Reinstall Force Run application

I have an application object (Symantec) set to Force run and install once upon login. Everything went well on most computer, but I have a handful of computers that need to have it reinstalled to resolve an issue. Since the application object is only set to force run and run once I cannot verify the installation. Also zenworks thinks that the installation has been successful, so it's not trying to reinstall the application. In this case, do I have to create another app object to uninstall, then reinstall and apply it to users as it's needed? Does anyone has any suggestions as to what they have done in this situation? I would like to get away from manually adding users as needed if possible.
Thanks,
Andy

  • Trouble Forcing an Application to Run

I have a bit of a problem I'm having trouble solving. I'm trying to force an application (McAfee Total Protection's silent installer) to run at startup. So I created an application object and associated it with a test machine, also checking "Force Run." The test machine will not run the installer at startup, however it will run if I execute the object from the Application Explorer window.
I've experimented with the force run order, even though I don't have any additional applications I'm trying to install on this box. I also turned on the Reporting feature and checked the log file. Each time I log in, I can see an entry made in the log file as if some kind of attempt is made to run it. McAfee Total Protection also keeps a log of every install attempt, whether it's successful or not and I don't see any entries there.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Glad to hear that helped.
If you don't have that box checked, the instll will try to run Prior to User
logon which could act quite differently depending on the software.

  • Forcing an application to load and run from memory

    Greetings,
Is it possible to force an application to load and run only in RAM? I've got a V60 (i386) with 4gb of RAM running Solaris 10 (beta). We have an application that we would like to ensure loads and runs only in RAM and not swap to the disk. The machine is used for this one application that uses about 50% of one CPU at all times. Even with this application running, of the 4gb of RAM, 3.5gb are unused.
The swap size is equal to the size of the RAM, but we want to prevent the application from ever using swap. Is that possible?
    Thanks,
    Bob

Unless there is memory pressure solaris kernel does not throw away a process' pages onto swap.
When you have 3.5Gb of unused main memory, there is no chance for this application pages to be
    put on swap.
You can use 'pmap -x' to check RSS matches the process size.
'swap -s' tells you how much swap is actually used.

  • I keep getting told that i have run out of application memory and have to force quit applications. Not sure why this happens or what I do to fix it.

I keep getting told that I have no more application memory and have to force quit applications. Why does this happen and how do I fix it? This issue has only started since I started using Mavericks 10.9.2.

Have you checked how much space you have left on your HDD?  You may find some useful information here:

  • Force run apps don't deploy on some machines causing zen icons toflash at intervals

I'm having a problem lately, with new apps that I'm creating (for
example Acrobat Reader 9.4) not deploying on some machines. I have them
set to force run, user associated. They appear in application explorer,
and if I manually launch them, they will install just fine. I have
conditions for availability based on version, so if the app has been
installed, it will no longer show in application explorer.
I had this happen a few months ago, and I thought it was one particular
app I had just sent out, so I just manually ran it on the affected
workstations, but now I'm seeing the same workstations having the issue.
The workstations are running the last released ZDM 7 agent, and the
Servers are Netware 6.5 SP8 patched up to the last released Zen 7
version. (I removed the existing agent and reinstalled the latest agent
    HP4, msi dated 5/14/2010)
I've deleted nalcache, and that had no effect. Naldiag shows the apps
are there and passed the tests, but I think that there is actually a
problem with another app that had been previously created that is
    preventing these from working.
I'm just looking for some areas to check to figure this out. I'm not
seeing any errors, it just doesn't launch the force run apps. The vast
majority of the machines run them absolutely fine.
    -------------- Update ---------------
I was waiting to post this to check one more thing, and I had to reboot
the machine. The user had gone home for the day so I logged in as a
different user and now the apps are deploying, so this appears to be
something perhaps in the registry for that user? I was afraid this
would happen.. I'll have to find another broken machine to do further
    testing on.
Any ideas how to track this down? The apps that were "stuck" are new
applications, they aren't modified old applications where I would be
worried about the guid being changed or anything weird.
I'm guessing the moment I create another force run app to update
something that I am going to see the exact same problem recur.

There's nothing of interest in the logs that I can find. As for taking
things away, I thought about that as well, however when I set up a brand
new machine and install zen, all of the applications force run just fine
and install... Very odd. What makes the workstations stop blinking is
for me to remove the force run on the new apps, or manually run them.
I guess I could take away force run on all the other stuff that's
already installed, that would be rather strange for one of those to be
    the culprit.

