Re: Differences solaris 10 update versions

Yes, the big difference is that new packages can be added to a Solaris 10 update. These are listed in the Package List "What's New" section of the release and installation collection at docs.sun.com:
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-7016/gcxeq?l=en&a=view
-- Alan

If you use the standard install methods (either full install or live upgrade), it will add the new packages. I don't think it is recommended (or supported) that you run pkgadd directly just for the new packages, but you could try that at your own risk.

  • How to check Solaris update version

    Hi,
How to check which update version is on Solaris 10?
I have Solaris 10 update 4 installed on SPARC and I want to make sure that it is update 4.
    The output from uname command:
    bash-3.00# uname -a
    SunOS sun3 5.10 Generic_118833-17 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V245
Does the number 118833-17 indicate that this is update 4?
    Kind regards,
    Daniel

So how it is possible that I have downloaded from Sun download the file sol-10-u4-ga-sparc-dvd-iso-a.zip and sol-10-u4-ga-sparc-dvd-iso-b.zip. Burned and using JumpStart i have installed on the SPARC machine. And this is not Update 4?
According to me it should be updated 4.

  • New to solaris---is update manager working correctly?

well as my subject says I am new to solaris having put it on an pc bout a week ago. as I am using the "free" verson (not open solaris) I knew I would not be entitled to certain goodies but seem to have run into an issue getting the updates I (presumably) am entitled to. simply put I open up the solaris application "update manager" which is on my desktop saying "updates available". now upon initially launching the app I specified that I was using the free version (well it let me register without a code so I assume sun knows my status), and then selected the option to put a check mark next to all available updates. well after waiting like a full day with it showing that is was still in the process up updating I eventually aborted the process. I then tried installing a couple of the updates and though it took a while it worked. so I selected 3 of 4 more and again the update manager showed that I was updating but nothing was happening (to my knowledge). after several hours I aborted the app again. so what am I doing wrong. first off I am assuming that what sun presents to me is what is actually available to me using the free unregistered version of solaris. why then would updates fail? btw I know some linux (not an expert) and I figured that behind the scenes update manager was checking for dependencies and installing what I needed from sun repos. but of course I could be way off bass here. so what gives? thanks much in advance.

first off I am assuming that what sun presents to me is what is actually available to me using the free unregistered version of solaris.No. Update Manager will show you everything but will only allow you to install basically security and a small subset of other patches.
When you ran through the Solaris registration GUI you had a chance to enter a support contract #. If you chose not to enter one or if you want to use it without registering then you only get access to a few of the patches.

  • Solaris 10 update 9 - live upgrade issues with ZFS

    Hi
After doing a live upgrade from Solaris 10 update 8 to Solaris 10 update 9 the alternate boot environment I created is no longer bootable.
I have completed all the pre-upgrade steps like:
    - Installing the latest version of live upgrade from the update 9 ISO.
    - Create and test the new boot environment.
    - Create a sysidcfg file used by the live upgrade that has auto_reg=disable in it.
There is also no errors while creating the boot environment or even when activating it.
Here is the error I get:

  • When is Solaris 10 update 9 due?

At the beginning of the year there were hints that Solaris 10 update 9 was due in around April/May, as we are now into July 2010.
Is Solaris 10 update 9 due ( or Solaris 11 ) going to arrive before the end of year?

If you are correct and the next release is being delayed until after September (if it October then it will be a year since the last release), will this release be Solaris 11 an actual version upgrade and not Solaris 10 update 9 a back port of technology from OpenSolaris

When I tried to update and the massage always appear "Unable to retrieve phone information" Does anyone having the same problem?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Got the same problem: Unable to retrieve phone information.
I reinstalled Nsu -> did not help. Same error.
I am using the general Profile and restarted the phone several times (plus removing battery) etc etc.
    My product code is 0572856.
My custom version is 10.045.203.2 (29.09.08)
According to my phone provider there is a newer software available. I got the problem that the caller-id is not always shown when the contact is saved in the phone: When i save my second number in my n85 contacts with the international dial code, i can see the contacts name when receiving SMS only, but not if i get called from that number. When i remove the international dial code i can see the contact's name when i get called but not when i receive a SMS. I have only one contact saved in my phone (no duplicates!). Tried to move it to sim memory, to either use one memory or both memories. Nothing helps. Whether the number is from the same phone provider or not does not make any difference. I cant save both formats in one contact either.
According to my phone provider this is a known bug and can be removed by downloading the latest firmware for N85.
But i cant download anything, dont even know if there is really a newer software to download for my above mentioned version.
i tried to download nsu-versions in other languages, but that did not help too.
    any help/suggestions?

