Real-world experience with Exchange 2010 SP3 RU5+ and Powershell 4?

The support-ability matrix for Exchange (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff728623(v=exchg.150).aspx) says Exchange
2010 SP3 RU5+ and Powershell 4 are compatible.  But, there is very little actual discussion about how well that works.
I use Powershell extensively for mission critical and somewhat complex processes, with Exchange 2010 on 2008 R2 and AD access/reads/updates.
Can I get a summary of the caveats and benefits from someone who has actually done this in a
real-world/production scenario (more than one server, managing from a separate non-Exchange server), and who has scripting experience with this configuration?
Also, how has this affected EMC operations?
As always thank you in advance!

I believe the matrix states that its supported to install Exchange into an environment where __ version of WMF is present.  Exchange 2010, launched from a Win 2012 server, reports version 2.0 when you call $host.  For example, calling the ActiveDirectory
module from EMS on an Win 2012 server (ps 3.0) fails.
I'll double check the extent of this scenario and get back to you.

  • SME 7.1 not working with Exchange 2010 SP3 UR8v2 and OnTap 8.2.3 7mode

Followed IMT and installed software that NetApp said would work.Ontap 8.2.3 7-modevmWare 5.0 SP3Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1Exchange 2010 SP3 UR8v2NetApp Host Tools 6.0.2SnapDrive 7.1.1SME 7.1 Everything connects fine.  SnapDrive sees my drives.  SME connects to Exchange Server.  However in the process of configuring SME, I get the following error.  I have followed knowledge base article and increased the timeout of DFM connection in registry, but that has not solved the problem.  Has anyone run into this before?  SME 6.1 works fine, but is not compatible with SnapDrive 7.1.1 (causes verifications to fail because server can't mount clone) and lower SnapDrive versions are not compatible with Ontap 8.2.3.  I am in a real bind here. Thanks in advance.

the following configuration for SME 7.1 is no longer supported: Windows Server 2008 R2Exchange 2010 SP3 RU1 – RU5WMF/PowerShell 3.0SME 7.1 The supported configuration will now be: Windows Server 2008 R2Exchange 2010 SP3 RU5WMF/PowerShell 4.0SME 7.1 this is because Microsoft does not support WMF 3.0 on Server 2008 R2 running Exchange 2010 SP3, with any RU version.SME 7.1 requires a minimum of PowerShell 3.0 (part of WMF 3.0) in order to run. Feel free to review the Exchange Server Supportability Matrix located here: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff728623%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx. All existing documentation (ISG, Admin Guide, IMT) will be updated shortly to reflect this change in requirements. hope that helps,Domenico.

  • Exchange 2010 SP3 RU5 on 2012 r2 - yei or nei

    Guys, one question:
    On this link:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff728623(v=exchg.150).aspx
I see that Exchange 2010 SP3 with RU5 is not supported on 2012 r2 and is only supported on 2012 server.
One dumb question: But what if you have 2012 r2 domain controller, can you put exchange 2010 sp3 ru5 there?
    bostjanc

Ok, but even if that worked for you it doesn't mean that it is supported (because its not) and it wouldn't be a good idea to put that server in production. If your plan is to stay on Exchange 2010, then you should install it on a supported OS.

  • Anyone have some real-world experience with clustering and RMI?

We are getting ready to do some stress testing on a clustered WLS RMI
environment. Does anyone have any real world experience with this type
of environment. I'm looking for information related to performance
(transactions per second), how does it scale as you add new instances
(does it get to a point where another instance actually degrades
performance), how easy is it to administer the cluster?
Any input would be greatly appreciated,
              thanks,

  • Exchange 2010 SP3 RU5 automapping issue - fixed in later RU?

    Current Level: Exchange 2010 SP3 RU1
I'm planning on updating to RU8v2 but discovered
this thread indicating issues with RU5 + automapping + Office 2010 SP1.  I couldn't find anyone reporting that the later RUs introduced the same issue or fixed it.  So I'm just looking for anyone that may have experience with updating
past RU5 and still running Outlook 2010 SP1, did you see the same behavior with automapped mailboxes?

That should have been done last October

  • Exchange 2013 Sp1 Coexistence with Exchange 2010 SP3 CU5 HTTP 500

I`m trying to make working OWA coexistence between Exchange 2013 SP1 and Exchange 2010 SP3 CU5.
When user login in to OWA where his mailbox is located  on Exchange 2013 server it logon successful and owa opened. When i try to login to the same url with user whose mailbox is located on Exchange 2010 server  i get Error http 50
The website cannot display the page :   HTTP 500   »https://URLEXCHANGE2013/owa/auth.owa«
The same is, when i use https:// URLEXCHANGE2013/ecp?ExchClientVer=14
URL on Exchange 2013 are different  as fro Exchange 2010.
I even tried to setup Internal URL for Exchange 2010 to bi set to »null ,Saem error
Exchange server 2013 Sp1 is installed on Windows server 2012 R2.

Assumption  is correct. I have even  enable verbose logging, and i can see MSExchange Front End HTTP Proxy , that successfully connect to Exchange 2010 server.
But remember Exchange 2013 is fresh installation on  Windows server 2012 R2.

  • Exchange 2010 SP3 RU5 installation hangs on "Copying new files"

    Dear forum,
I meet an issue installing the rollup 5 of Exchange 2010 SP3 on a HUB server with WS 2008 R2.
After launching the install from an elevated command prompt,  and after the setup stops and disables some services, it starts "Copying new files" and then hangs. Nothing in the events logs, no popup message.
I let it alone for more than an hour but nothing happens.
Launching it with /log returns this line at the end:
"InstallFiles: File: Copying new files,  Directory: ,  Size: "
Do you have already meet this issue or do you have any idea about the cause?
    Thanks for your help.

You'll find below the errors found in the rollup setup log:

  • Problem with Exchange 2010 scripts after installing PowerShell 4.0

    Hi
After installing new updates for MS Exchange 2010 and PowerShell 4.0 I've got problems with PS scripts using buil-in
    exchange commands.
I wrote interactive script for searching e-mails. Here is a pice of code where I get error after installing PS v4.

After installing PowerShell 4.0 I get that bug and report in TargetMailbox is not genereated.
    The property keyword isn't supported.

    But http://blogs.msdn.com/b/powershell/archive/2013/10/25/windows-management-framework-4-0-is-now-available.aspx is dated
October 2013, while the current Windows Management Framework 4.0 System Requirements section states:
Servers that are running the following applications can now run WMF 4.0. The versions listed are the minimum releases required to run WMF 4.0.
Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 Service Pack 1
Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 SP3 with Update Rollup 5
    Since
Update Rollup 5 For Exchange 2010 SP3 (KB2917508) was published Febrary 2014, shouldn't Exchange 2010 now be compatible with PowerShell 4.0?

  • Setup /m:RecoverServer with exchange 2010 sp3

Hi. i need to recover hub and cass server for exchange server 2010 SP3 organization.
but when i try to run this command, i receive this error:
"Exchange Server 2010 build 14.3.123.4 or later must be used to perform a recovery of this server."
So.. i need to run this command from the exchange server 2010 sp3 iso?
    i think that not exists.
    Any other idea?
    thanks.

    Hi,
You can download the full installation file of Exchange that matches with the current version of Exchange you installed and run recovery. The recovery needs to be the same version as was previously used.

  • Exchange 2010 SP3, RU5 - Massive Transaction Log File Generation

    Hey All,
I am trying to figure out why 1 of our databases is generating 30k Log Files a day! The other one is generating 20K log files a day. The database does not grow in size as the log files are generated, the problem is log file generation.
I've tried running through some of the various solutions out there, reviewed message tracking logs, rpc client access logs, IIS Logs - all of which show important info, but none of which actually provide the answers.
I Stopped the following services to see if that would affect the log file generation in any way, and it has not!
    MS Exchange Transport
    Mail Submission
    IIS (Site Stopped in IIS)
    Mailbox Assistants
    Content Indexing Service
With the above services stopped, I still see dozens (or more) log files generated in under 10 minutes, I also checked mailbox size reports (top 10) and found that several users mailboxes were generating item count increases for one user of
about 300, size increases for one user of about 150Mb (over the whole day).
I am not sure what else to check here? Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Robert
    Robert

Hmm - this sounds like an device is chewing up the logs.
If you use log parser studio, are there any stand out devices in terms of the # of hits?
And for the ExMon was that logged over a period of time?  The default 60 second window normally misses a lof of stuff.  Just curious!

    Rhoerick,
Thanks for the response. When checking the logs the highest number of hits were the (Source) Load Balancers, Port 25 VIP. The problem i was experience was the following:
    1) I kept expecting the log file generation to drop to an acceptable rate of 10~20 MB Per Minute (Max). We have a large environment and use the exchange sevrers as the mail relays for the hated Nagios monitoring environment
    2) We didn't have our enterprise monitoring system watching SMTP traffic, this is  being resolved.
    3) I needed to look closer at the SMTP transport database counters, logs, log files and focus less on the database log generation, i did do some of that but not enough of that.
    4) My troubleshooting kept getting thrown off due to the monitoring notifications seeming to be sent out in batches (or something similar) stopping the transport service for 10 ~ 15 minutes several times seemed to finally "stop the transactions logs
from growing at a psychotic rate".
    5) I am re-running my data captures now that i have told the "Nagios Team" to quit killing the exchange servers, with their notifications, sometimes as much as 100+ of the same notifications for the same servers, issues. so far at a quick glance
the log file generation seems to have dropped by about 30%.
Question: What would be the best counters to review in order to "Put it all together"? Also note: our Server roles are split, MBX and CAS/HT.

