Recurring iCal to-do's

I would like Automator to add a to-do event (with due date) in iCal every week. Can anyone tell me how to do that?

Well, I do it with AppleScript rather than Automator. Here is what I do.
So, as an example, I have a calendar in iCal called "Ongoing Tasks". I want to remind myself to pay the kids allowance every Saturday. So, I have created a recurring appointment in this calendar called "Pay kids allowance" that is set to occur every Saturday at 10:00 a.m. It has an alarm, set to "Run Script"; the script is called "PayKidsAllowance", and this is the code for the script:
tell application "iCal"
set newtodo to (make new todo at end of todos of calendar "Ongoing Tasks")
tell newtodo
set summary to "Pay Kids Allowance"
set due date to current date
make new display alarm at end with properties {trigger interval:0}
end tell
end tell
And this code creates a new To Do with a due date of the date that the script is run. So, in effect, it creates a new To Do every Saturday morning with that date as the due date to remind me to pay the allowance.
I hope that helps . . .

  • Setting a recurring iCal event

How do I set a recurring event on 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month?
    I'm using iCal 3.0.8

Make an event on the 2nd Tuesday of the month, set it to repeat monthly, then set it to custom repeat and choose 2nd Tuesday. Close the event, drag it to the desktop, and delete it from iCal. Open the desktop copy with TextEdit (or similar) and find the line that reads
    RRULE:FREQ=MONTHLY;INTERVAL=1;BYDAY=2TU
(it will be near the end of the file) and change it to
    RRULE:FREQ=MONTHLY;INTERVAL=1;BYDAY=2TU,4TU
Drag it back to iCal and delete the desktop copy.

  • Missing recurring events with iCal

    Hello All,
I am having problems with synching recurring iCal events to my Nokia 6600 and was wondering whether someone could point me in the right direction. All other events (non recurring) seem to come over just fine but the problem seems to be with anything that has been set to repeat yearly. I am using Tiger OS with all the latest updates.
    Appreciate any help in advance.
    Cheers,
    Vincenzo.

I'm having the same trouble. I noticed it will put a recurring event in but it will only appear for about 2 months. This only happens with events that are marked as whole day. If you put in a time such as 12:00 till 12:01, then it will repeat properly.

  • ICal questions, maybe going into applescript question

Hello, I am trying to create a recurring ICAL event with different titles for a time period.  It is simple, I want on monday of everyweek tor 7 monthes to read, week1, week2, week3 etc.  Is this possibe in ICAL, or possible via applescript (beginner applescripter)?
    Thanks!

All do-able in DVDSP... and pretty easy to do as well.
You can create the menus with links to the chapters in your track (which will play the chapter and then continue), you can set the chapters into stories and point the menu buttons to those instead and you can set each story to go back to the right menu.
You can then point a play all button at the track itself, which will then play all... which hopefully answers mish's question as well as yours.
Much of this is in the tutorials that come with DVDSP, and it is well worth your time going through those if you haven't already moved up to DVDSP. There is a lot of help available on this forum as well, mind you!

  • Can a single instance of a recurring event be modified?

I would like to be able to modify a single instance of a recurring event? Is
this possible in iPlanet Calendar Server 2.x?<BR>
    <P>
iPlanet Calendar Server 2.x allows the user to modify a single instance
of a recurring event through the User Interface (UI).
    <P>
When you create a recurring event from the UI, it automatically treats
each date of the recurring event as its own event. Each event has its own
    set of data.
    <P>
When you click on a single instance of an event, it will display the current
data. If you want to modify the single instance, the UI allows you to apply
your changes to this instance only OR all future instances.

I've worked it out myself. Once a recurring ical event has been edited ical ask if you would like to affect just this instance or all future instances. This is not perfect though because if I ticked/checked the 'all day event' box I wasn't asked this question so a bit disappointing there. Anyway, I think it would be a good idea for ical to ask you what you want to edit BEFORE you edit it, therefore you can edit with a bit more confidence that you won't mess up future entries.

  • How to automize Self-control [Internet blocker] / bypassing password request?

    Hey  there,
I hope someone on here may be able to help with this. I figured it might be good to ask about this on a popular board geared towards general non-technical user like myself.
I use  the app SelfControl [http://selfcontrolapp.com]  to help me manage my internet addiction. The app's great. It really helps--when it's running.
I've been trying to set it up so it automatically starts at certain times of the day [i.e. every day 10pm-7am], Using the guide found here [ http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20100801214648362,] I've been able to integrate SelfControl into my iCal, to set it up as a recurring iCal event.
But SelfControl requires my admin password to  actually initiate the the internet block. So right now, I have to manually enter the password every time iI want to run SelfControl--even when it's automatically launched as an event from iCal. This kind of makes the app useless as I can just not enter the password and continue surfing endlessly.
Basically, I need  some help figuring how to bypass the password request/have it inputted automatically. I did try following the instructions found in the above link about using keychain access, etc but none of it seemed to work--SelfControl still prompts me for my password.
I am hoping someone here can help me out; the instructions in the above page are a little too technical for me to fully comprehend (and the forum linked above is now permanently closed)
I'm the only user of my laptop, if that makes a  difference. I am running OS 10.10.1 Yosemite.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks,
    Kursty

  • Roll Over Events on Icloud

HOw can you set roll over events on the icloud calendar?

