Recovering carrier signal from AM demodulation

Hi everybody
I am trying to implement a full AM system I able to modulate and demodulate the baseband signal but could not create carrier signal. So any help would be thankful....Niladri

Hello Ramsey,
I assume you are trying to capture these AM signals and compare their relative phases all against each other. Sort of like saying the AM 1300 carrier is X degress in phase different from the AM 1530 carrier.
This is what I would do. I would use the full PXI-5661 RF analyzer and capture the entire AM band in the acquisition. This is roughly a 1 MHz bandwidth. At this low bandwidth, a low IQ sample rate can be used with the PXI-5661 (1.25 MSamples/sec gives the PXI-5661 a 1 MHz IQ data BW). With this low IQ rate, you could actually stream the entire AM band to hard drive for some time.
Since you have recorded the AM band to disk for a period of time, you can extract all the relative phase information you want. And the receiver reference is the same for all acquired data so the only variation will be due to the Tx side.
Look at this example:

  • Recovering audio signal from PCM stream

Hi i want to recover an audio signal from a PCM stream which is being transmitted by a third party  system  on RS 422 wires. the only information i have about the PCM stream is
    sampling freq              16kHz
    bits                                 8
    quantization tech          u Law qunatization
over all PCM data transmmison vlaue mentioned  is 2.408 M bits
please suggest me if it is doable or not . further more suggest the proper NI hardware as  well as software modules required to achive this. will NI 9401 do this job

    Tirmizi,
I think it may be possible.  You could not use a 9401 but if you had a USB to RS-422 converter you could probably read the PCM data into LabVIEW using VISA functions.
If you can successfully import your data to LabVIEW, I found a similar forum post that explains the functions in LabVIEW to use to create a .wav file and what you can do with it:

    Hi Samantha,
Are you aware that if you restore your ipad that you will lose all data from your ipad and very difficult to get it back unless you had previously made a back-up of your data on itunes or in the cloud. and that would be on the computer you set those up on. (There are some independent apps out there that might help restore data but I don't have any experience with them...)
Also, I think if you restore on another computer you're supposed to have administrator rights and have the latest itunes update. And I think if you sync (if restoring is considered syncing with another computer, you'll be locked out of your computer or a new one.)
I don't know if there is a way for you to safely eject your ipad from your mom's laptop and find another way, but please read this
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1275
Also, I suggest you start a new post and title it something like First, stuck on update and now on Restore on another computer. Please HELP! And then tell the story of your problem that you originally included and your follow-up efforts to restore given a suggestion on previous post (though I think you SHOULD AVOID RSTORE if you can.) And refer them to your original post
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/22050045?ac_cid=tw123456#22050045
Hope this helps and if you can get back to your ios before the upgrade, stay with it. I hope it all works out for you.
FYI - If it's a new or refurb bought within the past year you might be able to have it replaced by Apple.

  • Powerbook G4 Can't "See" Wireless Signal from Ubee Modem/Router

I was given a G4 Powerbook while out of town and it found the wireless signal in an apartment complex and a major airport just fine. But upon returning home it can't "see" the signal from my (Time Warner, Road Runner Extreme) Ubee modem/router. My Mac Mini's Airport sees the Ubee wireless signal fine, but the older Powerbook G4 can't. (The Airport signal in the menu bar has "bars" but they are grayed out.
Can an older G4 connect with the newer Ubee modem/router? Are there security settings that will allow this?
    Tx,
    WK

CRMDVM -- Thanks for the helpful info -- you are probably right on both counts:
The apartments where I picked up a signal is in an "old folks" apt. complex, meaning the router I was picking up was probably old -- compatible with the G4 lineage. And the Atlanta airport probably has a wireless system to allow the vast number of old and new computers that people carry to connect.
My Mac Mini connects via WPA2 Personal security code, and I set the G4 to the same security (in the Network preference pane) but still nothing. The Airport wireless icon in the menu bar is still grayed out -- it isn't the "blank" icon as when Airport is turned off. It has the wireless wave lines in the icon, but just grayed out.
Maybe the G4 is just too old to "see" the newer wireless signal from the new modem/router.
Thanks again for your help -- you definitely provided more than I knew. (btw, I'm just above you in Union County in Stallings).

