Raid S-ata,ide,raid 0,1,0+1 and io in general

I've got a bunch of questions I wanna ask so i suppose the apt thing to do on a forum like this would be to put them in priority lol.
1. I remember somebody saying that 2 raid arrays, one being raid 0 and the other being identical and used to mirror the first is impossible. Can someone tell me why and if not how to set it up?
     - (I Have had Delayed Write Failure problems under XP(ectin' OSmethin' better), but I'm fairly sure I caused this by changing and fixing the page file size and forcing the machine not to page system files.)
2. There seems to be a bit of a divide as to the value of the promise controller, I would like some hard facts and first hand experiences.
3. Can both the promise and via controllers be used for seperate raid arrays and if so could one be S-ATA and the other be IDE or do they have to be homogenous?
4. If I Choose to go with a different version of raid, say 1, or 0+1 what sort of performance difference is there from raid 0 and for that matter from each other?
5. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the promise controller can handle four disks in an array - could this be true?
6. Somebody mentioned that the VIA raid solution was only a software solution, is this true and if so how much CPU overhead could I Expect.
7. Any other disk related performance or redundacy advice would regarding these controllers etc. would be appreciated.
8. Sorry about the length of this post people.

well i am no expert but i'll attemp to answer your q's
1. a windows delayed write error can be from cacheing your hard drives go to device
manager, (rt click my computer) hardware, device manager,
disk drives ,properties, policies, un check optimise for performance.
2. the promise can run a sata array and a ide array, or can combine them into one big array, with the reduced performance of the ide drives.
3. stripped or raid 0 is the fastest, especialy if your a gamer and set it up with smaller clusters, say 32k. raid 1 is mirrored, or a duplicate copy of your hard drive and is only good if your drive fails, it does nothing for corupt windows, or installs, or viruses, it is a copy, (i use norton ghost to make drive images at various stages for backups, to combat virus, and corupt installs that destroy windows.
4.you could backup a stripped array ,but when you strip ann array say two 120 gig hard drives it creates one big 240. that is why i partioned  mine into two 120s, so i could ghost them. (which i feel is better then a mirror.
5. speed, when i had my system disk on ide1 it tranfered at 36 mb/sec when i put them on ide3 raid 0 128k cluster(better for large files, like photoshop) it increased to 65 mb/sec...nearly double.
6. i oc and ide oc's better then sata, so i stuck with ide and a fsb of 222.
hope that helps, and if anyone would like to add plz do

  • K7N2-ILSR IDE/RAID Slot 3

Hi Guys, I have built and repaired a number of PC's over the years but I've never had any experience of RAID.  I've just treat myself to a new system based around the K7N2-ILSR board and would like to know if the RAID channel of IDE port 3 Can be used and accessed just the same as any other IDE channel.  I was thinking of future expansion should my existing drives approach capacity could I simply use this channel to add another drive.
I would appreciate any advise on this subject.
    Thanks

you can connect 1 harddrive to ide3.
and you must create a raid0 array even if its alone.
with a hacked bios its possible to use 2 drives.
sofar only talked to one guy and he used 2 sata and 2 pata in 2 raid0 arrays and it worked good for him

  • IDE Raid not recognised by Solaris 10 6/06

    Hi,
I am new to Solaris and was trying to install Solaris 10 on my old machine which has got Intel Server Board SE7500CW2 with built in Raid (ATA-100) controller. The raid controller is Promise Technology PDC20267 ASIC.
What settings are needed to be done to allow the Solaris to recognise it?
    Thanks

solaris supports raid cards based on the LSI1030 and LSI1064 controller.
Also the LSI MegaRAID 320-2x SCSI RAID Controller.
Other raid cards would only be supported if the vendor provided their own raid drivers.
But in general your better off forgetting about hardware raid and using sds software raid.
Unless you go for a quite an expensive card, software raid tends to end up being faster.
But a bit of googling turned up this
    According to Sun Big Admin
    (http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/data/sol/components/details/503.html)
, the Mylex Accelaraid 150 is reported to work with Solaris 9 04/04 to Solaris 10 03/05 (read Solaris 9 and 10 X86). The firmware and bios on the card needs to be: BIOS Version 4.10-50; Firmware 4.08-37.
Lots of other cards are listed in the HCL but you have to wade through it to work out which ones are IDE raid cards

I Must have linux redhat 7.3 support for onboard
PROMISE IDE RAID  -- if it was clearly supported I
could build a serious web farm or render farm with
this nicely priced powerhouse of a motherboard.
I emailed MSICOMPUTER.com to see if they support it since web site has no
specific mention of Linux Redhat 7.3 support.
Very low cost high performing MBoard -- I am hoping to build a web farm using the
mirroring capability of the onboard chip
Please advise if you know of anyone with success or hints.
I am assembling it and about to try -- no doc on Promise.com or redhat.com or msicomputer.com
    or anywhere.
promise.com site says mboard maker must support onboard promise chips.  promise.com web site
says promise.com will not support mboard makers.

