Hi All,
Presently, I am working in OA Framework and I am new to this Framework.Firstly I am going to complete the documentation which they provided in Jdeveloper IDE.
I completed HelloWorld example with successfully,but in Search Exercise,
I am unable to get the output for initial page of Search Page(Task 3).
I am getting error which is shown below.

Try deleting your systems/oc4j-config directory after logging off the jdev.

• "Permissions differ" - JavaFM.Framework - ignore these too?

I always follow good advice on here - always check Permissions before and after installing new software. Lot of threads advise 'ignore' much reported on the Permissions Repair (why can't Apple prevent these misleading items and which cause so many threads here?).
I now get the following (excerpt) relating to Frameworks/JavaVM which are NEVER repaired - should I ignore these too?
Permissions differ on "System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0/Commands/appletviewe r", should be -rwxr-xr-x , they are lrwxr-xr-x .

I have taken some advice here to re-update the last Java update 3 and re-install 10.5.6 Combo but Permissions still shows 2 pages of the same items.
As I have had NO processing problems do I just add these to the growing list of items to ignore or is there something I should do to tidy things up?

Hey,
I have the same thing going on too. So, it means nothing and I should ignore it?
Thanks!

• Complete business server/client framework?

We would like to know which free and well-documented solutions we can use for:
- persistence framework
- business data object distribution from server to clients including change notification, server and client side caching and client side locking per user.
- (hacker) security for the above
- User/group based rights.
- Swing MVC framework
- Creating Swing data entry component with default functionality such as save, undo/redo and change checking.
Details below...
We have made an in-house client/server banqueting program from the ground up in (almost) pure Java. It is NOT web based, and we don't have any experience in using J2EE technologies (except for connecting to a mail server). What started out small became a quite large application that works nicely but is hard to maintain. It is time to do some major refactoring.
I dare to claim that almost all the problems we are facing (see below) can be found in any serious client/server business application.
Having said that, I find it quite difficult to find the right solutions for our project in the large place that is the internet. It would be a waste to spend days learning something only to find out it is not the way to go.
So I hope some of you can kindly suggest the right Java frameworks to solve our problems and reduce our ad hoc spaghetti code... Preferably, these frameworks should be used by many other developers and be well documented.
Current architecture:
Server:
Connects to a MSSQLServer database, creates POJO data objects (mapped mostly 1 on 1 with DB tables) and can provide these objects and simple reporting services (PDF, Word XML) to multiple clients over RMI.
The "writable" objects that clients request can be locked by a client before saving. When a client saves, or when the status of the lock changes, an event is pushed to all clients.
Client:
Connects to the server with username + password.
Uses Swing to show components like: a calendar with reservations, a reservation entry screen (including products), a customer entry screen, a product screen, etc...
Internally our system is much more complicated than it should be.
Some of the current major flaws:
1) adding a new table/object requires adaptation of at least 4 classes on the server and one HUGE data access class on the client and the creation of 4 different MSSQL stored procedures (selecting, saving = inserting, updating).
2) logging in over RMI is not done over an encrypted channel.
We have some concerns with the security over RMI (and our use of it).
* Is it possible for a hacked client to inject code into the server?
* It may be possible in our design that clients can spoof being another user.
* When a client saves an object, the server pushes this object to
all the other clients using remote method calls from server to the other clients. If I'm not mistaken we have to be very careful with RMI that one of these clients cannot block the code execution by not returning from this call...
3)We would like to have user groups that have rights for specific
objects such as allow nothing, allow read, allow write, etc...
4) our client side data access class does not automatically provide caching requiring us to create more or less ad hoc caches
5) Swing does NOT have a strict (enforced) model-view-controller architecture. Our client has severely mixed application logic with representation logic.
6) We have a few Swing components for data entry in data Objects we request from the server. They share functionality (and buttons) such as save, reload and popping up messages like "do you wish to save the changes?" none of these default functionalities have been abstracted, so it's often a matter of copy/paste and cluttered code.
When properly abstracted to a model undo/redo functionality might also automatically possible without extra programming...
To overcome point 1) we could use an Object to Relational mapping framework such as Hibernate or Cayenne.
To overcome point 2) and 3) we would like to be able to distribute the objects to the clients on the clients demand. The framework for this should include client side cache and the possibility for locking an object and receiving notifications from the server when another client changes the object.
(It would also be nice if all logged in clients can listen to a collection of objects (e.g. Products) and get notified when some client adds a new product without needing the lock on the Product collection.)
Preferably this framework should be hacker proof.
To overcome point 4) we would like to have an MVC framework for Swing with which we can bind fields in a data object or model to a view. When data is entered in the view the model is automatically updated and other views are updated, without the need of all those Swing specific listeners. Whenever the data is updated programmatically the views are also automatically updated.
For this I found JStaple as part of Cayenne, but I don't know if this is a mature and well-documented system.

