Relaive file paths in Java

Hi,
I have a file in c:\dev\core\CSF\csf\data\test.txt.
My current directory is c:\dev\core\CSF\csf\build
From my current working directory howdo i access test.txt using relative path.
My code from is as follows
Object.setKeystore("file://../data/test.txt"); NOte that i need a URL because the setKeystore() requires sURL as its input.The above code does not seem to change the directory from c:\dev\core\CSF\csf\build to c:\dev\core\CSF\csf\data\test.txt

  // Get the parent of a relative filename path
    File file = new File("Ex1.java");
    String parentPath = file.getParent();      // null
    File parentDir = file.getParentFile();     // null
    // Get the parents of an absolute filename path
    file = new File("D:\\almanac\\Ex1.java");
    parentPath = file.getParent();             // D:\almanac
    parentDir = file.getParentFile();          // D:\almanac
    parentPath = parentDir.getParent();        // D:\
    parentDir = parentDir.getParentFile();     // D:\
    parentPath = parentDir.getParent();        // null
    parentDir = parentDir.getParentFile();     // null
    //Don't have to use setKeystore... can just convert it it as follows....
    File file = new File("filename");
    // Convert the file object to a URL
    URL url = null;
    try {
        // The file need not exist. It is made into an absolute path
        // by prefixing the current working directory
        url = file.toURL();          // file:/d:/almanac1.4/java.io/filename
    } catch (MalformedURLException e) {
    // Convert the URL to a file object
    file = new File(url.getFile());  // d:/almanac1.4/java.io/filename
    // Read the file contents using the URL
    try {
        // Open an input stream
        InputStream is = url.openStream();
        // Read from is
        is.close();
    } catch (IOException e) {
        // Could not open the file

  • Issues with file path in java.io.File

    I am getting file path in eclipse plugin using org.eclipse.swt.widgets.FileDialog and saving the path in XML files.
    In web.xml , path is stored as below (I can't change backsladh to forwardslash or escape backslash since the value is coming from SWT FileDialog)
    <init-param>
    <param-name>filePath</param-name>
    <param-value>c:\new\demo\next\version.txt</param-value>
    </init-param>
    In my filter , i have below code in init() method but am not able to get File reference due to special characters
    String filePath = filterConfig.getInitParameter("filePath");
    // Tried filePath.replace('\\','/') --> Didnot work since \n is a single character
    File f = new File(path)

    No it does not. You need to escape file paths properly. You can check this with simple code and that the problem i am facing now
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              String path = Messages.getString("filePath"); //in messages.properties put filePath=c:\new\next\verison.txt
              System.out.println(path);
              File f = new File(path);
              System.out.println(f.exists());

  • How to specify a file path in java code to run on Unix machine?

    Hi
    I have a problem when running my project Swing on Unix machine.
    In my code, the user will press a button and then the program will look for the file "ReadMe" in the folder "Documentation" , and reads the content of this file. My code is "Documentation\\ReadMe" and it works well on PC. (The folder "Documentation" is in the same directory with my Java code).
    But when I try on Unix, the program can not read the file. It can only read the file "ReadMe" if I take this file and put it in the same directory with my Java code ( this means not through another folder). So how can we make it read the file in a folder ? It seems that "Documentation\\ReadMe" does not work in Unix, or the symbol "\\" does not work.
    I would be thankful if anybody can help me with this.
    Thank you very much

    You really shouldn't use any path method, as neither are very consistant or platform independent. The JVM provides a way to grab resources from the classpath. These resources can be any data at all, in fact, it's how java itself locates classes. Here's an example how you would do this in a non-static method.
    public URL getReadMe() {
      // In this context the forward slash is universal
      String docDirectory = "Documentation/"
      // We have to use the classloader to grab the resource
      ClassLoader cl = this.getClass().getClassLoader();
      // Next we get the resource
      URL readMeURL = cl.getResource(docDirectory + "ReadMe");
      return readMeURL;
    }The URL can be used in whatever way you need to get the information out of the resource. If it was an image you might use the "Toolkit" to make an image object out of it. The great thing about this method is it will work even if your loading the program out of a Jar file. The resource paths start at the top of the classpath, just like classes.

  • File Paths on windows and unix

    Hi
    I believe I read that when specifiying file paths in java, this is one aspect which is not platform independent. So if you develop something on windows which uses file paths if you wish to run it on unix you will need to change the syntax pertaining to the path. Is this correct?
    Cheers

    Well, generally file paths on unix and windows are very differently arranged, so it's actually fairly unlikely you'd want the same paths. Genarally files are either resources, best accessed with getResource/getResourceAsStream or they ought to be variable, perhaps stored in configuration (it's well worth getting to know java.util.prefs.Preferences).
    And I usually find that if I'm dealing with a directory heirarchy relative to some base directory the two parameter File constructor is cleaner than mucking about with path separators.