  • OpenAL Update, Version 2.0.7.0

Haven't tested anything yet but there is a new OpenAL out,
    Updated Summer 2009 : Version 2.0.7.0

    DLL Version numbers:
    ?* OpenAL32.dll version 6.4.357.24
    ?* wrap_oal.dll version 2.2.0.5
    Changes and Bugfixes
?* Fixed bugs and improved performance of the Capture extension
?* "Generic Hardware" device returns more accurate 'Buffers Processed' count
?* Various performance improvements in "Generic Hardware" and "Generic Software" devices
    ?* Miscellanous bug fixes?

"Re: OpenAL Update, Version 2.0.7.0/ ?
P.S. For those running Windows x64 of any version, don't forget that if you're going to make this change, use the one found in the SysWOW64 folder.
That may explain why replacing the .dll for Mirror's Edge from the System32 folder made the game crash.
Interestingly it did not have the same effect on Mass Effect...
Out of curiosity why would you recommend this?
I understand the difference between 32 and 64bit OS's but can't see a working example of the difference this would make.
Do you mean use the correct file for games that support 64bit operating modes?
EDIT :? Well i guess my guess was correct. Using the openal32.dll file found in sysWOW64 doesn't cause Mirror's Edge to crash.
Mass Effect must be 32bit and Mirror's Edge 64 bit.
    Good call Stormy.

  • What's the difference between firmware update 1.5 and 1.5.1?

i got the 1.5 update, but the newest one (1.5.1) does not show up in the SU which i am not concerned with... but what is the difference between the two versions of the update?

You're welcome. I have two other posts on the subject that should help.
They simply fixed the updater in 1.5.1 to include an update path for the ROM shipped with the models described above, of which my computer is one. Mine got the later update, so you and I essentially have the same ROM. I got fewer fixes since my ROM was slightly newer than yours to begin with.

  • Difference between installing update 8 from scratch and updating from u7

I had just installed Solaris 10 update 7 on my x4140 when I noticed update 8 came out. I am yet to install all my services (Comms suite 7, Webspace portal server and more) so it's not too late to re-install but still a few hours work. My question is, will I gain anything from installing update 8 with it's improvements over update 7 or will updating using update manager give the same OS. One advantage I can think of is that update 8 may use a more up to date ZFS version and lu version. Should I bother to re-install while it's possible?

Yes, very rarely updates do funny things to a system.

  • Updated version of Swype

This is more of a shout out to Verizon to update swype than anything. The preinstalled version is still at version 1.64.40.9380. The current version of swype is up to version 2.6 or something like that. Because of the agreement swype has with verizon, it seems that verizon is responsible for the OTA update. So Verizon, for Christmas, I would like the updated version of swype.
If you'd like to see the preloaded version of swype on your phone updated too, just give a small shout out on this board. Thanks for the responses in advance.

The difference is we have the full version of Swype on our Droid X, the later version is only a beta.  Betas are always a few steps ahead of the official versions.  Our last swype update came with the 2.2 update.  I imagine the official update will be right in line with 2.3 release.

I also have Jolly's problem. I found the iMovie 9.0.9 folder and tried to launch the older version of iMove. It would not launch. I removed all of the iMovie preferences from the Preferences folder, removed iMove 10 from the applications folder, and restarted my Mac. iMove 9.0.9 still won't launch and I can't access my videos created with the older version of iMovie. Is there a way to uninstall iMovie 10 and reinstall iMovie 9.0.9?
