Redirect rule doesn't preserve reply-to address

I am trying to create a rule that redirects messages based on message content. The incoming message has a "no-reply" From address and a separate reply-to address. If you click the redirect this message manually to someone else and they reply to it, it's addressed to the reply-to address. But if you use a rule to redirect the message, the reply is addressed to the original (no-reply) sender. The reply-to address gets stripped out somehow. Can anyone help with this?

Has yours ever worked?
I tried with:
If all conditions
Any recipient contains (one of my email addresses)
perform
set color of background (grey)
redirect message to (another of my email addresses)
For matching email addresses contains is better than is equal to. Post your rule and maybe someone will spot the problem.

  • How to create rule based on Reply-To address

Hi, I'm just switching to mac from ubuntu in my workplace.
I received two mailing lists, any mail have the same Reply-To: header for each mailing list.
It's possible to automatically move that mail to another mail folder in Thunderbird, by using rule with Reply-To: address.
I looked for that header in Apple Mail rule, but failed to find. Is there any way to move mails of mailing list automatically?

    Thanks for replying.
    Unfortunately, that did not work.
I'm using OS with my own language setting, Korean, and the mail program show the major headers like From: , To:, Subject:, Reply-To: and so on. I tried to use "edit header.." with the original name, Reply-To, and the Korean translation, but neither worked.
Anyway, I found other solution. gmail server could filter the messages by searching specific header name and values for the mailing list. I wiped out the rules in Apple Mail client, and add filter rule in gmail server.

  • Mail rule autoreply ignores 'reply-to' address

    Hi all
I've just discovered that when setting a Mail Rule with the action 'reply to message', the generated reply always goes to the original sender, completely ignoring the 'reply-to' address.
This is causing me problems - when Paypal emails me saying I've received money for my business, I have an autoreply set up to send the purchaser a download link - but that goes to a generic '[email protected]' address not the purchaser's address (which Paypal put in the 'reply to' field.).
Any ideas on a way round this?
    Thanks - Jon

Here is a screen shot of the Mail Rule:
Here is a screen shot of how I receive emails from Paypal:
As we had both explaied, the incoming notifications from Paypal now use a generic********* for the return address, and insert the actual customer email address in the reply to field.  Our question is how can we force Apple Mail to use the reply to field as the email address used in auto replies.

  • Transport rule doesn't work (trying to prepend a subject when mail comes to a second domain).

This is an SBS2011 and accepts mail for two mail domains (successfully), but I am trying to phase out one of the two domains.
I cannot find a better way to do it, but I have simply created this rule:
    priority 0
    when a recipient's address contains '@<olddomain>.gr'
prepend message subject with '[GR!] '
    It doesn't do anything.
It's not a matter of restarting services or waiting for some kind of replication. This rule is created (and is enabled yes) more than a month.
    Any ideas?
EDIT: In Message Tracker, I find a test message has the following entry just after receiving from remote mail server:
"The e-mail address for recipient "<myself>@<olddomain>.gr" was updated to the e-mail address "<myself>@M<newdomain>.com". The message is in the process of being delivered.
...then I have the successful delivery, without transport rule kicking in.
So is the problem related to the recipient having BOTH email addresses set? Then why system replaces the old with the default? Probably this is why the rule doesn't kick (as it doesn't match any more).
Is there a way to prevent this replacement, since I want the recipients to still get reached by the mail?
    NLS

    Hi NLS,
I would like to verify if you apply the rule for your primary email address.
You can try to use the following cmdlet to achieve your goal.
New-TransportRule -Name 'New Rule' -Comments 'Comment' -HeaderContainsMessageHeader 'Received' -HeaderContainsWords 'olddomain.com'-FromAddressContainsWords
    '[email protected]' -PrependSubject "OLDDOMAIN"
    Hope it helps.
If you need further assistance, please feel free to let me know.
    Best regards,

  • Mail redirect rule only works with "every message"?

I have been trying to redirect selected mail from a pop account to another email address. it only seems to work if I select the Every Message condition. If I try to use a condition like "From Contains Newberg" in the rule, the mail is not redirected.