  • Cannot send email via ActiveSync when user connect from Internet (Exchange 2010 SP3 RU5)

    Hi All.
This is the first time I encounter this kind of issue, whenever user connect from the internet they cannot send email from their Phone or Windows Mail App, but they can retrieve email
But when they connect from Internal Network they can send email. I already test ActiveSync from internet using www.testexchangeconnectivity.com and it pass all tests.
I also check the Firewall and all the necessary ports already opened (we even open all ports) , the default TTL on the firewall 3600 second.
From what I read ActiveSync use some kind of HTTP POST or in MS terminology "PING" command, but still have no idea what kind of configuration that should be made to the Firewall so it can pass this "PING" command. Because from what I
see in Android Logcat the problem always related to this PING command

    Hi ronaldosy,
How about the work flow of Outlook or OWA on PC internally/externally?

  • MailBox Move Error With Exchange 2010 sp3

I initiated a mailbox move for a specific mailbox and let it run all night. The next day, the user stated he cannot log into is mailbox and the error stated "mailbox is moving, check back later".
Exchange stated the status of the move is "CompletedWithError". I noticed that the mailbox is still in the old database.
I tried to remove the move request and received an error "couldn't find a move request that corresponds to this identity".
    I rebooted the exchange server.
Exchange still shows the user in the old database
There is no move requests in exchange
The user is still experiencing the same error "You weren't able ti sign in because the mailbox is being move"
I tried to initiated another move and received:
    Summary: 1 item(s). 0 succeeded, 1 failed.
    Elapsed time: 00:00:00

    Failed
    Error:
Couldn't switch the mailbox into Sync Source mode.
This could be because of one of the following reasons:
Another administrator is currently moving the mailbox.
      The mailbox is locked.
The Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Replication service (MRS) doesn't have the correct permissions.
Network errors are preventing MRS from cleanly closing its session with the Mailbox server. If this is the case, MRS may continue to encounter this error for up to 2 hours - this duration is controlled by the TCP KeepAlive settings on the Mailbox server.
Wait for the mailbox to be released before attempting to move this mailbox again.

    Hi Cudflyn,
Base on my search, you can try to increase the TCP Keep Alive Time for the servers involved in the move. You can refer to the following
    article to increase it:
Mailbox Move Error - 'Couldn't switch the mailbox into Sync Source mode'
Note: Just REMEMBER to DELETE the registry entry when the mailbox moves are compete!

they are talking there about a workarround to delete the problematic "thumbstone data". but how to find and identiy them before deletion ?
"To work around this issue, use the MFCMAPI tool to remove the corrupted tombstone data."
    thanks for feedback,
    best,

    Hello Martin,
I have a user who is having this exact same issue. I know this thread is a few months old, did you ever find an answer to where the corrupted tombstone data was located at?

I'm already using BadItemLimit of 50. The largest corrupt message that was skipped is 10.

  • Exchange 2010 SP3 - "500 5.3.3 Unrecognized command" in SMTP Receive Log. Senders get message with the same problem

    Hi
My exchange environment consist with "Server Exchange 2010 SP3" and "Edge Server with Exchange 2010 SP3".
On Edge server in SMTP receive log i get every now and then an entry: xxxxxx 500 5.3.3 Unrecognized command.
It is serius problem because I got few e-mails from senders that they had problem with sending e-mail messages to our e-mail domain. They receive e-mail report, for example
    Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the server for the recipient domain domena.plby
    mail.domena.pl.
    [95.xxx.xxx.xx].
The error that the other server returned was:
    500 5.3.3 Unrecognized command
Could you help me to solve this problem? What could cause this problem?
    Thank you in advance
    Tomasz
    Kind Regards Tomasz

I have the same issue, but there is plenty of hard disk storage on the Exchange Server. This seems to only be happening from Google Business account/ Postini. If I send message from my personal Gmail account it works fine, but an agency who is on Google
business seems to have issues sending to us and they are delayed, sometimes they get through and other times they just don't.
    Results from Mail Acceptance Test:
I enter my internal address and the remote users postini account as the test setup I received two emails from the tool but the end results of the test are:
     Error submitting mail
Mail submission failed: Error message: Syntax error, command unrecognized. The server response was: 5.3.3 Unrecognized command.
    Google support stated this:

As you can see, on line 9, at 03:26:35, we declared to the receiving server what we were about to send. At the line number 10, almost two minutes passed without an authorization (250 OK) from the receiving server. You can see our status being pushed back
at that moment to the receiving mail server: SMTP:Delivery still in progress after 90 seconds. Two more minutes later the connection was simply dropped and so we generated a 400 error message to encourage the sending server to try again later (since no bounce
was given per say from the receiving server, we won't hard-bounce it but defer it).
I hope this will help. you can try to look in the mydomain.com  inbound logs and see at that exact time what happened? Unfortunately, our visibility pretty much ends there as we don't have full visibility of your mail environment. You'll need to investigate
within your own environment unfortunately. If you have any more information to share with me, in case it might help me help you, feel free to do so. I'll leave this case opened for now.
    Sincerely,
    Patricia
