Really odd GTX970 issue - DisplayPort related?

So I've bought an MSI GTX 970 (the Gaming 4G) and an ASUS 4K monitor, a PB287Q. The mainboard is an ASUS P6X58D-E, running an i7-950, on the most recent BIOS version 0803. The system is running Windows Technical Preview at the moment, which is mostly equivalent to 8.1; current NVIDIA driver version is 344.65, and the card BIOS version is NV316MH.180 (according to LiveUpdate).
I've connected the new monitor by DisplayPort and switched on DP1.2 in the monitor settings. The system POSTs, the MSI logo is lit on the card and the fans on the graphics card are spinning; I can navigate through any of the BIOSes (ASUS' own, my various RAID BIOS and the flash utility) but the system seems to fail to proceed past the BIOS when only the new monitor is plugged in. It doesn't appear to actually boot as the PC powers off instantly, rather than going through ACPI shutdown; a signal at 3840x2160 60Hz is seen by the monitor on its OSD, but it's black. If the monitor isn't plugged in, it does appear to boot as some other system things spin up; however, plugging in the monitor gets nothing at this point. It was able to boot fully with my old Radeon HD6850 in, so it seems to be some form of strange interaction.
At the moment I can get the system to work by also plugging in a spare monitor, an Iiyama 17" 1280x1024 screen, on DVI. It POSTs on the Iiyama, boots Windows, and then the 4K monitor starts working. However this isn't really a solution I can keep permanently, and I don't have the desk space in any case. It looks like possibly some form of card BIOS issue?
Many thanks; hope you can help.

Tried a few combinations of this. It seems that in order to use the Asus monitor on DisplayPort there has to be another monitor plugged in; when it's connected by HDMI (the only other option on this screen) the system boots, but obviously only at 30Hz.
The system doesn't boot at all if the Asus monitor is plugged in without a secondary: I even tried a Fedora USB stick, selected it on the boot menu, and it gets the same blank-screen-with-no-response effect. The odd thing is that when the secondary monitor is plugged in by DVI, it doesn't actually have to be on; the DVI monitor merely being connected causes the DP monitor to work when booted into Windows, even when the Iiyama is switched off manually in the NVIDIA control panel. (You get no signal in that case until the NVIDIA driver kicks in.)
I see there's a new VGA BIOS on LiveUpdate but it mentions UEFI, which my board doesn't have. Is it worth going for in any case?

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    In Firefox 4 [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode Safe mode] disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.
    * Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
    If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

  • Really odd First Launch issues

    Hello All,
    I am having som really, really odd issues with my PowerMac G4...
    Everytime I start-up from a cold boot (I turn it off during the night...) I return in the morning, and it can't see my network!
    I usually just restart again, and everything is fine.... but last friday, I had to fight with it for close to an hour to get it back working.
    No patches have been applied, no setting have been changed, it's on a APC UPS system.. it is just used as a workstation...(graphical work)
    It is running 10.3.9... (and has been since it was available, this issue has been going on for about a month now)
    Any clues to this slightly aggrivating problem?
    I don't really want to get a new Desktop until a Commercial MacIntel machine is available.
    Thanks!!!

    Hi Gabriel!
    Why turn it off? Leave it on all night since OS X runs maintenence on the computer during the night. This could be part of problem . I would also suggest booting up from the install disk and running disk utility from it and repairing permissions.
    Also, is it possible your APC UPS system is getting turned off at night too? Perhaps the battery is going bad and just needs replacing?
    Good Luck!