    I.  I received rhup-ftb22.zip from the people at promise.com who promised that they can't support

FastTrak Series Linux Driver Version 1.02.0.22
Installation Note for RedHat Linux [06/27/2002]
    [INTRODUCTION]
    1.1 Foreword
This driver diskette should be used with all Promise FastTrak Series
adapter and onboard chipsets running under RedHat Linux operating
           systems.
Do NOT use this diskette for other versions of Linux for FastTrak
           support.
NOTE:  For FastTrak users with Promise chips labelled PDC20265R or PDC20270
           (FastTrak100 Lite motherboard-embedded solutions or FastTrak100TX2)
running with Linux kernel versions 2.4.x, be aware of additional
           instructions to be performed.
See Item 1.3 below for description of the issue which use of the
           driver and instructions solves.

1.3 Linux kernel 2.4.x ATA issue on FastTrak Series PDC20265R/PDC20270
Linux Kernels 2.4.x misidentifies PDC20265R/PDC20270 (FastTrak 100 Lite
        motherboard-embedded solution/FastTrak100TX2) cards and/or chips as simple
IDE controllers. This results in the built-in Linux IDE driver trying to
handle the controller and can prevent the proper FastTrak ATA RAID driver
to be loaded. Follow the installation instructions AND the parameter
commands referred to in the Notes section.
        This called "IDE issue."
    [INSTALLATION]
Extract the contents of the ZIP file on to a formatted floppy disk.
(ZIP file can be extracted by `WinZIP' in windows or `unzip' in linux)
Label the disk "FastTrak Driver Disk".

III. For my RAID farm, render farm, I have multiple
20 GB IBM IDE/100 hard drives, so I connected one
of them to a regular (non-RAID) IDE port, booted from CDROM and sucessfully installed Redhat 7.3 selecting very simple defaults.  Tried multiple times, clean shutdown, clean reboot, all OK, no surprises.  Great.
Then after clean shutdown, I removed ths drive from
the IDE connector and moved it to the first RAID IDE
conenctor.  Then I added an identical blank drive to the
second RAID IDE connector.  The boot process guided
me to select between "Performance" mode (striping)
versus "Security" mode (mirroring).  I selected mirroring
purely so that I do not have to panic when a drive fails, I can take my time in replacing the falty drive and no
one will ever have noticed a problem.
Upon reboot, it started to clear boot but locked up
within a few seconds after starting to spew boot messages.
I would have expected that Linux would have recognized the RAID array as some standard
    supported SCSI drive.
I guessed the promise engineers didn't think of
adding a BIOS option to force the chip to emulate
some simple cheap reliable SCSI drive (maybe the next
motherboard support chip), so I imagined that I would
have to make sure PDC20276  (MBFastTrak133 Lite)
    support is added.
Then I returned the drive to the IDE (non-RAID) port,
    rebooted successfully, unzipped rhup-ftb22.zip into
a directory and ran the following command:
    # sh install
Looking at install, it seems to take a peak in
    the following directory:
    /lib/modules
and sees the name "2.4.18" in mine just to figure
out where to copy "FastTrak.o" (/lib/modules/.../kernel/drivers/scsi in my case).
Then it determines that /etc/lilo.conf is not there
and confirms that /boot/grub/grub.conf exists and
append the following text to the "kernel" line:
    ide0=0x1f0,0x3f6,14 ide1=0x170,0x376,15 ide2=0 ide3=0 ide4=0 ide5=0 ide6=0 ide7=0 ide8=0 ide9=0
    then inserts the following modules:
    FastTrak
    scsi_mod
    sd_mod
QUESTION:  Should I now expect to boot OK by removing the drive from the IDE (non-RAID), moving to
first RAID port, adding second blank identical IDE drive
    to second RAID port?
BEFORE DOING THAT: Before trying, for fun, I added two blanks to the RAID ports and booted from the IDE
(non-RAID), yes three IDE drives altogether.
Here is what I now see in the dmesg:
    ---- snip ----
    SCSI subsystem driver Revision: 1.00

