Mutliple queries on single workbook?

Hi,
Is it possible to have number of queries on single workbook, meaning each query on a different sheet.
How can this be achieved.
Would it require embedded workbook.
How would it be refreshed, i have heard some people had problems with similar scenario
How are variables handled, assuming some queries are prompted for variables.
Thanks

Hi Ashouja,
It is possible to have multiple queries on different sheets in one workbook. You can accomplish this through using the Bex Toolbar button Tools > Insert Query on the different worksheets. When you will refresh the workbook, all those queries are still "attached" will be refreshed.
About the variables...it depends on the query properties set in the workbooks. eg if you choose Refresh all queries when opening workbook, then as soon as you open the workbook, all the queries will be automatically refreshed. In this case you will get the variable screen starting with that of the first query. If there are any variables that are common between the queries (Same technical name) then those variables will only appear once and if you enter a value, they will not appear again. The second query will be run with the same value in this case.

  • How to embed multiple queries in single workbook

    Hi,
I am working in BI 7.0 environment. My requirement is
    1) I have 6 different SD queries.
    2) I need to create workbook out of each query.
    3) I need to embed workbook created from each query into a single work book (each worksheet in workbook should have workbook created from 1single query).
This way the final workbook will have six work sheets with six different queries (all saved as workbooks).
Can anyone please give me an idea to create the workbook.
We are latest version of Excel.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Padma,
You can embed multiple queries in a workbook. Please follow below steps.
    1. Open the query in a Bex analyzer (first query)
    2. Go to second tab and select a cell and insert anlaysis item (second icon on the Bex Toolbar)
    3. Right click and assign query to the data provider.
    4. Goto next tab and insert analysis item for third query . Similarly you can insert many queries but embedding multiple queries will degrade performace.
    5. Goto workbook settings (last icon in Bex tool bar) for workbook properties like refresh workbook on open. pop up variable screen on refresh etc.
Also please go thru below links .

  • How to Insert two queries in a single workbook in BI 7 ?

    Hi,
I am trying to insert two queries in a single workbook. The queries are of Accounts Receivable.I have inserted one query in a workbook , but am not able to proceed to inserting the second query. In BEx analyzer, in design mode , using analysis grid , i tried inserting the second query but when saving and running, i am getting message " Variables are present, change their values " . should i maintain same variables for two queries ? i am stuck up. please explain me as how can this be done.
    Roja.

    Hi,
If you get the message "Variables are present, change their values" ,it means that the query which you inserted having variables.
You just click the "Change Variables" icon in the Analysis Toolbox, which will invoke the variable screen.
Set the values in the variable screen and click OK.
Now you will be able to see the data in the grids based on the values selected in the variable screen.
Both queries data will be displayed in the workbook.
Let me know in case of any clarifications!

  • Need Different Selection screen for different Queries in a Workbook

    Hi,
I have created a workbook with Multiple tabs in BI 7.0.  Each Tab has different Queries and each query has different Selection screens (Variable Selections).
When i open the workbook and refresh it, the selection screen is appearing only for one query.  All the queries are refreshed by this single selection screen, though each query has different Variable selections.  What i need is a seperate selection screen i.e seperate Variable selection appearing for each queries, when i refresh each one of them.
Is it possible to do this?  If anybody has tried this, help me in solving this issue.  Thanks for ur time.
    Regards,
    Murali

    Murali,
If you un-check the 'Display Duplicate Variables Only Once' this WILL solve your problem.
When you Refresh, you should be presented with a single variable selection dialog box, but it should contain an area for each Query (DataProvider) that is embedded in the Workbook.
This is the case if the queries are all on the same tab, or on different tabs.
However, if you have multiple tabs each with a query on it, each query must have it's own DataProvider. If all queries are based on the same DataProvider, it will not work as the Workbook only 'sees' one Query for which it needs variable input.
If you REALLY want multiple variable selection dialog boxes, then maybe the best way to do this is to have the queries in separate Workbooks.
If you don't want the User to have to open 5 queries manually, you could use a Macro in each Workbook that runs on opening, to open the next Workbook in the sequence.
    I hope this makes sense!

  • How to run multiple queries in a workbook

    Hi,
I have 3 queries in a workbook with the same variables. How can I refresh all the 3 queries when I change the variable value. It allows me to refresh only one query at a time but I need to refresh all the 3 queries at once whenever variable value changes.
    Thanks,

    Prakash,
    Do you have any more information on where i would find the setting to;
"Refresh individual queries within a workbook (Single DataProviderRefresh)"
    is it on the
    i) dataprovider setting
    ii) workbook setting
    iii) elsewhere?

