Recurrent problem vacation message flooding

Hello
this system solaris 9 has a recurrent problem this happens ponctually:
the problem is one person, begins receiving without any apparent reason a flood of out of office messages. sometimes it jsut 30, sometimes 5000 messages that arrive for one person in holiday but these messages should not be sent because.
this is the version of the messaging server.
Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.2-6.01 (built Apr 3 2006)
libimta.so 6.2-6.01 (built 11:20:35, Apr 3 2006)
SunOS mailserv 5.9 Generic_118558-11 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V440
patching is not up to date because server is being upgraded i wonder if there's a possible work around so that a ooo message is sent once per recipient and not 2 per minute as sometimes seems to be the case

hello
the messages are from the same domain,
in some cases it is sent to an outside domain
the person receiving the messages claims that she has never sent an email to the person that is flooding her inbox with Out of Office Messages.