  • Odd netowrking issues on 2 Dell PowerEdge servers

    Hi, we have recently installed two Dell PowerEdge servers both set-up with Windows Server 2008 R2. I used the Dell Systems Management disk to install the OS which pre-loads certain drivers, etc.
    Since the install I have been trying to track down and fix some very strange behaviour with both servers, in particular with MS Exchange 2007 and IIS.
    The issues on server 1 (file server) are no access to Windows Updates (0x80072EE2), certain users on other VPN sites having problems accessing certain areas of our Intranet that require authentication, odd problems using IE on the server - for example
    I can go to Google, carry out a search but when I click on a result it just sits there waiting for Google. There are no issues with users on the same site, and there are no issues accessing the server shares from any site.
    The issues on server 2 (Exchange server) are even more odd and have me rapidly pulling out my hair. With the site we can send and receive between this server and an old Exchange 2003 server with no problems, Public Folder replication from the old server
    to the new is occurring with no problems and we can send messages with large attachments both to external users and users on other sites. However when we start looking at incoming connections this is where it gets odd. Incoming external messages over 4Mb are
    delayed and eventually bounced - our provider says that they are getting timeouts. Incoming messages with attachments from two other internal Exchange 2007 sites are getting delayed and from one sites are not getting through at all. Messages without attachments
    are not getting through at all. In the Exchange logs I am seeing Connection Timeout and Connection Dropped messages.
    I am very sure that the problem is not with message size as all parameter relating to message size are set to 100Mb. I know it is not a firewall issue as redirecting incoming external messages to the old Exchange server is fine.
    To my mind this looks like there is something on these servers which is messing with http/https/smtp when communicating outside the local subnet. I have checked for viruses and mal-ware and for testing purposes disabled AV and firewall but this makes no
    difference.
    I have two other PowerEdge server on another site with similar configurations which have been working fine for 18 months. The only big difference I can see between the servers is that these two are the only one where I used the Dell Systems Management disk
    to install the OS. I have Googled 80072EE2 and it does appear that other have seen the same problem and their way to resolve it was to wipe and reinstall directly from the Microsoft disk and no use the Dell Systems Management Disk.
    However, this is not an option here as these servers are both in a live environment (I know, should have made sure everything was running properly before going live, but these had to be put in place rapidly to replace failing servers).
    From what I can see of the servers it does appear that somewhere along the line Dell have used files which are causing some networking issues on these two servers - can anyone advise me if there is a reasonably straight-forward way to remove the network
    components form the servers and then reinstate from the Microsoft disk?
    I have tried the fixed relating to Windows Update from the suggestion offered searching for 80072EE2.
    I have tried installing the latest Dell drivers for the network adaptor, and also the latest Broadcom ones.
    I have tried switching off various Offload settings on the NIC as suggested by other although that was more relating to Hyper-V issues.
    Anything else I should be looking at, or can anyone tell me what else to look for on the servers?
    Many thanks, Eddie

    Hi Eddie,
    Based on your description, we have many different problems in two servers as below,
    In the file server.
    -> The issues on server 1 (file server) are no access to Windows Updates (0x80072EE2).
    -> odd problems using IE on the server - for example I can go to Google, carry out a search but when I click on a result it just sits there waiting for Google.
    I noticed that you mentioned that you have tried the fixed relating to Windows Update. Have we solved this issue? And another issue, IE could access Google but can’t access
    the links in search result. It seems that this issues are related to name resolution. To verify if the name resolution works fine. Please ping the DNS server at first. If we can ping DNS server, we can also ping
    www.google.com and other domain names to verify the function of name resolution. Please try to use ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns command in server 1. And the DNS port(53) was opened. After this, if the problem
    still exist, please involve the administrator of DNS server to help verify if the domain name resolution has some problems.
    -> certain users on other VPN sites having problems accessing certain areas of our Intranet that require authentication
    I’m a little unclear about this part. If the VPN connection has set up successful, it is possible that the user need be authenticate when the user access some resource of the
    Intranet. So what is the certain areas and what prompt we received.
    In the Exchange server.
    ->Incoming external messages over 4Mb are delayed and eventually bounced - our provider says that they are getting timeouts. Incoming messages with
    attachments from two other internal Exchange 2007 sites are getting delayed and from one sites are not getting through at all. Messages without attachments are not getting through at all. In the Exchange logs I am seeing Connection Timeout and Connection Dropped
    messages.
    -> I am very sure that the problem is not with message size as all parameter relating to message size are set to 100Mb.
    We can send messages but we can’t receive messages, it was delayed or it can’t get through. And I notice that you mentioned that the message size is
    not the problem. To verify if the network have problems about the size messages. We can also download a file whose size is over 5Mb from the Internet. If we can download the file, maybe it’s not the network problems.
    -> I know it is not a firewall issue as redirecting incoming external messages to the old Exchange server is fine.
    Maybe we could also turn off the firewall temporarily to see if the firewall block some connection.
    -> To my mind this looks like there is something on these servers which is messing with http/https/smtp when communicating outside the local subnet.
    If we think the http/https/smtp are related to this issues, maybe we could check if all ports about this service was opened.
    And due to server 2 is an Exchange server, there might be some wrong with the Exchange services. We have the related Exchange forum with professional
    to deal with this issue. If there are still some problems with Exchange server, maybe we can try to create a new thread about Exchange.
    Best Regards,
    Tina