  • Monitor not receiving signal from computer

I have an Envy 700-074 and I bought a EVGA Geforce GTX 660 (Superclocked) video card to use with it this past July.  It worked very well for the past few months until mid-September when I started having problems while play WOW (I had no problems playing other games that required more video than WOW or in doing my 3d rendering). So two days ago I contacted Blizzard support for advice and they told me to run this display driver uninstaller from guru 3d to totally remove the nvidia drivers from my computer and then reinstall them fresh.  Well when I ran the driver remover program, my screen went black and now I can't get any display response at all from my computer.  The monitor says it is receiving no signal from my computer.  I tried with both a DVI hookup and a VGA hookup and got same response.  Please tell me what I can do to fix this. I need my computer.

    Hello @Eanori,
Yes re-formatting should get you your drivers back and at the very least give you a clean build to work from. I am going to provide you with all the steps to backup and recover your computer back to factory settings. To backup your personal information and ensure that it is not lost I would like you to review and follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Backing Up Your Files (Windows 8), which will ensure your personal files are up to date.

  • Can the microphone jack input be configured for a stereo signal from a tape deck without overloading

Can the Microphone jack input on the HP Pavilion dv6  be configured to take in a stereo signal from a tape deck without overloading the microphone jack, i.e., so it acts as a Line In jack?.  The jack is too sensitive to accept the typical signal from a tape deck or stereo tape out jack from an audio receiver, and the incoming sound is overloaded and distorted.  Also, connecting from a stereo receiver headphone jack so the level can be controlled to the laptop microphone jack lowers the signal strength but contains a lot of background hum.  Any way to configure the microphone jack to have it work as a line in jack?

There're two ways to connect it. One is through the digital output ( which is the same as the front line out on the Audigy and is a different jack on the Audigy 2 series ) or through the front line out.
In either case, you need a stereo mini-plug to phono x 2 connector adapter cable.
In the case of a digital connection, only one of the plugs will carry the signal. For analogue connections, simply plug the two phono outputs into the L/R phono inputs on yer receiver.

  • How do I recover deleted notes from the cloud?

How do I recover deleted notes from the cloud?

Please note that these instructions (suggestions) have not yet been confirmed to work. I have however provided similar instructions for recovering contacts, calendars etc, which have.
The difficulty in restoring iCloud data from a back up is that the back up is older than the current version on iCloud and anything that is restored gets removed again when an iCloud sync occurs.
Recovering your notes is quite time consuming, you may wish not to save all your notes to save some time, if they are not of importance.
Ensure the device is connected to your local network.
Start the restore from iCloud back up.
Allow the devices settings to restore (watch for the confirmation of completion).
As the apps begin to restore pull the connection to your router WAN port (the one that goes to the telephone point).
Wait for the time out confirmation.
Open the 'Notes' app, and open your first note (assuming your deleted notes have now been restored).
Select the share option at the foot of the screen (rectangle with arrow) and choose mail.
Send the email to yourself (If they won't send, save them to draft)
Repeat steps 7 & 8, until you have copied all the notes you wish to save to email.
Reconnect the router to the internet and let the restore process complete.
Navigate to settings > iCloud and make sure 'Notes' syncing is enabled.
Open the 'Notes' app, check that iCloud notes have reverted to how they were before starting the restore.
Open the 'Mail' app and open the first email you sent yourself and copy the text you want in the note.
Open the 'Notes' app and create a new note in the iCloud, paste the text you copied.
Go to iCloud.com on a computer and check that the note has synced to iCloud.
Repeat steps 12, 13 & 14 until you have recovered all your notes.
May I suggest that you carry out a back up to iTunes before you try anything, that way should things become even worse, you can at least restore back to where you are now.

  • Signals from multiple base stations

This may be a very naive question, but here goes. I have a new Mac that supports WiFi 802.11ac. I'd like to replace my current Airport Extreme with the latest model, so I can take advantage of what I assume will be a faster speed. But I have an Airport Express base station (1st generation) that won't support ac. How can I be sure that my Mac receives the signal from the Airport Extreme and not from Airport Express?
    Thank you.