    Thanks for the welcome!
Ok so here are some screenshots...
Here is the screenshot of the rule details
Here is the main rules window
And here is a screenshot showing how some are redirected and some are not (the ones that are redirected (and the one that shows the forward icon (it was forwarded before I set up the redirect rule)) are all from the same domain as my email account.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Redirect Rule - Delivery has failed to these recipients or groups

First of all my apology if this is wrong Forum. Please guide me to correct forum.
Scenario is that we need to send emails to AD Group using C# code or script.
First we tried C# code and it don't work, as per our finds, log in / password is required. Also, it was taking to much time because of protocol  and we need to send 10 to 15 emails at same time.
We tried script and this time we created a mail box say, temp. We send emails to temp and added rules on bases of subjects of emails.
Now, issue is if we setup forward rule, temp is able to forward email to AD group. If we setup redirect rule, email is not send to AD Group and temp received failure delivery.
Delivery has failed to these recipients or groups:
    AD Group Name
Your message can't be delivered because delivery to this address is restricted.
For more information about this issue see DSN code 5.7.1 in Exchange Online.
We even made temp owner of AD group.
    Any help?
    http://farhanfaiz.wordpress.com

    Hi malikfarhan
I understand that delivery has failed to those recipients or groups when you setup the redirect rule.
Based on my research, you could have a try as follows
Open the EAC, navigate to Recipients > Groups.
In the list of groups, click the distribution group that you want to view or change, and then click Edit
icon .You can go to properties for DG, -> Select Delivery management ->Senders inside and
outside of my organization , Click on Save.
You can further limit who can send messages to the group by allowing only specific senders to send messages to this group. Click
Add + and then select one or more recipients.
For more details, you could click this link: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124513.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
I am glad to be of help to you .

  • Yahoo! Mail Plus and Reply-to address

I am a Yahoo! Mail Plus subscriber, and am able to send emails with various verified addresses, when using the Yahoo Mail Web interface.
My account serves as a collection point for primary mail (which originally goes to a spam service, and in turn is redirected to Yahoo Mail), and some other redirects. I then can check all mail here, and reply with various Reply-to addresses, which are what the recipients see.
But in iPhone Mail using the YahooMail set up, I am only able to specify the default yahoo address, which I never use as a visible "reply to" address.
Does anyone have a fix or suggestion how to solve this?
    Peter in Munich

There's a setting in your "Mail" settings that says "show To:cc label". I have that turned ON.
Now, when I go to an email, and reply to it, I can just Tap the "cc/bcc/from" field with my finger, and it suddenly expands the cc, bcc, and from fields onto their own lines.
The "from" field is now editable.
Touch it, and you get a nice list selection to send 'from' any of your configured email accounts.
    Does that work for you?

  • Email Redirection Rule Issue

We have on premise Exchange Server 2013. when creating an email redirection rule, the rule works just fine. the emails coming to certain recipients will be diverted to one service account. so far so good. but after some time (two to four weeks) the redirection
stops and the only way to overcome this is by deleting and recreating the rule.
    Appreciate any tips

    Hi,
first of all we should have to check whether the transport rule is applying or not .
That can be achieved via transport pipeline logs and also by message tracking .
You have said on your rule a email to specific recipients will be redirected to a single service account.
1.Just enable the transport pipeline for the anyone of the recipient mentioned on the rule. Then check the logs you will came to know whether transport rule is applying or not .
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/87b56525-0d4a-48b6-a646-92f5d2931702/how-to-track-which-transport-rule-that-applying
Note : Once you completed troubleshooting please disable the transport pipeline logs .
2.Then do a message tracking for any one of the recipient there you came to know is there any transport agents or rules acting on that message or not .
Please reply me if you have any queries .

  • Reply to address--- mailto: vs. email

I have been told by a friend that he is unable to reply to my emails to the address I write them from. He says the mails bounce back. I looked into it to see if there is anything different in the settings, and I can't see anything unique about that particular account. The only difference I noticed is the reply to address in the mails when someone responds. The account that he says bounces shows this as my reply to email address.
From: sterlingfive (mailto:[email protected]) <----in brackets
    Sent: Friday, November 13, 2009 4:17 PM
    To: someone else
    Subject: Re: something
All of my other accounts look like this. Notice how instead of having mailto:, it shows the email address like this <email>
    From: sterlingfive <[email protected]>
    Sent: Friday, November 13, 2009 4:17 PM
    To: someone else
    Subject: Re: something
First of all why would one account have the reply to like that, but my other two accounts don't? Second, is this possibly the reason why my emails aren't coming through from him? I haven't had anyone else tell me their getting bounced messages, but that doesn't mean their not.

Just called him. He's not at computer and said it works fine from his phone. Makes me think it's something with his email, not mine. However, he replied to a message earlier and it went to the right email address with no bouncing. When I pointed that out, he said he never sent it there. He says he deleted the original reply to address and type in my other account, yet it still went to the one he deleted out. If this were anyone else, I would tell them their doing it wrong, but this guy is very tech savvy. I'm waiting to get a call back and will test some more.

  • Change Reply-To Address

I am trying to have my .mac account always send the "from" address to another email address other than my .mac account. This email address is [email protected] and is a forwarding service. Since I move so much, I want all my email to be sent to my pobox.com address so that I don't have to worry about changing my email address wrt to the ISP I am using. I realize that I can do this through my .mac account but since I have so many people already emailing to my pobox.com account that I would like my MacMail account to show that as the "reply-to" address. I have the "reply-to" window called up and when I enter the desired "reply-to" address it still ends up at the destination as [email protected] no matter what I enter into the "reply-to" window. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for any assistance.

