Relay Testing

Hi,
What I am trying to do is test relays, using an automated test procedure.
The procedure takes the following steps:
1.       A NI9472  DO card and transistor drive turns the relay on/off via energising the coil (needs the time period to be variable).
2.       Counts how may cycles the relay contacts have operated, this will easily be in excess of 100,000 cycles.
3.       Every 100 cycles (again variable), the contacts are held closed, the load circuit (the current the relay is switching, which will be 15A at 30V) is disconnected, via another relay and a measurement is taken via a separate four wire method.  This consists of a 6V supply being placed across the contacts (switched in again via a relay) with a 1A current flowing through the contacts, the voltage drop across the contacts is then inputted into the NI AI NI9219 card (this is in the region of 10’s of mA) and is directly proportional to the contact resistance, which is what I want to measure.
4.       The measurement is taken and stored and the measurement circuit disengaged, the load circuit re-engaged, and another 100 cycles is counted before the process goes back to stage 3.
5.       This process goes on until the relay fails and hopefully a large set of contact resistance data is gathered.
I have no real experience with NI Labview.
I have looked at the basic academic tutorials and have come up with the following programme for stage 1, however I can't get the DAQ Assistant to output every cycle
Would this be a very difficult programme to implement for the novice?  The academic tutorials seem straight forward but when I try to do someting it seems very difficult.
Hoping someone may be able to help, thanks
Andy

Hi,
Yesterday I very kindly had some help from crossrulz in setting out the following procedure.  Today, the National Instruments representative called and said I should implement my programme as a "State Machine", which I have attempted in the programme attached.  I was wondering how I might now implement the procedures 3 to 5 in this State Machine format as it seemed very complecated in the brief time we had.

    Hi James,
I've tried to implement some logic as suggested.  I can now get the 1A coil to engauge after the nth cycle and I think it's taking a measurement, but can't seem to get the 15 A coil to disengauge at the same moment, which is crucial else the measurement will be across 16 A rather than just the 1 A.  Any ideas?  I just want to get it working so we can get started with testing.
I'm going to get my supervisor to book me on a course at Newbury for future projects, it's very difficult to pick up of your own back.
    Kind regards,
    Andy

  • Open relay test results

Hi all. I'm a new Ironport user, having just started working for a company that had a Spam and Virus Blocker already up and running.
We've been put on some blacklists for acting as an open relay. Apparently my predecessor had already done much of the work involved in fixing this problem, but we're still on blacklists. I'm not sure when the last time we really were an open relay was; it could have been before the Ironport was ever installed. I want to clear our name, but before I start requesting removals, I want to be 100% sure that the problem is addressed.
I've run some online open relay tests, and most report that we are not an open relay, but when I tried http://www.rbl.jp/svcheck.php , 5 of their 19 tests came back as "accepted".
I searched the Ironport knowledge base and found that our settings already match the recommendation -- our RAT is set to reject "all other recipients".
Here are the recipients from the tests that came back as "accepted":
    >>> RCPT TO: <rlytest%[email protected]>
    >>> RCPT TO: <"[email protected]"@server01.mycompany.com>
    >>> RCPT TO: <h.rbl.jp![email protected]>
    >>> RCPT TO: <"rlytest%h.rbl.jp"@mycompany.com>
    >>> RCPT TO: <"[email protected]"@mycompany.com>
"server01" is the name of our Exchange server. Our firewall is set to forward port 25 to the Ironport.
Some of the tests suggested that even an "accepted" message was not a sure sign of being an open relay, and that the mail server might accept it and then silently discard it anyway. Is this something I need to fix, or is it already handled by the Ironport? How can I tell for sure? I've considered telnet'ing in from my home PC and reproducing the commands shown on that site using a real email address of my own, but I'm not really confident in this procedure, or in the procedure of "properly" malforming email addresses. Any advice?
Can anyone recommend further steps for me to take to be sure we are not operating an open relay?

Thank you for the quick reply, Steven.
It seems as though my Ironport does not have the "findevent" command. When I tried it I got an "unknown command: findevent" message, and the "help" message does not list findevent. Are you sure that command exists in the Spam and Virus Blocker, and not just other Ironport models?
I notice that there are two upgrades available to download for my Ironport, so maybe it's just that my current version is too old. I'm not sure I'm daring enough to install the upgrades during business hours, so I'll probably do that on the weekend.
    Thanks again.

