Really mixed feelings about discolouration repair

Hi,
I've just had my white MacBook repaired for the discolouration issue, and I have really mixed feelings about it, so I hope no one minds too much my venting here...
Firstly, the repair service: well, it seemed excellent at first. Amazing, in fact. They sent me a box on Friday which I received on Tuesday. It shipped straight back to Apple who repaired it on the Wednesday and returned it to me on the Thursday (today) - great. And the inner casing of my MacBook is now pristine white again, which is lovely. However...
1) They only replaced the casing around the keyboard, and did not bother to replace the casing around the screen. So there is still a tiny bit of yellow discolouration around the iSight camera, where I open the computer. I can understand how they would not notice this as it was not as exaggerated as the palm-rests, but of course, my hands to not stay in contact with it for as long so I imagine it will only get worse. What I am surprised about, however, is that they did not just replace that part too as a matter of course, given that both parts are made of the same material and came from the same batch.
2) There is now a small nick on the polycarbonate casing right next to the part they replaced - blatantly caused by something they used to prise off the palm-rest plastic. It is only very small and I'm not going to be too anal about it, but it is annoying that engineers would cause any damage to a machine.
3) They wiped my hard drive. Okay, I'm all backed up as they did warn me that they couldn't guarantee that my data would be saved, but I assumed that was just a standard warning. Why on earth would they have any need to wipe my hard drive when all they are doing is replacing the top casing?
I'm off to phone AppleCare about these issues right now...

Update... Having called AppleCare, it turns out that they didn't wipe my hard drive at all - they replaced it! It turns out that the diagnostic tests they do as a matter of course before returning a product suggested that the hard drive could potentially fail... Ouch.
As for the discolouration, it seems that Apple have only recognised the palm-rest issue as problem, and not the part around the screen - despite the fact that they are made from the same plastic. I spoke to a very helpful AppleCare rep, and I am about to send him pictures of all of these problems - the nick in the polycarbonate caused by an engineer, the discolouration around the iSight (which is actually impossible to take a photo of at this early stage) and - something I discovered whilst on the phone to them - how the new top-casing isn't quite flush on the left and beneath the trackpad (I can get my thumbnail between the top-casing and the polycarbonate).
The AppleCare folk have been very nice and very helpful, but I can't but help feel a little disappointed with my MacBook experience so far, even though everything else about it is great. All of these issues have just dampened the "wow" factor I used to have with my iBook...

  • Mixed Feelings About Apple iPad Case

    I like the Apple case except when the cover is completely open and saddled to the back. Makes it a bit thick to hold. SOme guy at the store bought a leather case, think it was made by Belkin and I thought it was terrible. Add a lot of thickness to the iPad when fully opened. Seem like almost everyone I saw at the Apple store in Manhattan was buying the Apple one. How are you guys liking it that bought one?

    I love the apple case.. I was (and still am) eager to get a really nice premium leather case but after enjoying the apple case i realized there is one MUST have feature for any case... Without it my iphone isn't really useable....
    I am referring to the ability to "fold" such that the case provides for an angled stand to type on. Having used the iphone (and loving it!!) for the past few days i realized its basically (for me at least) impossible to type on if its laying flat. Well, okay, its technically possible... But it is so so so much easier and more enjoy and... well.. functional to be typing on an angle. When not on an angle the tops of my hands visually hang in front of most of the non-keyboard screen and the viewing angle of the screen isn't quite as sharp..
    So thats my advice... I love love love VAJA cases and can't wait for them to have something at gets me excited... But having used the ipad for a few days straight now i realize that a case that provides for an angled typing option is an absolute necessity,,,

  • Mixed feelings - Suggestions for a phone

    Yeah...smartphones...one of the technologies I have literally never really gotten into. I have used others phone so I do know how to operate them and probably know more than most about them actually but never really used different brands and such. I have mostly had influence in Samsung Galaxies at that. 
    I have mixed feelings about it and I am not 100% sure I will even be purchasing a phone for actual use any time soon or not. Long story short my phone bill is getting too high so I was thinking about going just all cellular. 
    Anyway so I would like to get suggestions as to what type of phone would be best suited for my needs. First off, I  do want a newer-ish phone. I also would like to point out that I have a visual impairment so probably a larger screen would be suggested but not a real requirement if it has apps to enlarge text/etc. 
    Here are some basic guidelines I would prefer to go by:
    -bluetooth of course
    -wifi if possible ( hotspot is the word I don't know? ) 
    -4G ( ? ) 
    -newer-ish meaning I am not looking for a flip up .... yeah...(don't even know why I listed cause we specificallyt alking about smartphones but whatever ) 
    I also need suggestions on what type of protective case that should go with it. I will probably get two of whatever phone I finally decide on. One for myself and one for my dad. I would probably get the survival version of a case for both of us.

