Refresh workbook when opening...

Hi Experts,
I am on NW2004S, BI 7.0.
I have created a workbook for one query. I want the workbook to be refreshed everytime, a user tries to run it.
Any advice ?
PS: I am aware of the solution in older versions..

According to SAP Help-->
<b>Refresh Workbook on Open</b>
<i>If selected, when you open a workbook from the server, the query is automatically refreshed with values from the server. If not selected, of if you are opening a workbook from your local file system, you must manually refresh the query after you open it to retrieve the latest results from the server.</i>
Go to the Design Toolbar, the last button, workbook settings will allow you to select this.
Thanks,
Jeff

  • Refresh query when opening workbook is ticked automatically

Prior to Upgrade, the bex properties settings for "Refresh query when
opening workbook" was unticked(deactivated) and now after upgrade to BI
7.0 the bex properties "Refresh query when opening the workbook" is
    ticked(activated).
Again, This has happened only to a particular strand.
Can anybody guide me on this. As a result of the above, all the work books are now refreshing automatically. This has affected hunderds of workbooks and we need to restore this back. Please help.

    Hi Dave,
That is a local workbook setting.  The setting is stored in the workbook on the sheet named SAPBEXqueries (see earlier postings on how to make this worksheet visible).
If there is only one query in the workbook, then look at at cell U4.  This cell will read TRUE if the setting is check (do refresh on open) and will read FALSE if the setting is not checked (do not refresh on open).
One way to be sure that this setting is not altered would be to create a subroutine for the Workbook_BeforeClose event.  The user then can make any selection they like, but you will over-ride it when they close the workbook.
    Hope this helps.

  • Rich Client keeps refreshing docs when opening them

    Hello,
I would like to ask a question about the refresh on open with Rich Client. Using FP2.10, I have Rich Client which keeps refreshing documents when opening them. This happens even if the 'refresh on open' option is unchecked. I would like to know if there is another option that is forcing the refresh of my webi doc when opened with WRC.
this behavior I'm facing is systematic and does not depend on universe, document, objetc or whatsoever.
It happens when I create a brand new doc using demo universe (eFashion for instance). I use a prompt in the query; then I save the document locally as a .WID file making sure that option 'refresh on open' is uncheck. However when I open this newly created document, the prompt dialog box shows up meanign that the doc was refreshed.
This behavior is happening wiht only one machine. that' what made me think that it might be related to some configuration within that machine.
Thanks in advane for any input you might have to resolve this issue.
    Best regads,
    Mohamed

I have got a question with regards to this thread.
I understand the new option that has been added u201CDisable Automatic Refresh on Open for all documentsu201D
In this instancce all reports refresh when opened in WRC and not in Infoview?
Is this right specific to WRC or Webi in Infoview as well?
With BO administrator, the report does not refresh as u201CDisable Automatic Refresh on Open for all documentsu201D right is granted by default.
However, with a non-admin user, the report will refresh.
If the aforementioned right is  granted to the non-admin user then the auto-refreshes stops.
    Therefore, my query is:
Is this functionality of refreshing all documents specific to WRC or does it also applies to Webi in Infoview?
If specific to WRC then is it documented somewhere?
    Thanks

  • Problem refreshing query when opening workbook in VBA

I have a report menu in a workbook not containing any queries - only the description, technical name and additional information about the reports.
I use Run ("SAPBEX.XLA!SAPBEXreadWorkbook"), <TECHNICAL_NAME> to open the respective workbooks, which works fine.
However, if I try to refresh the query, BEx displays a message saying:
"Can only refresh this query agains a server of release 2.0 or higher: <QUERY DESTINATION RANGE>"
    We're using BW 3.5!
After that, BEx is a complete mess:
    - Open workbook dialog is from a previous version (without History, Favorites, Roles buttons)
    - All workbooks are displayed, but if I try to open one, BEx claims that "The workbook does not exist in the document store". Then why display it, dear SAP programmers?
Now, if I disconnect and reconnect, the query can be refreshed as if I had opened the workbook directly instead of using VBA.
Our users like the idea of a report menu, so any help would be appreciated!

