Re: Open media files

Well, sure thing. If you just want to open Winamp or some other app, you can use Runtime.exec() to execute the app and pass it the file you want to play.
If you want to play things within your application, so you can control the playback, instead of launching separate apps... you could use Java Media Framework (JMF), or you could use QuickTime For Java. I believe that QT still includes the libraries and installs this when you install QT on a system. Search the web for QuickTime for Java, I'm sure you'll find some info.

Thanks for the advice !
But i find some problems..
Running the exec() command in a java application, i try to pass to quick time the URL as a parameter to quicktimeplayer.exe. It works if i try with a mp3 files on my hard disk (for example c:\music\Mysong1.mp3) but if i try to pass the file parameter just like http://www.mp3site.com/AnotherSong1.mp3 it doesn't work..
How can i do ?
Thanks in advance !!!!!

  • QuickTime 6.5.2 won't open media files......

I just downloaded and installed QuickTime 6.5.2 and it will not open media files. Just gives me the old broken film icon with the Apple symbol in it. Anyone got any suggestions? I am running Win98 on a 2 Ghz Athlon based machine. Got half a gig of SDRAM and a fairly good video card. Not a geek, so, I need some suggestions. Any help would be great. Thanks.
Plain Jane, Athlon 32   Windows 98

QuickTime has always maintained backward compatibility and files made in version 3 Pro will still play just fine with version 7.
But times change and, with QuickTime version 7 a new video codec (H.264) was introduced.
This codec is not supported by older versions and most online media has been using it for over a year. So not much of any "new" content will be viewable on a Win 98 machine.
It really is time to consider updating your OS (and maybe your PC, too) if you want to view newer QuickTime content.

HI, I HAVE A BLACKBERRRY CURVE 8900. THE PHONE DOESNT ALLOW ME TO OPEN UP MY MEDIA FILES (SONGS, VIDEOS) EVERYTIME I TRY A WHITE SCREEN COMES AND IT SAYS UNABLE TO PLAY CONTENT. PLEASE HELP! THANKS

Glitches like this will often correct themself.
Try another reboot as described. Leave the BlackBerry powered on.
Remove the battery for five minutes, replace and reboot.
If it continues, you may need to simple reload or upgrade the operating system.

  • Screen flicker on opening media files

I have the following problem... Whenever I click or open a media file (mpg or avi) the screen flickers momentarily. It is most noticeable on white backgrounds like Explorer windows. Also, when I delete a media file the screen goes completely blank for a second and then comes back. It then makes the "new hardware detected" sound.  I've tried almost every possible driver, reinstalled everything, I've upgraded my power supply, disabled overclocking, you name it. I should mention that if I turn DirectX acceleration off in the Troubleshooting Tab, the problem disappears, but that's not really a solution. I suspect that nVidia have put so much crap in their drivers these days (honestly, how many people use "rotation") that they've lost their way. If anybody can help, it would be much appreciated.
    System specs:
MSI GeForceFX 5900XT-VTD overclocked to 500/750MHz (very stable)

After uploading many media files on your Blackberry, sometimes you need to do a reset. That is done be removing the battery while the blackberry is up, wait a bit, then plug it back. Your Blackberry will start up (can take up to a few minutes), then see if your files are better.

  • Cant get quicktime to always open media files

I'm a very new Mac OS user so forgive me if this has been answered elsewhere or I'm just dumb and don't know what I'm doing.
I'm trying to get some media files (WAV for example) to always open with QuickTime instead of iTunes. When I do Open With, Other, and select QuickTime and check Always Open With, it only changes that files association, not every WAV file.
When I right click and do Get Info, the Change All button never un-grays. As before, I can only change the association of that one file.
The QuickTime panel is set properly but I believe that only refers to the plugin. I've looked thru iTunes but can only find a button to make it the default player, not a way to un-make it the default.
    Any suggestions??

    Hello Zach:
Rather than me put you through hoops, I suggest you post in the Quicktime forum:

There are people there that are expert (I am not one) with the QT application.