  • Odd microphone issue with headphone jack

    Well, I really have two issues involving the headphone jack.  One is when I plug the headphone in the volume will occasionally drop to zero and then no longer go up past 0.  A power off fixes this.
    A second thing I discovered is that sometimes the microphone does not work after plugging in my headphones.  I fist noticed this when I was trying to use the speakerphone in my car with the line out through my stereo.  I thought that was by design at first.  However, I started using voice control and I noticed that the the microphone was not picking up any sound.  I could tell this because of the visual waveform display.  If I uplug and replug the microphone may start to work.
    This happens fairly frequently but enough to make speakerphone use and voice control rather unreliable.

    Yes, it has done it through resets.  It seems to happen about 1/2 the time I plug the line out in.  They tried to tell me at the store that it was my car trying to control the audio.  Then I tried to explain it's a simple stero jack plug.
    However, if it keeps up I can go to the service center and get an exchange.  I'm going to try and report the issue to Nokia first in case it is firmware related.

  • Color Shift - Save To Web - There really is an issue

    OK, Every article I have read about this topic indicates that the user does not really grasp colour management fully. However, I'm going to stick my neck out, and suggest that there really is an issue with either PS or Fireworks CS5, and here's why.
    Create a new document - maybe just 100x100px, and choose "Don't color manage this document" when creating it. Fill it with a solid colour, I used RGB 24 16 44 - a dark blue. Now, we have an un-managed swatch.
    Save this to web as a JPG, making sure that no conversion to sRGB is taking place (Convert to sRGB is unchecked). In the Save to Web window, you can hover over the swatch and see the colours are still RGB 24 16 44 - so far so good...
    Save it as a JPG at 100% quality, just to be sure. Also, save it as a 24bit PNG.
    OK, now do something similar in Fireworks... name your files accordingly...
    Now open the files in the opposite applications. There SHOULDN'T be any colour shifts at all - you are dealing with raw, un-managed RGB files. However, the JPGs in both instances have shifted. PNG files are spot on.
    Can someone explain - without being a terse smart arse - exactly what is causing this? And please, if you are going to glibly refer to some FAQ or such, supply a URL. Sorry, I know the vast majority of folks here are helpful, but I find the quality of some replies aren't worth reading.
    Steve

    I think you can deduce the reason by looking really closely (literally, zooming in) at how .jpgs are constructed.  There is a grid of sampling areas (the size based on the quality setting) and each 'block' is like a little gradient, that is the trick that jpg uses to compress.  If the program could not change a colour, it would not be able to compress.
    Non-lossy formats (eg: zip) look at compressing the data, if it sees a chain of 300,000 zeros, it logically says 'put 300,000 zeros here', that is quicker than literally writing the zeros.
    Lossy methods look at the colour of a group of pixels and then substitute them with a mathematical gradient that averages out the content of the block and where you have little detail, the compression is greater because the little blocks are easily described as bland gradients. (bland blends? hehe).
    That is why final file sizes in jpgs are variable for the same pixel dimensions, a fact which has baffled many here, because a complex image cannot be averaged out as easily as a plain one.
    Again: If the program could not change the colour of pixels, it would not be able to compress in this way.

