Re sizing a selection

Hello everyone!
I have recently obtained Photoshop and after watching a few videos, I saw a feature/tool that I do not know how to use. Lets say for the sake of the discussion and simplicity that I have a simple stick figure. Lets say that this stick figure's left arm is too short compared to the right. I saw a feature in a video that allowed someone to somehow heighlight or select the left arm and then drag the selection's outline (as if resizing a box) to change the arm's length, position, and width. I do not know what this tool is called. I can not seem to find the video again because it was in Japanese and was definiatly not a tutorial. Could anyone help me?
Much appreciated.

Hello!
I believe you are looking for Free Transform, which operates on a selection as you describe.  See the image below.  Cmd+T is definitely one of the most useful keyboard shortcuts to know!

  • PIxma Pro 100 - Lightroom Incorrect image sizing for select paper sizes

    I am trying to print from Lightroom to the Pixma Pro 100 using the A3+ Paper size (13"x19")  In Lightroom, the page and printer setups are all correct (verified by Adobe's Tech support) and in the Print Preview area, everything looks great and ready to print.
    Yet when I actually print the image to A3+ paper (and the image nearly fills the entire paper area) the resulting image is serverly cropped on the paper.  In fact is looks like it is cropping the image to 8.5x11, which obviously, only uses a portion of the 13x19 paper size.  It seems that Lighroom or the Canon Printer drivers are not respecting the selected paper size and defaulting to 8.5x11.
    Here is a link to an image of what the print out looks like:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/mylwpsns0uvr4io/2013-05-20%2009.00.15.jpg
    This does not happen when printing from Print Studio Pro, nor from Photoshop itself.
    I've dealt with Adobe Tech support and Canon - both are point fingers at each other.  Meanwhile I am unable to print anything on larger paper sizes.
    The Pixma Pro is the only printer connected and I've re-installed drivers and checked for updates.  Still the same.  At this point, any comments on the situation would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

    I am experiencing something like this as well.
    I do almost all my printing in A3+ and I do it all directly from LIghtroom. No problem til sometime this summer (post firmware update). Now whenever I set it up for 13 x 19 (and LR shows that it is 13 X 19) the finished print is actually 7.5 x 11 on the 13 x 19 in paper.
    Incredibly frustrating as I go through time, paper, ink, and tech support (at Canon and Adobe) trying to resolve this.
    Last week a Canon technician walked me through a complete reinstall of the printer and then it worked again. This week it's back to the same mess, and neither  a reinstallation of the printer today nor an update of my LR solfware resolved the problem.
    I learned today that I am able to print the correct size using Print Studio Pro, but I have never used it in the past and I'm reluctant to switch from the functional LR to Canon workflow I had going (where I knew how my printing specs would come out)

  • Sizing of selection screen

    Hi,
    How to make a small selection-screen rather than default one.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rao

