Refund from Apple Because of Broken Ipod

I saw this in the Warranty Packet (included in the ipod classic's box):
Apple’s warranty obligations for this hardware product are limited to the terms set forth below:
Apple Inc. ("Apple") warrants this hardware product against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of one (1) year from the date of original purchase ("Warranty Period").
If a defect arises and a valid claim is received by Apple within the Warranty Period, at its option, Apple will (1) repair the product at no charge, using new or refurbished replacement parts, (2) exchange the product with a product that is new or which has been manufactured from new or serviceable used parts and is at least functionally equivalent to the original product, or (3) refund the purchase price of the product.
So I decided to email apple to ask them if this refund would be in cash or an apple store gift card. They sent back an automated message, which was not helpful at all.
So then I called technical support and asked them the same question. They told me to call customer service, which is not available Saturday and Sunday. And they didn't even know the phone number for customer service...
So right now I am not able to contact apple. So could anyone in these forums please answer me:
Can I get a refund on my broken ipod classic (purchased in October) and will it be in cash or apple store gift card? Also, I searched around in the forums here and read that some people think that apple only gives a refund within 14 days? Is this true? If it is true, then why does it not say this in the official warranty packet?

If they send you a refurbished iPod it will be in a brown box with just the iPod in it. If you want to return it to Best Buy you need to use your original packaging and have your receipt.
What is wrong with this iPod and how did it get broken?

    Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price unless:
    An iPod that is ineligible for warranty service may be eligible for Out-of-Warranty service. For example, an iPod that has failed due to accidental damage or liquid damage is ineligible for warranty service but eligible for Out-of-Warranty service. However, certain damage is ineligible for Out-of-Warranty service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications.
    . They do not fix yours.

  • Radio Receiver from Apple Used on Video iPod-Results

    Hello all:
    I recently purchased an iPod Radio Receiver from Apple. This is a cord with receiver clip and remote that can turn your iPod Video into an FM radio.
    It replaced an old Sony Sport armband walkman.
    I am so amazed by the improved performance, I had to post and let folks know that the quality of the reception is so much better over the Sony.  I live in San Francisco and take (ug!) public transportation to and from work.  I have significantly less static and interference with the new adapter and at times it seems like digital radio.
    Black would be nice to match my iPod, but the improved performance is worth every penny and outweighs any negatives.  If you are on the fence about it, or have been curious about the quality, don't wait another minute.  

    This feature is not available on the 60GB 5th gen iPod.
    You need a 'Late 2006' model 5th Gen iPod for the search feature.

    Sometimes the genius at the Genius at the Genius Bar of an Apple store with do that. However, almost always Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price since a broken screen is not covered by the warranty.

  • Getting Logic 9 update refund from Apple

    Hi,
    I started a related thread some while ago, but as things are a little different, I'm starting a new one.
    I took the advice given here in this forum and ordered my Logic 9 update from Thomann.de ( as I live in Germany) after being sent the wrong version twice by Apple. My order was delivered within 2 days !
    I returned both wrong ones to Apple as instructed: via UPS, on 18 November. I received a refund for one only ...... and then another wrong one was delivered.
    Since then I've written dozens and dozens of Emails- even sending them in bulk, 10 at a time to each person in the hope that I'll get an answer - and telephoned many times. But no refund. And no contact to arrange collection of the 3rd false article from Apple.
    The problem as I see it: each time I phone (to Berlin) I speak to a - new- nice polite person who promises to help ( 7 named contacts by now ) and sends me their own Email address as contact. And then nothing happens.
    And when I've phoned and asked specifically to speak to these people I get to hear:
    1. not at their workplace
    2. can't be found
    3. no person of that name here
    4. can't make direct contact - in another building
    5. on holiday
    6. must be ill
    7. no direct phone contact between individual employees so cannot connect to a previous contact
    8. we don't have individual extension numbers so cannot find a previous contact ... although there are only 70 people working in this Apple Support Centre
    9. it's the holiday season so we're very busy - that's why you haven't had an answer.
    Which means - as these people don't ever answer the emails I write - that I can never follow up a conversation. And I can't find out if they really have sent on my request/compaint to Apple HQ in Ireland ........ or if they really sent an email to the Apple Finance centre asking why I haven't received the 2nd refund.
    I'm at my wit's end.
    Does anyone have a suggestion how to finally get my refund ?

    Well- something exraordinary has happened ! The last young man I spoke to at Apple has actually DONE something: he's read through my - very long - file, has summarised the 'events' and conseqences, has heartily aplogised and has promised to get me my refund
    And I believe him.
    Faith in Apple nature is returning. .....
    The Ebay suggestion was a way I hadn't thought of going but now not necesary.

    Hi all, just thought you might be interested in knowing that after returning my 3 month old 24 inch imac with the dark and yellow screen problem, as well as the airport not connecting problem to the Apple Store Sheffield, U.K. they gave me a replacement machine which was just as bad, the screen was actually worse, I got it on Friday, checked it out over the weekend, and have just got back from the store with my refund. I'm typing this on my trusty G5 Tower, which even with Leopard installed has never given me a problem.
    So there is hope, I didn't rant or shout at anyone, just explained that as a photographer the screen was not fit for it's purpose. Although they are not admitting there are any issues with the screen or anything else for that matter. Guess i'll hold on to the money and see what the next big screen mac will be like!!!

    i got this ipod touch from best buy and it just stopped working, then i returned it to get a refurbished one and it had sound problems, and then i returned that one and the one i have now has a touch screen that doesnt work. it wont press certain letters and it doesnt slide to well. should i call apple for this?

    If within warranty (check using the link below) I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store or call AppleCare.  If not within warranty you may have to go back to Best Buy.

  • What do you do if you rent a movie and can't watch it due to the download speed. Refund from Apple?

    Two questions:
    1. Is it normal to take 555 minutes to download a movie from Itunes ?
    2. I have rented several and can't watch them because of a long download time. What do you do

    Test your sustained internet speed at speedtest.net.  See what your result is - if you have a very slow connection it's not really Apple's fault but they don't publicise the requirements that well (yes you can find them in footnotes etc but they're not in the main sections of product descriptions).
    HD needs 6-8 Mbps for near instant playback.  I only get 4 Mbps  - it takes 40-45 mins for a film to prebuffer.
    Fort SD you'll get away with slower speed of around 3 Mbps.
    The problem with the AppleTV 2 is that once a download starts, doing other things with the unit unfortunately often erases the downloaded part so when you go back to see how long it'll take it starts over again.
    You can try changing rentals from HD to SD in Settings for iTunes store, but tyhis will not apply to things already rented.
    If your speedtest.net result is good, then it may be another issue entirely and you may want to take it up with Apple.
    You can also rent some titles in iTunes and then stream them once they're downloaded which allows you to use AppleTV 2 for other things in the interim - they appear on AppleTV 2 under Computers>Your iTunes Name>Rentals.  Not all things are available in iTunes though.