        Hi Rohit ,
I had copied these .class & .xml files under Myclasses -> oracle.apps.icx and oracle.apps.po and oracle.apps.fnd was same which comes part of the standard OA tutorial.
I copied same under Myprojects as well.
you have to decompile the class file into java file and then place it in Myproject directory , also copy all dependency files like BC4J components , and then
try to run from Jdeveloper .
Alternatively you can get the entire ICX folder and zip it and add it via library .

  • File Error: wrong type   can't open media file

After capturing my film using Final Cut Pro,"Capture Now" I can't open the film file. It seems the film was caputured onto my Mac notebook in a file format Final Cut Pro doesn't recognize or can't open. When I try to open the file the following error message pops up: "File Error: Wrong Type".
It seems the format of this media file is AV or avi (the name of the media file is "Untitled - AV". It's not a .fcp file.
I tried to open it with Quicktime or other programs, but without success, no program can open it.
    I appreciate your help!

I followed the instructions in the article AppleCare Technical Support emailed: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302337 . It helped to delete the User Preferences and to remove receipts and to reinstall the entire Final Cut Pro Studio software. I think what really helped was to update the latest software versions (Final Cut Pro 5.1.4).
    Thank you very much!

  • Opening media files

Using the BlackBerry media manager I have transferred a number of audio files to my BlackBerry Curve. However, I don't seem to be able to play them. I have done the following: While transferring I selected the suggested conversion for optimal Playback. When I view the files on my BlackBerry (by adding them as an attachment to an email) I can see they are located on my media card and have the .m4a format, similar to other files which I can play. Mass storage mode is off (never used it yet) My handheld is not connected to my computer. Also, I had a number of songs (albums) on my handheld which I used to be able to access but can't any more, even though I see they are still on my media card. Any suggestions?

  • Script to Open Media Files

There is a radio station that I stream often but I have to go through several website pages to get to the media player. I have the streams web address and would like a simple apple script that I could type in the streams address (once) to launch automatically without having to manually type it in over and over. Any suggestions? I want to do this without having to launch a player or web browser, just through the applescript menu.
    Thanks/.

    Hi Brandon
    One line:
    open location "http://www.apple.com"
Put your own URL inside the quotation marks and run. This should open the URL in your default web browser - although I can't test it because I don't have your URL.
Save the script in the Scripts folder in your own user library (or in the top-level System/Library/Scripts folder if you want all users to access it).

You probably have not seen anyone reporting the exact same problem as you. All three crash reports have the same crash signature and as currently ranked 67 it is not the commonest of reasons for a crash.
I hope you enter your email contact information when reporting crashes. I note you see this crash when using videos, others may possibly see this crash in other circumstances.
You have already tried the obvious, attempts at a fix so it is now down to wait and see, maybe developers working on the bug will report something or fix it.
Did you try my suggestion of installing portable ESR ?

  • IMac can no longer open .jpg .jpeg & other media files sent from PC?

I can no longer open .jpg photos & media files sent to my iMac from my wife's PC through Outlook email. I get an error message saying the item cannot be opened. All other recipients have no trouble opening these attachments. We have tried numerous fixes suggested by Apple chat sites but to no avail. I suspect an OS update around December 2010 has caused this problem on not just our machine but thousands of other iMac users & Apple is ignoring it. Why isn't Apple addressing this huge issue?

Likely, because there are millions of Mac users, and not everyone is experiencing this issue.   Until it happens to all Mac users with a specific system, it will be very difficult to isolate the cause.

  • Safari tries to open Windows Media files using iTunes

Sometimes when I try to view a Windows Media file on my PowerBook running 10.3.9 instead of the Windows Media player opening to play the file iTunes will open. When that happens I have to force quite iTunes and Safari, locate a WMV file on my hard drive, use the Get Info window to set all WMV files to open using the WMV player. It wouldn't be so bad if I only had to do this once, but I have to do it over and over again from time to time.
I'm not sure but repairing permissions might be one of the triggers that requires me to redo this, but it might not be necessary for me to repair premissions in order for this to happen. I can fix the problem when it occurs, but it's annoying and a waste of time to have to do it over and over again.
Has anybody else had this problem? anybody know hot to fix it once and for all? Thanks.

Upgrade to newer version which is comparable with Yosemite.