  • In DCOMCnfg "Run application on this computer" is grayed out for my application on two Windows 7 machines, but it works fine on all other machines

We have a COM application that is installed on hundreds of machines around the country.  We have instructions included in our install doc of how to set up DCOMCnfg.  On one machine in the field and one machine in our lab (both happen to be Windows 7 machines) the checkbox "Run application on this computer" on the location tab in DCOMCnfg is grayed out and therefore we cannot access our engine remotely.
I turned off UAC before installing  (we found that the install works much better than way)  and it is actually still off.  I do not get any DCOM errors in the Windows Event logs when I try to access via DCOM, I just get the standard -2147023174 Server Error.  I have added CallFailureLoggingLevel to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\OLE and set it to 1 to enable logging, but still no errors in the event logs.
I pulled a DCOMTest utility off of the Microsoft site.  Initially it failed, but there were entries in the event logs indicating that it did not have the permissions it needed.  I opened up those permissions and now that test utility works fine.  So, DCOM is functioning between the two computers.
This application is used with DCOM by hundreds of people, so I know the application should be working properly.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled to verify that everything is registered properly.  I have tried turning off the firewall and the anti-virus.  I am logged in as an administrator
I am at a loss.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hi,
This issue can occur if the current user profile does not have enough permission or related system file is corrupted. Please try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.
    1. Assure the current user account has administrator permission. If not, please add it to Administrators Group and then test the issue again.
    2. Restart the machine in Safe Mode and logon to the machine with the account: administrator. Then, please check whether the option is grayed out.
    3. If the option is still grayed out, please try this step.
    a. Open C:\Windows\System32 folder and change the ownership of the ComUID.dll file from "trusted installer" to administrators group.
    b. Rename that file as ComUID.dll.org
    c. Copy the attached ComUID.dl_ file from the Windows 7 installation disk to C:\Windows\System32 folder and rename it to ComUID.dll
    Thanks,

  • Problems Force Running a batch file

    Hi There,
I am trying to force-run a batch file to copy files from a local NBO Appliance to the C:\tmp directory on the user's workstation. The batch file lives at c:\tmp\branding.bat.
I cant get the batch file to force run. Zen reporting advises that the batch file has distributed and launched successfully, however the files do not copy.
However, if i click on the icon for the batch file app - the files copy no problem. I have tried running Workstation Associated and (Unrestricted) User Associated as well as Workstation - Force Run as User.
    Path to executable file:
    %*WinSysDir%\cmd.exe
    Parameters:
    /c "c:\tmp\branding.bat"
Any ideas? The batch file has to refer to the P: drive as the application covers 40 different sites each with their own appliance containing source files.
    Running NBO2 - ZFD 4 Agent 4.0.1.60 - Clientless
    Desktop XP Workstations
    Thanks

Have the app object copy the batch file to the hard drive from the
server and then run it locally. This should work with a Middle Tier server.

  • Application Not listed In Force Quit Applications Window

I running an application that is not displaying in the Force Quit Applications window.
When Adobe Lightroom 3 is running it is not listed.
I have quit the application and relaunched it and it still is not appearing in the list of Applications that are running.
What may have happened? How can I remedy this issue?
    Thank you.

Why do you need to invoke the force quit? Are you experiencing hangups, freezes, or ?
When you have the Help section pop up window of an application open, the app itself stays "hidden" until you close the help window - you have to get used to closing that first.

  • Is it possible to create mandatory advertisement without force Run

    Hi All
1.We want to create the mandatory advertisement with without force run and want to run it from RAP
    2. I already knows that if I will create non mandatory advertisement it will sit in RAP and will not run.
But I want to implement point 1 as I want content to be downloaded in cache quickly and want to run it manually from RAP.

    Hi Jason
thanks for the reply ,I got answer from your different post ,we can give longer future date to avoid execution of mandatory application .
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/a327e7ce-58aa-40d5-8fdd-35df1bc414f1/sccm-advertisement-precache-download-mandatory-but-not-force-run?forum=configmgrswdist
actually what I wanted , is to download the application in advance in cache and execute later in future date
every time I was selecting as soon as possible so it was forced run, now I made it future date working accordingly because I am running it from RAP now.
    Many Thanks Jason

  • A force run problem

I am trying to force run an application set to make registry changes and am
having difficulities getting it to work. If I launch it from app explorer no
problems, just getting it to run upon logon. Can anyone tell me where the

Is it User or WS assigned?
If WS Assigned, you may want to set it to "Force Run As User", or it will
run when the PC starts and before user logon. If doing HKCU settings, it
would not do what you wanted.

  • Force run for workstation associated apps

Today I tried deploying the groupwise client as an MSI app. I scheduled the app for between 5:00pm and 5:10pm (just for testing) , associated the app to a workstation with Force Run and Application Launcher enabled. I was logged into the desktop of the workstation so I could watch the process as it happened. had NAL up to make sure the application icon showed up.. it didnt show up until 5:00pm, which is fine (even though Always Show Icon is checked)... the problem was.. it didn't start installing automatically.
After messing around with different settings, it appeared the only way I could make it work was to check the "force run as user if workstation associated" box was checked. It would then seem to auto-install somewhere in the time slot.
This doesnt seem right to me... as there must be a point to the force run for a workstation association by itself. Tried bumping the version, etc..
Thanks for any tips or explanations

    Shaun,
Thanks. So let me see if I understand. The workstation helper starts before you even login to the workstation.. so if you force run an app associated to a workstation, it should run at the login screen.. but only if you have the "distribute in workstation security space" is checked (because its an MSI). Right?
If its not checked, then the app wont get installed when Workstation Helper starts.. even after the user logs in, because the workstation helper has already decided it cant run it. Correct?
Thanks for your help.. so many lil quirks and want to get it right

  • How to restart/force run of APEX jobs?

