I am very new to this standby concept .
could you please tell me how do we check that database is in sync i mean the primary and the standby are in sync or not .
Thanks in advanceHow to check whether the Standby Database is in Sync
On the primary server:
SQL> SELECT max(sequence#) AS "PRIMARY" FROM v$log_history;
On the standby server:
SQL> SELECT max(sequence#) AS "STANDBY", applied
FROM v$archived_log GROUP BY applied;
The standby database is in sync with the primary database if the above PRIMARY value matches the above STANDBY value where applied = 'YES'.

    Hi Mahesh Arban,
    Sorry for my delay.
I can’t find the same hotfix for Windows Server 2012 Standard. So, we may need to do some troubleshootings
to narrow down this issue and solve it.
Please let me confirm if you have installed all updates for this Windows Server 2012 Standard. Meanwhile, please
use Sfc command to scans and verifies the integrity of all protected system files.
In addition, this issue caused to unexpected server reboot. So, please configure and then collect the dump
file to analysis. It may help us to find the root cause of this issue.
How to read the small memory dump file that is created by Windows if a crash occurs

By the way, can you find any error messages in application log (such as Event ID 1000 or others) after this

    Hope this helps.

  • Will it cause reboot to the server.

    Hi All,
In one of our production server, currently we have default setting to the SQL Server memory 2147483647, and the version is Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (SP1) - 10.50.2500.0 (X64) Jun 17 2011 00:54:03 Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation Standard
    Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.1 <X64> (Build 7600.
Customer wants it to set 4.5 GB as mar memory to SQL, Now my question is " when we set it max memory required by customer,  will this(setting Max memory) cause a reboot to the server or have any significant chance of causing a problem
    since this is production server?
    Thanks.

Hi This is the message which I received when I executed this query

  • Sqr's quit running - only solution is reboot of windows server

Just curious if anyone else has experienced this problem. Our SQR's, crystals, NVisions randomly quit running and the only solution is to reboot the windows server. We are pt 8.49.05, and fins 9.0. Stopping/starting apps, prcs servers do not fix the problem. Nor, does clearing cache. Any suggestions?

I think we found the problem. We have processes to print and reprint invoices. When the invoices are done, they are ftp'd to another server. the ftp.txt file that houses the ftp commands, did not have the bye command in it and therefore never returned to the .bat file that kicked it off. Over the course of a few days, we would end up with several cmd.exe and ftp.exe and of course the old' acrord32.exe processes that did not get killed. We moved the bye command into the .txt file, and now all we have to do is find a way to kill that acrord32.exe cleanly after invoices are reprinted. Thank you all for your suggestions.

IMO : (i am not a great oracle dba, because i have not enough time to spend with, and my collegue need really simple think to do, like startup/shutdown a database, no more investigation)Why startup/shutdown a database? I have databases that work 24x7 and uptimes of over a year. The record so far, has been over 24 months uptime (1st downtime were caused by a powerfailure to the rack cabinet). And for a database instance that runs a number of processes and deals with 100's to 1000's of inserts per second.
it's easier to view that an oracle process take more cpu and so investigate in that database what's appens. Rather than search in my v$sql table to find witch schema doing wrong thinksNot sure what you are trying to say here. Single or multiple database instances do not change how a session looks like, or how SQLs are executed.. and thus not how you troubleshoot problems. Nor does it change resource requirements, or how you address these. But multiple instances do impact resource availability and requires one to split resources amongst instances - the end result of this is less flexibility.
It's easier to affect cpu ressource to a process, rather than configuring it in oraclePlease explain.
It's easier to stop a database rather than "put offline a schema"This is a "silly" statement to make IMO. Why do you want to offline a schema? Availability of applications and data are a critical feature in today's information system landscape. So why argue the complete opposite and say it is now more complex to make something less available?
By the same token, why do you want to offline a database? A down database is even less useful than a downed server - at least you can use the downed server as a doorstop.. ;-)
And if a database crash it only affect one application.Yeah.. and these happens when? Every few minutes? Every hour? Once a day?
This is not a valid argument. Oracle instances very seldom crashes just for the heck of it. Most often it is due to incorrect o/s configuration, problematic hardware, uncertified components, old drivers, etc. Or plain old application abuse of Oracle.
There is the theorical approach and practical one : I'm not alone is that case :
    http://oracledoug.com/serendipity/index.php?/archives/1339-The-Reality-Gap-3-A-Single-Instance-per-Server.html
    http://www.dba-oracle.com/art_dbazine_server_consolidation.htm
I have never done RDBMS as a theoretical thing. The most dynamic table (ito SQLs against it) I have, grows by more than 450 million rows per day. This is as real world as real world gets. And that is what shapes my experience and opinion. And Burleson and I have never seen eye to eye on a number of subjects - so quoting his views on consolidation does little to persuade me to change my opinion.
have you any ideas where can i found an error message that explain why my database doesn't start ? (like not enough ressource ;-) )Troubleshooting a problem starts with a very basic principle - isolation. Isolate the layer or moving part where the problem occurs. As the other instances are running, it means that the CRS software layer is up and running, that the storage layer is up and running and so on. So the problem should be with the instance that for some reason refuses to start? Confirm this by using sqlplus to start a down instance and looking at what its alert log file says. It should have some kind of pointer to what dependency that has not been met.