After a day of checking out the Cayenne tool I have discovered that it works very well for creating a client/server "persistent" application (including web support through Servlets/JSP).
There is no such thing as "pessimistic locking" of objects and notifications of other clients though... This is a major drawback, so the quest for a great framework isn't over yet...
Edit: Spring Framework!!!
After a lot of time researching I am coming to the conclusion that (at least) using the Spring framework is the best bet.
The Spring Rich Client Project has a sample client application which can be run on top of their sample webserver application (PetClinic example).
http://spring-rich-c.sourceforge.net/
Spring can integrate with just about any Java libraries, frameworks and API's available, and has thought about almost all of the concerns I have.
The beauty is, that many concerns can be configured transparently using XML files and do not clutter your code (think about Acegi security, transaction management, etc...). This also enables you in easily switching many technologies. (e.g. if you use Hibernate/JPA switching a db is as easy as changing a few lines of settings.)
There are however a few things I am still missing:
* Undo/redo support in the client (preferably transparent to your code)
* Pessimistic locking at the application level. For this I might work together with people from the Terracotta "distributed virtual machine" (which also looks like a very good solution for scaling existing applications), or check the Spring forums if something like that has already been implemented.

• What are the relation between JPA and Hibernate, JPA and TopLink?

What are the relation between JPA and Hibernate, JPA and TopLink?
Can JPA instead of Hibernate and TopLink?

The Java Persistence API (JPA) is the object relational mapping persistence
standard for Java. Hibernate and TopLink provide an Open source Object-relational mapping framework for Java.
They provide an implementation for the Java Persistence API. In my opinion, both Hibernate and TopLink provide support to JPA
and they can also be regarded as the complementary to JPA.
Let's wait to see other person's opinions.

• Need Suggestion (Java/SQL)

Hello Everyone,
I dont know, I'm posting in the correct section or not, If im in wrong section, Please move to the correct one.
Few days ago, There was active thread on creating own DBMS in Java. Its not an easy task so i decided to create Object-Relational Mapping Framework and i have done so.
I have tested all methods and its working perfectly. Now i have decided to make it available for all users.
Before putting it on my website for download. I want to expand it and add more features into it.
You can get the Overview of Pikk Framework : Here
I have named it Pikk. Currently it supports :
* Java classes to Database tables mapping.
* Java data types to SQL data types.
* One-2-Many and Many-2-Many relationship between classes.
* saveObject() , saveObjects() and getObjects() for inserting, updating and retrieving data from database.
* sum() , count() , max() methods.
EG :
Person extends DataObject ------------------ + String name; + int age; + String city; mappingObj.addTable(Person.class,"PersonTable"); PikkMapping file will be autogenerated. Table will be created "PersonTable" with attributes id,name,age,city. Person p = new Person(); p.name = "Test"; p.age = "10"; p.city = "MyCity"; connectionObj.saveObject(p); Insert query will be generated.
This is how it works! I tried my best to make it easiest.
Please give me your suggestions and reviews.
Regards,

1. It isn't generally considered good form to promote products (even free ones) here.
2. There are several open source sites which are specifically suited to promotion but also for colloboration, feedback, etc. Those would probably be better. sourceforge and codeguru are two.