Changed the error handling as follows, dropped the SAPBEXinitConnection function, which is completely redundant:
    Sub OpenWBTechName()
    On Error GoTo ErrorHandler
        Run ("SAPBEX.XLA!SAPBEXreadWorkbook"), <TECHNAME>
    Exit Sub
    ErrorHandler:
If Err.Number = 1004 Then ExtraInfo = "Start BEx Analyzer!"
res = MsgBox("Sorry, could not open requested report!" & vbCrLf & vbCrLf & ExtraInfo, vbExclamation + vbOKOnly, "Open SAP/BW workbook report: ERROR!")
    End Sub

  • HP Quality Center - Version 11 - Refresh Requirement when opening

    Hello,
Is there a way to set up a requirement to automatically refresh prior to it opening (to show most current update).  Currently, if there is a user (user 1)  with the screen sitting on the requirements module and a user (user 2) making updates while user 1 is idle - the requirement does not automatically show the updates when user 1 opens the same requirement after user 2 completes the updates.  User 1 will have to manually refresh the screen for it to get updated immediately.  By user 1 not refreshing, the requirement does not shows the updates until after user 1 makes a change to the same requirement or upon closure of the requirement.
I tried using "Actions.Action("actFilterRefresh").Execute" but it did not work (unless I set it incorrectly).
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

This issue is usually due to having multiple monitors, particularly when used with a laptop where the configuration can frequently change. For example, when at one location, the display settings are such that the laptop is on the left and the secondary monitor is on the right, but at another, the laptop is on the right and the secondary monitor on the left. Applications remember where windows were when last opened, so if the monitors are not configured in the expected order, the window may be "invisible" when next opened. What is actually happening is described in nathanielcoyle's response regarding the coordinates of the window.
The solution is to go to the Display settings under Control Panel and reverse the order of the monitors. It may alternately help to change which monitor is considered the main display (this is just a theoretical guess). If you use dual monitors at work but only have one (your laptop) at home, you're pretty much hosed until you get back to work or find another monitor to plug in. That is, of course, unless you happen to have your QC administrator on speed dial to implement nmailey's solution.
Preventive measure: Always bring windows back into your main display before closing them.

  • #VALUE! displayed when opening Offline documents with BPC logged on

    SITUATION
The offline documents (by using Park N Go) open fine in Excel, though, when these documents are opened after logging on to BPC, cells display #VALUE! instead. This gives my users a hard time opening distributed reports when they are in BPC session
    DATA
Macro IS enabled when opening these offline documents
We are on Office 2007 and BPC 5.1 & BPC 7.0. This particular issue occurs to both versions of BPC
Please let me know if you have a workaround, or this is a bug? Thank you!
    Sincerely,
    Brian Hsu

    Hi Brian,
I can suggest you 2 things.
    1. Before doing the offline distribution, go to the template, go to workbook options and select the boxes for expansion and refreshing workbook, when opened / when CV is changed. Save this template and then do the "park n go".
    2. When the saved offline file is opened, this time you should not get #VALUE. If you still get the same values, then go to "park n go" and click on "set to live data and live current view".
    Hope this helps.

  • Auto refresh when opening a workbook

    Hi
When I open a workbook, I would like the query to auto refresh. In that way the planning user will see the latest planning values and not the ones saved in the workbook.
Is there any functionality for running the planning function refresh automatically when the workbook is opened?
    Kind regards
    Erik

    Hi Erik,
Once you open the workbook, just right click on result area and select properties.
In that select the Interaction tab and then check Refresh query when opening workbook.
Then dont forget to save the work book.

  • How to execute a Macros automatically  when opening a workbook

    Hi people:
I've done a macros routine in order to make some arithmetic operations. When I execute the macros manually works fine, however, when I open the workbook and put the filter values the macros isn't executed.
    Sub calculate()
    End sub
Can anybody tell me if my code has to be in a special place or to have a special function in order to be executed any time the workbook is opened and refreshed?
Thanks in advanced. Points for helpful answers

    Hi,
I have done something very common. First for open the workbook:
In the VBA Editor you have in your project in the "project window" two entries. Excel Objects and modules. In Excel Objets you have the workbook and the sheets. Got to the entry Workbook (double click) In the now opening code window you have to pulldown menus. Choose Workbook in the left one and Open in the right one. The code for the routine / handler appears automatically in the code window. Implement you code here or just call your routine.
Changes: Do exactly the same as in the method descibed above but from the left pull down menu choose SheetChange. This method only has the Con that it will execute not only by refresh but also by every change on the sheet. If you want to have it only by refreshing then:
SAP 3.5 - use the SAPBEXonRefresh method as described by Bob
SAp 7.0 - int the properties window of your workbook you have a possible entry: In the register Exits you can enter your macro at "Run macro on refresh". If you set the option "Refresh Workbook on open" in the register General then you achieve what you want only by implementing the macro in "Run macro on refresh".