  • Listener service not start automatically after reboot in Win2K server Clust

    Hi all,
I set up a two node Server Cluster with Microsoft Windows 2000 server cluster service. Hardware are two HP DL380 servers and HP MSA500 (the shared storage). The cluster's IP address is 10.1.241.65. When I shut down both servers and restart the primary server, the listener server service will not start automatically. The listener log is:
    Started with pid=1108
    Error listening on: (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=10.1.241.65)(PORT=1521)))
TNS-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
    TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
TNS-00515: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
32-bit Windows Error: 49: Unknown error
The service is set up automatically start. I suspect the cluster virtual IP is not available immediately after reboot. So I tried setting the Recovery after first failure and second failure to 3 minitues each, and setting up Dependencies of the listener on the cluster service in the Win2K Service panel. Neither worked.
The service can be manually start.
    Any suggestion?
    Frank.

The command to start automatically the listener is :
    lsnrctl start
check the parameters in : <ORACLE_HOME>/network/admin/listener.ora
check the IP address or host name

    I installed 10g R2 10.1.2.0.2 application server RHEL AS 4.0 2.6.9-11 kernel.
After the successful installation IM and MR and MT (BI). All the components in the MT and infrastructure was showing up status. After rebooting the machine i executed the following commands
    For Infrastructure
    1.     To make the metadata repository up and running
Log in as an oracle user
    #cd /home/oraASInfra/bin
    #export ORACLE_HOME=/home/oraASInfra
    #export ORACLE_SID=mamcinfr
    #./lsnrctl start
    #./sqlplus

    For Middle tier
    1.     To start the middle tier components

    #cd /home/oraASmt/opmn/bin
    #./opmnctl startall
    2.     To start the iasconsole

In the MT all the components is showing up status
In the Infrastructure except oracle sso OID , HTTP server and OC4J security is showing up status.
There is no any port conflicts between the infrastructure and MT.
Is there any post installation tasks has to be done after the installation?
please help me to sort out the issue.

    1. After RapidWiz with 11.5.10.2 CDs, do we need to
do any post installation step to make the browser
load Oracle Forms. Do we need to create our own
certificate using envshell.cmd and then adjkey. And,
apply that to Jinitiator using adjbuild.sh and
regenerate JAR files using ADADMIN Jar ( I am so far
assuming that these steps are not necessary after for
rapidwiz install of 11.5.10.2 )Your assumption is right. You do not have to do anything
    2. Do I need to apply the Oracle App 11i 11.5.10.2
Maintenance Pack after installing using RapidWiz from
the main set of CDs labeled as 11.5.10.2No
    3. Should I try by installing manually latest
Jinitiator 1.3.1.21 or 1.3.1.25You do not have to upgrade your jinitiator version unless you want to go with the latest one.
Since (adsign.txt, appltop.cer, and identitydb.obj) do not exist in your system, you just need to initialize the java certificate as follows:
    adjkey -initialize
This will create the following files:
    - adsign.txt directory $APPL_TOP/admin
    - appltop.cer direcotry $APPL_TOP/admin
    - identitydb.obj directory $HOME of the user that launch adjkey
Metalink note: 365735.1 should be helpful.

  • Problem in starting services after rebooting the sap server.

    Hi ,
I got a problem in starting SAP services files in SAP BI system on windows 2003 server. Whenever I reboot the system all sap services failed to start throw a message u201CCould not start SAPBDJ_00 service on local computer. Error 1069: The service did not start due to login failure".
This is the common message for every sap service SAP<SID>_00,SAPOSCOLL,SAPCMSr.01,SAPSMD_98. Until unless I maintain   ./SAPservice<SID> password externally by going through service.msc and g to properties of particular service and g to logon option to maintain password manually to fix this.
./SAPService<SID> user is no locked and password maintained properly also I tried to change the service user to SIDADM user and restarted the server however getting the same problem.
Could not find any fixes in internet so please help me to fix this issue.