  • Refrsh individual queries within a workbook

    Dear Experts,
We have implemented Enhancement package 1 SP-04 in our BI system.
1 of the new functionalities provided with this upgrade was
" Single dataprovider refresh is possible , vs a Global refresh of all the queries in the workbook "
But we can not see any such option in workbook setting.
It would be of great help if you can provide in your valuable inputs to solve this issue.
    Regards
    Vaibhav Halde

    Hi Chandrashekhar,
    Thank you for your input.
It will surely work if you refresh query Q2 and not query Q1.
Our issue is that along with enhancement package 1 SP04 we should have got a new check box on general tab in a workbook setting.
Initially...workbook setting-general tab - there was a check box - Refresh workbook on open
after upgrade there should have been a new check box : Refresh individual dataprovider
but that is not the case.
We want to know reason behind this ?
    or
Does this functionality really come along with EHP1 SP04 or with any other support package?

  • Refresh individual queries within a workbook in SP20 EHp1 System

    Hi,
Currently we have upgraded our BI system to EHP1 pack for SP20. Now we are in BI7.01. We have found in SAP release notes for EHP1 like " in BEX 7 analyzer we will able to Refresh individual queries within a workbook:".
Can you please tell me how to acheive that, as when we are trying to do it refreshes all the sheets.
Also in Global settings tab " Allow single data provider refresh" is disabled. Kindly tell me step by step procedure to acheive this,
    Thanks

    Hi Krishna,
Really thanks for your instructions. We have enabled hte "refresh on individual workbooks" in the workbook settings tab adn we are able to see the same in the context menu of the analysis grid.
    Again i have few doubts.
I can able to see two options as below.
    1. Refresh
    2. Refresh this query.
What is the difference between this two?. Also when i click the "refresh this query" it shud display the "selections screen of the particular query", But it is not at all showing me a selection screen,
What i am doing is.. I am simply doing "refresh this query" option that will refresh my screen first adn i am doing change variables.
That will give me the selection screen of the particular query. If i am not doing so, all workbooks are refreshing,
Please advice, whether selection screen of the particular query can be shown when clicking "refresh this query".
    Thanks/

  • How to save in different worksheets in a single workbook

    Hi Experts,
I ran one query and I saved it as a new workbook. In the same query I drilled down with another characteristic and I need the output should be saved in the same workbook in sheet 2.
Kindly do let me know how to save the different ouputs in a single workbook as sheet 1, sheet 2,..etc.,
    Thanks,

    Hi Kishor,
If you have just copy pasted this reult in sheet2 then it will be static.
If you want to refresh data in all the sheets then you have to create diff. queries as said by Venkat and insert this query in sheet2.
When you want to refresh data for any particular query then put cursor on any cell of the Query result an refresh it.
If you want to refresh data for all the queries in the workbook then select cell(put cursor) on any empty cell and refresh the workbook.

  • Multiple Queries in a workbook in 2004s

    Hello folks,
I am currently working on a report rendering strategy for BI 7.0 2004s installation for our organization. While exploring the various options provided by the system, I notice a whole lot of new look to the Bex Analyzer in 7.0. In the earlier version there used to be options to insert multiple queries in a single workbook, but in the new version , I don't seem to see this as an option. Has this feature been taken out or is there another way that I am missing to do this ?
Are there any how to's for the new Bex Analyzer ?
    I appreciate your response ...
    Thanks

    Nikki,
         All I did was...
         - Inserted an analysis grid in the design mode at the bottom of the first query.
         - Assigned a new query by creating a new data provider in the grid properties.
         - Once I exited the design mode, the new query got refreshed.
Try using a different query for the new one and see if you are still getting that critical error.
Sadly, I am getting the same critical error since this morning when I tried to open the workbooks with multiple queries that I created earlier without any problem. I am investigating in the same direction, keep me posted if you get this solved.

  • Embedding multiple queries into a workbook in 7.0

    Hi,
we are currently upgrading to 7.0 and I am really struggling to figure out how to embed mulitple queries into a single workbook.  The input query function no longer features on the Analyser toolbar.  Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thankyou.

We have a need to use the same query multiple times in the same workbook. Query results could be on separate pages, or on same page of the workbook.
However, all of the results areas react to filtering and drilldowns done from any page and  the end result is that the all results are always the same on each page.
Ideally, the first page would be a summary of all sales, then maybe the second would be a summary of product line sales, then the third to be a summary of customer sales.
I know I can create new queries for each of these views, but there must be a better way. Has anyone discovered a method??

  • Insert multiple queries using either WORKBOOK, WAD or Report Designer

    Hello Guys
I have a task where I have to insert multiple queries into one single page/sheet & print it out later. For this I can use any one of the tools available: Workbook, WAD or Report Designer.
    1. Workbook - Here I have read that we can use a call back MACRO and some other features.
    2. WAD - Here I have read that we can use: 1. Multiple data providers (one for each query) & 2. Multiple web analysis items linking to each individual data provider.
    3. Report Designer - Since this is the actual 'formatting' tool provided by SAP, I am assuming that this is the right environment to achieve my task.
My question: Which one out of the above 3 tools is actually feasible? Can someone explain me in detail about how to go about this task. Any 'How to..' docs from SAP would also be most helpful.
    Regards.