    HI,
        You can create user-defined selection screens in executable programs (reports), function modules and module pools. There are three ways how user-defined selection screens can be called.
    Call From a Program
    From any program in which selection screens are defined, you can call these screens at any point of the program flow using the following statement:
    CALL SELECTION-SCREEN <numb> [STARTING AT <x1> <y 1>]
    [ENDING AT <x2> <y 2>].
    This statement calls selection screen number <numb>. The selection screen called must be defined in the calling program either as the standard selection screen (screen number 1000) or as a user-defined selection screen (any screen number). You must always use CALL SELECTION-SCREEN to call selection screens, and not CALL SCREEN. If you use CALL SCREEN, the system will not be able to process the selection screen.
    You can display a user-defined selection screen as a modal dialog box using the STARTING AT and ENDING AT additions. This is possible even if you have not used the AS WINDOW addition in the definition of the selection screen. However, you are recommended to do so, since warnings and error messages that occur during selection screen processing will then also be displayed as modal dialog boxes (see example below).
    When it returns from the selection screen to the program, the CALL SELECTION-SCREEN statement sets the return value SY-SUBRC as follows:
    SY-SUBRC = 0 if the user has chosen Execute on the selection screen
    SY-SUBRC = 4 if the user has chosen Cancel on the selection screen
    Any time a selection screen is processed, the selection screen events are triggered. System field SY-DYNNR of the associated event blocks contains the number of the selection screen that is currently active.
    REPORT SELSCREENDEF.
    SELECTION-SCREEN BEGIN OF BLOCK SEL1 WITH FRAME TITLE TIT1.
      PARAMETERS: CITYFR LIKE SPFLI-CITYFROM,
    CITYTO LIKE SPFLI-CITYTO.
    SELECTION-SCREEN END OF BLOCK SEL1.
    SELECTION-SCREEN BEGIN OF SCREEN 500 AS WINDOW.
      SELECTION-SCREEN INCLUDE BLOCKS SEL1.
      SELECTION-SCREEN BEGIN OF BLOCK SEL2
    WITH FRAME TITLE TIT2.
        PARAMETERS: AIRPFR LIKE SPFLI-AIRPFROM,
    AIRPTO LIKE SPFLI-AIRPTO.
      SELECTION-SCREEN END OF BLOCK SEL2.
    SELECTION-SCREEN END OF SCREEN 500.
    INITIALIZATION.
      TIT1 = 'Cities'.
    AT SELECTION-SCREEN.
      CASE SY-DYNNR.
        WHEN '0500'.
          MESSAGE W159(AT) WITH 'Screen 500'.
        WHEN '1000'.
          MESSAGE W159(AT) WITH 'Screen 1000'.
      ENDCASE.
    START-OF-SELECTION.
      TIT1 = 'Cities for Airports'.
      TIT2 = 'Airports'.
      CALL SELECTION-SCREEN 500 STARTING AT 10 10.
    TIT1 = 'Cities again'.
      CALL SELECTION-SCREEN 1000 STARTING AT 10 10.
    This executable program contains definitions for the standard selection screen and the user-defined screen number 500. Selection screen 500 is defined to be displayed as a modal dialog box and contains the SEL1 block of the standard selection screen. Note the phase in which the titles of the screens are defined. For the purpose of demonstration, the program calls warning messages with message class AT during the AT SELECTION-SCREEN event.
    reward if helpful.

  • Resolution problem

    How can I improve the resolution of files?  When clients upload files, they get a resolution warning for prints larger than 5x7.  Never had this problem with Photoshop Elements.  I have increased the file size to largest/100 on export.

    You cannot improve the resolution but you can increase the pixel dimension.
    Resolution comes into play when we print an image to a certain size. Since we need at least 240 ppi (and better 300 pi) for a quality print, you can calculate the needed pixel dimension by multiplying print size in inches (long side or short side - but only one of them) with the necessary print resolution (300).
    For example: For a print of 15" x 10" you would need a pixel dimension of 4500 x 3000 pixels (Print resolution 300);
    At 240 ppi print resolution the same print size would result in a pixel dimension of 3600 x 2400 pixels.
    You can set the pixel dimension in the Export Dialog / Image Sizing. Select one of the edges (Short Edge or Long Edge) and specify the size in inches and the resolution (best 300 ppi). You need to specify only one side; the other side will automatically fall according to the side ratio. So if - in the above example - you specify 15" and a resolution of 300 ppi for the the Long Edge, the Short Edge will automatically be 2400 pixels if the ratio of the sides is 1.5 : 1.
    I said initially that you cannot improve / increase the resolution. This is so because as long as an image is a digital image only, i.e. on the computer, or on the web, etc. it has only pixel dimension. Resolution comes into play only when we have also a size in inches (or cm), i.e. a physical dimension. Digital images don't have a physical dimension, only printed images have one.
    Thus you need to increase the pixel dimension of your images so much that your clients can print it with the required resolution for a specific print size.
    The question you have to ask yourself (and maybe your clients) is: What is the maximal print size that my clients should be able to make. This maximal print size (multiplied by the print resolution) will determine the pixel dimension you need to choose when exporting the image.

