Mobile applications with Webdynpro - performance contra functions

Hi all,
By starting this thread I am hoping to get some input from those of you that already developed mobile applications using WebDynpro. In my organisation we currently have several mobile transactions running through ITSmobile (which is normal ABAP programs designed with a small screen in mind), but to make development easier and more future-proof we are looking into using WebDynpro instead.
We use Windows CE devices with Internet Explorer 6. This means standard Webdynpro runs fine, and looks fine. The problem here is that the rendering take very long time, up to 5 seconds. My guess is this is caused by the heavy payload of the stylesheets and JavaScript.
So I have also tried by using the PieClient option, which seems to entirely get rid of both CSS and JavaScript, giving excellent performance. Problem here is that some key functionalities are lost, for example the OnEnter action in a input field and the ability to set focus to a field when a view loads. With these, it seems impossible to create a well-working mobile application that could be operated without using a stylus or keyboard.
I would have liked a third option, with some kind of "lean" CSS and JavaScript, but I don't think that possibility exists.
So how did you solve this problem, what approach did you choose? Looking forward to your input.

yes you're right Mobile Always Connected, formely known as Web Dynpro reduces the overall dataload to provide an excellent performance espacially optimized for mobile devices.
SAP NetWeaver Mobile Always Connected is supporting Stylesheets with NetWeaver 7.1 EHP 1.
It does get rid of JavaScript in general, but reduces it to a minimum.
It also adds some mobile specific key capabilities like:
- Device Recognition & Device Specific Rendering
- Integration of Peripherals
- Integration of Function Keys
Depending on the NetWeaver Version you are using, you should try to add the following parameter to your URL:
sap-wd-client=PieClient
sap-wd-client=Pie03Client

Using and iphone

Hey experts. I have developed an application for the PR approval process that will display the details of the requisition and give the options for accepting or rejecting. This all comes from Workflow and I'm pretty proud of the result. Currently in the email we send to the agents there is a URL to the JWD application I built but when someone uses and iPhone or safari the user gets a quick glimpse and then the page is grayed out.

To run the application on Safari or iPhone you have to run the URL with PieClient parameter,

WDA application on Intermec

Dear All,
I had developed WDA application which is running fine in INTERMEC POCKET PC , but while scanning ONENTER EVENT which has been defined on input field is not getting triggered. But application such as BSP, ITSMOBILE AND SAP console are responding
to ONENTER EVENT. I am running application on Pocket PC Internet explorer
We are using Intermec CK3 with WINDOW 6.1.
Can you please suggest how trigger WDA application

MSO source files

Hi, does anybody know how you can get the sources of the Mobile Sales Online webdynpro application??
We got the SCA file and deployed successfully the MSO but we miss some functionality we want to add. That is why we need the sources, or should we just decompile the class files???

Hi Kai,
We are on MSA 5.0 SP05. Generation settings are fine, they are mapping to the respective folders.
Industry template -- ITconsumer Packaged Goods
UI settings
Project -- MSC
Target folder -- D:\Program Files\SAP\Mobile\App.Net\
I tried restarting the machine and generating the whole application. Still it throws an error that few .vb files are missing.
Please help me to resolve this issue. Is there any standard way to rectify these errors?
Any documentation on resolving the errors while generating the application would help.

WebDynpro Mobile - Table not rendered with PIE Client

Hello experts,
I want to create a WebDynpro Mobile application.
In this application I have a table which is bound to three Context Attributes with the type String.
In a standard browser, that table is displayed correctly. But when I am using the PIE Client, I just get a strange table-like "thing" with one column and row, without a header title and a radiobutton in the one table cell.
Does anybody have an idea what is going wrong here?

Any webdydnpro application can be viewed in the black berry emulator (UI elemnts rendering will be different though)
You need to have MDS and blackberry emulator installed on your system.
Run the webdynpro application make note on the URL and type the same URL in the blackberry browser.

Error while running the mobile webdynpro application in PDA

HI All,
I have created an online mobile Web Dynpro application. We have deployed the application in the portal and its working fine.
Now I am trying to run the applicaiton in a PDA via the portal link and it is giving error.
Scripting Alert:
An error occured while starting the iView.Application
/Webdynpro/dispatcher/sap.com/pb/PageBuilder;jsessionid=(hostname_systemID_system Number) Will run with a wrong client window ID! Do not continue Please report this problem to your administrator.
These are my PDA configuration :
PDA with OS = WM 6.0
Crème = CrEme329_ARM_CE42_PPC.exe
DB2E 9.22
Please provide the solution or hints to solve the problem.

But I got the same results :-
1. The button is not working.
2. I cannot select any particular order as the List box is displayed like a box with all the orders visible in the screen.
3. and obviously the date field is not working and I'll try with the drop down.
Can you please suggest what else should I try.

How to hide the select-options fields on radiobutton select in webdynpro

Could you please help how to hide the select-option fields in webdynpro
there are four radio buttons
for every radiobutton there is corresponding the select_option filed is associated to it
user as only provision select one radio button and reset of the select-option fileds should be hidden
which ever the radio button is selected corresponding the select-options fileld should be displayed

To hide select options you should use interface method REMOVE_SELECTION_SCREEN_ITEM of IF_WD_SELECT_OPTIONS.
Sample code :
Write the below code in the Event handler of Radio Button.
DATA lv_r_helper_class TYPE REF TO if_wd_select_options.
lv_r_helper_class = lo_interfacecontroller->init_selection_screen(
lv_r_helper_Class->REMOVE_SELECTION_SCREEN_ITEM(exporting i_id = 'Select_option1_id1').
This will hide first select option of your screen.Similarly pass select_option_id2 to hide it and so on.

I'm developing a simple mobile webdynpro appplication using Dictionary(DC). My Question is, how the Java Dictionary can query/insert/update/delete the underlying default database tables? I'm reluctant to use EJB as it is just for a simple application. Is there any quick and simple way to achieve this?

Dictonary project will helps you in creating tables in the backendand creating the same context structure in your WebDynpro application..

SSO-Logon from mobile device - create logon ticket from WebDynpro for Java

Hi Experts,
I'm developing WebDynpro-JAVA application for some warehouse stuff (runs on a portal system, clients are mobile barcode-scanners with Windows mobile 5.0). JCOs from the portal system to the R/3-backend are confirgured for SSO with Logon-tickets and portal uses LDAP for authentication against a Windows-ADS.
This works so far ... but my problem is the standard Logon-screen, which is nearly unusable on the mobile device (screen size, layout, etc.). Is there any solution to create logon-tickets directly from the WebDynpro application (using something from com.sap.engine.interfaces.security.auth or similar ?) or any chance to have a special logon screen for mobile devices (parameter sap-wd-client=Pie03Client is ignored for the logon screen).

Launch Webdynpro Callable Object in Mobile?

I am able to launch the normal Webdynpro Java application in Blackberry, but want to add it to GP Process using Callable Object, but no idea how can we get the URL for WD - Callable Object?
Is it possible to launch web dynpro Callable Object in Mobile like in blackberry? I am trying to write a program for Approval Process for my project. If any one have done this please let me know what URL we need to use to launch the WD-Java Callable Object in Mobile?

after 4 years in 2012, i bought a tablet pc (aldi lifetab), installed a firefox-browser, the add-on cert-manager, installed a client certificate. After doing this i can accces webdynpro for abap applications without any problems.