    Hi Kashyap,
I have done similar requirement in Workbook,it has better features and more user friendly than others......it depends on the individual...but U cna meet your requirement thru Workbooks...
If the Req are complicated then we go for MAcros ,where in we can satify the critical req,say some sort of Dynamic reqs.
There are lot of threads on Multiple queries in one Workbook....Just search in SDN and u will get lot of Threads on this topic.
Come bak if u have any other doubts.

  • How to insert three quiries in a single workbook in three sheets?

    Hi Experts,
I want to insert three queries in a single workbook in 3 sheets, Please guide me how I can achieve this.
Help full answer will be awarded with points.
    Thanks in advance,
    Venkat.

    Hi Venkat,
If you are working in BEx 7.0 follow these steps:
    1. Open a query, say Q1.
    2. It will be opened in a new workbook in Sheet1.
    3. Then goto the sheet2.
    4. Switch onto the Design mode. There place the Analysis grid for which you have to create a new data provider for the query Q2.
    5. Similarly, goto the Sheet3 and do the step4 for inserting the query Q3.
If you are working in BEx 3.5 follow these steps:
    1. Open a query, say Q1.
    2. It will be opened in a new workbook in Sheet1.
    3. Then goto the sheet2.
    4. In the Business Explorer toolbar, you will find a button called 'Tools'.
    5. From that menu select 'Insert Query' option.
    6. It will open the query dialog box, there choose the query Q2.
    7. Similarly, goto the Sheet3 and do the step 4,5, & 6 for inserting the query Q3.
         Hope this helps you.

  • Queries Published to Workbook Roles

    Hello Gurus,
I need some advice on this particular situation.
I currently have users in our BI systems (BI 7.0) that are assigned to roles specifically for workbooks to use with the BEX analyzer. In this case there are users who can publish queries to workbooks for anyone to use (as long as they're assigned to the workbook role).
Note:  To be specific, our business users do not create queries in production, but simply create a view of an existing query and make changes based on their specific need, which then can be saved to a workbook.
In the past we had workbook roles transported (in error) to production from development, which overwritten the queries published to the workbook in production. Updates to the workbook roles were only being made in production, so when the roles came over from DEV it wiped the queries that were created by the end users.  Iu2019m currently in the process on re-structuring the role authorization concept in our BI system and would like to incorporate workbook authorization to one role (role based security) instead of having multiple on-off roles for workbooks. Having one role means Iu2019ll need to work in DEV and push the changes to production, however with the workbook situation if any queries have been published to the one role it will be wiped every time a transport goes into production.
I would like to the following:
    1. Is there an alternative method to running queries without utilizing workbooks?
    2. What would be the best scenario or best practice when publishing queries to workbook roles?
    Regards,
    Wes

    Wes:
User cannot see favorites of another user in BEx Analyzer.
Instead of saving a workbook to the role and risk having it overwritten the next time the role is transported, your users could save their changes as a view ('save view global' option).  They will not be prompted to save as a favorite or in a role - it inherits whatever role the query is in and will not be overwritten if that role is transported.
Keep in mind that things like query properties set in the view are not retained like they are with a workbook, however.  The view stores the navigation state, variable values, etc.
    Hope this helps...
    Regards,
    Kerry

  • 2 Queries within 1 workbook in BEx BI7.0

    Hi Experts,
I know that there is a new method of creating a workbooks in BI7.0 using the Design Mode.
Suppose I have put 2 queries within 1 sheet in excel (one on top of the other). I did this by inserting 2 analysis grids within the same worksheet.
When I try to drill down the query on top, the area it occupies expands and completely overwrites the query at the bottom.  As such, the bottom query disappears.
Is there a setting somewhere which will make the system adjust the position of the query at the bottom in this scenario?
I remember that with 3.x, when you insert 2 queries within the same worksheet in the workbook and you try to do a drilldown, the system would ask if you want it to overwrite or adjust the affected query area.
I am trying to look for the same functionality in BI7.0 workbook creation.
Thanks for your help in advance.

    Hi Gurus
If we have multiple queries in a workbook in  3.5 version and when we upgrade it to BI 7.0 version the data got overwrited........ (I heard this scenario from my friend)
But how to solve this kind of scenario. Does scrolling option works... Please give me some suggestion how to solve this kind of issue

A 3.x workbook when opened in 7.0 works fine except for some issues. Variables are shown in text element of 3.x workbook , when this workbook is opened in 7.0 the variables are also shown. By design text element does not show variables except for text variables. There are issues like flickering of workbook when opening the 3.x workbook in 7.0. Variants from 3.x are not imported in 7.0.