  • SAP MMC not showing SID after sap gui install and reboot of the server

Hi,  after SAPGUI 7.10 install on our server and rebooting of the same,  SAP MMC says  u201CMMC could not create the snap-inu201D.
We are desperately trying to find a solution.  We did the following:  Uninstalled the gui.
    1) Uninstalled the SAPMMC snap-in
    2) Re-installed it with the sapmmc_2-20005866.msi.
    3) This automatically created all the required dlls..especially the main ones ..sapmmc.dll,  sapstartsrv.exe in c:\WINDOWS\system32
    4) Copied librfc32.dll from a working system  to c:\WINDOWS\system32 of the system that is having issues
    5) Did the registry setup, by doing REGSVR32 sapmmc.dll, and further did sapstartsrv   -t  and re-created the service with the following parameters:
        <SID>
        01
       START_D*_hostname
       .\SAPService<SID>
       Password:*****
    6) All the services are up and running.
    7) Also did a re-boot, just to check if the registry update needed it, for the changes to be active.
Still facing the same issue  "SAP MMC could not create the snap-in"
    Any input is  appreciated.
    Thanks and regards,

Please help as its on Production Enviornment

    Hi,
but sir by setting /3gb paramter , kernel memory will be reduced by 1 GBYou only need 10-20% of total RAM for the kernel!
It's 4GT! How much RAM is on this server?
A VERY COMMON issue with Oracle 32-bit Windows is that the server has 8 gig RAM, but the SGA only uses 2 gig, leaving huge wasted RAM areas.
See these important notes for sizing your SGA and PGA:
    http://www.dba-oracle.com/art_dbazine_ram.htm
Also note that you do not have to use $GT, you can also use AWE instead:
    http://www.dba-oracle.com/oracle_tips_ram_waste.htm
does it mean windows 32 bit platform is unfit for oracle? All 32-bit systems are constrained by addressable memory (2**32~=2 gig).
To use larger RAM regions, you must employ special tricks In Windows, 4GT or AWE) to move the data buffers "above the line".
    Hope this helps . . .

  • Reboot of Essbase server

Every week we shutdown and startup Essbase (5.0.2 p14) but the machine (IBM RISC 6000 4cpu AIX 4.3.3 O/S) is rarely rebooted. During heavy usage periods we notice that Essbase does go down and we will on occasion reboot the machine and Essbase seems to be fine. Do anyone have any recommendations as to how often a hard boot should occur for the Essbase server? Thanks in advance. Frank Calandra

    Hi Rinku-
Thank You. The details of the issue are provided below. This is especific to windows essbase environment.
We do the export/import reset etc to remove fragmentation and all the other good stuff as mentioned in the dbag, But even then once in a while the system would behave weird -
    1. The export would start but never complete.
    2. Excel retrieves would go on for ever, which other wise would be quick.
    3. Calc's would just run for ever, which other wise complete soon.
    so on....
The log's (essbase and app and windows) do not show any error, the memmory utilization is normal and the cpu is not high either.
If stop/kill the hung process (kill the pid) and start again, it may complete but will re-occur after a sometime (hrs).
If you stop and retstart essbase service and re run the process.......it may complete but will re-occur after a sometime (hrs).
But if the windows box itself is rebooted, the issues seem to be resolved for some days/weeks till it surfaces again.
I read somewhere (and can't find it now) that Hyperion on windows has memmory leak issues.
Does anyone else see a similar trend on windows environment and observes that periodic reboot of windows keeps the hyperion processing happy and smooth for a while?
    Thanks
    NS

  • Reboot mac mini server with ssh?

    Hello,
After trying to update to latest update of Snow my mac mini server doesn't reboot again.
I assume that the update failed and crippled my system.
I only have remote access via ssh.
Is there any way to get the GUI up and running again using ssh?
    Maybe a rollback?
    thanks for any pointers.

However, strange thing now is when I want to select the HD as Destination, I get this message:
" Mac OS X server can't be installed on this disk. A version of Mac OS X was not found "
If this is an official Mac Mini Server and using the provided DVD distribution disk using the documented sequence, then it should load straight away. (If not, call Apple support.)
Using the provided DVD disk via an intermediate system is something I've seen discussed in the forums, (see [here|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12367643] for a discussion, possibly by [connecting into and starting the assistant Mac in Target Disk Mode|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661], and particularly also see [page 38 here|http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/Mac_mini_Late2009_SL_ServerUG.pdf] for one of the official Apple sequences) but not something where I usually immediately recall the sequence. (I usually use an external USB CD drive when I need to do this.)
If this was a Mac Mini box that was upgraded to a Mac OS X Server configuration, then you can need to load the client Mac OS X that arrived with the box, then the server Mac OS X.
