thing, I don't think the graphics driver has anything to do with the generation of the Core i CPU because basically, they ought to be kind of independent of each other (the CPU and the GPU that is) although I've heard that an ATI GPU tries to throttle itself using some CPU power, especially the PhysX part...)
So basically, I must say that ATI GPUs are crappy and much less powerful than NVidia ones 'coz they bring their own GPU physics processors with are really necessary for high-graphics games.
Your and mine laptop specs identical as far as you've mentioned. Also, I've seen TWO of my friends facing the same problem (damaged ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470) on a Dell Inspiron 14s. They had to go through motherboard replacement 'coz most of laptop GPUs (all of ATIs and some of NVIDIAs afaik) are soldered permanent on the motherboard. This suggests that the 5470 card itself is really bad.
Dell should know this and do something!!!
BTW, I still haven't gone through a motherboard replacement from Dell, well simply 'coz its really EXPENSIVE (agree with you on the common people terms). INR 16.5K for 1yr Breakfix! WTH!! I could save some more money and buy another laptop of a different brand that gives me same or even more performance than the present one :)

  • ATI radeon driver download problem.

    -HP Media Center m7334n(2005)
So i got a new graphics card(ATI Radeon HD 4350). I got to the AMD website to try to download the driver. So i download the Catalyst install manager, i get to the screen where they want me to choose "Custom" or "Express" I choose "Express", then it just stops and it will eventually say "Not Responding" I tried this with "Custom" too.
I deleted all ATI related products from my computer.. and still a problem. I also ran the CC cleaner tool.

    Hi,
Don't try to RUN the download.  Just do a save to your desktop.
