Re-run Faces detection + Cork board not working?

In some of my albums, Faces obviously hasn't properly detected any faces at all. Is there a way to force iPhoto to re-detect Faces again?
Also, I've added around 100 names or so – but still my Cork board looks like this:
http://i42.tinypic.com/b3q33k.png
I'm running iPhoto '09 with around 35,000 photos.

That won't work for the OP's problem.
Basically, iPhoto does 2 things for Faces. Initially it scans your entire collection for any faces. Some people have reported that trying to mess around with iPhoto during this phase screws up the process. My advice would be to leave it alone.
After the scan FOR faces, you then identify faces and iPhoto will try and help you out with that.
There is currently no option to "re-scan" photos for faces; however, check out this threat at MacRUmors:
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=7007848
face_blob.db
face.db
These two files hold data for Faces. Read carefully, backup your photo collection, and try at your own risk, but they've been able to get a re-scan using these files. Be warned that any faces data you have currently will be erased. Also, try doing this overnight depending on the collection size you have. A 20GB+ iPhoto Collection should take at least a couple hours if not more.
Hope this helps, Kalman

  • InDesign CS3 - Detect Edges does not work with transparency

I have three machines running at home. One is a PowerMac G5 running OS X Tiger and Adobe CS3 Master Collection. The other two are new Intel iMacs running OS X Leopard, also with the CS3 Master Collection.
My problem is this: On the PowerMac G5, I can create an image in Photoshop that has a transparent background with a cut out object. When I place this object on a page in InDesign, I can use the Detect Edges feature in the Text Wrap panel to automatically detect the edges of my object with its transparent background.
However, when I do this same procedure on the new iMac, InDesign fails to detect the edges of the object. This does not seem to be dependent on whether the image was created on the iMac or the PowerMac.
What I have discovered, is that the Detect Edges feature works on the iMac if the image has a solid white background, whether on the same layer as the object (i.e. 1 layer) or as a separate layer behind the object.
So, if anyone out there, or particularly one of the developers over at Adobe, could check on this issue and find out if my case is an anomaly or a real bug, that would be terrific.
    Thanks!

    F,
No need to need to get into a tif. I was merely pointing out that your response wasn't directed to the OPs request.
Jared isn't asking how things work, he's asking if they work the same for other users as they do for him with the little complication that they work for him in two different ways.
    >So, if anyone out there, could check on this issue and find out if my case is an anomaly or a real bug, that would be terrific.
    Jared,
I can't talk for Tiger. I have an iMac running 10.5 and detect edges does not work for me with transparency. But there is a difference in the text wrap options between a transparent background and a white one. When an image with a white background is selected, the Alpha channel is greyed out. With a transparent background the Alpha channel becomes available, and when selected another field is generated. [Alpha: Transparency]
Are those options not available on your G5?

    Things to note:
I have been unable to update firmware on this computer for about a year now. Im not sure why.
I am running a bootleg copy of Windows XP on this computer, I would not like to spend $149 to get Windows 7 if possible.
any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Why don't you take your 'old' MBP into your local Apple Store and have them check out everything that's wrong with it - and I mean everything? Then, when you get an estimate about how much it would cost to get the machine completely repaired, ask about the Apple flat-rate repair pricing?
It's worth a shot - and with what you may save, you can put in the bank for a new MBP.

I have a Mac Pro tower am running OSX and iTunes will not work. It has always worked flawlessly. I can see all my iTunes content- my playlists, my songs et cetera, But I cannot play anything. The progress bar is  'stuck'...any suggestions?

Thanks. I have been using iTunes since its inception and have never had a problem...I'm using the latest version. The progress bar is the bar that moves when you're playing a song..it just won't start when I double click on a song,..have tried quitting, rebooting etc but nothing works. Apple are useless-they have told me twice they've tried to call me 'momentarily', but I've been waiting by the phone, and they definitely have not tried to call...

