Recompile customize gnome main menu

Whenever I use gnome, one of my main complaints is the main menu applet. Having Applications, places, and system seems a bit redundant to me. While I could just use the other menu applet, I'd prefer it if I could merge places and system so the applet looked like:
[Symbol]Applications System
As far as I understand, I'd have to recompile the applet for this to work but I can't find the source code anywhere and even if I did, I would have no idea where to start.

The applet you are talking about is the "Menu Bar" the "Main Menu" should just be one icon.

Trying to get gnome-main-menu-svn (SLAB) installed from AUR

Having soem troubles installing gnome-main-menu-svn (SLAB) installed from the AUR using yaourt. After getting all the dependencies figured out, there still seems to be problems.
Here is what I have so far:

current revision (451) doesn't work with networkmanager 0.6.6 from extra. Revision 401 from http://svn.gnome.org/svn/gnome-main-menu/branches/gnome-2-22/ works for now.

Any help is appreciated. I really love that menu!

I ran yaourt as root to install gnome-main-menu-svn, and it got past that part. Looks like that was a problem with permissions that also needs to be fixed.
Now its telling me that I don't have a high enough version of libnm-glib, it is asking for >= 0.7.0, and I have 0.6.6. I checked the the repos and there does not seem to be a 0.7.0 version or higher available. A suggestion on the gnome-main-menu-svn package page makes a suggestion, but Im not sure how to go about it

I found a package called networkmanager-beta which seems to be version 0.7.0. Trying to install that with yaourt is unsuccessful as well.

Also had to do yaourt as root to get that far. Why is it that when you use yaourt as root, it advises you to switch to a normal user, and then the packages will not install correctly unless you do?
So far I have been very turned off by the AUR

Gnome, Nautilus / Pcman Main menu Opening Find File instead of Home

Hi there,
I am running two user, mine on Compiz-standalone with Pcman as it's lighter.
The second user is using gnome and therefore need and want to keep using nautilus,
The problem is when trying to open the Home folder from the Gnome main menu, a dialogue box "Find File" is opening instead of the Home folder by Nautilus.
Now after searching the forum, I edited the /usr/share/applications/mime.cache
However this hasn't change the problem, I try restarting the PC for the change to take effect but without success.
Any suggestion on how to resolve this annoying bug?

I am having the same issue, using regular Gnome with Nautilus. I started noticing it after the upgrade to Gnome 2.30. Clicking any of the top section buttons under the Gnome panel's "Places" menu brings up "Find Files" searching inside the folder, instead of Nautilus on the folder. Clicking on "Computer" actually does bring up Nautilus.

How to block the Form Settings for Main Menu to use ONLY "My Menu"?

'My Menu' refers to the third tab on the Main Menu, and the
authorization of 'Organize My Menu' works as below:
- Full Authorization: Allows the user to access the Organize User Menu
window (Tools -> User Menu -> Organize) and customize the menu.
- No Authorization: The user cannot open this window.

No Main Menu

I have a video iPod. When I connect it to iTunes, you usually get the main menu screen- correct? By main menu, I mean the screen where it gives you options like synching you iPod to the library, and there are tabs at the top like videos, photos, etc. When I try going to the main menu, it won't let me. It just automatically go to the songs on the iPod. When I try clicking the black iPod button to the side of my iPod's name under devices, nothing happens.

Thanks for the tip but I am having a difficult time following this. I succeeded one time (but can't remember how I did it) in getting a short movie of my own to play, with sound, in the background, with icons or titles for the movies I am burning to show up on top of this movie of mine playing in the background.
I just tried following the Autostart mini-tutorial but got lost where it says "drag movie as well on to this movie - not in drop zone." It seems no matter where I try to drop it it becomes a added movie. When I went on to page 2 of the tutorial I really got lost.
iDVD Help says: "Note: If you drag your own movie to a motion menu background, the outro is automatically removed. To customize the background and keep the outro, use a still image in the menu background instead of a movie." But where is the "motion menu background?"

Main menu setup

Can you customize the page layout on the new nano aka like on the Touch. On all the previous nano you can set up the main menu as you want it, It doesn't seem to be the case on this nano. Also it doesn't seem to have auto rotate for the screen.