  • HELP! INTEL ICH5R Controller/S-ATA - "No RAID"

Hi to all who gave me advice for setting up two S-ATA drives on the Intel ICH5R controller with "NO" RAID.  I really need some help.
Well, I got my two "NEW" S-ATA drives this afternoon and after following the advice given by several users in this thread, I'm having ptoblems trying to install Windows XP and I'm getting messages like "missing operating system", "Invalid system disk, (when XP CD is in CD drive) replace the disk and press any key", so I need some help please.
Ok, I setup the BIOS settings in Integrated Perpherals/On-Chip IDE Configuration to:
    Mode: NATIVE
    ATA Configuration: S-ATA Only
    Keep S-ATA Enabled: YES
    Keep P-ATA Enabled: YES
    P-ATA Channel Selection: BOTH
    Configure S-ATA as RAID: NO
BTW, given that I will have two Seagate S-ATA drives on SER1 & SER2 and one P-ATA drive (LG CDRW) on IDE1 as Master and the other P-ATA drive (LG DVD) on IDE2 as Master, I was just wondering if the "other options" in "On-Chip IDE Configuration" may be causing my problems and need to be altered and if so, what to?
I.e. "Combined Mode Option" and S-ATA Ports Definition"
I then switched off the computer and connected my two Seagate S-ATA drives
    (ST380013AS 7200.7 80GB on SER1 & ST3120026AS 7200.7 120GB on SER2).
I turned on computer and drives were shown on POST screen as "Third IDE Master (80GB) and 4th IDE Master (120GB). I then entered BIOS to check if they were shown and they were and I selected the "ST380013AS 7200.7 80GB drive" as my 3rd boot device with the CD as my first boot device and the floppy as my second.
BOTH drives were already set to "AUTO", but the label on the physical drives states that you should choose "AUTO" and enable "LARGE BLOCK ADDRESSING (LBA), but I could not see an option for this. I did not get any software with the disk but the drive label states that you chould use "Disc Wizard" but I did not have this so I used an updated Boot Floppy that works with drives up to 137GB. I FDISK'd the 80GB drive and formatted it to FAT32 (although I would not normally do this because XP setup always finds my new partitioned ATA133 drives and starts setup and then formats it).
Note: During format, the drive was shown as "Formatting 10,780.56M" and for an 80GB drive, this did not seem right but after formatting, it showed as 76,297,91MB total disk space. FDISK showed the drive as 76,317MBytes.
Also in the BIOS, the 80GB drive is shown with "CYLINDERS:38309", "HEADS:16", SECTORS:255", MAXIMUM CAPACITY:80GB and "WRITE PRECOMPENSATION:(nothing was shown for this - what is this and should there be a reading for it)?
I then restarted the computer with the XP CD in the Master CD drive and the cd was found and showed "Press any key to continue......" but this was quickly followed by "Invalid System Disk - Replace the disk and press any key".
I tried this many times but always get the same message. Can anyone who has setup S-ATA drives on ICH5R with "no RAID" and then installed a fresh copy of XP, please help, or anyone who can help with this, I would be very grateful.
    Regards