In order to resolve the issue if it occurs again, more info would be helpful as to what occurred prior to the "hang." One potential fix would be to try a Safe Boot:
After the Mac is completely shut down, push the power button and immediately after the startup tone, hold down the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
There should be a message that says "SafeBoot." After the Mac is completely booted, try restarting and see if the issue is gone.

  • HT3529 My ios 7 update has made my message key board not work ?

After updating to IOS 7 update. It has made my key board not work very well when typing a message.

Perform a "hard reset" on the device by pressing down and holding the home button and the sleep/wake button for up to 30secs. until you see a black screen with the Apple logo, then release.
Then test to see if it solved the problem.

    Hi,
I jumped from 06 to 11 so faces is a new things for me. I tried to search for a way to re-run the face detection after matching 500+ photos. Is there a way to use existing database to work on the rest of the photos?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Elements Organizer v9 crashes whenever I try to mark a face / face detecion also does not work

    Hi,
I face the following probem: My Elements Organizer software always crashes whenever I try to mark a face in a picture. Furthermore, face detection does not work. The function regularly gives as a result that it couldn't find a person. Even if the autoanalyizer already marked faces. I tried the same with a new catalog and faced no problems, so I guess something must be wrong with the catalog (unfortunatelly).
Is there a possibility to reset face detection information in a catalog without having to catalogize all photos again (for example, I solved problems with thumbnail generation by deleting the respective thumbnail-file)?
Thanks in advance for any helpful hint!

  • MacBook Pro running amazingly slow (formatting DID not work)

I own a MacBook Pro with OS X installed on it, and it suddenly started running very slow.
It happened literally overnight. One day it was working, the next morning it wasnt. I tried formatting the hard drive via the disk utility when starting the MacBook, but it didnt work. I also tried to delete my Windows partition, but it didnt allow me (though I dont believe that is a problem, since the last time I used it was over a year ago).
    Anybody has any ideas?
    Thanks for your help,
    Andre.

Suggestions of Things You Can Do To Help A Slow Computer
If your computer seems to be running slower here are some things you can do:
    Start with visits to:     OS X Maintenance - MacAttorney;
                                      The X Lab: The X-FAQs;
                                      The Safe Mac » Mac Performance Guide;
                                      The Safe Mac » The myth of the dirty Mac;
                                      Mac maintenance Quick Assist.
Boot into Safe Mode then repair your hard drive and permissions:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions Pre-Lion
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    Repair the Hard Drive - Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilites Menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD disk icon and click on the arrow button below.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. If no errors are reported, then click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Restart your computer normally and see if this has helped any. Next do some maintenance:
For situations Disk Utility cannot handle the best third-party utility is Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible.
Note: Alsoft ships DW on a bootable DVD that will startup Macs running Snow Leopard or earlier. It cannot start Macs that came with Lion or later pre-installed, however, DW will work on those models.
    Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or later and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive.
    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Protection
An excellent link to read is Tom Reed's Mac Malware Guide.
Also, visit The XLab FAQs and read Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware.
    See these Apple articles:
Mac OS X Snow Leopard and malware detection
OS X Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
OS X Mountain Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
About file quarantine in OS X
If you require anti-virus protection I recommend using VirusBarrier Express 1.1.6 or Dr.Web Light both from the App Store. They're both free, and since they're from the App Store, they won't destabilize the system. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for these recommendations.)
    Troubleshooting Applications
I recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX, Mavericks Cache Cleaner, or Cocktail that you can use for removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc. Corrupted cache, log, or temporary files can cause application or OS X crashes as well as kernel panics.
If you have Snow Leopard or Leopard, then for similar repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. Applejack does not work with Lion and later.
    Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
    1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
    2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is
used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine
requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
        drive being backed up.
Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Get Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. Synk Pro
      6. Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files. For help with using Time Machine visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine.
Referenced software can be found at MacUpdate.
    Additional Hints
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
Add more RAM. If your computer has less than 2 GBs of RAM and you are using OS X Leopard or later, then you can do with more RAM. Snow Leopard and Lion work much better with 4 GBs of RAM than their system minimums. The more concurrent applications you tend to use the more RAM you should have.
Always maintain at least 15 GBs or 10% of your hard drive's capacity as free space, whichever is greater. OS X is frequently accessing your hard drive, so providing adequate free space will keep things from slowing down.
Check for applications that may be hogging the CPU:
    Pre-Mavericks
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
    Mavericks and later
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the View menu.  Click on the CPU tab in the toolbar.
Often this problem occurs because of a corrupted cache or preferences file or an attempt to write to a corrupted log file.