Hold your finger on an icon until they start wiggling. You can then drag icons around and between screens. Press Sleep/Wake button to stop the wiggling.
There is no auto rotate because you might want to clip the device upside-down but want the screen facing you, so you use a two-finger rotate gesture to manually rotate the screen to whatever orientation makes sense for the location you are using it.

Analyzer:Main Menu

Is there a way to customize the Analyzer Main Menu? I have unchecked the toolbar in user preferances and when I did it put the home icon and the arrows into the Main Menu. I would like to be able to add other icons there as well.Thank you for any [email protected]

This is driving me crazy (I see by doing a search that A LOT of people are having the same problem). The ports are on the back of the puter. I have tried both ports and get the same result with each (the device is not recognized). The cable is good (I'm assuming) because I can charge my Nano with the same cable using the same computer ports that won't work with my 5th gen iPod.
I have reset the stupid thing I can't count how many times. I keep getting the device is not recognized message. BTW, I have also uninstalled the mass storage device and reinstalled it even after I checked for updates and was told that the current updates were present.
Can someone please help this poor newbie?

We can create a Custom List to store the menu data, we can set an owner for each item, then customize a menu using jQuery. Then use REST API to get the menu item and check whether the owner is a current user.

I have a new MacBook(2012). Being a new Mac user, I do not know what to do when Safari doesn't open at all. The icon just bounces up and down and when the cursor is on the top main menu bar it is the spinning rainbow wheel. Any ideas for help?

When I try to open safari the icon stats bouncing and then nothing happens other than the cursor turning to a spinning rainbow wheel when it hoovers on the top main menu bar. I have shut down and restart several times. My safari worked yesterday and then today this, but with. I indication of a problem. I can't even get the browser window to open so that I can clear caches or reset anything. When I opened my computer this time I don't even get a bouncing icon. No recognition of selecting the program at all. If I go to spotlight and try to open safari from here I still get no response. Can you help?

If you have moved the Safari application from the Applications folder, move it back.
As far as the cache goes, there's a work around for that when you can't empty the Safari cache from the menu bar.
Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.aple.Safari.Cache.db. Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Try Safari.

Voice memo in main menu

Recently the voice memo option put itself into my main menu after either a sync or a soft reset. Now I can't get rid of it, since it's not in the extras menu as something to check/uncheck. Do I need to restore my iPod to fix this?

Have you tried another soft reset of the iPod again? Usually doing so clears up this issue. Otherwise, if you have, then yes, your next step would be to restore the iPod via iTunes.

depends on how old your Mac is ...
newer machines do not come along with a pre-installed iDVD (.. and iWeb ..) anymore; you have to purchase a boxed version of iLife11.
if somehow iDVD is installed on your Mac, you should find it in your Apps-folder
(or use Spotlight, search for iDVD) ...-

There are some keyboard commands (shortcuts) you can use instead of having to go to the Apple menu -
Control-Eject          This brings up the Restart-Sleep-Cancel-Shutdown window.
Command-Option-Eject          This puts the machine to sleep.
Command-Control-Eject          This closes all apps and restarts the machine.
Command-Option-Control-Eject          This closes all apps and shuts the machine down.

Page Forward & Reverse buttons do not work & are "grayed-out" after upgrading to, as is the Main-Menu Items such as File-Edit-view etc...

After upgrading to Firefox 3.6.12 all functionality appeared to be intact. Then after a few days it lost the ability to "page forward" or to "page back" and are "grayed-out". Additionally, the Main menu items such as File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools & Help are also grayed-out and non-functioning.
Also, the "Search Window" does not search, Web Searches need to be performed from within the URL window instead, for some crazy reason. If the URL window is blank when I enter a search into the actual search window the following appears in the URL window, "Search Bookmarks and History", which makes no sense.
I have noticed similar complaints in this Forum in the past but I have not seen any posted resolution to these issues. Is there a solution?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.<br />

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

Unable to view A/R Invoice form and Main menu

Dear Experts,
I am using 2007 A pl 30. I did allocate the manager for the Professional User, SAP Addons, SDK Tools. When i try to open the A/R invoice form, it is not showing on screen but then it is available in the window drop down menu. Also, the main menu is not showing. The other forms are viewable.

Click on A/R Invoice and Select Windows - Cascade to bring the screen down to normal.