    Hi
Ok, I have some more information regarding the Intel ICH5R Controller and S-ATA drives.
I tried your suggestions of " Both SATA+PATA in "On-Chip IDE Config"...." and also a few others, but it made no difference and I still got "invalid disk message".  Some changes like "P-ATA only" made my CDRW/DVD drives not show up during POST or in the BIOS or My Computer.
I then used the original advice I was given:
    Mode: NATIVE
    ATA Configuration: S-ATA Only
    Keep S-ATA Enabled: YES
    Keep P-ATA Enabled: YES
    P-ATA Channel Selection: BOTH
    Configure S-ATA as RAID: NO
but also changed "Combined Mode Option" to "S-ATA 1st Channel and the "S-ATA Ports Definition" to P0-1st. /P1-2nd.  I then inserted the XP CD and restarted the computer and this time XP installation went ahead without any 'invalid disk' messages and XP was installed without problems but I have noticed a few weird things which I would like some help with please, especially Q1:
Q1:  During POST, both my S-ATA drives which are on SER1 & SER2, were shown as the Third and Fourth IDE Masters and as UDMA 5.  Surely this can't be correct?
I know ATA133 is UDMA 6 and the S-ATA drives are supposed to run at 150Mb/sec but I don't know if there is a standard for that speed at the moment but it should not be shown as UDMA 5 on POST and also in Device Manager?  At the very least it should be UDMA 6?
Q2:  In Device Manager/IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, it shows:
    Primary IDE Channel
Device 0 Current Transfer Mode: Ultra DMA 5  (S-ATA 80GB Drive)
Device 1 Current Transfer Mode: Not applicale
    Primary IDE Channel
Device 0 Current Transfer Mode: Not applicable
Device 1 Current Transfer Mode: Not applicable
    Secondary IDE Channel
Device 0 Current Transfer Mode: Ultra DMA 5 (S-ATA 120GB Drive)
Device 1 Current Transfer Mode: Not applicable
    Secondary IDE Channel
Device 0 Current Transfer Mode: Ultra DMA 2 (LG CDRW Drive)
Device 1 Current Transfer Mode: Ultra DMA 2 (LG DVD Drive)
??Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller?
??Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller?
?? After installing the Intel .INF Update, these entries changed to "Intel 82801EB Ultra ATA Storage Controllers".  With my two previous ATA133 drives installed in the same computer, there was only one "Intel 82801EB Ultra ATA Storage Controllers" in Device Manager, so with the S-ATA drives installed, why are there now two entries in Device Manager?
Q3:  In "My Computer", the total capacity of my Seagate S-ATA 80GB drive is shown as 74.5GB (80,015,491,072 Bytes).  Iknow that the CMOS value is considerably less that the purchased disk size, but where has the other 4.5GB gone?
Q4:  What is the purpose of the second "Primary IDE Channel" entry in Device Manager?

  • K8N NEO2 PLATINUM ATA-133 Raid ?

    Hello,
My question is, is it possible to setup an Ata-133 raid on the K8N NEO2 PLATINUM (as the main boot drive). Currently I have 2 ata-133 drives and I want to upgrade to this board. I looked at the PDF manual and read the forums, but people usally talk about thier Sata drives.
If it is possible to have only a Ata-133 raid setup. How/what is the best way to set it up since there is only a primary and secondary ATA connection on the motherboard.  Setup a master / slave on the primary 1 slot ? or put them on thier own channel ?  Note, I read somewhere that optical drives ( cdroms,...) may have a problem if they share the channel with a harddrive that is raided. So thats my dilema.
      Thanks in advanced,
                Jim

    jim,
did you ever get the RAID setup to work with the IDE drives?
i was trying to connect 2 ata100 drives on the IDE2 or IDE3 ports and the bios will not seem to detect them at all,
but the RAID controller DOES detect them.
however, it will try to boot from the master drive but restarts at the windows XP splash screen, every time.

Right. If we connect two IDE HDDs on one IDE1 or IDE 2 (as Master & Slave), and plan to set up RAID.Take IDE1 for example, as long as we set up Integrated Peripherals-->Onboard Device-->RAID Config-->IDE Primary Master&Secondary RAID-->Enabled, Save&exit setup; enter RAID bios to set RAID mode, all things would be ok. But if we want to install OS in this RAID, we must press F6 install RAID driver at the beginning of OS installation. If we only use them as normal storage, OS is in other HDD, we should install RAID driver in OS.
Besides, the two HDDs could not appear in Standard CMOS Features any more, which appear in RAID BIOS.

  • K7N2-ILSR IDE Raid

    Dear Tech Wizards,
    Stupid little question...
Any performance issues with hooking up two IDE drives (ATA 133) onto the IDE 3 Raid connection on the K7N2-ILSR MB?
Just curious since my ASUS board (P4PE) using individual IDE connectors for the IDE setup (you know, one drive, one connector).
This is my foray into MSI territory.  I have always used ASUS boards in the past.  I like the layout of this board since it has the new NForce chip set and IDE Raid.  When I'm done, I'll have 2 GByte DDR 2700 RAM (matched 1 GByte chips), AMD XP 3000+ Barton, and two 120 MByte Maxtors (240 GByte) plus one other 120 GByte Maxtor on another IDE line for the OS.  Raids are tempermental and it is best not to have all your eggs in one basket.  I have found that AMD chips just kick ass for numerical computations.  They are about 30% faster than Intel's.  AMD's integer calculation capabilities are much, much better.
    Thanks a bunch,
    George

So, it looks like it is back to the trenches to find a decent MB that has IDE RAID and the NForce Ultra 400 chipset.
What about a mainboard without RAID. I don't think you get a mainboard with full-onboard-raid ever. That's the marketing of promise, highpoint et al. If I knew it former, I would have bought the delta K7N2-ILS. Onboard VGA and onboard RAID are not the best choice !!