  • Really Odd Crash

    There's a really odd bug / crash that happens under these very specific circumstances.  Unfortunately I can't upload an FLA here, so I've provided a download link from a 3rd party site.  If you don't feel comfortable with that, I've listed the steps to recreate the error below.
    (Note: Don't click the giant download buttons, click where it says "Save file to your PC: click here")
    http://www.2shared.com/file/qJWkGney/PrivateVideoChat.html
    http://www.2shared.com/file/M5tNwwRL/PrivateVideoChatExample.html
    If you don't feel comfortable with that, here's a description on how to recreate the error:
    1. Create a new AS3 FLA
    2. Under AS3 Settings -> Library Path, import the flash only player 10 AFCSFlash.swc
    3. Import rpc.swc from the FLEX sdk into the library path
    4. Create a movie clip and put text object in it.  Don't put it on the stage -- leave it in the library.
    And then to make it work with the document class...
    5. Add a Button component and name the instance connectButton
    6. Add a TextInput component and name the instance connectSessionID
    7. Add another TextInput component and name the instance myCSessionID
    8. Create the document class and link it to the FLA
    9. Add your developer credentials (where the constants are defined)
    The document class is this:
    package {
        import com.adobe.rtc.authentication.AdobeHSAuthenticator;
        import com.adobe.rtc.collaboration.AudioPublisher;
        import com.adobe.rtc.collaboration.AudioSubscriber;
        import com.adobe.rtc.collaboration.WebcamPublisher;
        import com.adobe.rtc.collaboration.WebcamSubscriber;
        import com.adobe.rtc.events.SessionEvent;
        import com.adobe.rtc.session.ConnectSession;
        import fl.controls.Button;
        import fl.controls.TextInput;
        import flash.display.Sprite;
        import flash.events.MouseEvent;
        public class PrivateVideoChatExample extends Sprite {
            protected const USERNAME:String = "";
            protected const PASSWORD:String = "";
            protected const ROOM_URL:String = "";
            protected var _cSession:ConnectSession = new ConnectSession();
            protected var _webcamPublisher:WebcamPublisher = new WebcamPublisher();
            protected var _localWebcamSubscriber:WebcamSubscriber = new WebcamSubscriber();
            protected var _audioPublisher:AudioPublisher = new AudioPublisher();
            protected var _audioSubscriber:AudioSubscriber;
            public var connectButton:Button;
            public var connectSessionID:TextInput;
            public var myCSessionID:TextInput;
            public function PrivateVideoChatExample() {
                var authenticator = new AdobeHSAuthenticator();
                authenticator.userName = this.USERNAME;
                authenticator.password = this.PASSWORD;
                this._cSession.roomURL = this.ROOM_URL;
                this._cSession.authenticator = authenticator;
                this._cSession.login();
                this._cSession.addEventListener(SessionEvent.SYNCHRONIZATION_CHANGE, this.onLogin);
                this.connectButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, this.connectTo);
            protected function connectTo(event:MouseEvent) {
                if(this._cSession.userManager.getUserDescriptor(this.connectSessionID.text)) {
                    this.createNewPrivateChat(this.connectSessionID.text);
            public function onLogin(event:SessionEvent):void {
                this.myCSessionID.text = this._cSession.userManager.myUserID;
                this._audioPublisher.publish();
                this._webcamPublisher.publish();
                this._localWebcamSubscriber.subscribe();
            public function createNewPrivateChat(userID:String) {
                this._audioSubscriber = new AudioSubscriber();
                trace("Hasn't crashed yet....!");
                this._audioSubscriber.subscribe();
                this._audioSubscriber.publisherIDs = new Array(userID);
                trace("Aaaaannnndddd...boom.");
    You'll notice if you do any of the following it'll work fine:
    1. Replace the player 10 AFCSFlash.swc with the player 9 AFCSFlash.swc in the library path
    2. Remove the rpc.swc from the library path
    3. Remove the MovieClip with the text object in it
    4. Comment out the line "this._audioSubscriber.publisherIDs = new Array(userID);"
    Edit: Oh yeah, and to use the application you copy your session ID (from the myCSessionID TextInput) and paste it into the the connectSessionID TextInput in another instance of the swf file (or into the same one -- you get the same results).
    I was able to replicate this on another computer using the files above, so I don't think it's my environment that's causing the error.

