Recording a desktop movie

Hey, what is a good freeware software that allows you to record movies from your desktop? Thanks

Maybe the SnapZ Pro captured video has a PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio) of 1 instead of 0.9 which it would be for standard NTSC DV.
The solution depends on what you are planning to do with your movie:
If it only has to play on a computer you could import the footage in a custom project (Desktop) where you would set the PAR to 1.
If you plan to output to DV tape or burn a DVD you could resize the video to 640x480 inside a 720x480 frame. That would leave black "pillars" on both sides.
Or you could re-capture at 720x480 with a 0.9 PAR (if SnapZ Pro offers that option). Should the software lack a PAR setting you could instead capture at 720x534.

    - MDM syndicator is the tool to export data in MDM .
    - Data in MDM repository can be viewed and managed in MDM Data manager.
    - What ever data is present in data manager will be exported outside using MDM syndicator.using your search criteria.

I am not able to do it from Syndicator,i tried many options. Some one can help.
    - Master data in MDM rep can be syndicated using MDM syndicator using 2 main formats Flat and XML.
    - For local syndication to your desktop in flat format you need to follow the bewlo steps:
    1) Create destination items manually in Syndicator under destination item tab.
    2) Map this destination item to the source fields whcih are your mdm rep fields.
    3) Use a serach critera if you wnat to filter records.
    4) Click the export button in the syndicator
    5) It will ask for the output file name and format
    6) Give a name and select teh format form dropdown in the window (it can be text, excel.access any thing)
    7) You output file is syndiacted to your local desktop.

  • Captivate will not record ALL screen movements

I have been using Camtashia and recently move to another
company where they want to start using Captivate. I just bought
Captiveate and I am getting very aggrevated! Captivate will not
record all my movements with the mouse or when a screen changes. It
appears that everything is driven by an actual mouse click. Only
when I move my mouse around and then click will it actuall record
    the "action".
Please tell me there is a way for Captivate to record all
mouse movements, keystrokes, changes in applications just as I see
it when I am actually doing the recording.
I dont need all this fancy highlighting and project wizards,
I just simply want Captivate to record EXACTLY what I do and see
    while I am recording.
    PLEASE HELP!

Hi Tmy8ster and welcome to our community
No doubt you are frustrated if you are expecting Captivate to
behave like Camtasia. Yes, both create similar output, but both
accomplish it in entirely different ways.
Perhaps the following link to a thread where I attempted to
    explain it will help:

I upgraded to yosemite and iOS 8 in order to record with quicktime. But when I select Record a new movies I immediately get an Operation Could not be completed error. When I choose record audio or screenshots, I get a little further, but as soon as I select my ipad as the source I get the same error message.

You don't need to be a developer for this to work. I get the same error. Just one more thing on the list that make me upset more and more with Apple. Things just don't work out of the box like they used to.
This new feature was to be included with iOS 8 and Yosemite.

    1. No
    2. You can only transfer a rental to an Apple TV 1, which Apple TV do you have.

  • OSStatus error -108 in QuickTime while trying to record my desktop.

I am getting 'OS Status error -108' in QuickTime (v10) while I am trying to record my desktop.  I get this error as soon as I hit the record button.
Anybody know what this could be? How to fix?

OK just zapped the PRam, no Cigar.
Personally, I did not think it would help. (As previously noted, I tend to agree with those who consider this more of a "contiguous" memory problem.)
see the 10.6.8 was installed freshly about 3 weeks ago.  this MM functions as a server doing faxes, answering machine, print server and a few emails a day (iMovie is not even installed neither is Flip4Mac).  so it is not like in heavy use.  so I fail to see how their can be fragmentation.
Did you "wipe" the drive prior to your install? If not, there is the possibility of carryover fragmentation. I just checked my startup drive and found 709,236 of 1,991,704 items out of optimum order (36%) since my last routine maintainence optimization, drive mechanics test, and general "dusting & cleaning" exercise. Here is the graph:
Of course, I may process an average of 100 GBs to 200 GBs of data during a typical day of copying, converting, and storing video content. (Yesterday was a non-typical day since I had to "panic" backup 597 GBs of DVD images from one RAID drive to another because one array appeared to require reformatting following its latest firmware and dashboard updates. This was in the middle of copying a season of TV shows to my internal drive, converting them for TV use, adding them to my iTunes library, inserting metadata, and proofing the results. In any case, it appears my DroboPro will survive after all since I discovered this morning that the dashboard installer app as released by manufacturer support was probably faulty. (I.e., the embedded PKG file embedded within the installer application was opening Pacifist for installation rather than the Mac OS Installer.app as it should have done. In any case, I extracted the installer package from the app file, corrected the problem, and ran the PKG file manually to save the need of backing up another 7 TBs of data over the next week.)
In any case, to get back to your problem... It may be a good idea to simply see if you can find a program that will graph, disply, or otherwise reveal your current state of fragmentation. If the disk is not fragmented, then you can continue your search for an alternative solution. If it is highly fragmented, then you can try the defragmentation option and see it it works. In either case, it may help others if you post your results here for further review.
    Best of luck...

  • Desktop moves with the arrow & cursor!

I pressed hard on the command key by mistake while doing another function (not sure what) & my  arrow control went out of wack.
When I use one finger on the trackpad and move the arrow or the cursor around,  the whole desktop moves in synch.
It happens with both the trackpad and the mouse..It's irritating and dizzying. I have reset the trackpad and mouse controls, rebooted the system, looked for solutions online, and nothing works. PLZ HLP!

Turn off Zoom from the Universal Access and Keyboard & Mouse panes of System Preferences.