  • Consumption during the processing time of the production order

    Which adjustments must be made in the material master for the calculation of the lot size in the MRP run, that the consumption of the material during the processing time of the production order is considered for the calculation of the lot size.

    Hi ,
    You have to judiciously indicate  the re order point  in the material master(  the re-order point is the sum of saftey stock and consumption during replenishment lead time).
    How ever , this does not in any way influence the lot size , but only influence the no of lots i.e the procurement proposals. The lot size is determined by the lot sizing procedure selected by you , depending on various factors like agrrements with your vendor , optimum lot sizes to reduce the cost of procurment and storages etc.
    You can refer to the following url for details on lot size :http://help.sap.com/saphelp_47x200/helpdata/en/fe/819b9f643b11d3b4e40004ac160649/frameset.htm

  • How can I increase the pixel count (tolerance) that will invoke sizing handles to make them easier to select and use?

    When working with Word tables, re sizing a column's width requires placing the mouse exactly on the line, waiting for the mouse pointer to change to the sizing control, and then you click and drag.  The problem is that the tolerance is so unforgiving
    (a few pixels one way or the other) that is rather difficult to get and keep the mouse in exactly the right spot to invoke the sizing handle.  Because the tolerance is so narrow, by the time you click to drag, the handle control often reverts to a regular
    mouse pointer because you moved the mouse a pixel, and instead you find yourself highlighting cell content instead of dragging the column width.  And you have to keep repeating this process over and over trial-and-error fashion until you finally get the
    sizing handle to display long enough to actually invoke it when clicking.   It is rather frustrating.  My question is this:  Is there a way to increase the tolerance to invoke a sizing handle?  In other words, increase the pixel count slightly,
    either side of the line, that will invoke the control for the sizing handle?   Instead of a few pixels, to something much more realistic/functional, like maybe 5 to 7 pixels either side of the line.  This is also a problem when dealing with columns
    in Windows Explorer - you find yourself dragging a column instead of re-sizing it because by the time you click the mouse, the sizing control has reverted to a regular mouse pointer - this has long been a source of wasted time and frustration to me.  I'm
    hoping there might be a way to change this in the Windows registry.  Thank you.

    Cool article, but not relevant.
    I did not import from iPhoto nor Aperture.
    I have my photos as JPEG files in a folder on my hard drive.
    Photos, the app, did not make any duplicates. Rather, it made a giant Resources folder, almost as big as my folder of Image files.
    FInder Info confirms the size increase and lost capacity on my hard drive.
    But I appreciate the link.  That could certainly give someone the same impression.

  • Oracle, SELECT IN and PreparedStatement.setArray

    I want to execute the following query: SELECT * FROM SOMETABLE WHERE IDFIELD IN (?)
    The number of values in the IN list is variable. How can I do this with a prepared statement?
    I am aware of the different alternatives:
    1) Keep a cache of prepared statement for each sized list seen so far.
    2) Keep a cache of prepared statements for different sizes (1, 5, 10, 20) and fill in the left over parameter positions with the copies first value.
    They both have the disadvantage that there could be many prepared statements for each query that get used once, and never used again.
    I have tried this:
    stmt.execute ("CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE LONGINTLIST AS TABLE OF NUMBER(15)");
    ArrayDescriptor desc = ArrayDescriptor.createDescriptor ("LONGINTLIST", conn);
    long idValues [] = {2, 3, 4};
    oracle.sql.ARRAY paramArray = new oracle.sql.ARRAY (desc, conn, idValues);
    PreparedStatement query = conn.prepareStatement ("SELECT * FROM MYTABLE WHERE ID_FIELD IN (?)");
    query.setArray (1, paramArray);
    But Oracle gives a data conversion error.
    I then tried this:
    PreparedStatement query = conn.prepareStatement ("SELECT * FROM MYTABLE WHERE ID_FIELD IN (SELECT * FROM TABLE (?))");
    This works and the rows are returned, but the Oracle optimizer does not like it very much, since it always does a full table scan even though there is a primary key index on ID_FIELD.
    Any ideas?
    I also tried this:
    OraclePreparedStatement oraQuery = (OraclePreparedStatement) query;
    oraQuery.setARRAY (1, paramArray);
    But same behavior.
    Roger Hernandez