  • How to specify relative path for file name in java class

    I have a directory structure like this.
    C:\Aurora\com\optemys\aurora\validation
    I have a class Test.java under the validation folder.
    I have various files under the same folder i.e validation.
    If I want to access the file "test.properties" in Test.java, how can I just specify "test.properties" & not "C:\Aurora\com\optemys\aurora\validation\test.properties".
    I dont want to hardcode any file path into the class. How can I specify the relative file name into the class.
    Thanks In Advance
    Sachin

    switch the name in Test.properties and use
    this.getClass().getResourceAsStream(fileName)

  • UCCX 8 file paths for using java methods

    UCCX 8.0.2SU4
    I am trying to use java methods to read an xml file out of the Document repository.  I was able to do this in UCCX 7 and prior, but in 8 it seems i need a different file path syntax for the 'java.io.file' variable.
    Example:
    I would like to do the following:
    javaDoc =  new java.io.File(/opt/cisco/uccx/Documents/User/default/mydoc.xml)
    doesFileExist = javaDoc.exists()
    I am not having success with these steps, as the result is always false, even though the file does exist.
    any help is appreciated.
    thanks,
    Mike

    Your access to the file system is severly restricted. There are security measures in place that only allow you access to the "customer directory". You'll want to use a Create XML Document step to retrieve a file from the document repository using the DOC[/folder/file.xml] syntax. Note the root (i.e. the first forward slash) is the root of the document repository as seen in the /appadmin UI.

  • Getting complete file path in Acro Java Script

    Hi All,
    I have a requirement where I have a field ZPATH1 on Adobe Interactive Form. I am putting a BROWSE button and writing following JavaScript on CLICK event on this button for populating the chosen file path into field ZPATH1.
    *Start of JavaScript
    var sFile;
    event.target.importDataObject(sFile);
    var oFile;
    oFile = event.target.getDataObject(sFile);
    this.parent.parent.Sub_Form_Fields_Mass.ZPATH1.rawValue = oFile.path;
    *End of JavaScript
    1. event.target.importDataObject(sFile) --> Giving me the pop up to select the file.
    2. this.parent.parent.Sub_Form_Fields_Mass.ZPATH1.rawValue = oFile.path; --> Putting the oFile path in field ZPATH1 on the form.
    3. This way is only giving me the selected FILE NAME whereas I need the complete path.
    I have tried below way also:
    this.parent.parent.Sub_Form_Fields_Mass.ZPATH1.rawValue = even.target.path;
    This function returns me the complete path but in URL form. It does not give me the presentation server path.
    Please suggest me how to get the complete path of presentation server to the file.
    Appreciation would be honored in form of points!!!

    Thanks in advanceI wonder how that would work then. Let's take a fictive example. You have a class com.mycompany.myapp.Foo. This would mean that the class is stored in some directory like this:
    c:/webrootdir/myapp/WEB-INF/classes/com/mycompany/myapp/Foo.classTo be able to run such a class from the commandline using Java, you would have to invoke this command:
    java -cp c:/webrootdir/myapp/WEB-INF/classes com.mycompany.myapp.FooHow would knowing the exact path to this class help you?

    You need to configure your config directory before you deploy. If you never configured v2 listener before then create a new folder like "c:\apex\config". Then use
    java -jar apex.war configdir  c:\apex\config
    Then do your configuration as required and then deploy again.

  • How to get the file path in adf application

    hii all,
    i have a txt file that i am using in my adf application,
    i am passing this txt file through a File Reader, for which i have to mention the file path.
    The file is in web-content and when i am hard coding the complete file path i.e C:/JDeveloper/myApp/ViewController/public_html/log.txt
    the application is working fine when run on integrated weblogic server.
    My requirement is to access this file without giving the static file path, as in case i have to use this application on any other machine..
    for that how to mention the file path-
    i tried using FacesContext to get the context path :-
    FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getRequestContextPath();
    which gives me
    \myApp-ViewController-context-root
    after appending public_html\log.txt
    I am using the following path to access the file :-
    \myApp-ViewController-context-root\public_html\log.txt
    again i am getting the java.io.FileNotFoundException
    Does anyone know how to use file from inside the web-content without giving the complete path..???
    Thanks

    Hi,
    If you put your file under public_html folder, you can use this code to access the file:
    For example file is : log.txt
    FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getRealPath('/log.txt').toString().trim();
    Thanks.

    Runtime.exec() only can run executable files. Batch file is not an executable - it is a script executed by command interpreter (cmd.exe). So, you should execute "c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe /c C:\application\Maps\Reports\generate_invoice.bat".

    Based on this, I will assume you are trying to use OLE to access information about the Excel file. As mentioned by Andreas, your code will be executing on the server (Unix) and since Excel isn't on the server (and cannot be) an error will result. OLE can only be used in Windows environments (client or server). To access client side OLE calls and content, you need a java bean and Excel installed on the client machine. Oracle provides WebUtil as an option to writing your own Java Bean. To use this, you will need to be running Forms 10.1.2 or newer. Details can be found here along with a demo:
