Reading to a certain point in a txt file
I am trying to read to a certain point in a txt file. I want it to read until it reaches say password, then check to see if the text is the same as say "bob" an dif not go on to the next password. This is what i have so far:
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import javax.swing.*;
import java.io.*;
public class Read extends JFrame implements ActionListener {
private JButton act;
private JTextArea show;
public Read() {
setSize(new Dimension(300, 300));
act = new JButton("GO");
act.addActionListener(this);
show = new JTextArea("push the button");
JPanel pane = new JPanel(new GridLayout(0, 1));
getContentPane().add(act, BorderLayout.NORTH);
getContentPane().add(show);
public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
try {
BufferedReader reading = new BufferedReader(new FileReader("dat.u.txt"));
String file;
while ((file = reading.readLine()) != null) {
show.setText("");
show.append(file + " finished append");
catch (FileNotFoundException ioe) {
show.setText("error finding the file name");
catch (IOException ioe) {
show.setText("IO Error");
public static void main (String args[]) {
new Read().setVisible(true);
}P.S I gave this is just a test file to test. I also gave examples at the top. Thanx for the help!!What are you doing with file everytime it reads a line? Displaying it in the JTextArea. You do no checking to see if the line read contains what you are looking for.
if(file contains what I am looking for) {
//process file
break;
}BTW, if it is a password you are searching for, displaying it in a text area for all the world to see is not a good idea. -
How to read the last line in a txt file?
Dear all,
I want to read the last line in a txt file. There are thousands of lines in this file. What I want is to move the file pointer directly to the last line of the file. But I did not know how do to it. Can anybody help me out?

Duplex printing switches to single page at a certain point in pdf file
Hi everyone,
I have combined about ten separate pdf files into one complete pdf file for a client. The problem is that when they print the file using duplex printing, they're saying that at a particular point in the document it switches to single page printing instead of duplexing all the way through. It seems to be switching to this single page printing at the start of a particular section, ie. I mentioned that I had combined separate pdf files into the one document and it switches to the single pages where one of these separate documents start. I went back to the original Indesign file relating to this document and noticed that when I pdf this I can see the following in the range field that I assume is related to section numbering as the document contains sections:
Range: +1-+12
The other pdfs that were used to create the combined file also have sections but the abovementioned numbering doesn't appear in the Range section like the problematic pdf I mentioned above.
Can someone tell me why the duplexing stops at this certain point? Does it have something to do with the section numbering as explained above? Also, I have tried to reproduce the issue from my end but mine is printing it perfectly well, i.e it duplexes all the way through, so could it be an issue with their printer or some setting they have? Or can I fix it somehow from my end by manipulating the original indesign file that has the sections?
Really appreciate any help.It's probably on their Printer setup. Sometimes if you set print for duplex then another Operator comes in and uses the same printer and assumes it's simplex printing it can print duplex or whatever the previous print setting was used.

public void setPurchaseDate (int d, int m, int y)
new Date(d,m,y);
And this is the code that I have tried using to readin the date:

How to read the second line in a .txt file with bufferedReader?
hi,
i am not the best in speaking english and programming java :)
so, just try to make sense of my question:
Im using a BufferedReader to read a .txt file.
the .txt file has 5+ different lines, and each line has 6 tokens (separated with ; )
My java file has 6 textFields and each textfield is filled with one of the 6 different tokens.
and my problem is:
I want my buffered reader to read the next line (with 6 new different tokens) by pressing a button.
if somethings not understandable, just ask :)maybe its easier to help me, when i publish my code, so here it is:

Read at each new line from .txt file
Hi guys

At some later time I want to read 128 bytes from that text file do some processing and display it. The "read from text file" vi has convert EOL but I am not able to configure it. Please help me..
Thanks in advance
NiladriHi Newbee_3,
Do 1 thing, Read the txt file & convert this into string, Then you have all the flexibility to do whatever you want.
Thanks
Kudos are always welcome if you got solution to some extent.

