Random Colour

Does anyone know how to pick a random color from a list of colors, say
{"red", "green", "yellow", "blue"} ?

String[] myColors = {"red", "green", "yellow", "blue"};
System.out.print("The random color is");
for (int i=0; i<10; i++) {
  try { Thread.sleep(500); } catch (Exception exc) {}
  System.out.print(".");
java.util.Random r = new java.util.Random();
System.out.println(myColors[r.nextInt(myColors.length)]);

  • There are randomly coloured pixels appearing on my MacBook Pro LED when I attempt to open or preview a media file.  Is this the graphics card?

    I recently had to switch out the hard drive on my Early 2011 13" MacBook Pro.  When I got the computer back from the Apple Store I began loading my old content onto the machine.  When previewing and opening files, they would appear with randomly coloured splotches of pixels on them.    This continues to happen when browsing folders on my machine.
    The files do not show up with splotches on other computers, and are not in the same places each time I open the file, which leads me to believe they are problems with my machine and not the files themselves.
    I hypothesise this is the graphics card, but I don't know enough about the hardware to know for sure.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    For some uknown reason, some ISP provided wireless modems (which are often low cost / old technology boxes geared for Win XX clients) don't like iMacs. And, they don't like lots of clients connected to them either. If wondering, my ISP provided me a 2-Wire modem (which is both wired and wireless) and it worked great with 1 wireless and 1 "wired" client. Then, my son added his PS3. Then, my wife added her new iMac. Next thing I know, we're getting unexpectd time-outs and line drops. Somedays it runs great and other days, it drops 5 times within the same hour. After lots of research, it appears the 2-Wire box is NOT iMac friendly. And, it doesn't like many clients either. It's simply "too old or too tired" for our many new technology clients. Today, I'm "on the hunt" for a NEW Technology ISP Modem / wireless box repacement. It's time I upgraded my old technology wire/wireless box anyway.
    Perhaps your existing ISP Modem/Wireless box isn't Mac friendly either? Perhaps you need to upgrade its firmware, change its internal setting or simply replace it - with a "Mac certified" modem box? Something I learned the hard way...
    Good luck....

  • Displaying random colour in director

    Hi, I hope someone can help me with this. Basically I’m
    creating a game which consists of empty squares on the screen that
    the user fills in with colours, this would be done by the user
    pressing different keys, for example if ‘A’ was pressed
    the program would identify the key that was pressed and also
    identify the colour that is has been allocated ‘RED’
    for instance, then it would randomly select an empty square and
    fill it with the colour red.
    The following code randomly selects a square from a global
    list and eliminates it from the list once it has been selected, so
    that the program does not select the same square again, as well as
    check if any squares are empty.
    However I have a problem in terms of getting the program to
    fill the selected square with a colour, I have tried everything but
    seem to get nowhere
    . Hope someone can help me with this.
    Thanks in advance
    on keydown
    global gList
    vMax = gList.count
    if not vMax then
    exit
    end if
    vIndex = random(vMax)
    vSquare = gList[vIndex>
    gList.deleteAt(vIndex)
    if the keypressed="A" then vColour = rgb(255,0,0)and
    vColour=vSquare
    else
    if the keypressed="B" then vColour = rgb(255,128,0)and
    vColour=vSquare
    end if
    end if
    end keyDown

    Thanks for the tip
    I really appreciate it, I had to tweak my code a bit
    but it works now
    heehee. However I had another question, don't know if
    you can help with this again or anyone else at all, is it possible
    for me to define a range from which the colour can be chosen, for
    example rgb (255,255.255) to rgb(200,200,200)??....as I’m not
    sure if Director recognises the colours in-between the two sets I
    have specified i.e: rgb(225,225,225)?

  • Change the colour of the outer line of a circle

    Hello everyone,
    I drew up a circle with no fill inside, to show where the location of my highway storm culvert will be.
    I changed the thickness of the outer line of my circle shape by creating a stroke effect at layer → blending options → stroke; then I changed the thickness of the line by right clicking in stroke at the layers panel and then choosing "scale effect."
    But the problem I have is that the outer line is gray, and I want it to be black.
    The outer line was originally red though so I changed my image → mode to grayscale, because I couldn't find a way to change the colour while keeping my image in RGB colour.  So I've managed to make the outer line gray by changing the image mode but I still can't change the colour of the outer line to black.
    I'm sure there must be other ways of changing the outer line colour without having to change the image mode, but I'm clueless.
    Here is my drawing:
    The text next to the circle says «Obra de desagüe». That's spanish for "drainage construction site."
    You see, I can't change the colour because I have no clue at where the "change colour option" is. I tried going to layer → layer properties, but in there there's only 7 colours to choose from. I chose a random colour, just to see what happens and what truly changed colour was the layer, within the layers panel; not the shape contained within the layer.
    So I'm lost here, any help please?
    Unfortunately I'm still not an expert in Photoshop just yet.
    Thank you for reading my post.

    Set shape layer opacity 100% Fill 0% to make fill transparent or add an empty layer make a circular selection stroke it black.

  • Script to apply a random CMYK swatches from a group of swatches to selected objects.