Our development server system date was temporarily set to a period in the future, which meant that our Oracle jobs were left with their 'next date' also set to a time in the future.
For most of our jobs, we could simply log in as the schema owner and manually restart/run the affected jobs.
With the APEX-based jobs, we has a problem in that they were owned by the 'flows' user and their password was unknown/random from installation.
We got around the problem by using the 'su' method (see http://asktom.oracle.com/tkyte/Misc/su.html) to temporarily change the password.
Is there an official way of restarting/force-running APEX jobs? By default, there are the mail queue flushing and session clearing jobs but I assume that any other jobs created within APEX will have similar issues?

    Hello,
This is what you can do in SM37.
Execute the list of batch jobs, when the result appears on the screen edit the ALV grid via CTRL+F7.
Now add the following columns "TargetServ" and "Executing server".
You will now have two extra columns in your result list.
TargetServr contains the value of the application server where the job should run when you have explicitely filled it in.
Often this is empty, this means that at runtime SAP will determine itself on which application server the job will run (depending of course where the BGD processes are defined).
Executing server is filled in always for all executed jobs, this is the actual application server where the job has run.
You can also add these two fields in your initial selection screen of SM37 by using the "Extended job selection" button.
    I hope this isusefull.

  • Question about "run application once" semantics...

Hi to anyone still out there. We're still using ZfD 3.0SP1a with the
latest NAL patch (10.4.2002). Things basically are working but we're
redoing our software distribution strategy to try and streamline things
and squeeze a bit more life out of the platform. As part of the process, I
moved away from force run MSI installs by user for basic stuff to force
runs which call msiexec /i some.msi (or setup or whatever...) and
associating these to OUs. I was planning to use the app version number to
force redistribution whenever I put up newer MSIs or installer files. In
testing, I noticed that msiexec was running on each login for each package
and that wasn't what I wanted. I want the installers to fire off once,
then again whenever I bump the version number. So I checked off "Run
application once". Now the apps run only once but do not redistribute when
I up the version number. If I use nlist to query eDir, I can see the
attribute "zenappDisconnectedVersionNumber" has been incremented in the
directory but looking at HKLMSoftwareNetWareNAL1.0Distribute*, the version
number for that app never moves and the software isn't redistributed. The
apps are all set to "wait on force run".
Am I misunderstanding the use of this attribute? I suppose I could leave
"run application once" off and set up some registry flags to control
distribution or even just let them run on each login but I want to do this
in the cleanest fashion. Any suggestion about what I might be doing wrong
or how to work around/troubleshoot this issue? Thanks in advance!
    Michael

Thanks, guys. I have a follow up question/issue related to this
environment. I am pushing out a handful of apps associated with
workstations via OUs (force runs which call msiexec or a setup). I've
tested this a hundred or more times in my own OU but in several other OUs,
I've now run into this issue when NAL kicks off the first app install. I
get a WMRUNDLL.EXE error and no software distribution occurs. The text of
    the Dr Watson error is:
The application, WMRUNDLL.exe, generated an application error The error
occurred on 11/07/2007 @ 12:54:26.495 The exception generated was c0000005
    at address 004AED14 (NWAPPCreateFullObjectName)
In setting up a few machines today, the first ran fine, the next 3 got
this error. I've synched up everything in PUBLIC across all servers; all
NAL related files that I'm aware of (that show via NAL's "more" button)
are from the last update for ZfD 3, dated 10-04.2002.
I did some searching and the little I was able to find seemed to point at
a particular version of wsreg.dll. Wasn't able to find any particulars
though. Fwiw, wsreg32.exe and wsreg.dll in PUBLIC were dated 6.26.2001. I
swapped in a wsreg.dll from 10.22.2002 which I believe was part of the
49SP2 client. That apparently hasn't helped. Worst of all, it seems
intermittent or arbitrary - I can't really see what's different between
the environment I'm currently in that is experiencing the error and the
one in which it's working. It's the exact same base image, exact same
PUBLIC dir... the only difference is that it's not my home OU. I checked
workstation policies in the other OU and they appear to be the same as in
    mine.
I thought I was past this as the PUBLIC sync seemed to clear things up at
another location but now I'm seeing it again. Have you seen this before?
    Any suggestions? Thanks a lot!

Does anyone know of a app that will put a list of all running applications on the menu bar like the old os 8 and 9?  Would love to do this.  Thanks.

  • Currently Running Applications - How to identify them.

I'm trying to figure out how I can identify running applications.
I know if I -- for example -- minimize iTunes, I can see the iTunes icon on the end of my Dock. No problem there.
However while exploring I discovered the "Force Quit" menu item and when I clicked it, I could see that Photoshop and a number of other applications was running...but there were not showing up on the Dock.
Is there a way of knowing what applications are running, besides going to "Force Quit."

    Hi Dr. Dave;
You might try depressing the control or apple key and "tab" at the same time. That should bring up a bar on your screen with icons for all of the open applications. If you release and depress the "tab" key you should cycle through all of you open applications. Whichever one is selected when you release the keys will be the application you will be in next.