Reading Last line(record) from a txt file ina java
Hi,
I want to retrive the last line from a txt file.Can anybody help me??
Thanx in advanceIn order to read the last line you must read all the lines before it. To read lines you can use the BufferedReader and LineNumberReader classes.
Here's an example of how to read lines of text from a file:

Buenos días - Good morning
Mi pregunta la escribiré en español y en ingles y espero alguien tenga la solución.
I'll write my question in Spanish and English and I hope someone has the solution.

the information of each line of text that would be 10 last, the problem that I have is that the number of files and information within files significantly increases every day and having the loop that reads each line of each text file is delayed Macro increasingly
as more information and consume more and more memory on the machine.
I Need a different method not read line by line and I can tell you read the line (row) number 1000 (example) and capture the information from there to save some time or know how many lines of text have the file .txt and tell me read from (total number of lines
of txt - (minus) 10 lines) so I would read 10 last.
Here is the code I currently use

First thank you so much for your answer, sorry for my english in the question, I tried for a long time to make a code that wasn't so slow to read the last 10 lines, 'cuz most codes used a cycle "For" to read line by line asking if in the specific
position is the character(number) that tells me that i should get started to read the last lines that i need, that takes a lot longer than your code doing a Split with Mydata and storing it in strData(). I don't know how to do this and every forum that
i consulted to read the last 10 lines quickly they made the same read line by line with a Cycle "for".
Thanks again, I gonna improve my code with your help, 'cuz it took about 4 hours to read all the information and everyday ascended more time and memory consumption.
Thanks to everyone who offered their help so disinterested and free, so should always be people with that spirit, I hope someday to be SO good as you programming. -
How to read from a certain location is a file?
hi! i am new to programing and i have a problems abt reading from a file. i have write the following to a file using FmtFile :
10 (a numbers)
name,phone,product (some strings)
9 (a numbers)
when i user ScanFile to read the second number(9 in the above example), i got a wrong value. the command i use is:
ScanFile (filehandle, "%d", &number1);
ScanFile (filehandle, "%s[t44]%s[t44]%s",name, phone product);
ScanFile (filehandle, "%d", &number2);
number1 and number 2 are integers and name, phone and product are char arrays.
can anyone tell me where have i gone wrong? or maybe someone can tell me how can i read the 2nd number without reading the 1st number
and the strings.Let's look at your file: if I correctly interpret your question, one row in it should like like this:
10,name,phone,product,9
In this case you could use the following formatting string to read all data from the string:
"%d[x]%s[xt44]%s[xt44]%s[xt44]%d"
[x] means to discard terminator, in order to read from strings, for example, "name" and not "name,". It's important in this case to put ALL field separators.
Maybe your problem is that in the file you don't have separators between strings and numbers: in this case the last "%s" should read the '9' inside the last string and the subsequent "%d" matches with incorrect area in the file (end-of-line or next row).
Hope this help
Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

Payslip Programme unable to read beyond a certain Point(points guaranteed)
Hi
My client is unable to get the payslip for employees beyond a certain period.I have used Transaction SARA and PC_PAYRESULT but still unable to find out the real reason.My questions:
i.How do I find out till how much the data is archived?
ii.Is the payslip programme RPCETD00 unable to read the arcfived data?
iii.Can archived data be read from the clusters?
Thanks and Regards
Aniket CHallo Aniket,
My experience is that you can read archived data from transaction pc_payresult
Also H99CWTR0 report can retrieve archived data.
However, I am looking for a payslip report that can retrieve archived data. I have not found it yet.

[CS3 JS] Reading TXT file content into String
Hello,
I'm currently wanting to display a dialog box that has a dropdown menu containing all countries of the world.
I have an external txt file that contains a list of all countries.
I thought I would simply read-in the contents of the 'txt' file into a string and use it for displaying the list.
For example
i Instead of the usual:
> var myLandMenu = dropdowns.add({stringList:["A", "B"...], selectedIndex:0});
i I thought of doing something like:
> var myLandList = ....? HELP ?....
> var myLandMenu = dropdowns.add({stringList:myLandList, selectedIndex:0});
Is this the way to do it?
What would be the way to read in the text file content as a string?
Thanks in advance,
Lee> var myLandList = ....? HELP ?....
> var myLandMenu = dropdowns.add({stringList:myLandList, selectedIndex:0});
It's hard to tell from context, but myLandList needs to be an array of strings.
If the file has one element per line, this would be one way of handling the
conversion:
var file = File("~/countries.txt");
file.open("r");
var str = file.read();
file.close();
var myLandList = str.split(/[\r\n]+/);
And assuming that this is ScriptUI and not the older ID UI, the menu creation
would look more like:
var myLandMenu = dropdowns.add(bounds, myLandList);
myLandMenu.items[0].selected = true;