  • PSE 10  and Adobe CS6: When running silent install help is not working afterwards

    Hello,
I'm not sure if this is the correct forum. If not: Please help me find the correct one.
I have a big issue with Adobe CS6 (and former versions like Photoshop Elements 10): When installing it from DVD running GUI everything is working fine afterwards. If I install e.g. Photoshop Elements 10 using "Silent Installation" help is not working afterwards. It states that it cannot locate the URL. I have not installed AIR and also do not plan to install it.
I have 'played' a little around with Common Files\Adobe\helpcfg and help directory. Now at least I do not get an error message but still it's not the online help which opens in the browser but the web page that is defined as 'home'.
The same I see now in Adobe CS6. I have e.g. packaged After Effects and Illustrator and when deploying it I'm not able to open help as well and I fear that this is the same issue.
Has anyone deeper knowledge about how "helpcfg" is working? Any example files? Any other help appreciated as well.
    Kind regards
    János

@hannilator Have you checked the exceptions folder contents for instructions on how to push to logged off computers? Here's what I get when I package CS6 (DesignWebPrem) and excude AIR/CHC:
After you have deployed the package, separately install the products in the exception folder.
IMPORTANT: Before you install the products in the exception folder, refer to the following Adobe Knowledgebase article for information on installing these products and configuring the settings correctly:
    http://www.adobe.com/go/aamee_exceptions
NOTE: The installation commands provided below will work when the user is logged in to the client machine where the package is being deployed. For the scenario where the user is not logged in, prefix the following string to the command:
    sudo launchctl bsexec `ps auwwx |grep [l]oginwindow | awk '{ print $2 }'`
As an example, here is the command to install "Adobe AIR" when the user is not logged in to the client machine (assuming Adobe AIR is part of the package):
    sudo launchctl bsexec `ps auwwx |grep [l]oginwindow | awk '{ print $2 }'` Adobe\ AIR\ Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/Adobe\ AIR\ Installer -silent

  • Repaired cfp-421 relay boards not working in a cfp-2000 System - power light off

Hi, we are using a cfp-2000 as a control system for various biology related experiments and prototypes.
The first configuration was controlling valves & pumps. I recently took that configuration apart after it had been sitting unused for a while and started to re-configure for a different application to control lights. I had trouble right off the bat, couldn't talk to the cfp-2000 controller. I sent it in for repair\replace and then went through a little work to re-setup in MAX. I got the IP connection working and I can turn on\off the leds on the cfp-2000.
Then I found that the three cfp-421 relay boards were not working. So I sent them in for repair. They came back but when I add them to the Remote System in MAX, I can't communicate with them. There is a message indicating that they are not connected (I don't have the exact wording but can get it if that will help). The Ready indicator is on at the cfp-421 modules but the Power indicator is off. I tried all three returned modules individually with no luck.
Any help is appreciated. We have spent quite a lot of money on repairs and have fallen behind on the project.
    Thank you. Kevin

    Thanks for responding.
    MAX version 3.1.0.3021
    Fieldpoint drivers 5.02
The messages are "The module or item addressed does not exist" and "The device is offline. Make sure the device is connected and its power is on".
If I reset the cfp-2000, all relays activate on the cfp-421 (the eight indicator lamps light) for a few seconds and then go off.
I wonder if something is broken in the backplane because the cfp-421
    power light is off.