    You did what?
bbop, your .Mac account is your .Mac account and it must have the e-mail address associated with that account. You cannot arbitrarily create a mail account and put whatever you want in the address field. It may work with some ISPs and for some particular addresses, but you shouldn't do that.
Now, the real problem is that, if I've understood correctly what you've done, you have set up your .Mac account twice, right? Do not delete any of them until you've answered the following question: Have you set them both up using the same account type (POP, IMAP, .Mac)?
So if I understand you correctly, the from address
will always show the @mac.com address but when you
enter a different address in the reply-to window the
recipient will reply to that address. Correct?
Yes, that's correct. I've been telling you this since the very beginning. The From field will always show the address of whatever account you choose to send your mail from. You can't/shouldn't put the address of an account that doesn't exist there. But that shouldn't be a problem because, if you use a Reply-To header, what really matters when the recipient replies is the address that appears in the Reply-To header.
I still don't understand your obsession with setting the From field to an address which you cannot send mail from. What exactly are you trying to accomplish by doing that?

  • Controlling the contact form reply-to address

I have a contact form on my site. Everything works fine apart from when I receive an email submission the reply-to address is [email protected], so to reply to the email with the content intact, I have to copy and paste the address from the email body. I did change a setting somewhere that caused it to start giving my own address as the reply-to, which is no better, of course!
I'm sure there's a simple solution to this but I cannot find the setting(s) to configure it. Any help with this is gratefully received.

    Hi Sanjit,
Thanks for the quick reply. It's not the notification address I'm having issues with, it's the reply address.
When someone uses my contact form, it is sent to the correct address but the reply address is not the sender's. See attached. Is it possible to automatically use the sender's email address for the reply?
Also, is there any way of getting back to the original layout (below). I've tried removing all forms and republishing the Muse site but it doesn't change.

  • Changing the reply to address for emails?

Is there a way to change the reply address when I send emails from the iphone. Due to the lack of exchange support I am redirecting my work emails to a gmail account and then grabbing them that way. I want people to reply to my work email when I send or reply from my iphone. Gmail has a setting to choose the reply to address but when i send an email from my phone it shows up as [email protected] and not the desired [email protected] Thanks

I had the same issue - here's the fix.
In your iPhone mail settings, select the account you want (in my case - and yours - it's the work account).
Edit the Account Information section by inserting the e-mail address you want people to reply to in the "address" box. Then keep the incoming / outgoing mail server information set to your g-mail account. Your phone will now check your g-mail but address all your responses with your desired reply-to address.
    That's it...

  • Adding a Default Reply-To Address

    Hello all,
Is there any way to set a default reply-to address? I always want to send via .Mac but it won't let me set my redirection email address in the From. So I always want my reply-to to be an alternate address.
    Thanks,
    John

the method shown in the thread about adding a message
    receipt
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=71
    3245#713245
should also work for a default reply-to header (of
course, you would use "Reply-To:" instead of
    "Display-Notification-To:" when running the command
    in the Terminal).
I'd really like to have a Default Reply-To Address - have tried the suggestion above, but can't make it work.
I quit Mail, opened Terminal, copied in
    defaults write com.apple.mail UserHeaders '{"Reply-To:"="[email protected]";}'
pressed return. Re-opened Mail, but no joy.
(I tried it with and without a colon after Reply-To.)
Is there a step I'm missing?
    Thanks for any help.

  • Mail Bug - Reply To addresses list everyone in your address book

I use reply-to addresses a lot to ensure I get replies to the right address.
In 10.4 I'm sure if I started typing my address in this field, it would give me a choice of similar reply to addresses I'd used before, or perhaps based on my accounts.
In 10.5, it is now listing everyone in my address book and has potential for serious consequences.
For instance, if my reply-to is ian @ mac.com then when I used to start typing ia.. it would give me a list of my various reply-to addresses. Now, it is giving me the default of another ian in my address book. It is easy to dismiss the default and inadvertently ensure a reply is sent to another person completely! The list should really only include email accounts you have or some other limited list.
    Anyone else notice this change/bug?

OK, JUST TO CLARIFY:  I OPEN MY MAIL PROGRAM.  I then start a new letter.  I then click on the little person icon button which opens up the address/contacts list.  This action does not open up the address book as such.
I simply want to select various contacts from the list.  But now I can no longer simply go down the list to double click on those contacts that I want to automatically drop into the TO field of my new message.  It does not work any longer in Mavericks??
Now I have to click on each contact, and then go up, and click again on the TO button ....
Can Apple please stop making tasks more difficult??  The previous version worked great, and now it has been upgraded so that it doesn't work as simply as it did??
    Frustrated.!!!
