Read emails deleting themselves

I saw on the verizon help website that read emails can only be deleted when it is manually done, however my emails are deleting themselves after a certain number of days without me doing anything. Is there a way to stop the emails from deleting?
THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!

OK, that helps, now we know your environment.
Verizon's policy is to delete emails that are left in your Inbox after 30 days. Here is a link to some information from Verizon on this policy:
http://www22.verizon.com/ResidentialHelp/HighSpeed/Email/Troubleshooting/QuestionsOne/85628.htm
Now if emails are being deleted in less than 30 days, I have no idea, there are no settings in either the Basic or Rich webmail clients that will affect how long an email is kept in the Inbox.
You should be able to ensure that emails are not lost by creating additional folders (at leat one) and moving any emails you want to keep to those folders. There is a My Folders item in the list on the left side of the window with an icon you can click on to create a folder. I highly encourage you to do this, as if you create folders with meaningful names you will be able to find saved emails more easily anyway.
One more thing: if you are on a FiOS or reasonably high-speed DSL internet connection you might want to switch to the Rich client, it provides some additional function over the Basic client (but not any option about how long emails will be kept in the inbox).
And I guess I will add that if you have not already done so, you should probably choose the option in Mail under My Settings to save your sent messages.
Edit to add: another way to fix this issue would be to stop using the web interface and instead use a PC based client like Outlook Express or Windows Live Mail. those clients download the emails from the Verizon mail server to your PC and store them there, so they are then completely under your countrol, and can be accessed even when you do not have an internet connection. One down side of doing this is that those stored emails are not available if you do not have access to the PC they are stored on (although most PC clients do offer an option to leave emails on the server for a user-specified period of time).
Hope this helps.

  • ICloud emails deleting themselves...

Facebook worth $100b? This one is as mindboggling...
    Scenario:
Since I upgraded to iCloud from Mobile.me incoming emails to my me.com account are automatically deleting themselves every time mail is refreshed. Emails disappear from icloud.com, my iPad and iPhone, yet they remain in the Mail application inbox on my MacBook Pro.
    Background:
All three devices are running the latest OS.
I only have one iCloud account.
I haven't touched any settings within Mail.
I've tried deleting and reinstating the iCloud accounts on the iPad and iPhone.
I've restored data on the iPad and iPhone.
I've rebooted the iPad and iPhone.
I have been for a long walk...
There have been no changes to any settings on any devices since migrating to iCloud.
Apart from everyday rules allocating emails to various files, there are no rules set up in Mail to delete emails or similar (and nothing has been touched since migration).
Sent emails are successfully synching across all three devices.
Any ideas would be *very* welcome, cheers.
    Bill

Well, it turns out that Facebook can't sustain an initial $100b valuation after all; and maybe this problem isn't as mindboggling either...
Having tried various scenarious to see any made a difference, I found that when I quit the Mail application on the MacBook, the emails on the iPad and iPad stayed in place.
Although no new rules or filters had been put in place since migration - and none had ever been in place to delete emails - I tried removing all the rules completely.
Again, this worked, and all emails on all devices stayed in place.
However, as soon as any rule is installed, eg to put all emails sent to a certain address into a particular folder, the deleting problem starts again across the board.
I've reported the issue to Apple who have been helpful and they're investigating.
An inbox swollen with unfiltered email is far better than no email at all...

  • Emails deleting themselves on Blackberry Pearl after a few hours

I have set up an Email account on my Blackberry Pearl for a UKmail Exchange email account so I can see my emails on my Blackberry. However after a few hours the incoming emails are deleting themselves only leaving the sent emails. Emails are deleting themselves before I can see them.
I've looked in Email Settings but there doesn't seem to be anything I can do to stop them. Has anyone had the same problem?

Check and see if your WiFi is on. I had (have) the same problem when I leave it on and go to work. The phone constantly searches for WiFi and the battery at a record pace. I turn it on only when I am at home or where I can access WiFi, other times I leave it off.
I also hear the Ebay app is a huge drain.
I also limited the home pages, I had over twelve that i think were constantly updating. I limited it to one.
Maybe one or all of these will help.
    Regards.
It's always funny when it's someone else.

  • Synk email btw Iphone/Mac showing read emails/deleting

I have recently started using iCloud. I changed to Imap from Pop and now I get all emails to both devices. My problem is that all the emails I get into my Iphone remain marked as "unread" until I open each email there, even if they are read on my Mac. The same if I delete an email, it doesn't get deleted on the other device. Any suggestions appreciated!