    Please re-read the original message. As I mentioned,
    I am aware of the two commonly used alternatives.No actually the most used alternative is to build the SQL dynamically each time.
    I know how to get both of them to work, and have used
    both alternatives in the past. The downside to both
    these approaches is that you need to save multiple
    prepared statements for each query. What I am trying
    to find is a way of having only one saved prepared
    statement for a query having a variable number of IN
    clause parameters.You could probably use a stored procedure that takes an 'array' and then do the processing in the stored proc to handle each array element.
    However, your database might not support that stored procs or arrays. Or it might not cache it with arrays. And the overhead of creating the array structure or processing it in the proc might eat any savings that you might gain (even presuming there is any savings) by using a prepared statement in the first place. Of course given that you must be using an automated profiling tool and have a loaded test environment you should be able to easily determine if this method saves time or not.
    Other than that there are no other solutions.

  • How do you make an animated gif activate when a corresponding button is selected?

    I am working on a DVD menu using Photoshop and Encore. I currently have a map as a background and a gif animation of a radar ping. The radar ping has transparent parts so that it shows up in front of the map it will be placed on. I want the radar ping gif to animate when it is selected, but I cannot make it animate. When I tried to place the animated gif into the DVD, it became a static image with 50 layers, instead of an animation with 50 frames. When I replaced the gif with a static image, it still caused problems because when I made it into one of the button's highlights, the button overlapped the other buttons, causing those to highlight as well.
    Summary: Ideally, I want to add various gifs that will activate when the corresponding menu/chapter buttons are selected.
    Failing that, I would be happy just to know how to add an animated gif to my DVD menu background.

    You have two problems. The first is that an animated gif has no special status in DVD authoring. It is an anmiation. How do you get animations into a DVD project? You import them as movies - either as assets that get puit on timelines, or assets that become part of a motion background.
    Yes, Encore has a special feature of making animated thumbnails, but this is  just a fancy way of putting thumbnail-sized bits of video into a video background of a menu.
    I think you resolve the animated gif issue if you convert it to a video format Encore understands.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/encore/using/importing-assets.html#supported_file_formats_for_impor t
    The second issue is that you want a button highlight to be an animation. Also not part of the DVD spec or what Encore will do. You can fake this, by having a button autoactivate and to go to a different menu that has the animation for that button as part of the background.  You create as many menus as you have buttons with that characteristic.
    Note that a mouseover won't autoactivate, so this doesn't work on a  computer the way solme users would like.
    Scripting is a way some authoring applications can handle such things, but Encore does not provide scripting.

  • Print Sizing and Quality Issues

    When I print PDF documents I have issues with sizing and quality. I only have this issue with my Mac. Windows prints the files as they should be. I've tried two different printers, both over network. It doesn't matter whether I am in Adobe or in a browser. Basically it oversizes the documents and cuts off the edges. The quality on images and logos is severly degraded. This probelm existed in Lion and now in Mountain Lion. Any help?

    What we need are the clip properties & sequence settings in Final Cut Express.  Your screenshot is from a Finder window.
    It would appear you have a clip with nonstandard frame size (1366x768) in an H.264 file.  FCE cannot edit this material.  FCE is limited to specific codecs and frame sizes.  You need to convert your clip to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec. If it's highdef widescreen then convert it to QT/AIC 1920x1080i.  Try using MPEG Streamclip to convert the source clip.
    You also need to be using a matching Easy Setup in Final Cut Express.  If your source media file is QT/AIC 1920x1080i then you should select the AVCHD Apple Intermediate Codec 1920x1080i60 Easy Setup in FCE -AND- then create a new sequence before importing your clip into FCE and placing it in your sequence (timeline)
