Regarding my windows key

Sir, Due to some reasons my windows 7 and recovery disks are corrupted. Service center guys told me that the disks are unable to load the OS. Now when i wanted my windows 7 product key they were unable to tell the same because it is not visible clearly at the bottom. Pls tell me the procedure to get my windows key back. Pls do reply

Windows Key Arrow Keys Shortcut?

Hello!
Installed Windows 10 a few days ago and the Win+Arrow shortcut was working but has stopped working. Both the Windows key and the arrow keys function independently and my Ease of Access Mouse settings are proper in terms of Aero Snapping windows and checkboxes
and stuff. Also I insured that Turn off Windows+x HotKeys in the Local Policy Editor wasn't enabled. I'm not sure if I'm just reporting this or asking for a solution or what, but I mean it'd be cool if I could arrange windows again. If anyone needs any
other information just ask.

Snapping Windows with Win + Arrow keys worked on my test machines. Some folks have shared that it won’t work in the Windows 10 Technical Preview 9860 version. Even after a restart, it would came back and won’t work again after a while.
Another thing is please make sure we have installed the additional updates after we update to Windows 10 Technical Preview 9860.
KB3010668 and KB3008956. Go to PC settings ->Update and Recovery -> Windows update, click check for updates and then install if available.
For the Windows keyboard shortcut not working properly, we have another thread here:
snap assist doesnt work on build 9860
By now there seems no workaround to resolve this issue. Please wait for the future builds.

How can I use the MS Windows Key in Linux

Hello!
I'm using KDE 4.3 and want to use the MS Windows Key to open the KDE start menu.
I tried to add the Windows Key by pressing as a "KDE Application Launcher" hotkey, but the window key wasn't accepted as a hotkey.
Is it possible to add this key as a hotkey?

I have the following line in my .xinitrc:
/usr/bin/xmodmap -e "keycode 133 = F30" &
...where keycode 133 is my win key. I assign it to F30 (it can be any number besides 1-12, I guess), and then it's just a matter of configuring escape key (in your case, it'll be kde start menu) to F30.

Start, Charms and Windows Key stopped working in Windows 8.1

I have read these forums about getting the Start button and Charms back by hitting Win-C. But that doesn't even work on mine. This started just Feb 2 when I downloaded the Windows updates sent out that day for Microsoft .NET4.5.2. I have uninstalled
that update. At least that stopped the error message I was getting about Microsoft .NET Framework unhandled exception. But my start, charms, and windows key on my keyboard remain unusable. Any help?

What is your current situation?
Have you tried to restart Windows Explorer through task manager?
If the above is still not going to work. Run the following command:
SFC /ScanNow;
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth;
Also check if you have any hardware driver update recently. Check at the manufactuer side and see if they could offer any helpful information.
Further, could you please have a share wit hthe update KB number, I will perform a test with that update.

Windows key rubbed off on my sticker!

Hello!
I am hoping to do a fresh reinstall of my computer to hopeflly solve some issues I've been having with it. As I was reading the steps to do a fresh windows install, it said that I would need the activation key which is located on the sticker on the bottom of my laptop. Unfortuantely, the text on the paper sticker has rubbed off! Not expecting this to happen, I had never written it down.
I have taken a picture of the sticker, but don't want to post it on a public forum as it includes my product key as well.
Any tips on figuring out my key another way, or providing me with a replacement? Some of the numbers are still legible.

HP gives option for customers to create recovery media for OS re-installation, hope you have the disc created with you. if yes, Ideally disc does not prompt for any windows keys and installation should go smooth without any error.Alternatively, you can order a set of recovery media via phone/email support, using which makes notebook as good as factory installed OS setup.
Also, if you try to install OS using retail version of OS, key available in the bottom of notebook does not work as it’s a OEM key.

Windows Key Shortcut ?

Has the Windows Key been included in Ps6 keyboard mapping ? It would be helpful if I could assign keyboard short-cuts to the Windows Key ? I ask this question cause I'm using Ps 5.0.

T43 "Windows" key question

Dear forum
Please may someone advise about the matter : I note with desktop PC's and some laptops, there is often a "Windowrs" key (having of course a windows icon on it). The Windows key is very useful especially having several key combinations etc eg Windows+E etc
I notice the T43 and other Thinkpad models have no windows key. Please do anyone know if there is an alternative key pehaps some combination that produces the same effect.
Should anyone be able to assist I should be most grateful thank you

You need to format your laptop to remove the "install information" from it. After that you can install Windows 8.1 on your Desktop PC.

Firefox menus and text have disappeared. Also, can I map Windows key?