I was able to contact a company that has a similar app as ierase.  Now I understand the issue.  These programs do overwrite "free space."  But, WITHIN various apps, including email, there are files that basically point you to the data by saving a line or two (in the case of emails) in the application itself.  This is called a "cache." These files live in the apps, not the free space.   It's important because that's how computers know how to "remember" stuff for you so you can search, etc.    BIG BUT:  iPhone does not allow you to remove the cache or specific items from it.  Android phones seem to have this setting.  Your computer has this capability.  But your iphone does not.  The only way to remove information from the cache is to do a complete restore and not back up with iTunes.  Puleese tell me if I'm wrong.
Think of it as a file cabinet.  The top drawer has the operating system files that don't get touched unless there is an update of the operating system, e.g. to 5.1.1.  The second drawer contains all your applications, with subfolders for each one.  The subfolders contain a whole lotta flags (often called placeholders).  These flags say: go to file drawer 3 and look up such and such.  File drawer 3 i is your free space where all the stuff you do is stored.  If you go to file drawer 2 and remove the flags, the system doesn't where to look for stuff in file drawer 3. You can add and remove files from drawer 3, or zero out the data, but the flags are still hanging around in drawer 2.  You get my drift. I'm so right brained...
This is my basic understanding of why this problem is so widespread.  It would be nice if Apple could allow cache editing.

Why would my email program accidentally delete my emails from ON MY MAC section, as well as the rest of my emails.  I know there still on my mac somewhere, but why isn't in my email program.
It has completly deleted my two inboxes.  Also all my stored emails in my ON MY MAC section of my folders.  HELP

  • I have an iPod touch and it's connected to my email account. Recently it has been frozen meaning I can't do anything on it (read emails, delete emails). How do I fix this problem?

Does anyone know how to fix my problem so I can do stuff with my email?
    Thank you so much

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • My emails keep deleting themselves on iPad air

    Hi
My emails delete themselves and I cannot find them in any folders

What email service are them from?  Yahoo?  gmail?  icloud?  ???  Are you sure the service is an IMAP service. If so, when you delete an email on one device, it deletes from all devices.  Or.. do you have a rule defined that deletes emails given a criteria?

  • Bought an ipad mini and my emails keep deleting themselves. They're there one second and gone the next

Bought an ipad mini and my emails keep deleting themselves. They're there one second and gone the next.....any suggestions?

The official return policy of the Apple Store for anything other than an iPhone is fourteen days, not 30 days. Any return of an iPad beyond fourteen days, even if a new model is released, would be an exception, not policy.
    Regards.

I have a  macbook, an ipad, and an iphone with the Mail app on all three synced through icloud, but when I read and delete emails on my phone, the inbox on my ipad is not update, so I have to go through and mark as read or delete messages again. How can I sync my iphone and ipad? (it seems like each is synced only to my laptop, so don't synchronize until I go home and use my laptop.

POP: yahoo, aol, comcast/time warnder/road runner
Imap: google, hotmail, and more including icloud.
If you want to use multiple devices - move to imap, I would even say "exchange", but Google does not support free exchange anymore, since January of that year. So Ironically  Icloud or Hotmail would be my choices right now.
To find out more about what happens to you, search on Google "difference between pop and imap"

  • Email deletion and read/un read syncing

Is there a way to make the messages I read or delete on my iPhone do the same in mail on my mac and the other way around? I use my iPhone to answer and read a lot of my mail but I notice it just keeps piling up in my mail app on my laptop.

I'm a big fan of the disposible email addresses (use them all the time instead of my primary address), but I've just discovered that if I reply to a read receipt request, then my primary email address is shown in the receipt instead of the disposible address used!?!
I thought the whole point of the disposible address was to protect your primary address from hackers, spammers, etc.
This seems a bit stupid for BT to do this! Can you fix this flaw, so that the address shown in the recipt is the disposible one used please!
I did some tests. Sending the 'read receipt' does indeed expose the linked address. So do not send the 'read receipt'!
However, requesting a 'delivery receipt' for email sent to a disposable address also exposes the main address! And you would not even know it!!
Defeats the purpose of disposable email addresses.

  • How do I sink my email so that when I read and delete something on my iPhone it automatically is deleted on my iPad and iMac?

How do I sink my email so that when I read and delete something on my iPhone it is deleted on my other devices (iMac & iPad)?  My email is through roadrunner.  And how do I set my email to automatically delete messages after a set time frame?

For that to happen you need to have an IMAP email account. Contact Sroadrunner to see if they provide such.

  • Exchange email received but not marked as read or deleted

I have an iPhone4 with iOS 4.1 (8B117) and an Exchange email account through my work. The Exchange server is Exchange2007, SP1, Rollup 7. This worked fine until recently. When I read or delete my email on my desktop client it doesn't sync the new status to the phone. New mail is received on the device so I see it. What happens is that the number of unread messages keeps increasing on the phone until I manually go through and read/delete them on the phone.
Company support says there isn't any setting to modify on the Exchange server, the only setting is whether the account is enabled for ActiveSync (it is). I have deleted all email accounts on the phone and then setup the Exchange account only, when it is sync'd the first time the same number of unread messages appear that were there prior to deleting the account.
I'd appreciate any assistance I can get for this. Thanks in advance.