    All,
    This looks like a bug with Flash player debug plugin.
    Please download the Flash player latest version of debug

  • Odd font issue with Safari, iWeb

    Ok, so I've been having this odd font issue with Safari for quite a while now, and I haven't been able to fix it. Some text on several different websites come up in a different font than the default font for Safari. I've tried changing the default font to something else, changing the text encoding and nothing. This has been happening with several releases of Safari.
    Now, last night I discovered the same thing is happening with iWeb. Some of the text fields come up with the same font as the one in Safari! I don't even know which font it is. So somehow these are linked.
    I'm at work right now, but I can get a screen shot of the font once I get home.
    Any ideas on how to remedy this?

    Hi Tom, thanks for the response. I tried searching for those two fonts in my font book and they weren't in there. See below for screen shots of the odd text I'm getting:
    iWeb
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    Safari
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    If anyone can help resolve I'd greatly appreciate it. As much as I like Safari, this odd font makes me close Safari after a few mins of browsing =\

  • Odd Reporting Issue (ENTERPRISE)

    I have a client with some users experiencing a rather odd reporting issue. The report runs fine, but only shows values for the totals and not the line items that make up the total.
    For example, when I run the report (logged in as admin as well as under their ID), I see:
    Net Sales 1,234
    Cost Of Sales (1,111)
    Gross Margin 123
    When they log in on their machine, they see:
    Net Sales
    Cost Of Sales
    Gross Margin 123
    Very odd. I figured maybe it was an application setting, but the INI didn't look off anywhere particular.
    They are running Enterprise 6.3.1 (yeah, insert comment here on the upgrade needed).
    Any thoughts???

    Check their Effective rights, and reset them, that has worked out for me. Otherwise, try copying the user and paste it as a new user and retest; I had to delete users and recreate them to correct problems of this nature.

  • Really strange network issue that is specific to OS X 10.6.8

    Really strange network issue that is specific to OS X 10.6.8 on both 2 iMacs and an older intel Mac Pro.
    Any system running 10.6.8 is achieving on average 15 –20 mb a sec transfer rates regardless of drive speeds, cables, network activity etc.. I've spent some time removing any cable , drive speed, router issues to the point where one machine dual boots into both 10.6.8 and 10.6.5
    The 10.6.5 system has network speeds of 60mb – 80mb p/sec transfer rates.
    Our older 10.5.8 PPC mac gets 80mb and my 2011 Macbook Pro 10.7.2 hits 60mb – 80mb consistently as well.
    Any idea what the cause is?
    Cheers

    Since your other Mac running 10.5.8 is not affected, you know that your AirPort router is functioning correctly.
    What changed on your Mac? This seems like a post for either the Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard support area, or the support area for your model of Mac.
    We normally handle questions about the AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule in this area, but you can certainly wait to see if you receive a response here.

  • Pretty old setup, 785GM-E51, I have an odd issue (BIOS related?)

    Hello, I'll just get to the point.
    I have an issue, where If I start up my pc normally, just push the button and let it boot, it will 100% of the time fail, either by BSODing randomly in windows or my programs start crashing and I'll just have to do the weird way. BUT if i press the power switch on the back, clear the power from my pc, then start up the pc, reset cmos and load my settings again, it will work fine.
    This started happening to me when I updated bios to 2.12 from 2.03, yes I have tried many different ways and both versions of BIOS (2.03/2.12) and it still doesn't go away. It was all working fine before the bios update..
    All suggestions are welcome, although I am not in a positsion of swapping hardware at the moment.
    EDIT: I am currently trying to increase NB voltage to see how it affects any of this (this also increases HT, since they are linked).