• Manage transports (without ChaRM) in Solution Manager?

Hi,
How do I manage transports in target systems (ECC, APO, etc.) using Solution Manager. We have the Dev systems (ECC, APO) connected using RFC to Solution Manager. Configuration (SOLAR02) will be done using Solution Manager. So the question is - how do we manage transports (without ChaRM being present) using Solution Manager?
Any suggestions/recommendations? I would greatly appreciate any feedback.
Edited by: GiveMeFood on Sep 22, 2011 10:05 PM

Hi,
One of the main features available with the Solution Manager is ChaRM. It has been introduced to basically deal with the diverse transports management and related control framework over the SAP lanscape. Having a Solution Manager and not using ChaRM defeats the purpose of installing a Solution Manager in the first place. A better approach would be to incorporate the features provided by the system.
In my opinion - you should configure ChaRM, else it would not make sense to have the SolMan in the landscape. You would start using one of the features which you already have !

• Best Practices for many Remote Objects?

Large Object Model doing JDBC over RMI
Please read the following and provide suggestions for a recommended approach or literature that covers this area well?
N-Tiered Architecture
JSP/Servlet (MVC) - Database Access Layer - Database
Applets - JSp/Servlet Engine - Database Access Layer - Database
Application Layer - Application Layer - Database Access Layer - Database
I have an object model developed using Torque (A JDBC Object Relational modeling framework) for over 100 tables (to be over 160) that I am commencing to enable over RMI. I have got several remote methods up and running. For some of the simple methods starting up has been easy. Going forward I forsee issues.
Each table has a wrapper or data object and a peer object that have setters/getters and special methods as desired. The majority of these classes are extended from Base Objects that have basic common functionality for retrieving, creating, and manipulating with a database using SQL.
I have started building a Remote Interface and an Implementation class that invoke the necessary methods and classes within the Object Model to pull successfully off or update the database. Additionally the methods will need to return objects that represent non-primitive serializable dataobjects and collections of objects.
Going forward client applications, servlets, and jsps will be using the database in more complex and comprehensive methods over rmi. Here are a couple of things I am concerned about.
1) When to use java.rmi.server.codebase for class loading? In my implementation several of the remote methods will return objects (e.g Party, Country, CountryList, AccountList). These objects themselves are composed of other objects that are not part of the jvm. For all remote methods that return non-primitive objects must you include the classes in the codebase for the client to operate upon them. Couldn't this be pointless as you have abstract and extended classes all residing within the codebase? In practice do people generally build very thin proxy objects for the peer/data objects to hold just the basic table elements and sets?
2) Server Versioning/Identity - Going forward more server classes will be enabled via rmi. Everytime one wants to include more methods on interface that is available must you update the interface, create new implementation classes, and redistribute the Remote Interface, and stubs/skels to client apps to operate on again? Is there some sort of list lookup that a client can do to say which processes are available remotely presently (not just at initialization)? As time changes more or fewer methods might be available?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

More on Why other approaches would be better?
I have implemented some proxy objects for the remote Data Objects produced by Torque. To ease the pain, I have also constructed a proxy Builder that takes the table schema and builds a Proxy Object, an inteface for the proxy, and methods to copy between the Torque Data Object (which only lives on the server) into the Proxy Object (accessible by client and/or server).
The generated methods are useable in the object implementing the Remote Interface but are themselves not remoteable. Only the Server would use these methods. Clients can only receive primitives, proxy Objects, or collections of ProxyObjects.
This seems to be fairly light currently. I had to jump hoops to use Torque and enable remote apps to use the proxy objects. What would be the scaling issues that will come up? Why would EJBs with containers and all kinds of things about such as CMP vs BMP to be concerned with be a better approach?
Methods can be updated to do several operations verses Torque and return appropriately (transactions). In this implementation the client (Servlet, mini App or App) needs the remote stub and the proxy objects (100 or so) to stand in for the Torque generated Data Objects. A much smaller and lighter set of classes, based on common JDK classes, instead of the torque classes (and necessary abstracts/objects/interfaces/exceptions for Torque).