I believe I have found the solution to this so I wanted to post an update. I was working with my company's messaging team and I asked them to disable my ActiveSync account and then enable it again. When they disabled it they noticed that I had 2 devices available in the configuration. The only thing I can think of is that my iPhone 3G and 4 had been setup as different devices. He disabled the ActiveSync config, I deleted my email account on the phone and then powered the phone off. He setup my ActiveSync and I re-added the email account to the iPhone. It now works as it should, problem solved.

  • IOS 7 randomly deletes sent emails and imports read email

    Hi all,
I have updated my iphone 5 3GS to the latest version of ios 7 and it seems to randomly wipe all my sent emails and then downloads all the emails that I have previously read and deleted.
Anyone else had this and has any solutions- it's incredibly annoying as I sometimes need to refer to sent emails and no longer have them on my phone.
Thanks in advance for any ideas!
    G

If this email account is Hotmail:
Hotmail has used POP for emails in the past and this does not sync if messages are read or not. This is an old standard and shouldn't be used any more.
You can now use Exchange or IMAP for hotmail and this should mark them as read and stop this from happening again. Add a new mail account on your iPhone, and select Exchange instead of Hotmail/Outlook.com and sign in with your hotmail details. You may need to change the Mail Days to Sync options after you set it up to get all your emails back. Your hotmail account may also have put all your emails into a POP folder. Sign in to hotmail on a computer and move all the emails in that folder back into your inbox.
If exchange does not work, you can try using IMAP, the details are
    Incoming Mail Server IMAPServer: imap-mail.outlook.com
    Outgoing Mail Server SMTPServer: smtp-mail.outlook.com
To add the account, select other when you add a new mail account, and put in a nonsense email address for example "[email protected]" to avoid the mail app automatically setting up the account for you.
Then select IMAP and input the proper details. your username is your hotmail address.
If this email account is something other than Hotmail:
It sounds like your email account is using POP which does not sync if messages are read or not, try to find out if your email account supports IMAP and enter those details like i explain in the bottom part of the hotmail explanation.

  • How do I stop emails coming through to my mac after I have already read and deleted them on my iPhone?

I want to set up my mac so that once the emails from hotmail have been received, read AND deleted on my iPhone, they don't pop up on my macbook when I get home (and visa-versa if I were to receive the emails on my mac first). Can anyone help, please?

There's SO much to learn from the manual. This tip helped. And since this was an older message, I should say that I have a 5c iPhone now, but the messages here still apply. I didn't realize you could turn it off without deleting the account.
Until there's a time when you don't have to mark every single message, one at a time to delete them, instead of a "delete all" or some similar command, then I've turned my mail off on both my iPad and iPhone. I only check mail on those when I'm on vacation and away from my home computer, and I've learned what a mess it was with hundreds of messages being downloaded. Apple has to do better with that delete message function. One at a time seems primitive. Otherwise, I'd leave the Mail App on.

Over the last couple of weeks, all my received emails have started deleting themselves. All the emails I had prior to this happening have also been deleted. If I send myself an email, it'll appear on my BB and then delete itself after about 30 - 45 minutes. If I send email from my BB, the sent message will stay there. It's only received emails that are deleted.
This only started happening recently and prior to that there were no issues. I haven't changed any email settings. This happens regardless of whether or not Outlook is running or not.

    Hi,
Please post the HP product number for your PC. How to Find the HP Model Number and the HP Product Number or let HP automatically find your PC model number and HP network attached printers. This will allow others to review your issue, make suggestions and review your responses. This is usually the best way to get assistance.
If you search the Internet you will find numerous posts and suggestions that describe your situation with many, many different suggestions and possible solutions.  You will find pages and pages of suggestions that may or may not solve your problem. There isn't any one time cure all suggestion based on your symptom description.   You might want to try a few suggestions and see if you get lucky.
You may need to separate the "wheat from the chaff"  (hardware issues from software issues) or you might be chasing the issue for many, many hours.
I have seen hardware failures produce similar issues.  You might try running diagnostics for 1-2 hours and see if the diagnostics will detect an issue.  Even hardware diagnostics are not a cure all solution for possible hardware issues.
If you can roll your PC back to a known good Windows restore point before the issue started then give that a try.  Otherwise back up your data to external media and use the external HP recovery media to bring your PC back to a factory day one condition. Then without loading a lot of software add ons, try some multiple browsing for the time period that the issue typically occurs.
    Post your results.