  • Open relay test

I had just recently changed from a commercial mail server to using postfix/cyrus as supplied with 10.4.4 server. Set up went well though did get bit by having some mail come in before any users had login, there by causing some accounts to use the default mail store, when I wanted them using specific mail stores associated with their virtual domains.
Anyway got that all sorted out, with the help of messages other had posted here about similar problems.
I've also ran the mail server though a few open relay checks with no problems found, and have been going through the smtp mail logs every day for the last week and it looks like everything is buttoned down tight. But in doing so, it brings me to my question.
As far as I can tell, all of the open relay tests available are from 1999 - 2003. Seems these are going to be outdated and that those wanting to co-opt mail servers to use for spamming have probably found new methods.
So, any good relay test suggestions from anyone?

  • GWIA Relay Issue, maybe the SPAMmers authenticated...

So I was greeted with a lovely issue this morning that is really driving me nuts. My mail system was relaying messages from [email protected] using a valid user on my system (MFouch). The IP address that was sending the messages appears to be in Lagos, Nigeria (41.203.64.250). I have been combing my GWIA, MTA, and POA logs and I am not seeing any POP/IMAP/SMTP auth from that IP address. The valid local user that was being abused "C/S dos" login was getting logged but from GWIA's internal IP address. I attached a MIME copy of the message.
My GWIA agent is setup to prevent relaying. I do allow relaying from some specifically defined internal addresses. I do allow POP3 in, but only specific users can use IMAP4 (silly Android issue). I require authentication for both POP3, IMAP4, and SMTP. I ran all of the different open relay tests that I am aware of (abuse.net, mxtoolbox.com) as well as tried to relay something via telnetting to my GWIA. I have attached my current GWIA flags as well. I just added /disallowauthrelay for now as a test/precaution.
I found TID 7008712 that confused, upset, and scared me all at the same time (GroupWise Internet Agents are relaying emails when they're not suppose to be relaying.). If what this TID says is correct, how can I continue to use GroupWise?
It looks like I have stopped the trouble for now. I added /disallowauthrelay as per TID7008712 (which will probably upset a few people). I renamed my gwac.db in case there was some corruption in my SMTP access control list. I changed the abused local user's password. I renamed all of my various GWIA directories (000.PRC, DEFER, GWHOLD, GWPROB, RECEIVE, RESULT, SEND, WPCSIN, and WPCSOUT) just to give me some time to clean out all of the deferrals, send items, and to be sure there is not a message queued somewhere. Members of my team are scanning the two machines this user uses as a precaution. I have also explicitly denied 41.203.64.250 access to my network at my perimeter.
Has any of the great minds out there in the Novell Forum Land seen this before or can point out my buffoonery?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jeff

    Hi.
I'm not quite sure where the uncertainty lies. The user yo uidentified
with the logins from GWIA has been hacked, e.g his password probably was
weak and brute forced, or gained by other means (has this user been in
    nigeria recently? ;))
I also don't quite understand the outrage on the TID. It merely explains
what is logical. If someone can authenticate, he can relay. There's
nothing to be overly concerned about, except your password security. You
may want to activate intruder detection... Of course there are other
means to possibly gat to know a users password, but brute force is the
    usual way...

  • 10.5.5 loses config, defaults to open mail relay

    Hi,
I seem to have a persistent problem with a newly-built 10.5.5 server. When I initially set up the server, I checked the "Accept SMTP relays only from these hosts and network" box, with the settings 127.0.0.0/8 and 192.168.0.0/16 - the latter being the NAT address range of the local LAN.
However if I stop and start the Mail service, the server appears to lose its config and will now accept an SMTP relay from anywhere on the planet. This can be verified in the logs and the monumental increase in traffic on the server. Using an online open relay tester such as SpamHelp (http://www.spamhelp.org/shopenrelay/shopenrelaytest.php) verifies the problem.
If I stop SMTP, re-do the settings in the "Accept SMTP relays ..." dialog box then re-start SMTP, the settings take effect and the server no longer behaves as an open relay - it's triggered only by stopping and then restarting the entire Mail service. And as an added bonus, the settings appear correct in the Relay dialog at all times - it's only the network usage and outside verification that indicates there's a problem.
Anyone got any good ideas? All suggestions gratefully received ....
    Cheers ...... Kent

OK, changes made ... for some reason the localrecipientmaps entry was appearing multiple times in main.cf, and the final version was empty. Have edited to correct the problem and have added the new entries ... postconf -n now looks like this:

  • How do I get MainStage to recognize my FCB1010?