I was using openbox for a while (couple of days) and then decided to switch to KDE. The switch went well and was pretty effortless. I opened Firefox and it still had that ugly "Raleigh" theme to it. Wanting it to look more like the rest of KDE, I checked out the wiki and found this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/KD … plications
Upon following the following instructions to install and change themes to oxygen-gtk, my Firefox has no more text on it, basically (screencap below):
pacman -S oxygen-gtk
pacman -S gtk-kde4
gtk-kde4 ("System Settings > Lost and Found > GTK style")

Interestingly enough, Konquerer wouldn't upload my pic for me (it crashed each time I tried), so I installed Chromium to upload it instead. It won't even start, but maybe the terminal output from running the "chromium" command may have something useful in it? It's missing some gtk-related items, but I don't know what they are nor how to fix the problem.

As far as I know, KDE only allows the logo/mod4 key as a modifier in its keybindings. So you could do something like Mod4+Space, but not just Mod4.

Recovery mode without command or windows keys

Hello,
I am a mac newbie, but experienced linux and windows user. I am trying to restore my mac mini (mid 2011) running mavericks. The process should normally be very simple; press command-R keys while booting to start recovery mode and go from there.
Unfortunately my keyboard is a palm-sized keyboard without command or windows keys. So I am stuck. I have 2 windows laptops that I can use to remote login but I cannot do remote login during boot.
I tried mapping the Command key to Ctrl key inside OS X, but it seems like this only works after reboot.
I tried to use recovery disk assistant as it requires "Option" key, but the assistant does not allow me select the HD, as I guess I do not have a recovery system on the HD.
I tried doing network install, but it requires the install CD, which I don't have.
Can you help me get out of this situation? I have an ipad and two iphones if it helps.

If you mean holding down the OPTION (alt) key during restart, that takes you to the Startup Manager. AFAIK, there's no recovery disk assistant app in OS X. If you can't do that, then get an Apple keyboard. Without a recovery HD, you'll have to reinstall the OS.

Agreed. Cannot stop it by disabling the "Windows" key (from within Windows 7). Every time I Cmd-Tab to change apps, the Start Menu pops up,
and persists, overlaying other app windows. Much more than annoying.
Also, there is no Clipboard Sharing, apparently. Love typing in long binary strings into the Registry.

Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse Software that you install with Microsoft keyboard and mice, (latest version) allows you to disable your windows key so that you don't accidentally hit it when gaming. When I take advantage of this feature, I can no longer type in Firefox. Typing in Firefox is completely disabled. Other browsers, windows, applications work, but not Firefox. What is it about the windows key that firefox needs for typing. Strange problem, but annoying because I have to use a different browser while game. Certainly not a deal breaker, but kinda strange.

Custom BIOS request: GT60-20C - swap Fn and Windows key

Hi. Just got myself a brand new GT60-20C, and the lack of a left Windows key is driving me nuts. Sounds like you can mod a BIOS that would swap the left Fn and right Windows keys. If you can do that, I'd greatly appreciate it.

How do I get Windows Key/Icon to work again ( Not a keyboard fault - No menu, No apps )

Had a technical issue with a crashed application, so tried a rollback to a stable point in time. Went OK and solved the problem I had, but absolutely screwed up Windows 10.
Pressing the windows key does nothing. Pressing the start icon does nothing. I can't type in anything in "Search web and windows". If I run something like calculator, it appears and then vanishes before I see anything other than a blank window.
All the new apps are completely stuffed, but all the normal Windows 10 functions are otherwise fine. I can run control panel ( Can't run update - that's an App ) - I can run command prompt OK. Programs work fine ( just not apps ). I think a critical
update is missing and severely screwed things up, but I can't update because that's busted. Anything that's not Windows 7-ish doesn't work anymore - like it doesn't exist.
Yeah, I know some people will say that's an improvement but too much stuff needs the new system and I want it all back - :( How do I fix it without a complete system rebuild?

To do Windows Updates without Start Menu, try this method given by Insider Hub:
To check for updates without the Start menu, do the following:
Select the Internet Explorer icon.
Type http://update.microsoft.com into the address bar and select
Enter.
If you are prompted to run a control, click
Yes.
This should bring up the Check for updates window. Install updates.
If no update is available, or the available updates don’t fix the issue, restart the device–this should make the Start menu appear. To reboot without using the Start menu:
Hold down the Windows key and select L to lock the device. Swipe up or select
Enter to open the sign in screen. Select the
Power icon on the log in screen to restart the computer.
OR
Hold down the Windows key and select R to bring up a command prompt. In the prompt, type
shutdown –r to restart
If that does not work, perhaps a reinstall is in order.

Keyboard windows key not working properly

I am not able to navigate to start screen with regular windows key press. I need to press hard to navigate to the start screen. But other functions with windows key is working properly. For Eg: Windows Key + R is working properly with regular press. Please help.

I do not know of a setting that would do that - especially intermittently.
I would suspect the KB is failing/has failed.