• Question about Java Persistence API.

• Transparently implementing an autoincrement trigger?

I'm developing an application using object-relational mapping framework (Toplink Essentials).
The schema design is restricted by certain policy rules, one of which is that every table should have a single primary key column. This also applies to join tables.
I'm having problems figuring out how to make the mapping framework work with this sort of database schema so I thought I'd try to create a PL/SQL trigger which would assign ID's without the mapping framework knowing anything about it.
Now, I've ran into a small problem implementing the trigger: When I leave out the primary key value from INSERT statements I get the following error:
”ORA-00947: not enough values”
Is it possible to create a trigger which would assign the primary key so that the primary key value could be missing entirely from the INSERT statements?
Given the following table definition:
CREATE TABLE myjointable (
primary_key VARCHAR2(18) NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY,
foo_fkey VARCHAR2(18) NOT NULL,
bar_fkey VARCHAR2(18) NOT NULL,
CONSTRAINT uk1 UNIQUE (foo_fkey, bar_fkey)
can I add rows like this:
INSERT INTO myjointable VALUES ('a', 'b');
I've tried it with the following trigger procedure but then I get the "missing values" error:
CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER t1
BEFORE INSERT ON myjointable
FOR EACH ROW
BEGIN
IF INSERTING THEN
IF :new.primary_key IS NULL THEN
-- primary_key values are fetched from the szkeygenerate PL/SQL function
SELECT szkeygenerate INTO :new.primary_key FROM dual;
END IF;
END IF;
END;
/

You could hide the table using a view:
SQL> create table t
2  (x int primary key
3  ,n varchar2(25)
4  ,v varchar2(25)
5  );
Table created.
SQL> create sequence seq
2  /
Sequence created.
SQL>
SQL> create trigger trg
2  before insert on t

6     then
7        select seq.nextval
8          into :new.x
9          from dual;
10     end if;
11  end;
12  /
Trigger created.
SQL> create view v
2  as
3  select n, v
4    from t
5  /
View created.
SQL> insert into v
2  values ('test', 'one two');
1 row created.
SQL>
SQL> select *

• Webflow Web Application Configuration Problem

I am trying to use BEA’s webflow tool to handle navigation within a series
of JSP pages, input processors, and pipeline components. The JSP pages will capture
user profile information beyond the normal User ID and Password (user interests,
etc). This information will be stored in the database, and be used to customize
the user experience.
I am using the validated form tag, and the webflow tag libraries in the JSP in
order to take advantage of some pre-built validation tools.
My web application is named conahec, and my namespace is called test.wf.
The JSP page comes up perfectly, but when I enter data on the page to test it,
and hit the save button, I get the following error:
<Mar 8, 2002 8:48:54 AM MST> <Error> <Webflow> <Error while parsing uri
/conahec/application, path null, query string null - Webflow XML does not exist,
is not loaded properly,or you do not have a configuration-error-page defined.

As you can see, it appears that the webapp is not defined. The only way the web
app wouldn’t be defined (that I know of from reading previous posts to this
group) is if the data synchronization was not successful.