  • Desktop moves all over

I just got on my mac mini in order to look something up, and the entire desktop moves around with the mouse. Yikes! The desktop is on some setting where it seems to be a close-up version, and it moves with the mouse. I have to move around on the desktop to access my control panel at the top of the screen or down to access my dock. Everything is large; the print, the icons, everything. It's terrible to work with like this.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about and how to "undo" whatever made it this way? I haven't been using my mac mini as much since I got my laptop, but my kids use it for their school projects. (They swear they didn't do anything to cause this to happen.) It is not like this on another users's side. It is my work computer, so it needs to be running properly.

    Hi my3kidsmom-
I am glad that it worked for you.

  • Desktop Moves In All Directions

Had my phone shut off today while waiting for Comcast to show up and switch me from Sprint DSL to Comcast DSL and Telephone. At first I didn't know my phone was off and could not connect to the Internet, so I shut off my router and D-Line and turned them on again. I reboot.
Now without using the scrolling or mouse buttons, if I just move my mouse up, down, left or right, the entire desktop moves slightly. Also, I cannot show both my toolbar and the dock (at the bottom) simultaneously as before. Now only one will show up if I move the muose up or down.
I have two displays, a Dell 20" wide screena nd an ADC, 19". Have been using them for months. If I move the muose to the right, part of the left display moves over to the right display, and vice versa. I tried using Disk Utility to no avail. Total movement is about one inch.
An help would sure be appreciated with this unique problem.

Try holding down the control key while moving the scrolling mouse button. Zoom all the way out.

  • How can I record parts of movies with Quicktime on my i5 Macbook Pro?

I love the options Quicktime offers me in screen recording. Before I went over to the "Mac-Side" I played around with different Windows-based screen recording software but couldnt find any that offered seamless recording. Quicktime gives me just that. My problem, however, is this. Whenever I try to record a movie or video clip with screen recording, all I can see of the video is a bunch of white and grey blocks. Why is this? Is there an option I need to click or a specific resolution I need to record in so I can clip parts of videos?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not that way, no.  As to how you could do it, the hosts here don't like discussion of such things...  Movie studios would be disturbed at the idea of putting their movies in the iTunes Store if the Apple site was being used to discuss potential piracy methods.
So, I could tell you, but then they'd have to kill you.  (Or remove my post maybe. )

  • Record to Desktop in Premiere / OnLocation MIA?

With the CS5 suite I was able to use OnLocation to capture video via a connected camcorder.  And that was super.  However, OnLocation seems to be missing in CS6.  Has it been retired or is there a replacement or updated feature in Premiere that takes over OnLocation's utility?
If OnLocation has been nixed, Is there a way to do this same basic function (capture video and sound to the desktop via a connected camcorder) in Premiere CS6?  What makes this more complicated is the fact that NO camcorders using flash / SD cards seem to have firewire ports and only come with USB connections - and video will not stream through USB.
The camcorder I happen to be using does have an HDMI-out port.  If I connect the camcorded to my computer using an HDMI cable, will Premiere CS6 pick up the feed?  And further, will "Capture" actually record the video feed?  What about audio?
    Any feedback would be helpful!

    @ Jim,
Of course.  But that is not the only use/purpose for firewire.  Your'e assuming there is no desire to stream a video feed directly to the computer's hard drive.  Many times its is preferable to bypass the whole file-transfer process, especially if recording times are particularly long and there is risk of running out of space on an SD card.  Chances are, your hard drive is going to have more available space.  Feeding video through to something like OnLocation directly also gives you a little bit of extra control over the camera/video, along with being able to view the video feed fullscreen, which can come in quite handy.

  • Folders on Desktop move when file dragged to them

With Firefox 3 we now see an annoying behaviour in the Finder (MacOS 10.4.11.) When the Desktop has "Keep arranged by..." turned off (necessary due to the Finder's slow refresh in MacOSX), if we drag an image from Firefox onto the closed folder the folder moves. In some instances it moves to the center of the screen (so it's then hidden behind the browser window) and in others it moves to the location where it was created. This happens with images (gif, png, jpg...) but not with dragged text or links.
We deleted all our .DS_Store files and Finder prefs/plists but folders still move when an image is dragged to them. We see this on both our two MacBook Pros, and even with a newly created account.
A workaround is to use "Save Image As..." instead of dragging but ten+ years of habit and muscle memory make this undoable.
Has anyone else seen this and can anyone suggest a solution?

Not a solution but possible prevention:
Performance tip: Keep the Desktop clutter-free (empty, if possible)
Mac OS X's Desktop is the de facto location for downloaded files, and for many users, in-progress works that will either be organized later or deleted altogether. The desktop can also be gluttonous, however, becoming a catch-all for files that linger indefinitely.
Unfortunately - aside from the effect of disarray it creates - keeping dozens or hundreds of files on the Desktop can significantly degrade performance. Not necessarily because the system is sluggish with regard to rendering the icons on the desktop and storing them in memory persistently (which may be true in some cases), but more likely because keeping an excessive number of items on the Desktop can cause the windowserver process to generate reams of logfiles, which obviously draws resources away from other system tasks. Each of your icons on your desktop is stored as a window in the window server, not as an alias. The more you have stored, the more strain it puts on the window server. Check your desktop for unnecessary icons and clear them out.
Keeping as few items as possible on the Desktop can prove a surprisingly effective performance boon. Even creating a single folder on your Desktop and placing all current and future clutter inside, then logging out and back in can provide an immediately noticeable speed boost, particularly for the Finder.
And it is why Apple invented 'Stacks' for Leopard.