    test with each one of memory sticks alone
    in which test model this happens?
    My problem is simply put (problably) that motherboard doesn't initialize voltages correctly from the beginning, ergo I'm trying to increase CPUNB voltages to make it stable from the first cold boot.
    This is usually how I need to boot : Power on -> Before POST : Power off -> Unplug AC, clear power from mobo -> Boot.
    Now I have reflashed the boot the cleanest way i know (before this i tried M-flash, got a checksum error yesterday so thats not gonna happen ).
    USB Bootable Tool -> Newest bios version from MSI (2.C or 2.12) -> Install from ZIP -> Reboot -> Flash bios -> Power off -> Unplug AC -> Wait a little for power to clear -> Unplug GPU (blocking jumper) -> Jumper to 2/3 -> wait 10 seconds -> Jumper to 1/2 -> Remove battery -> Holding battery against the connector in battery slot for 5 sec -> plug battery back in -> GPU back in slot -> AC on, Power ON -> Set my bios settings.
    I'm gonna test with each memory stick alone now, should I keep them in their original spot or go through all the slots?

  • Photoshop CS2 issues & Customer Relation's solution

    i bought a g5 quad in June 06 that failed in july 06. they were unable to resolve the issue and gave me a replacement machine.
    i was given a mac pro with 4GB of RAM and a terabyte of internal storage. the 2 oem 500GB Seagate 7200.10 hard drives took over 9+ hours to zero out: the apple store genius told me this was normal. i have since purchased 2 different hard drives. one of the same capacity which zero's out in under 2 hours. that number IS normal.
    Adobe Photoshop CS2 Bridge and Camera RAW have never worked properly on this machine since i got it, quitting all the time when renaming files or browsing my hard drive folders in Bridge. i was told that this is normal and that CS3 and Leopard will fix all this. then the CS3 Beta came out and the machine quits even with the new version.
    i contacted Adobe, they say it is my hardware. i went to the apple store and showed them the problem and was able to duplicate it on every mac pro in their store and they said it must be a software issue.
    i bought more RAM from apple. the machine works somewhat better now, but it still crashes in photoshop and adobe camera raw and bridge. i purchased lightroom and have looked at changing my workflow, and this program too quits intermittently.
    i called apple customer support again. they walked me through using a different user account. same issues. i asked to speak to customer relations. i got on the phone with the lady, and i asked if it was possible to send someone out to look at the machine since it is not working properly, and she said that it is not something they would do since it is not their problem. i asked if they would be able to help me decipher the crash logs so i can find out WHY the machine is crashing.
    her exact words were, "well, maybe you can sell it? if it is giving you all these problems and since it is not our hardware, it might be best for you to sell it and buy something that works."
    "sell it." i would like to say that "sell it" was not the answer i was looking for. i wasn't even mean to her. i was extremely polite and i got, "sell it" from customer relations. i hope none of you get "sell it"
    good luck to all of you.