I’m pretty new to a lot of this stuff, so I hope this makes a little bit of sense.  I recently bought the fcb1010 to use with Mainstage 2.  I have been following the JasMan tutorials, among many others, and been digging through comments and comments and still can’t get this thing to work! First I tried the Midi- in and out connection through my Saffire PRO 24 DSP, and I downloaded ifcb.  I tested my midi cables, they are fine.  Read somewhere that the Saffire might not support Sysex.  So now I’m using my M-Audio fast track pro.  I set my ifcb CC numbers up as shown in the tutorials, also tried some combinations from other tutorials.  Successfully sent it to the controller (I think) via SYSEX transfer.  The FCB1010 consistently shows up as connected to ifcb1010, although once in a while I have to restart my computer to get it to read. One thing I noticed is that if I control the foot pedals with my feet, the LED displays will change on ifcb, however, if I click on pedal graphics in ifcb, there is no change in the physical controller (the lights stay on in the same places).
Okay, so I followed all the steps in your tutorial, however, Mainstage will not learn any commands.  Sometimes when I press the foot controller MS will not show any midi information in the display at the top, however, if I go into performance mode and press my controller, it will jump around from patch to patch and set to set in a seemingly random manner.  Sometimes the Midi-information does show at the top, but it always is displayed as  [ X 16 0 0].  This is after the set-up in ifcb and sysex transfer.
In layout mode, the only device that shows up is my fasttrack, I can’t get the FCB1010 to show up.  I can change the controls in layout mode from yellow to black if I change the channel manually, however when I change the number manually it still seems to have no effect.  Regardless, the learn function is not working.  The last thing I have done is used MIDI monitor…each pedal and the expression pedals show up as a different data number on the same channel number (1). I’ve spent many hours trying to figure this out with a lot of trial and error along with all the sequential things I’ve read and seen on tutorials, it seems I keep hitting roadblocks!  The only thing I can think of that maybe could be the problem is that my midi-in port on the FCB is not functioning (maybe)? When I run the relay test on the FCB1010, it reads F1, not A1.

I cannot seem to get mainstage to recognize my FCB either. I am using IFCB. Anyone figure this out?
    Thanks,
    Eric

  • Exchange Server 2003/2010 Coexistence Mail-flow Issues

    I've installed Exchange 2010 in a 2003 coexistence scenario.
2010 was deployed with CAS,HUB, and Mailbox roles.
The installation went through smoothly, and the default RGC was created.
On the 2010 Server, when I create a new users with mailbox, that user is no able to send or receive mail from anywhere.
2010 user to 2010 user does not work
2003 user to 2010 user does not work
Mail delivery between 2003 users works fine.
The RGC message queue in ESM 2003 shows that the messages are queued and keep retrying.
I have deleted the RGC twice and created new ones, I have un-installed the HUB and CAS roles and re-installed them, and I have also re-run setup /preparead and setup /preparelegacyexchangepermissions
I'm not able to make any sense of the message tracking on the 2010 side. It just shows a bunch of entries:
    EventID: NOTIFYMAPI
    Source: STOREDRIV
When I use the best practices analyzer to test mailflow to a 2010 user from the outside, the test comes back with a pass even though the message itself isn't delivered to the specified mailbox.
There is no smart host defined on the default SMTP virtual server on 2003.
There is no SMTP Send Connector for External or Internal mail configured on 2003 besides the 2010 RGC
    Any ideas?

In the Application event log I'm seeing this error a lot.

As long as you cannot send email between ex2010 users this has nothing to do with connectors/smtp config..
I had the same issue one year ago and solved adding both sevrers to old/new exchange sevrers security groups.
Looks like for some missing security entry (not sure why) mailbox is unable to conact HUB  (MSExchangeMailSubmission) I expect you seing items stuck in draft for owa (outbok for outlook)
I saw in some blogs similar cases solved by setting static DNS servers for HUB severs config.
Yes that is similar to what I'm experiencing.
When using the Outlook client with a 2010 mailbox the mail leaves the outbox fine. When using OWA new messages just get saved as drafts when I try to send them.
I will try your suggestions. I see two groups. Exchange Domain Servers, and Exchange Enterprise Servers of which Exchange Domain Servers is a member.

  • How much CPU resource takes ClamAV ?

I deal with an interesting issue on a newly set up xServe G5 2.0 GHz, 1 GB RAM:
When enabling virus filtering, the CPU performance goes down, or should I better say "up" to a usage rate between typically 70 % and 90+%.
Running command "top" at terminal reveals that it is the ClamAV process taking all that resources.
I cannot imagine that this is normal behavior. So maybe someone has advice how I can keep enable virus checking but not dealing with performance issues (there is currently just one single testing website and low web traffic only).
My first idea was that unless SpamAssassin filters mails more accurate (it is currently learning - we run it now effectively since about one day), all incoming mail gets checked against viruses.
But in my mind even this should not take over 80% of the CPU. On our old server we had around 500 incoming mails per day, where 90 % were considered spam.