  • PCI ATA 66 RAID size limit?

I was wondering what the max hard drive size is for a PCI ATA 66. And can you make a larger volume via RAID 0 that exceeds that limit? For example, can you combine two 120GB physical disks into a single RAID volume on the ATA66 interface, or will the combined RAID volume size also be limited to <137GB?
On my system I use a single partition 120GB drive, and backup nightly with DejáVu to another 120GB drive, both are bootable 10.4 sytems. I am about 80% capacity now, and will be planning on adding some space in the future, so I was thinking about getting an external 250GB FW bootable drive for backup, and RAIDing the two 120GB drives into a single 240GB volume, if possible on a single cable on a PCI ATA 66 card.

The article cited below states that the ATA drive size limit is 200 GB for your Mac.
86178- Macintosh: Using 128 GB or Larger ATA Hard Drives
The last reference it cites talks about Volume sizes, and that is the important distinction for RAID. With most RAID schemes, you are creating a larger (or mirrored) Volume out of two smaller Drives (or portions of Drives).
I suggest you reconsider putting both drives on the same cable. Because of the way ATA/IDE works, there is NO Overlap in commands on a single cable. Each drive must initiate the seek, wait milliseconds for it to complete, and transfer the data in its entirety before any other transaction can begin on that cable. So one drive waits for the other to complete before it even starts its seek.
Users at MacGurus who are posting their whiz-bang RAID performance numbers in their forum are all using SCSI (which supports overlapped commands and overlapped seeks) or have the two drives on two cables. This allows one seek to start, the other seek to start on the other drive, the wait for milliseconds to overlap each other, and then transfer1 followed by transfer2, or possibly even some overlap in the transfers.

  • K7N2G-ILSR and Raid with ATA HDD

    Hi,
I was wondering if its possible to use two WD 80 GB ATA hdd's in raid on this mobo. I have one WD800JB and I wanna buy another one to use in Raid 0. Note..these are no SATA hdd's...
Do you guys have some info on installing these hdd's in raid...how's it done?
I hope you can help me.
    grtz.

only if you also buy sata adaptors really as well
ide 3 supports a single drive only

  • [915 Series] How do I enable the IDE raid Slots (the yellow ones)

On the Bios there is an option to enable the onboard raid slots, but whem I
enable it, noting happens, and in the next restart, this item doen't show in
    the bios menu.
I read on the forum that this problem appened to other owners of this
motherboard, but I couldn't find any solution.
I've already installed the Via IDE Raid Drivers in "»Windows install »F6."
When I tried to install the upgrade of this drivers form the Drives&
utilities CD, a message apeard saying that it could't find the hardware, so I
installed them anyway from a floppy disk in "»Windows install »F6."
I have connected to the blue IDE slot one IDE drive and one DVD drive, and
in the second slot(yellow), another IDE drive.I've tried to exange the drive
positions but the drives on the raid slots where never recognized.
I know from the forums that others have solved this problem, so I think this
    is not a mainboard mailfunction.
Please someone help me in this issue.
    Thank you.

    Tanks everyone
I also tried that procedure but I thik i have a problem in Bios or in the motherboard.
When I enable The raid controler in Bios this Item just disapears form the options, next time I restart.
    Strange, no?
No mater I took the computer to the shop where I bought the Moterboard and monday, I hope I have good News.
At that time I'll give you notice of what's happening.

  • Checking IDE Raid

    Hi all,
I have a 6330 V3 running raid. Initailly I attempted to install  Win2k OS directly on the Raid bus but I kept getting a file copy error while the promise drivers (v3.7) where read from the floppy. The floppy was good but installing this way would not work for me so I took option 2 install the OS and promise drivers on Hdisc 1 and formating Hdisk2 using my normal IDE bus and after the OS + promise drivers where configured swapover the drives to the raid IDE. Everything went well I chained my 2 quantum as fireball as master and slave on 1 of the promise raid buses and an array was automatically created on rebooting a stripe array (for performace) was created and both discs detected.
My query is this in explorer I can still see both raid drives as indivdual drives (c: + d:) is this correct. I can see the data on d: and its empty am I using this correctly or are my disc working indepentently of another. I assumed once an array (for performace) was created I would only be able to see one of the disks. How does a perfomance ide raid work if it does not appear to put any data onto the second drive?
    Any help gratefully recieved.
    Regards

Also I have a 80 Gb WD se on my secondary main IDE sharing with my CD writer will this slow down my WD HD, or would I be better off putting it on the primary IDE or does it make no difference.