Your original question was how to make sure that your Mac would connect to the faster "ac" wireless signal that a new AirPort Extreme would provide.
Since the "ac" signal is carried only on the 5 GHz signal, assigning a separate name to that signal would allow you to always have your Mac connect to the faster wireless signal.
If you did not assign a separate name to the 5 GHz network on the new Extreme, then your Mac would connect to the strongest signal.....either the AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme depending on where the Mac was in relation to the AirPort router.
So, if the Mac was picking up the stronger signal from the AirPort Express, you would lose connection speed, since the AirPort Express does not have "ac" wireless capability.
Are you saying that, without buying a new Airport Extreme, setting up the separate network will just make file copying faster?
Whether you buy a new AirPort Extreme or not, having your Mac connect to the 5 GHz signal will insure that it is operating at the fastest available speed.
The point that I was making was whether you continue to use your older AirPort Extreme or buy a new product........the Internet connection speed on your network will be controlled by your Internet Service Provider and the connection speed plan that you have with them.
It's nice to know that a new AirPort Extreme might be able to produce a wireless signal at a speed of 900 Mbps.  But.....if your Internet connection speed is 30 Mbps, that is the fastest speed that your network will operate when you are connected to the Internet.
Buying a new router will not improve your Internet connection speed.  Even your current AirPort is capable of producing a faster signal than your Internet Service Provider can ever hope to deliver.
Think of your "local" network speed as if it were water moving through a fire hose.  Think of your "Internet" speed as if it were water delivered by a garden hose.
You can connect a garden hose to a fire hose with the right adapter.......but you will not get any more water out of the fire hose than the garden hose can deliver.

  • Wireless signal from iMac to TV?

I have a new 20" iMac G5 isight on the way and have a question. Has anyone tried to hook up the iMac (or other mac) wireless to your TV. There is products like this www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000068TYR
ref=erra_acc_dp1/026-6032989-4654855 that will send a signal from your antenna to your TV wirelessly. I thought mabye in combination with a TV tuner like EZ there would be a way to get the signal from the mac to the TV. That way I dont have to drill a cabel-hole in my livingroom floor down to my office to enjoy FrontRow on my TV. Or is there any other solutions/suggestions?
(And i dont think there will be an Airport Express A/V launched next week... though I wish!)

You should be able to connect your ATV directly to your iMac using Internet sharing, but you can't use the same NIC that the iMac is using for its connection. If your iMac is connected to your router by wi-fi, you can share the Ethernet port with the ATV. If your iMac is connected to your router by Ethernet cable, you can share your iMac's AirPort with the ATV.

    Hi Ashwin,
It is a good idea to first be able to communicate with the microcontroller using some sort of serial communication software such as "HyperTerminal" or "Procomm", etc. Refer to MicroChip's recommendations on this.
Once that works, then you are ready to use LabView.
Here is a link which covers many aspects of serial communication. Link - click here
You probably received a development kit. They usually have a readily available interface. It's been a long time since I played with the PIC, but I seem to remember that you need to program the serial communication driver (as well as at least a bootloader) to get the serial communication going. The driver contains the necessary protocols so that you PC can have a machine conversation with the target (PIC).
It sounds like a fun & interesting project. Please avoid to have replies to your personal email. By having the answers posted to this thread, you will get much more support and advice.

Getting Started with Labview.pdf ‏901 KB

    Hi Ashwin,
I am not familiar with the PIC Microcontrollers, but I am assuming you mean that you have the microcontroller sending out serial data that you want to read on another computer with LabVIEW. Please let me know if this is incorrect.
What type of data is coming out of the serial port? Is it ASCII, or binary? The reason I ask this is that the serial communication in LabVIEW is done through a protocol called VISA, which uses ASCII data to send and receive. You can later convert this data into whatever form you need, but this is what it is designed to read and write.
You can check the settings such as baud rate and data bits in a configuration utility called Measurement and Automation Explorer, or MAX. When you open up the MAX interface, you can expand the Devices and Interfaces entry on the left, and then expand the Ports entry to see your serial port. When you highlight this port, select the Port Settings tab at the bottom of the window, and you can see what the current settings are, and change them if you need to. You can also set these parameters in LabVIEW using the VISA Configure Serial Port VI.
You can also test communication in MAX by right clicking on the correct port and choosing Open VISA Session. Then choose the Basic I/O light blue tab, and then go to the Read tab. When you click execute, it should read in what is coming from the serial port. This will allow you to verify that the correct information is coming in before even trying to acquire the data in the LabVIEW environment.
In LabVIEW, the best resource to use the Basic Serial Write and Read example program that ships with LabVIEW. By examining the block diagram of this program, you will be able to see the basic programming flow of serial communication in LabVIEW.
I hope this information was helpful! Please let us know if there's anything else we can help with.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Lie detector systems (polygraphs) generally work by looking at the physiological responses to the own subjects baseline, and do this in real-time.  You could use a file that represents the stored "baseline" for the subject, but the overall environment, circumstances, general state of the subject, etc. may not be similar enough to easily see subtle changes.
From the stored file, you might determine a set of parameters or thresholds that indicate "normal, relaxed" for each signal.  You could read the file into your LabVIEW program, process each channel, and save these parameters.  Then when you have the new data, you can read the new data file in and process it in a similar way and then determine whether the parameters are outside the limits that you established for a "lie".