    (1) "mails intended for one our domains we host"
    (2) "mails that going to one of our domains, but to
    an non-existing inbox"
    (3) "mail abusers trying to use the SMTP as a open
    relay"
I sometimes feel that the virus checks are done for
each mail type, also for (2) and (3).
You are correct. On a default installation all mail will be checked.
This can be optimized, but requires command line interaction.
    For example:
    (2) can be avoided by using postfix style virtual aliases and following my tutorial about rejecting mail for unknow users before the content filter (http://osx.topicdesk.com/downloads/)
    (3) can be optimized by adding better smtpdclientrestrictions and smtpdrecipientrestrictions (see: http://www.postfix.org/postconf.5.html)
So for example my mail queue is full of entries that
have recipients never on my server (domains/e-mail
    addresses).
If these are in your queue and you are not an open relay then your server or a client have been compromised from the inside. Either by a script or code injection or whatever... Could even have happened before you "locked down" your server. If you delete your queue and it happens again, you have an "internal" problem.
However since my "open-smtp-relay" tests I performed
on various websites found on the Web lead me that my
server isn't an open SMTP relay. You may try it for
yourself - sent mails via starenterprise.com or its
IP 194.77.100.91 - it hopefully should decline
Yes, your server is not an open relay. Which still doesn't mean that a script or compromised client from inside your network can't send rogue mail.
What are your experiences ? How does ClamAV perform
ClamAV performs very well. On a high volume system I'd use clamd, otherwise clamscan is fine.
To give you an idea. One of my clients runs a mail server on a PowerMac G4 500MHz DP with 1GB of RAM. Not particularly fancy software. Today it processed 18'000 emails, rejected 7000 spam mails, rejected 1000 virus mails, and about 1000 unknown recipients. Once a week they send a newsletter to their subscribers, where the server averages about 3000 messages/minute. Still, the CPU is bored stiff.
As a general word of advice and no offense meant: You seem to be tackling too many things at once. Try and solve your issues step by step. Next think about your priorities and do one change after the other.
    HTH,
    Alex

  • Do I need to be concerned?

    Hi,
As the email administrator for a small company, I am very surprised to see the following alarm warning.
    Server hostname: smtp.domain
    Server instance: /opt/SUNWmsgsr
    Config directory: /opt/SUNWmsgsr/config
    Alarmid: serverresponse
    Instance: smtp
Description: server response time in seconds
    Current measured value (05/Nov/2007:10:05:11 +0800): 10
    Lowest recorded value: 0
    Highest recorded value: 16
    Monitoring interval: 600 seconds
Alarm condition is when over threshold of 10
Number of times over threshold: 15
Do I need to take action? How can I improve the response time by increasing the SMTP job?
    Thanks.

    I can telnet to 587 - I have changed LOG_CONNECTION=3 from LOG_CONNECTION=5.LOG_CONNECTION is a bitmask field: http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-4429/fvkdd?a=view
Therefore you need to use LOG_CONNECTION=7 to get the same behaviour as you had with LOG_CONNECTION=5 previously plus the additional logging.

Still haven't patched, but there was no new alarm - and really no activity on the server, maybe it was the relay tests, or some RBL slowness (though I don't think any RBLs have been triggered, though perhaps they are strill checked?)It could indeed have been a combination of the two. RBL's are always checked - they will only be 'triggered' (connections refused) if the RBL lookup returns a value.
    - this is a relatively unknown system as of now - although there are several relaying attempts not from the test, and smtp connection errors, expected packet, etc.
    Turned back to LOG_CONNECTION=3
My mappings RBL stuff seems to only be on 25 - no reference to |587| in there...Unless your RBL lookup explicitly specify port 25 they will be checked for connections to all server ports, which includes 587.
are there any examples of this multi-threaded RBL check approach? I discussed the approach in great detail here:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5233249
is a caching local DNS system still valuable? Yes, it takes load of your DNS systems and makes the overall responsiveness of the MTA better.
does the auth on 587 make it a more expensive query? Not sure what this means. The client authentication is required to allow relaying via port 587, so it's "expense" in this context is irrelevant since the cost of not having it (i.e. allowing relaying) is infinitely higher.
how/why would one perform RBL checks on 587 in the first placeYou wouldn't as there is no gain to it. External email servers (including spammers) send via port 25. If a spammer connected to port 587 they would not be able to send emails since they are unable to authenticate.
and what is a client upload port? Refer to the discussion here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mail_submission_agent