    I would like to write some scripts for randomising the allocation of swatches to adjacent object.
    Example:
    Imagine a map of Europe and all her nation states/territories. I have a User Defined Swatch Library. I can open the AI document it was made from as I understand from this thread that having the swatches as objects on the page makes them easier to be referenced in a script.
    I want to iterate through the selected objects and randomly assign one of the colours in the swatch document as a fill to each object. It would be great if hidden swatches (they are all small rectangular 'colour chip' filled paths) on page were not included in the reference swatches randomly choosen from.
    Iterating the selected objects I can do, but not sure what references I need to use to create an array of swatches to randomly choose from.
    I see I can make an array of swatches using the general swatch group from Adobe's CreateSwatchGroup scripts:
    JS
    var docRef = app.documents.add(DocumentColorSpace.CMYK)
    // Create a new SwatchGroup
    var swatchGroup = docRef.swatchGroups.add();
    swatchGroup.name = "CreateSwatchGroup";
    // Get list of swatches in general swatch group
    var genSwatchGroup = docRef.swatchGroups[0];
    // Collect 5 random swatches from general swatch group and move to new group
    var i = 0;
    while (i < 5) {
              var swatches = genSwatchGroup.getAllSwatches();
              swatchCount = swatches.length;
              var swatchIndex = Math.round(Math.random() * (swatchCount - 1)); // 0-based index

              if (swatches[swatchIndex].color.typename != "PatternColor" && swatches[swatchIndex].color.typename != "GradientColor") {
                        swatchGroup.addSwatch(swatches[swatchIndex]);
                        i++;
    // Updates swatch list with swatches moved to new swatch group
    swatches = swatchGroup.getAllSwatches();
    // [… etc etc]

    activate
              set docRef to make new document with properties {color space:CMYK}

              set swatchGroupRef to make new swatchgroup in current document with properties {name:"CreateSwatchGroup"}
    -- Get list of swatches in general swatch group
              set genSwatchGroup to swatchgroup 1 of docRef
    -- Collect 5 random swatches from the general swatch group and move to new group
              set i to 0
              repeat until i is 5
                        set swatchesRef to get all swatches genSwatchGroup
                        set swatchCount to count every item in swatchesRef
                        set swatchIndex to random number from 1 to swatchCount
                        set currentSwatch to item swatchIndex of swatchesRef

  • Problem with psychedelic colours after encoding in iDVD6

    I'm working on a long project in iDVD6 that just fits on a dual-layer disc. Everything is ok except for one particular movie. This clip starts out in mostly a greyscale colour scheme then dissolves to full colour after a few minutes. In the project, this plays fine.
    I encode to a disc image and no errors are reported. On a dual g5, this takes about 10 hours to encode.
    When I mount the image and check it, this colour problem arises. After the grey sequence, the colour sequence looks like random colour garbage. Very psychedelic but not the look I need for this project.
    I tried deleting the encoded assets, re-exporting the movie file in question a couple times, and also sneaking some colour information into the greyscale opening sequence via a single line of colour pixels across the top of the 640x480 frame.
    I will try exporting the movie from my editor with another codec. Any other suggestions for fixing my LSD video problem?
    Thanks,
    Jaeson

    Hi
    Was just a shoot in the dark. I try to have > 25Gb free. So You are well up to it.
    No clever ideas - sorry.
    Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:
    Many possible origins. Most common:
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Delete iMovie pref file - or rather start a new user/account - log into this and re-try
    • Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK
    • Program miss-match: iMovie 6.0.3 or 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4 - is OK
    iMovie pref file resides: Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
    and is named: com.apple.iMovie.plist
    While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iMovie.

  • Colours of imported postscript not displayed properly in illustrator

    Hi,
    I produced a colour map and colour gradient legend as a postscript file (.ps) using generic mapping tools software running under linux. When I import this file into illustrator (in windows 8) the colour map is fine, but the colour gradient does not display properly. It appears as a bunch of white spaces and vertical colour bands of random colour. When I then try to export the file as a .pdf the colour gradient appears as solid blue. I've also tried producing a .pdf instead of .ps but it makes no difference.
    It's worth noting that I have done this in the past with no problems. This particular problem first occurred a few months ago and is now persistent.
    Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

    There are no import options to change in Illustrator to make it work. Usually I argue against using Illustrator as a general purpose PDF editor, but since it seems to be your only option here it is better than nothing (i.e., what you got from Illy itself).
    It's worth noting that I have done this in the past with no problems. This particular problem first occurred a few months ago and is now persistent.
    The problem is that the color bar is a 4-bit color image. Did that recently change with an update of your mapping software? Open one of your Illy files that were okay and check the color bar -- is it vector or bitmap? If it's a bitmap, can you "edit" it with Photoshop? (It's not a good day to be an Adobe spokesperson: much to my surprise, Top Market best Seller Photoshop cannot edit 4-bit color images!)
    Let's talk Versions as well. I distilled with Distiller 9, but it seems that is not the magic solution (as you already see that it worked). Both Illustrator and InDesign: CS4. Platform: Windows 7.
    That combo works for me.
    A minor -- relatively unrelated -- note:

    I also tried to import the .ps file into indesign (which I've never used before), as you suggest, but I got an error about the program not being able to recognize the file format (maybe a plugin missing?).
    No, that indicates you attempted to "open" your ps. You must create a new document first, then use "Place" -- Adobe's terminology for what every other program on the planet calls "Import". It's relatively inconsequential, because either failure or success with InDesign doesn't mean that much; I only included it to point out another blatant unnecessary difference between the two programs.