  • Var processed through ZXRSRU01 refreshed on query open but not on worbook

    Hello group,
I have a variable that is calculated automatically through the ZXRSRU01 user-exit and this definition is correct (I_STEP=1).  I want to prompt my users with this initial value and they have the option to change it if they want to.
This whole design is working fine.  From BEx Analyzer, whenever I open my query, I see the correct behaviour.
However, when I open the workbook that is based on this query, the default value being showed, is an old value (Probably the calculated value when I initially created the workbook) so it seems that the newest value is not being sent to the workbook.  I've looked at the setting within the workbook but can't find anything about this.
    Any genius idea?
    Thank you & regards,
    John.

    Hi John.
Maybe you need to uncheck the "Process Variables on Refresh" in [Workbook Settings|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/54/a493f7256b43698191a2623e5a0532/content.htm]:
    Process Variables on Refresh
If any query in your workbook contains variables, any current values set for the variables are part of the query view definition and are therefore stored in the workbook.
Set this indicator if the values saved in the workbook are to be used automatically.
    Note
If you also set the Refresh Workbook on Open indicator, the variable dialog is always displayed when a workbook is opened. The values previously saved are automatically selected in the variable dialog; however, you can change these values
So, if you UNCHECK the "Process Variables on Refresh", you should get the behaviour that the saved values are NOT used automatically. Whether your exit is called again for the variable an filled with the correct "current" default value, I don't know...

  • Refreshing Workbooks loses variables

I have a workbook with many queries, but when I refresh the variable values are erased. What shouldbe done so as to refresh and have the previous variable values loaded?

    Hi,
Check up with work book settings, check if the setting "Refresh the variable on work book refresh (Process Variables on Refresh)" is set, uncheck it, or " Opening a workbook for which the Refresh Workbook on Open indicator is not set" - in this case When you update the workbook, the system checks whether it contains mandatory variables for which no values are available. If no values are available, the variable dialog is displayed; if values are available, the workbook is displayed straight away.
You can, however, manually change the variable values by choosing Change Variable Values to call the variable dialog.
Try setting the personalised varible setting or the setting that "start variable with previous value".
    Hope this will be expedite.

  • Critical program error in BEx designer when open the workbook

problem is coming related to Workbook.when i m opening the workbook then busiess explorer giving the error messgae i.e * A critical program error has occured. The program will now terminare.please refer to the trace for further information * kindly please provide the best solution for this problems.

hello , I got the same error while opening a workbook, and I found that this is happening coz I made some changes in Query  structure contained into workbook.
So when you are opening and inserting the input variable do following things:
1.Open the workbook and insert the variable, but do not click "OK" just click on "CANCEL",
and your Workbook will display without data .
2.Now go to "Design Mode" reinsert the query by refreshing  dataprovider(data analysis grid), and do the changes if you required and exit design mode,
    3. Save workbook and now insert the variable values  and check  the work book will work without any error.
Thanks Hope it will help, coz it helped me.

  • "Open method of Workbooks class failed" when opening Excel file via Internet Explorer