    You use to use Windows but decided to move to Macs at some point, and not look or go back. And that the Quad G5 worked up until some point.
    When I got my Mac Pro back in late August/early Sept, I ran into some oddities that no one could help me with. Drivers from Lexmark for their laser printers. Suffice to say that I spent weeks if not month trying to track down why etc. and doing the "clean install" but ended up with the original install disk image.
    I'm always afraid if I am forced to install any drivers for now as a result.
    I updated SoftRAID (I thought) and ran into every driver and extension conflict possible, known and unknown.
    Clean install and avoided anything I could "live without" this time around, and it was stable. For a few days, any and every - and I mean absolutely anything I tried to launch, run or whatnot would CRASH.
    I was ready to point fingers. But at whom? ah! must be the Ramjet. Passes all tests, but there must be a gremlin and nothing is good enough to find the cause.
    System is now rock solid and stable.
    I don't know really what or why. And whether it was SMC reset (I wish they would paint the button in RED!) or zapping PRAM/NVRAM.
    I also installed Vista to see if it was OS X or hardware or not. But I never learned what is needed to really use and secure a Windows system - or troubleshoot it if it goes haywire. But you would.
    I have spent 40+ yrs tinkering with computers, and 20 with Macs. I think I still remember some of the troubleshooting days from 1990 hunting down shareware bugs.
    If it is hardware, it would fail running XP too, maybe? did you retain your license for and copies of Windows and CS2 or whatever you would use? (The Mac Pro really shines running Windows Vista from what I've seen).
    It doesn't take a lot to turn a Mac into a crash-prone system. There are some bugs even with the OS update installer itself it seems.
    Troubleshooting is as much art as science. Hunches based on what feels wrong with some sweat and guesses backed by some "CSI" sleuthing and detective work.
    Only Apple or Intel would know if they have had to come out with re-designed chips, a newer motherboard, or cpus. Or the AMB used on the Risers.
    As I said (5 pages ago?) a friend had a G5 Quad that would not run CS2 properly, was crashing etc. (and had on-site Care etc) and the latest logicboard (3rd) stopped the problems, CS2 runs faster and better, it doesn't crash, and the benchmarks show it.
    There are revisions to logic-boards. I read it takes 3-6 months to get a pattern of a problem, and another 3-6 months to redesign parts, manufacturing, testing, between engineering prototypes and manufacturing.
    I thought the whole idea of AppleCare was sort of the "care" in AppleCare. And to solve a problem.
    It would take someone with access to what engineering errata is going on. What changes were made to G5s. There were other problems with Quad it seems as well, heat, the liquid cooling components (there are two varieties).
    I don't have the stomach or temper to deal with customer service, phones, etc. But I would make an appointment (yes, again!). I don't know what terms there are for small business or customers to get premium care, probably not good.
    We had a mainframe with a bad memory card or bank. We thought. We also swapped out every part trying to get it fixed. We even had to keep the room temp colder and controlled humidity. A new system for us would have been lower maintenance, lower energy bill, less strain on a/c even. And smaller (so we didn't need to use as much floor space). But government can be "penny wise and pound foolish" in such matters.
    I know you are just getting familiar with things like "Onyx" and "Disk Warrior" and such. Those can be helpful.
    Crashing does tend to lead to more crashes. Mac OS X is not immune to side effects of what they can do. And usually you want to finish a project, not get sidelined.
    I wish you had a G5 Quad in there. Two systems. Maybe two G5s even if you have the work or so you can be running CS2 on one and CS3 on another. Or have a techie "gearhead" come in and test and insure that your systems are in working order. Something.
    It ain't normal. And it should get more than a "brush off."

  • Odd QoQ issue when querying Solr collection

    Hello, everyone.
    I've got a query of query issue that has me stumped.  Maybe I'm just missing something very simple, but this has got me really confuzzed.
    I have a Solr collection that is indexing a few tables in an Oracle database.  Let's call it "hdq", for this discussion.
    I wrote a semi-complex query of related tables from which the CFINDEX is using to index the data.  This is working just fine.
    I created the Solr collection in the CF9 CFAdmin, and am using the following to index with:
    <cfindex action="refresh" collection="hdq" key="QUESTION_ID" type="custom" title="QUESTION_TITLE" query="search_questions" body="QUESTION_TX,QUESTION_TITLE,CATEGORY_NM,TAG_NM,ANSWER_TITLE,ANSWER_TX"
        custom1="QUESTION_STATUS" custom2="TAG_NM" custom3="QUESTION_STATUS" custom4="QUESTION_TYPE" category="CATEGORY_NM">
    Then I do a CFSEARCH and name it "hd_questions".  Again, so far, so good, no problems.
    If I do a CFDUMP of "hd_questions", one of the columns is KEY (which is QUESTION_ID in the database.)  If I CFOUTPUT the collection, KEY is there.
    If I QoQ the CFSEARCH of the collection and use SELECT custom3, score, summary, context, key FROM hd_questions, I get an error message that
    Encountered "key. Incorrect Select List, Incorrect select column,
    .. then it gives the line number of the page that produced the error, and
    <cfquery dbtype="query" name="hd_results">
    Am I missing something simple, here?  KEY is in the collection, I can see it in CFDUMP, I can see it in CFOUTPUT.  But if I query the collection and try to select KEY, there is an error.
    Any thoughts/ideas?
    Thank you,
    ^_^