Yup... ever since yesterday, Jan 25th... but I think this is only limited to repeating events.  I get an error message stating I don't have access to these events in my calendars and this displays on my MacBookPro.  When I try to delete repeating events from my iPad, they all get re-created on their own and now as duplicates.  I can't even delete these events directly on iCloud/Safari... returning a SERVER ERROR message and a button - which I've selected - giving me the option of reporting this to Apple.
I guess that for the time being, I'll make no recurring iCal entries until Apple decides to fix this glitch.
It's inconvenient but not catrostrophic, at least not for me.
    Let us all pray!

  • ICal - recurring "server responded with an error" message

After years of using iCal without problems, (except for some recent duplicate alarms), a recurring error message has suddenly started popping up. It says:
"The server responded with an error.
Access to account "***@me.com" is not permitted.
    The server responded:
    "HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden"
    to operation CalDAVAccountRefreshQueueableOperation."
I use MobileMe to sync calendars with an iMac, iPhone, iPad and recently added a MacBookPro. I haven't changed anything other than adding the Macbook. MobileMe seems to be syncing just fine. iCal is operating normally, all of the calendars and info are there. I checked iCal > preferences > accounts and the MobileMe account information and password is entered correctly, ...but the error message is constantly popping up. Can someone help me resolve this?
    Thx.

Are you using MobileMe Calendar Beta?
First make an iCal backup, File > Export > Archive.
Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
__NOTE: Removing these files will remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
Once the computer is back up and running open iCal and test.
    Hope that helps.

  • Why is ical adding multiple alerts to my recurring events?

I have searched for this issue in the support topics but can only find very old threads with links to apps that do not work.  My recurring events in ical are all of a sudden getting many many alerts added to them.  Every once in while I try deleting the event and creating a new one, or deleting the extra alerts for all future events and YET THEY KEEP COMING BACK.  It's super annoying when I am getting 10 reminders for one event and have to clear each one of them.  PLEASE HELP!

Thanks Malcolm.I'm afraid this issue started for me after updating to iOS6!

  • HT2513 Problem Creating Recurring Events in iCal.

    Hello.
I'm having some issues creating a recurring event in one of my iCoud Calendars on iCal.
If I create a new event then go in and change the recurrance, time, and name it stays in my iCal for a few seconds then defaults back to a basic appointment with no name, time, or recurence. I then need to go back into the event and reprogram everything. It will then save the changes.
Its a little annoying as I need to reprogram the even and save it twice.
Has anyone had this problems, and could offer assistance?
    Thank You!

The same thing happened to me! I'm in another discussion thread about this and it seems many people have the same problem and it all started about a week ago

  • Deleting a recurring event in iCal

Situation; iphone 5 recurring event wont delete.  looking at same calendar on a synced PC (work) the event is not there at all.
If you are having trouble deleting a recurring event in iCal try this:
on your iphone change the event "alert" or "show as" setting on one of the events in the future.  The event that wasn't showing on the PC outlook calendar magically shows up now.  delete it from the PC by opening it and choosing the X delete for all occurances (if its asks).
Now open the event in iCal and you should see the Accept Maybe Decline option at the bottom - choose decline.  you may have to do this on several dates, but that should delete the event.
    Hope this helps.

    pedfogog,
... or whoever may find this post in need of assistance as I was.
I just had this same problem and successfully deleted ALL event (past and future)instances by :
    1. Click on any instance of the event in the calendar
    2. Select "Delete" from the iCal toolbar "Edit" menu.
    3. The iCal propmt asked me to choose to delete all or just the one instance.
    4. Naturally, select to "Delete all occurrences"
    I am running OS 10.6.8   iCal 4.0.4

  • When I update a recurring event on my iPhone, it does not make changes to the calendar in ical or icloud.  Is anyone else having this issue?

Updating a recurring event on my iPhone does not update the event in either ical or icloud.  If I add a new event on the iPhone it updates right away.  Is this a known problem?  Should I get rid of the recurring event and just make changes day to day manually?  I like having the recurring event set for my work schedule because it rarely changes, but when it does, I'd like to use my iPhone for the updates instead of carrying around my MAC Book all the time.
    Thank you!

After connecting to iTunes, I noticed that "Back up to iCloud" was selected (in the middle of the screen on the "Summary" tab, under "Backup"), and "Last backed up to iCloud" reflected the time that I attempted to back up from my phone. Even now, the phone still says "Last Backup: Never," so there is clearly a disconnect. Hopefully Apple will fix this soon.

  • Why does iCal not provide for recurring To Do's?

I recently installed Leopard on my iMac and MacBook Pro, which instantly killed my ability to sync with my Blackberry via Pocket Manager for Mac. I thus purchased and installed Missing Sync, which seems to work ok, but is far from a straightforward solution. Missing Sync does not synch directly between the Blackberry device and Entourage, but instead circuitously syncs the two via the iCal application. This limits the capability of Entourage to what is available in iCal.
Given that situation, I find iCal has at least one glaring omission. While Entourage allows for recurring dates on a Task, iCal does not on its To Do's--and thus resets all Entourage Tasks to single occurrence upon a sync. The workaround seems to be to create the recurring item as a Calendar Event, which does allow for recurrence in iCal, as opposed to creating it as a task. The downside in this is that there is no To Do List view which shows these items.
Any solution other than the above workaround? Any plans to fix this?

I also would like to see recurring To Do's. I know that you can do recurring events in iCal but that clutters up my calendar. I am a homemaker/housewife and when I used microsoft office then I had all sorts of recurring to do's (i.e. change out furnace filters, pet medicines, order new credit report, etc). When i would complete the to do then it would automatically reenter a new one for 1 month, 3 months, 1 year (whatever I had set for that particular item). Is Apple every going to incorporate this into there To Do list. And also I would like to see the To Do's on the iPhone just like you can see the notes.