I am trying to use BEA’s webflow tool to handle navigation withina
series
of JSP pages, input processors, and pipeline components. The JSP pageswill capture
user profile information beyond the normal User ID and Password (userinterests,
etc). This information will be stored in the database, and be usedto
customize
the user experience.
I am using the validated form tag, and the webflow tag libraries inthe
JSP in
order to take advantage of some pre-built validation tools.
My web application is named conahec, and my namespace is called test.wf.
The JSP page comes up perfectly, but when I enter data on the pageto test
it,
and hit the save button, I get the following error:
<Mar 8, 2002 8:48:54 AM MST> <Error> <Webflow> <Error while parsinguri
/conahec/application, path null, query string null - Webflow XML doesnot

As you can see, it appears that the webapp is not defined. The onlyway
the web
app wouldn’t be defined (that I know of from reading previousposts
to this
group) is if the data synchronization was not successful.
However, the DataSync page appears to show that the synchronizationwas
successful.
Here are the results I see on the DataSync page:

• New Bie - Starting with JSP and Servlets

Hello fellow members,
It's my pleasure to be a part of such a wonderful forum. Today, I am here to learn JSP, Servlets, and related tech/frameworks.
I'd be thankful to any member who can guide me in the right direction.
I have good working knowledge of Core java.
I have a licensed copy of weblogic 9.2, though I have no idea how it works :).
Looking forward for some good pointers to start with. If anyone can hand hold me and tell me exercises I should do every day, there is nothing like that. I can dedicate in excess of 6 hrs daily to learn these new technologies.
Thanks in advance,

I planned to start with tomcat. Tomcat is a good choice.
I am using my cousins laptop which already has BEA weblogic 9.2 installed. He used to work as software engineer. So I thought it was better start with weblogic, than going for something else.Apparently his company is using Weblogic.
As I am serious about the whole thing weblogic is a better option. You have application servers and application servers. When I say that Weblogic is commonly only used in "real" production environments, I do not mean that "real" production environments only use Weblogic. You can use any self-respected application server to your taste. Either freeware or payware. That you're using a payware one to start with just made my eyebrows raise.
Looking for some info to get started. I have downloaded the pdf you have mentioned and started studying. I'll post my questions soon.Good luck.

• The Opration timed out occurred on calling REST Service in Addin in windows 7 ultimate 64 bit

Hi,
I have created VSTO solution for Outlook Addin in Visual studio 2010.
In that on button it will call Java REST webservice and validating the username and password.
Evrything working fine in few systems.But it showing "The operation timed out" in WIndows 7 64 bit office 2013.
In other windows 7 machine with office 2010 and 2007 its working perfectly.
Below is the code :
var responseMessage = (String)null;
var request = WebRequest.Create(string.Concat(serviceUrl, resourceUrl)) as HttpWebRequest;
if (request != null)
request.ContentType = "application/xml";
request.MediaType = "text/xml";
request.Method = method;
request.keepalive=false;
request.ContentLength = xmlRequestBody.Length;
ServicePointManager.Expect100Continue = false;

request.ContentLength = requestBodyBytes.Length;
using (Stream postStream = request.GetRequestStream())
postStream.Write(requestBodyBytes, 0, requestBodyBytes.Length);
if (request != null)
request.Credentials = new NetworkCredential("Username", "password");
//request.ProtocolVersion = HttpVersion.Version11;
var response = request.GetResponse() as HttpWebResponse;
if (response.StatusCode == HttpStatusCode.OK)

• Temporal SQL query

Hello,
Could somone please tell me whether or not I can query temporal things with the sql implementation of JDBC (or sql in general). From what I've read reagarding the lack of temporal support I'm guessing not, but I would appreciate some insight from someone who knows. I have a basic database that has things that have changed (i.e. same id but different attributes results in a new object in the database). The kind of query I want to submit is: find things that have attribute a at one time and attribute b at another and give me their id (all records being in the same table).
Thanks for your help,
femke

We use Apple's Enterprise Object Framework (EOF is a part of Apple's WebObjects product $800.00) to track changes to our database. EOF provides notification before and after changes are made. The code listens for the notifications and saves the changes in another table. The code to do this was developed by us but the services are available in EOF. Note this only works for changes made through EOF with our notification code listening for the changes. Most people solve this issue with triggers but triggers are DBMS dependent so we opted for EOF which is a DBMS independent relation mapping framework.