    Key is a reserved word in Coldfusion, so can't be used directly in a QoQ without escaping it.  Try wrapping it in [ ] instead, i.e. [key]
    It may also help to give it an alias too, e.g. SELECT [key] AS someKey

  • Odd Outlook Issue; Cannot Send Updates to Existing Appointments

    Hi all,
    In the recent past (literally within the past month or so) a number of users have reported to our helpdesk that they cannot update events via Outlook.  They update the event then attempt to click the "Send Update" button, but nothing happens.
    It appears as if the button is engaged nothing happens.  No errors are displayed and nothing appears in the event logs.
    This started off with a few Delegates being unable to update items on behalf of the Manager, but it now seems like it has spread to a few people managing their individual Calendars as well.
    I already advised the helpdesk to remove certain Office updates that I thought may be either related to Outlook or impactful to Outlook, but removing them hasn't helped.  I also had them attempt to run in Online Mode (as the default is Cached Mode)
    and delete the .OST, but these haven't helped either.
    The users are able to update their events via mobile device and OWA without issue, so it leads me to believe it is indeed an issue with Outlook, or maybe some odd interaction with a specific Windows update, but I cannot say for certain, hence my posting
    this here.
    Particulars for the environment:
    -Users are running Windows 7 SP1 or 8.1 (all 64-bit)
    -Users are running Outlook 2007 SP3 with latest Outlook-specific updates
    -Exchange is 2010 SP3 UR 8 v2 (on 2008 R2 SP1)
    Someone from my team will go over to over to put eyes on this (with the helpdesk analyst who told us about this) and enable Logging in Outlook to see if it finds anything, but I wanted to post this here as well to see if anyone has encountered this
    (or anything like it).
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
    In client side, please start Outlook in safe mode for these problematic users to have a try. This operation can narrow down whether the issue is caused by any third-party add-ins in Outlook. If the issue doesn't occur in safe mode, please enable the disabled
    add-ins one by one to find out the root cause. About how to re-enable add-ins, please refer to
    Re-enabling COM add-ins one-by-onepart in the following KB:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2632425/en-us
    Additionally, if the issue persists in Outlook safe mode, please perform a clean boot for this windows machine to confirm if the issue is caused by any third-party programs in local machine:

  • Msi k8t neo fis2r odd post issues

    well, i went over to a friends house, pulled out his ram..put in in my computer..it posted and boot to windows..perfectly..
    so then i go into the bios and up the voltage..so that i can put my old ram back in..it stopped responding when i updated the bios becuase it set the voltage back down to default..so..
    i put my ram back in once the voltage is set to 2.75 v and it booted a few times perfectly..i unhooked everything and came home..well
    now i try to boot the pc and once again it will not boot? is it possible that the cmos got cleared when i unplugged the pc???
    i know my ram isnt bad..i ran it on a friends system while playing games for hours..this motherboard is driving me insane..someone really dropped the ball when they made these..so many issues with having to fool around with voltages etc..cant even get the damn system to post if the voltage isnt up and even then sometimes it seems to not want to ..its crazy..
    i know none of my components are NOT broken because ive stresssed them all fully in other peoples computers..
    if anyone has any clue as to how i can get this thing to post to get back in the bios plz reply..im at wits end
    my system specs are
    athlon 64 3000+
    512mb mushkin special 2-2-2 ram (i will change the timings to the recommended slightly delayed timings but i have to actually get into the bios to make this possible)
    msi k8t neo fis2r bios 1.4

    Southmike is sooooooooo right on that one. I see a lot of folks running stuff on other computers with + results and then nothing on the Athlon64 - equipped systems. Well, I think it's O.K. to a certain point, at least to find out if an item is not defunct. But, most of the problems are RAM and PSU related. After that, I believe the BIOS is the biggest issue. And I think some of our forum readers don't actually understand the settings they mess with. I for one, do not fully understand a few of them myself! That is why it's important to make changes in BIOS one at a time.....if you are not as experienced as a lot of folks here at the forum are.
