Re-Host Effort - Access DB to an Oracle RDBMS platform
I am developing a strategy to migrate a stand-alone Access database to a web-based Oracle RDBMS platform. I was looking to see if a standard methodology (or at least a set of common milestones) existed to accomplish the task? I'm aware that the given effort will involve some customization, but I wanted to save some time in planning.
Thanks.
So whenever a disk operation is involved, whether this was because you run within a transaction, doing a sync operation, performing a restore, running a recovery or any sort of integrity assertion to the in-memory instance, you have to step in, capture diff data with its current format, convert it to schema changes and commit it to the relational database. This doesn't seem to me like a trivial process, does it?

Access remote MonetDB from Oracle using ODBC
Hello,
I really need your help, I have been trying for more that one week to figure out what is the problem without success
Here is the details of my problem:
I have oracle 11g installed on machine1 (ubuntu 64bit) , and I have MonetDB installed on machine2 (ubuntu 64bit, ip= 192.168.56.101)
I need to access MonetDB database from oracle.
I followed the configurations steps but I get always the following error:

ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message:

I installed unixODBC on the machine1 and I used MonetDB ODBC driver which generates the following odbc.ini file
[monetdb]

BaraaHi,
Firstly, try to configure your gateway listener on another port than 1521 as it is the default one for database. Don't forget to change also the port in TNSNAMES.ORA.
Then use the host machine or ip address rather than the local host in the LISTENER.ORA and TNSNAMES.ORA.
Avoid to use $ORACLE_HOME in the ENVS from LISTENER.ORA but use a complete PATH.
Then test your ODBC connection outside Oracle. What is the result?
Try to get result of the following commands on the Oracle machine1 :
$cd /usr/bin
$./odbcinst -q -d
$./odbcints -q -s
Change parameter in gateway init file:
HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL=DEBUG
Execute your SELECT statement:
select "id" from "test"@monetdb;
Get the gateway trace file in /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/hs/log and send us
Thanks

Error while migrating from ms access 2003 db to oracle 10g in sqldeveloper
Hello,
i am working on migration project from MS access 2003 to Oracle 10g on windows XP sp2 plateform using SQL developer.
it went quit smoothly till the "capture microsoft access" .so in this step the sql developer opens the access db in background... but while opening the file in background it gives error
Object library not registered i tried many workaround but of no use..
anybody's help in this regard would be well appreciated.
thanks.Hi,
Did you follow all the steps in the SQL*Developer documentation about preparing the Access database for migration -
Oracle® SQL Developer User’s Guide Release 3.0 -
2.2.4.3 Before Migrating From Microsoft Access
and -
Oracle® SQL Developer Supplementary Information for Microsoft Access Migrations Release 3.0
2.4 Preparing the Microsoft Access Database for Capture
The error also indicates there may be a problem with your Access installation so could you check that everything is okay with that ? I have found references that indicate a re-install of Office/Access will prevent the error.

Hello,
I use Entity Framework code first approach.
My project is working fine with SQL Server. But, I want to access Oracle too. I want to switch SQL Server and Oracle in run time.
I am able to access Oracle using "Oracle.ManagedDataAccess.EntityFramework.dl" in a new project.
But, Is this possible to access SQL Server and Oracle in the same project.
Thanks,
MuruganThis should be possible with a Code-First workflow. In Code-First the database mapping layer is generated at runtime.

How to access remote tables on Oracle from Access fron end?
Note: Access application and access tables are in separate .mdb files.
I've successfully migrated my Access 2000 tables to Oracle. And there were no errors during the migration. The two original Access tables were renames to tblBOMdetail_L and tblPartInfo_L and two new linked tables were created with the _R name. Mapping queries were created for tblBOMdetail and tblPartInfo.
However, when I launch my Access application, I get the following error: "The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot find the input table or query 'tblPartInfo'. Make sure that it exists and that its name is spelled correctly."
Is there something more that I have to do to enable this connection. I already have the necessary ODBC connection set up.
Thanks.Hi ,
The first thing you need to verify is that you can view the data in the tables with _R appended to their name. This will verify whether the ODBC link is set up correctly and pointing at the correct Oracle table in the Oracle database.
Another point. Are you still using 2 .mdb files? If so since your data is now in Oracle it may be prudent to use only one .mdb.

MS Access Memo fields to Oracle 9i
I've successfully migrated an Access 97 database to Oracle 9i, but I'm having trouble connecting to certain tables from MS Access. The common feature of these tables is that they have notes fields of type Memo
These fields have been correctly migrated to CLOB in Oracle, but when I look at them in the Design view of Access, they show as being of type Text
I've attempted to create another Access linked table to one of these Oracle tables, but the notes field still shows as type Text
When these linked tables are opened, I get one of two errors:
"Reserved Error (-7711), there is no message for this error" followed by "SRS Belfast MI can't open this table in Datasheet view"
or
"ODBC - call failed" followed by "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Function sequence error (#0)" followed by the Datasheet view opening will all the fields displaying #Name? as values
Any suggestions?Hi Richard,
we have not been able to reproduce this problem in-house. Can you forward the following information to [email protected] please ? :
1. Information on how to produce a small testcase that causes the same problem.
2. The error.log file which can be found in %OMWB_HOME%\bin.
3. Details on the version of the ODBC driver you are using.
Thank you,
Tom. -

TFTP Host Error: Access violation
Hi guys,
I am pretty new in this forum.
I've been using MACBOOK and MAC OS X since middle 2009.
I am using the host tftp server to upload files into my embedded boards.
This time i upgraded do Snow Leopard and tftp does not work anymore.
I always have the following message: Host Error: Access violation.
I tried many thing but i can not solve this puzzle.
The following is what i tried:
1) chmod 777 all the folder and files;
2) Allow all users to conect the TFTP folder (in System Preferences);
3) Firewall is on now, but even with firewall off I have the same problem;
3) I tried to check the file tftp.plist (System/Library/LaunchDaemons) and i noticed two major differences: a) It was written DISABLED and b) the flag was for secure -s. Well i root and changed the file with ENABLED and -i insecure, but nothing changed. The strange thing also is that after i star the computer the back to its normal like the changes i made weren't saved, but i was root and they saved.
I am also using the TFTP Server 3.3.1 from Mr Fabrizio Larosa. Permissions and other stuff are ok when using this software.
Am i forgetting something special?
Can somebody help me? I do not know what to do anymore.
Thanks volks.Yes i know that there is no TFTP in System Preferences:
What i meant is that I configured the sharing permissions in System Preferences for the TFTP folder i am using. For example, my folder is: /Volumes/Ncb002D/00_TFTPbootFiles. Fro that i used the System Preferences and added the folder.
Ok i understand that, so how can assure i can have my TFTPserver Enabled using launchctl and how can i change it from secure to insecure? More than that i am loosing my hair, i need the TFTP working. Without that i can not transfer files to my embedded board.
Last version was working. I was using Leopard and everything was ok, the TFTP was working. After i changed to Snow Leopard i can not do anything without a Host access error.
So i compared the 2 tftp.plist files, Leopard working and Snow Leopard not working. As i wrote the major differences are: ENABLED tag in first line and -s tag (secure mode) in tftp.plist for Snow Leopard. In Leopard the tftp.plist has no ENABLE tag and it is by default -i (insecure).
I really do not know if that is the reason, i just do not know what to do to get this to work. -
Host-based access restrictions
What is the preferred method for implementing host-based access restrictions in Directory Server 5.2?
I am setting up Solaris 9 clients using the native LDAP client.
I tried setting up host-based access using netgorups, and it works great, but found the user's group associations stopped working. Only the default group shows up.
Removing netgroups allows any valid user to authenticate to any host. Very bad.
As a last resort, one could add an ACL for each user in the LDAP server specifying which hosts he can bind from. But then again, it's the proxyagent that will be binding.
There has to be a better way to do this. Absolutely no info on this in the admin guides.Solaris10u6 (Solaris 10 10/08) added a pam_list module that appears to do what your asking about from a brief glance at the whats new.