  • Links on webpage only coloured on mouseover

    Hi all,
    This has been annoying me for ages. Some of the links on my webpage do have colour without having to put the mouseover, and some don't I have checked the settings in the inspector menu and I even set them all to the same setting - and yet I still get this what seems random colour or no colour of the links. I have checked the links and they all work. If anyone has any suggestions I'd be really grateful!
    The website can be found at http://rossculloch.co.uk/Site/Homepage.html
    Cheers,
    Ross
    P.S I'm using iweb '09

    If you want ALL hyperlinks on a page to be exactly the same select one, set it's color and other properties in the Inspector/Link/Format pane and click on the *Use for New Links on Page* button. That should set all of the existing text based hyperlinks on that page to be the same.

  • Blocks of transparency and colour corrupting files.

    Please help.  When working on layered files in photoshop my image will suddenly be filled with blocks of transparency, copying of other portions of the images and random colour changes.  basically the image goes crazy.  At this point I loose what ever I have done since the last save. If I save the image then the file become corrupted and I loose all the work.
    I am running 10.10.1 on a 2014 iMac with fully paid for version of the online photoshop cc2014

    Could you please post a screenshot to illustrate the issue?
    Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?

    What kinds are the Layers involved?

  • Fuzzy screen, strange colours, and startup freeze

    Hello there.
    This issue might have been covered, but I have not found a thread with it specifically.
    The thing is, I have an first generation Imac G5, with 17 inches screen and 1.8 Ghz. It has Leopard with the latest patches. The serial number was in the range of the repair extention program (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2390?viewlocale=en_US) so I got it repared for that issue over a year ago. There was no video gliches, but it just refused to power up. They really had a hard time making in work at the shop I went to in Montréal. I think they said the first power supply they instelled grilled, and they also had to change the mother board. But at last it was ok and worked for a year.
    But small video glitches (with strange random colour lines)and kernel panics started to became more frequent until finally, the thing froze on mid startup.
    After a night's sleep it started all right with a bit of screen oddities but froze two minutes after when a program was started. It starts all right in safe mode, but more screen oddities become apparent over time and after a while it dies painfully in an abstract graphic figures drug addict vision style nightmare. I have tried all the basic reset stuff without sucess.
    At apple they say repair it at your own expanse and bugger off... lol. But I'm really being poor student budget here! So basically, I want to identify the problem's origins, know if I can sort it out myself and how... If not, how much would it cost to repair the damned beauty. It would be a shame to end the love-hate relationship we share, and I might be old-school but I like keeping my comps more than 3 years.
    Thanks in advance for all your answers ladies, gents and geeks.

    Welcome to Discussions Antoine - you may be having a problem with your video RAM, or with your power supply or logic board. Try starting from your install disk and run Disk Utility:
    Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
    Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.

  • Vertical, coloured lines

    hi,
    I'm getting the strangest thing happening. After restart the screen goes gray then random coloured vertical lines draw on the screen.. trying to restart by pressing the start button for several seconds doesn't help... the macbook just turns off then back to the vertical lines.. took out the power plug but that didn't help either... the only thing that got the MB back to normal was taking the battery out then back in. After that the MB restarted normally.
    I have a second MB, which had the same problem today. One of the two has had it's RAM upgraded the other hasn't been openen at all. So it's probably not a RAM issue.. the only thing I can think of right now is the heat. It's over 30 deg C and the MB's seem to be running very hot... but that's just a guess.
    thank's for any feedback.

    Hey guys,
    I would like to point out that, while zapping the PRAM is a great quick fix, it is most certainly not an acceptable form of fixing the problem.
    The problem, as we can be 99% sure of, is that Apple has released a faulty OS that has adversely affected our MacBooks, and has caused us all some considerable worry and stress.
    The most obvious solution is to wait for a patch in the next OS release (10.4.8); and all we can do is make sure that they are aware of the problem (which I'm sure they are).
    As one of you pointed out earlier, another possible fix involves reverting to 10.4.6. I would highly discourage that any of us do such a thing; because it is not US that should be suffering or making change for a problem that is most clearly APPLE'S fault.
    I would prescribe a march straight over to your nearest Apple Store; but when you get there, please make sure that you show them this STILL unanswered forum, and don't let them make you think that this is in any way your fault. IT'S THEIRS
    One last thing. In response to "nvram -p = SystemAudioVolume w; in the case of 10.4.7." Have any of you observed, that when you press the mute button on your keyboard that only the bezel panel (the square, grey, box that appears and shows the level of your volume) responds to the key; while the icon in the upperright corner stays the same.
    I never really gave it much thought until I saw "SystemAudioVolume w." Connection, or coincedent?
    Thank you,
    ClyPinto