  • Using MAX vs Teststand for Switching

Can anyone explain whats going on here??
I went into MAX and gave all my ni switches ( MUX) aliases.  This is under channel/exclusions tab.  Under the Schematics tab is a column named route groups. I can give my relay connection ( like close relay 2) an alias here..like "Close Relay 2".  If I click on relay 2 in the schematic it shows a connection between ch2 and com.  Fine.   Now when I go into Teststand >Properties TAb>switching>enable switching...I have the "Operation" "Connect".  Is this redundant??  I already connected it when I called it.  If its because Teststand doesn't know what I want when I call that particular alias will it "Disconnect" when I select Disconnect from the drop down??
Would you suggest I leave ALL my relays open in MAX and just "Connect" "Disconnect " them in Teststand??
Can you suggest what the other options should be if:
I want to connect 1 or more relays for this sequence, do some testing, then disconect those relays??  Is that Connection Liftetime??  So "Step"??
What is multimode and when/how do I use it??
    Included a few screen caps
    Thanks!

    Hey Clint,
NI Switch Executive exists in both MAX and TestStand (and LabVIEW, etc).  You can program individual routes in TestStand, or you can precreate complex route groups in MAX and then call those routes/route groups in TestStand.  Say for example that you want to connect A to B, C to D, E to F, you can create a route group called "awesome channels" in MAX, then add the explicit connections to that route group (A to B, C to D, E to F).  Now in TestStand you simply need to connect "awesome channels" and NI Switch Executive will do the rest.
While you can connect channels in MAX, the intent is that you create the route groups in MAX and then use those route groups in test stand (if for no other reason that TestStand is automated while MAX is not).  Ultimately, you can use the SW however you'd like, but we intend for the runtime execution to be automated in teststand.  Think of MAX as the debug/configuration environment.
Connection Lifetime is how long the relays should stay connected.  For example, placing lifetime at "Step" means that as soon as that particular TestStand step completes, the relays will disconnect.
Multiconnect mode is the concept that a relay can be connected more than once in software.  As long as the connect count is 0, the relay is open.  If the relay count is greater than 0, then the relay is closed.  Say, for example, that you have two different tests that can run simultaneously and they share the same relay.  Specifically, test 1 requires relays A and B, while test 2 requires relays B and C.  If you're able to perform both tests simultaneously (a function of your DUT), then when you connect test 1 and 2 simultaneously, relays A and C will both have a connect count of 1 (they've been connected once), but relay B will have a connect count of 2.  Thus, when test 2 finishes and disconnects its associated relays, test 1 could still be running; since relay B will have a connect count of 1 after test 2 'disconnects' relay B, relay B will still be closed and test 1 won't be interrupted.  The concept takes a minute to wrap your head around, but ultimately it is quite powerful.
NI Switch Executive is a very powerful program.  Once you've played around with it for a bit, it is intuitively easy, but there is a higher rampup curve versus our other switch programming software (NI-Switch, NI-DAQmx, etc).  NI Switch Executive is particularly well suited for TestStand.
Let us know if you have any other questions or if my answers aren't clear.  Have a great day!

  • Can individual ibooks be managed using OS X Lion MDM server?

Does the MDM server in Lion's profile manager have the ability to send push notifications with links to download free ibooks in the same way you can send push notifications to distribute enterprise apps?
Also, will the MDM server allow you to delete existing ibooks?

    Hi Camelot,
Thank you very much for the quick reply and for the information provided. Most appreciated!  Apologies for the delay to respond.  I have emailed Mailradar the results of the open relay test but I am still waiting on their response.  I have tried another open relay test tool, myDNSTools.info, but it returned the same results as the Mailradar. It looks to me as if it could be a timing issue, for example the Mailradar shows that the response for the MAIL FROM: command (250 2.1.0 Ok) arrived after the RCPT TO: commnad was sent.  Therefore the open relay test assumes that relay is allowed even though the the mail server response is:
    554 5.7.1 <[email protected]>: Relay access denied
If this is the case, I am not sure if the timing issues is something that I can control here at my end.  I was wondering if this could be caused by the spam filtering rules available in OS X Lion mail server?
    Thanks again,

You are working with some potentially dangerous voltages.  And your English is a little rough making it difficult to understand your original message.  It looks like one long run-on sentence.
I suggest calling your local NI sales representative and have them discuss your project with you.  I'm sure you'll be able to get it to work with LabVIEW, but you need to have the right selection of hardware.  I'm not so sure a USB-6008 is the right choice as it is one of the more basic DAQ devices, and it certainly can't interface directly with 120V or 240V AC sources.