The link relates to a dif mobo and a dif promise chipset although the instructions where much clearer than the ones in the promise manual which I find real crap. I am still unsure if my raid is working at all (in raid mode). On my board I just boot up and automaticly the promise chipset creates the array and detects both discs. I have my disc in the same IDE master and slave so does this mean they are not working properly ?

  • PCI ATA 133 RAID Card VS. PCI ATA 133 Controller Card

    Hello,
I just bought a 300gb HD to put into my QS. I know I need to add another ATA card, but I noticed in stores there is a PCI ATA 133 RAID and a PCI ATA 133 Controller card.
What is the difference? The ATA 133 Raid card I saw is considerably cheaper. Can I use it to run my 300Gb drive as my startup drive (iDVD issues!)?
    Thanks for your help.

Additional question: I have seen that there are a number of issues with SATA II drives in the early G5. Can you recommend a drive in the 500 GB range that would work well in the Dual 1.8 GHz? A SATA II would be a good option for the future... Thanks!

  • K7N2 how setup IDE RAID ?

Yup, again someone asking about the 3rd IDE cnnector of the K7N2 Delta-iLSR.
I want to create an array for my 2 WD 80GB HD's, I have one connected to the IDE 1 and one to IDE 3. I've read here that I have to press ctrl + f at boot to create an array but when I try to build an array it says that there's only 1 drive available for the array ? How can you build a stripe array for performance when you can only connect 1 drive ? My previous RAID experience was with my KT3 Ultra-ARU mainboard and there I was able to connect 2 drives and build an array of 80g (2 hd's of 40). Now I want to build an array of 160 (2 hd's of 80) but I don't understand why you need a hacked BIOS do do so ? Why place a 3rd "RAID"ide connector on the board if you can't use it ? I assume that when I build the array with only one drive there's not going to be a performance increase...
So my question: how can I create a stripe array with me 2 WD 80gb hd's without the use of any hacked BIOS ?
    thx !

Yeah, I was afraid you were going to say that... But why did MSI put it there in the first place ? Seems a bit odd, doesn't it ? Anyway I have flashed the hacked BIOS and have the 2 drives connected on the 3rd IDE and everything runs great !
    thx once again.

  • Second IDE Raid controller

If the a problems when running two raid controllers in one system?
And how can i get into the bios of second raid card.
P.S.  card is installed in Windows XP fine.  i can see two hard drives connected to it.  Right after raid bios on onboard raid it looks windows.
    Please help

    Thanks for your help.
It sounds like you are booting from the promise RAID controller.  If so, you are well familiar with the way in which it dominates the bootup process for the first 30 seconds or so.........(dots look familiar?...)
I wonder if the second RAID card is also initiating its bios sequence at the same time underneath the Promise boot screen (underneath, so to speak) so that when the Promise routine is finished, so is the CMD routine, and you proceed from that point with both RAID controllers initialized (but can only see one of them at a time from the bios screen.)
Do you you have "boot from other device" enabled in the bios?  If so you might try disabling that to see if it will sequence the RAID controllers initialization so that the CMD bios appears after the Promise bios is done (I assume you have the onboard Promise array selected as the boot device.)
A bit more trouble would be to reboot to main bios,  disable the onboard RAID controller in the bios, save and reboot.  At this point the Promise bios will not display and you should see a CMD bios display which you could manipulate--then reenable the Promise controller to boot, etc.  If you disable the Promise controller and you still don't see a bios for the CMD RAID device you need to look elsewhere.  Also, it might be that the CMD bios access requires a certain key sequence pressed during post to display?....Just some random thoughts...

  • Neo 2 Platinum ide raid driver

    Hello everyone
I have a K8N Neo 2 Platinum mainboard and I want to set up 2 times 160 gig ide in raid 0 with the onboard ide raid controller.
Xp will be installed on it. I know normally you need to have an raid driver to install the raid controller you want to use. I looked on the cd and the driver site of msi but the only driver I found was the SATA raid driver. Does this mean that the Windows XP setup doens't need an ide RAID driver at all or accept it with the usual driver when you hit f6 ?

    • NV RAID (Software)
    • Supports up to 4 SATA & 2 ATA133 Hard drives
    - RAID O or 1, 0+1, JBOD is supported
    - RAID function work w/ATA133 + SATA H/D or 2 SATA H/D
So - Yes, it should work just load the drivers with F6 after you select the disks to RAID using F10 at boot.