    I have heard similar rumors about a May/June launch of the device. I have waited this long already for a smartphone a month or so isn't going to hurt me to wait evenl onger. Even though I am considering geting a flex for my dad maybe. A friend has one and showed it to me. It looks pretty cool with the design I bet he would like the design/look of it personally more so than I would.

    It’s only fair that if Apple is going to integrate Mail into Mac PCs, it would be nice if the system does it for you like Office or perhaps Outlook. I just don’t to use Outlook although I have it installed and ready to use, but instead use Mail which comes with Mac OS already.

    LaCie doesnt make ANYTHING.  It contains a Seagate 3.5" 5400RPM HD.
    Check the HD on another computer, if nothing, your SATA bridge is fried, or the HD (very unlikely since its a Seagate inside)
    Youd have to crack open the HD, remove the SATA bridge cart thats plugged into the HD and put the HD into an enclosure or a HD dock to get the data
    those external HD use a 50 cent SATA bridge famous for failing.  The curse of all the good HD externals is the junk 3rd party SATA bridges attached to them that crash and burn.

  • Can someone please help me understand this? About Apple Repairs

    Hello everyone,
    I bought my macbook in Nov. 2009 in USA. I just moved to India and I've noticed the rubber base coming off and the infamous apple hairline crack. When I first took it to the India center, they kept insisting I had to pay for repair, I have a 1 year limited warranty.
    Upon my insisting that they check with Apple USA first, they decided to call them and then asked me to send them pictures. I've sent the pictures, my repairs have been approved.
    Now they tell me that I need to bring in the laptop and they need to run some software test for the crack, then they will submit this test and get the screen in about 4-5 days and then return the mac to me.
    I need to understand this from people that have gone through this sort of repair. Why do they need to do a software test for a hardware issue?
    Even if they have to do this software test, why can't they wait till the screen arrives (as this is the only way they claim to fix the crack) and then do the test all at once in one single day, rather than making me run back and forth with my macbook?
    I also requested for them to forward Apple's response to me, they refused and said its internal.
    I would really appreciate it if someone can please explain this to me, as the logic is just not making sense in my head. Maybe this is the way they do repairs and I'm not aware of them.. don't know..

    ok running it through a debugger DID NOT HELP at all, please somebody help me, im very desparate now. i have spent 15 hours on this problem alone. i see absolutley nothing wrong with my code and have tried about 10 doifferent ways of trying this.,....i cannot get it to work, somebody please help me, ...in addition i was hoping someone could clear up an issue i have with enums...i do not understand how i can access the variable of the enum, the only access to it my text book provides is how to acess the string associated with enums....but i need to access the variable itself...how would i design such a get method....ive tried that a bunch of different ways as well, and right now im so lost that i want to cry, somebody please help, im begging on my knees...i really need someone to explain this to me....

  • I hear mixed messages about Mavericks - do I need it? Currently on Snow Leopard

    I read and hear mixed feedback on Mavericks. I am curently on Snow Leopard. I read that it's best to stay on Leopard until fixes are applied to Mavericks. The main concern or negativity about Mavericks is that it is slow. Question, stay or upgrade. I am sure that this debate has gone on before. If someone can to point to an outcome or a discussion thread. Thanks.

  • Is there a way to change 2 really annoying things about the iTouch?

    I have a 16gb Ipod Touch and was wondering if there was a way to disable these 2 really annoying features.
    1. When your listening to music and turn it sideways it goes to album view and you have to look at your ipod to go to the next song since it gets rid of the Next / pause / back buttons.(( i listen to the ipod in bed so i usually just hit next song and be done with it.
    2. The auto correct when your typing because im pretty good at typing on the itouch. Example... i type a word and the itouch suggests a word that is somewhat similar and if you dont click the x next to the suggestion it will put that word in automaticly(( if your a fast touch typer like me it puts the word in if you hit space and its REALLY annoying.
    If anyone knows any ways to stop these 2 things thank you.

    Was the repair store Apple authorised?
    If not, the damage done is your responsibility.
    Here in the UK, Apple collect any iPhones which require a repair and supply a replacement handset while the faulty iPhone is away for repair. I haven't heard about repair shops servicing iPhones (yet)

    Hey everyone, my 2007 macbook pro's lcd screen has failed to turn on, but the computer itself turns on - so i networked it to my friend's mac using firewire and my harddrive was all there so im able to save everything.
    so the problem is probably that i need to get a new graphics card. how do you suggest i go about this, will apple charge a lot for labour? should i take it to another computer store with better charges, or should i attempt to change it myself?

