I can't seem to sync my iPhone to my computer; I keep getting this message:  "iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because an error occurred while reading from this device."  I get the same message with my iPad, even though they all share the same account.  What can I do?

This could be caused by a USB connection issue. Make sure the iPhone is directly connected to the Mac using the USB cable it came with. Also, try disconnecting all other USB devices.
If you haven't already try resetting the iPhone by holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see an Apple logo as described here:http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305743

  • "An error occured while reading from this device"

"An error occured while reading from this device" is the message I get whenever I try to sync my iPad to iTunes.
The only way I can sync is to do a restore and then put everything back on it.
    Can anybody help?

    Make sure you also unisntall
    Bonjour,
    Apple Mobile Device Service,
    Quicktime
and there's a couple of others. there are Apple support articles, but I'm sorry I don't have the articles linked. Also ensure you reboot after all of the uninstalls and reboot you iPad as well. This all fixed my laptop, but as I said, my desktop PC is still acting funny.
As your laptop seems older, and the MB link is suspected on a particular group of newer motherboards, so I doubt your laptop motherboard is the common link.
You might want to double check that its USB2 ports.

  • I am trying to sync iphone 5 to itunes but it says "iTunes could not connect to the iphone as an error occured while reading from the device " and the iphone is not seen on itunes........

i am trying to sync iphone 5 to itunes but it says "iTunes could not connect to the iphone as an error occured while reading from the device " and the iphone is not seen on itunes........

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. And then reboot your computer.
See if that fixes your problem.

  • Why can't I read from a device on my RS232 port

I am attempting to write and read from a device on my computer's RS232 port.  I attempted to use the Basic Serial Write & Read.vi example in 6.1 with no luck(I have also attempted to use the other serial examples with no luck).  My application attempts to write a command to this device on the RS232 port and then read the response back from the device.  Everytime I run the vi I receive a timeout error. It seems the timeout is occuring during the read portion.   I have used another application(MTTTY) to send and recieve RS232 messages back and forth to this device, so I know the port and device are working.  I have entered the same port settings I am using in the MTTTY application into the vi still with no success.  One more thing, after I run the Basic Serial Write & Read.vi example, my other application can no longer read & write successfully to the device on the port.  I need to power cycle my device before my MTTTY application will again be able to communicate successfully.  Anyone have any ideas on what is going on?

I'm not familiar with the MTTY program but your problem is extremely common and usually the result of not sending a termination character at the end of the command string. Most serial instrument require this and it's usually a carriage return or line feed character. In the LabVIEW example, right click the string control where you are entering your command and select '\' Codes Display. Type a \r (carriage return) or \n (line feed) or a combination of both, at the end of the command. Your instrument manual should tell you exactly what is required.

  • Whenever i try and download itunes it says it cannot read from specified device, what can I do?

Whenever I try to download itunes it says it cannot read from specified device, what do I do?

Honestly, these are WAGs but they're all that I can think of.
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • Can I use "SerialDemo" or "BlackBox" to read data from hardware device?

    Hi All,
I want read data comm port which is been connected with hardware device(weight reader). Can I use "SerialDemo" or "BlackBox" sample programs provided with javax.comm package?
If yes do I need to do any modification in program as per my hardware device?
    Please help
    Thanks in advance to all

You'll need to know what data is being sent from the device, and the example code SHOULD NOT be used.
It is only to show you HOW to do it.
Following the example code, build an application that reads from that port. Read the information from the manufacturer's website to get the details about the format of the data sent.

  • Having trouble opening connections and reading from Bluetooth devices.

    Hello,
As the title states, I am having trouble opening connections and reading data from a Bluetooth device. We are using a PDA to communicate with LabVIEW. First, the Bluetooth Open Connection VI displays a timeout error half of the time. Second, when it does open, it does not read what the PDA is sending. Third, if it does allow an open connection, it will not do it a second time unless the devices are turned off.
I also have another related question. I am using a Linksys Bluetooth USB adapter, and the driver is proprietary. Labview requires the use of a Microsoft driver, and we are having problems going back and forth between the drivers. What Bluetooth receiver would you suggest using? The reason I ask is the fact that you have Bluetooth examples of client VI's. Therefore, you must use a similar device. Thank you for your time.
    -Jon

    Hi Jon,
I'm not sure what Bluetooth receivers were used to verify the functionality of the VIs. However, I still want to help you solve your issue. Please make sure that you are running the shipping examples and let me know what version of LabVIEW, what PC OS and what PDA OS you are using. Does the Microsoft driver work for your Bluetooth receiver if you uninstall the Linksys driver?
With your answers I'll do my best to help you out.

  • Mac Mail IMAP shows read message when already read from other devices

Mac Mail IMAP is setup on custom domain ([email protected]).  When I open an email message through my iphone it shows it was read.  Then when I go into the mail app on my iMac, it shows the message is unread.  It still shows unread hours later and even when I click the "Get Mail" button
How do I make it so that Mac mail syncs when I check mail through other devices?
    Thank you

Open Terminal in Utilties and copy/paste
This will send the attachment embedded inline. (This works in Snow Leopard, but not sure about Lion. Do a test first. If it doesn't work, just google "send attachment embedded + Lion." You don't actually have to send the message to see how it will appear.)
    defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing 0
To reverse the setting, change the 0 to a 1
However, whether this will work or not will depend on what the e-mail client on the receiver's end does with it.

  • Error while reading from device

I just upgraded from a 3gs to the iPhone 4 32GB. I upgraded to the newest iTunes. The phone is still using iOS 4.0.
When syncing large movies that worked fine on the 3gs, I get the message "Attempting to copy to the "my phone name" failed. An error occured while reading from the device.
Everything else synced fine, and some small homemade movies synced fine. Just the 2 that I had installed from "data discs" I got with DVDs won't sync. They play fine in iTunes.
    Any thoughts????
    Gene

Problem solved... after reading around on the Internet I tried some ideas. The one that fixed the problem was the fact that I had a 6 foot usb extension cable on my system (not front facing usb ports). I plugged the iPhone data cable directly into the back of the PC and it fixed the issue.
    Thanks
    Gene