(apologies, I posted this first to the general Office 2010 forum, but then realized this was probably a better spot to post)
We have an Excel COM add-in installed on users' PCs.  This add-in responds to workbook open events by opening a particular XLA file (also deployed to the PC) to make certain features available.  This process works flawlessly when Excel files are
opened locally - but when a user attempts to open an Excel file from an IE link, we get the following error: "Open method of Workbooks class failed".  This is happening on the line that is trying to open the XLA file.  This only happens
when launching an Excel link from IE - works fine in Chrome or Firefox.
I have found several posts on this topic, but no solutions:
    1. This post (https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/office/en-US/73c96005-84af-4648-b103-32b677205be3/open-method-of-workbooks-class-failed)
is the closest to our problem.  In this case, the "answer" was that the user may not have access to the 2nd workbook being opened.  But in our case, we're opening an XLA that is on the local machine, and I've confirmed that it is not
corrupt and accessible (read & write, just in case!) to Everyone.
    2. This (very old) post (http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/open-method-workbooks-fails-excel-hosted-ie-t965608.html)
seems similar, but is talking about opening Excel inside of IE.  This is not what we're doing - the link is supposed to (and does) open Excel outside of IE.  Interestingly, Excel.exe is being launched with the "-embedded" flag, even
though it isn't running in the IE window.  When launching Excel by opening the file locally, Excel.exe is run with the "/dde" flag instead.  Clearly the "-embedded" mode is what is causing the problem.  I could change the
links on the web page to use some JavaScript to open Excel differently... unfortunately, the links are actually generated by SharePoint (the Excel files are in a SP repository), so this is not really an option.
    3. This Microsoft KB article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/268016) talks about problems opening an XLA directly from IE... but this is the case of a link pointing
directly to an XLA file, not opening a regular workbook that in turn opens an XLA, as is my case.  In fact, this article specifically points out in the "More Information" section that "End users do not normally open XLAs; instead they open
an XLS that (if needed) loads one or more XLAs during startup." ==> precisely what I'm trying to do that is giving me the error!
I've replicated the situation with a very simple COM add-in (created in VS2010 using VB.Net) and a very simple XLA file (does nothing, just pops up a message in auto_open).  For anyone wanting to try it out, here is the exact test case:
    1. In Excel, create a simple XLA file containing only the following code, and save it in C:\TEMP\dummy.xla:
    Sub Auto_Open()
    MsgBox "Auto Open fired"
    End Sub
    2. In Visual Studio, create a new Excel 2010 Add-In.  I created mine via Visual Basic, but I doubt the choice of language matters.  Place the following code in ThisAddin.vb:
    Public Class ThisAddIn
Private Sub ThisAddIn_Startup(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Startup
    AddHandler Me.Application.WorkbookOpen, AddressOf Application_WorkbookOpen
    End Sub
Private Sub ThisAddIn_Shutdown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Shutdown
    End Sub
    Sub Application_WorkbookOpen(ByVal workbook As Excel.Workbook)
    On Error GoTo ErrHandler
    If (Not workbook.Name.Contains("dummy.xla")) Then
    MsgBox("Workbook open")
    Application.Workbooks.Open("C:\temp\dummy.xla")
    Application.Workbooks("dummy.xla").RunAutoMacros(Excel.XlRunAutoMacro.xlAutoOpen)
    End If
    Exit Sub
    ErrHandler:
    MsgBox(Err.Description)
    End Sub
    End Class
    3. Build & publish this add-in and install it on the same machine as the XLA created in step 1.
    4. Create and save an empty Excel workbook (I called mine WayneTest1.xlsx) - save it locally (on your desktop), and put a copy somewhere on your web server (I put mine directly in c:\inetpub).
    5. Create an HTML file with a link to that workbook, saving it to the same web server location - here is mine:
    <html>
    <body>
    <a href="WayneTest1.xlsx">Link to Excel file</a>
    </body>
    </html>
    6. Double click the workbook on your desktop (from step 4) - opens fine, I get the "workbook open" message, following by the "Auto Open fired" message.
    7. In Internet Explorer, navigate to the HTML file specified in step 5 and click on the link - when prompted, select "Open" - I get the "workbook open" message, following by the error message "Open method of Workbooks class failed".
Here are a few things I've ruled out / tried so far:
    - Unchecked all the "Protected View" settings in Excel, made no difference
    - Unchecked all the "File block settings" in Excel, made no difference
    - Made sure dummy.xla was open for read & write to Everyone
    - Made sure the web page was in Trusted sites and set the security level to Low for those sites in IE
    - Tried making the local desktop file (step 6) readonly, made no difference (i.e. launching it locally still worked fine)
    - Tried using Excel 2013 - made no difference
    Any ideas / suggestions?

    Hello Wayne,
    Apologies for the delay.
I went through your post and tried to reproduce the issue. I was able to reproduce it. Based