    There's a few things that may have failed with this computer:
    1) As you suggested, the graphics chipset might be toast. This means you have to replace the logic board, which can be costly no matter who repairs it.
    2) The display is broken. You need to get this computer connected to an external display and see if images show up properly. If so, the graphics chipset is OK and you can look into replacing the display, or part(s) of it.
    3) The inverter cable in the display has shorted out. This is least expensive part to replace.
    What I would do is make an appointment with a Genius bar at a store near you and go do some troubleshooting and/or have the folks there diagnose the computer. All of that shouldn't cost you anything but your time (and possibly the gas to get there!).

    Today when I was looking trough About This Computer I found this weird bug:
    What I mean is that my drives are hidden abit under the other text to the right, I can't read what type my SSD is either.
    This is how it looks on my friends computer:
    Is it really supposed to look like that for me? I can't resize the window either.

    It should say "of type Sata"
    Do you have any idea why the pictures of the harddrives isnt centered with the text as it is on my friends?

    I've been a Btinternet.com customer since its conception and the loyalty is wearing a little thin. I am currently in Australia on holiday over the Christmas period. I signed into my xxxxx@btinternet account on 26th Nov at heathrow before departing. that was the last time I saw any emails. after many attempts to access my account and always getting the  same result ie Login errors. Wrong Password. Verification words repeatedly and eventually lock out. I decided to contact BT via email and told them the problem (Enquiry ref 131130-******)  they promise a reply within 24 hours and I gave them an alternative email address with another provider to reply to and my Aussie phone number . (nothing happenened)
    Another email (enquiry ref 131207-******) Nothing happened
    A few days later I rang the overseas number on the web site from Australia at full rate and I spent an hour on the phone with an Agent in India who tried very hard to be helpful and changed my password so many times I lost count. In the end I told him to get someone to access my account and send me the logiin details and he promised to phone me. (nothing Happened) 
    A few days later I rang again and spent another hour on the phone to yet another agent in India and we went through the whole thing again changing passwords and I couldn't convince them it wasnt just a password problem. Again I asked them to email me and phone me in australia .... they promised they would  (Nothing happened)
    On my Birthday (Happy birthday ) I rang them again and the whole thing started again after changing my passwords yet again I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told he wouldn't be available for 30 minutes. I insisted that the Agent took my login details and passed them to the techs in ENGLAND. she agreed after many refusals and also promised to phone me back when she has done this (Yes you got it ...Nothing happened.)
    Then I get an email in my xxxxx@Hotmail account from Bt (Hi thank you for your call today.As we have reset your password for you etc.   signed Libby Barr Manaaging Director. BT Consumer Sales and Service. 
    Well I'm pretty sure Libby doesn't even know I exist and I would be very angry if someone was treating customers in this way and using my name to sign emails.
    Anyway its now 12th Dec I have missed buisness appointments, Birthday greetings and christmas greetings. I can't get into my emails or my contact lists to send to my friends.
    I phoned my brother gave him all my bt login details an passwords etc and asked him to call BT in the UK and talk to someone. They wouldn't talk to him because he wasn't me (I can understand that ) He did manage to get to get from Mr Sushant that Bt don't make overseas's calls (thanks for that) (Why don';t they tell their Agents this good news) He did however say he would arrange for an email to be sent to my Hotmail account which will have a  have link embedded in to allow access to my account. (Yes you guessed it ....Nothing )
    I'm sorry this has dragged on. I really hope that someone at BT reads this Forum because I'm really fed up with the way I've been treated and will seriously be considering changing providers on my return to the UK in Jan 2014. All of the above is true and can be verified by Bt who take the trouble to record all phone calls for whatever reason.
    Bt can contact me via the enquiry ref numbers iin the text above. It may take some time but this will get to the very top man before I'm finnished.

    for the number 1 software ,it is still totally incromprehensive to me,how you have not installed an easy FEEDBACK button in your softwares,especially in adobe's photography directory, which seems to be in a continous coma ,since you started this great idea.
    i am not sure how you get any kind of feedback from anyone ,without giving us members a very easy to be found feedback button to your great idea here.
    instead we have to start a forum discussion amongst ourselves, instead with you directly !!!!!
    do you NOT care about our wishes and ideas? .....it seems like it.......
    this idea of yours would take off if you just open your eyes and ears to the needs of the market.
    give us a "Feedback button" somewhere easy to find, in Bridge "AND" here on the site, right on top of your site.

    wow, that about the worst response i would have ever expected from anyone.
    your APD adobe photographers directory for example is none existing in the public market right now, mainly because your ad agency in london who is handling this departement, is not working on it.
    it could be the most powerful database for us consumers who pay thousands of dollars for adobe products,
    and you know what, we photographers would be very happy to pay to be part of great database. only yours is not functioning, ........buty i guess nobody cares at adobe...
