Remote Desktop Password Box Doesn't Go Away

Hello All,
I'm having problems connecting from Mac 10.5 to a Windows Vista machine using the Remote Desktop Client for Mac. I have successfully managed to connect OS 10.6 to this machine using the same credentials and program, but can't from 10.5.
Remote desktop works on the problem 10.5 machine when connecting to my University's virtual computers, which is also Remote Desktop. So I know that the client works.
However, when I try to connect to this specific computer, the login box never accepts my login. It just keeps popping back up. If I try on a Mac running 10.6 using the same login, everything is fine.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help.

I do not have an answer, but you could maybe try CoRD
<http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/30808>
I've been able to Microsoft's RDC from Mac OS X Tiger, Leopard, and Snow Leopard. Sometimes getting the correct Windows Domain has been an issue, but once I have that correct, it has worked.
I've also recently experimented with CoRD. It has a nicer interface, bookmarks multiple target Windows systems, and allows multiple concurrent Windows connections, and allows exporting my local disks to the Windows system. It does not send sound back to my Mac which RDC does.

  • Remote Desktop Password

I have ARD 3 and 2 machines with a roaming home. When I open it up on one machine I get Enter the Remote Desktop Password, which doesn't accept the password and I have to click "forgot" and redo my machine passwords. It's then fine on that machine but when I sync the Library folder I get the problem on my other machine. Is the password in ARD 3 somehow unique to the machine?

The passwords are the same. This is an ARD dialog asking for the password. There is a checkbox to store in the keychain which I check. It works on that machine after that, but the password then doesn't work on the other machine. I'm syncing the preferences folder so the ard plist does sync. I set the passwords the same on both machines. But with the plist syncing that shouldn't matter, it should be the same file on both machines. This worked great with ARD2. ARD3 must do something different.

    Hi,
First, please try the SFC command to check if you any corrupted system files:

If this issue persists, it is recommended to perform system restore to get back to a previous time point to check what the result is:

  • Migrating G4 - Intel: Remote Desktop Password Lost?

Is there some procedure that must be followed when migrating Apple Remote Desktop (admin) from a PowerPC to Intel? Like for authorization? Because when I tried to run it, it wants me to enter the "Remote Desktop password", which seems like it should at least be in the Keychain (on the original machine) -- but it isn't.
If I press "I forgot", then all the passwords for users I've entered get erased!
Where would that password have been stored, and is there anything special that needs to be done to "authorize" Remote Desktop to run on the new machine?
    Stephen Greenfield

    Dave,
Yes -- I've seen the Remote Desktop keychain entry -- and it contains the same, normal password I use for everything. Keychain Access & keychain First Aid report everything is fine.
I suspect this has to do with the Migration Assistant moving the ARD admin program from a PowerPC to an Intel mac, because the old machine runs the admin program perfectly, using the expected password.
Maybe Migration Attempts are deliberately thwarted by moving the Admin so that people can't migrate a machine and suddenly have access to all the machines in the ARD list of managed computers?

  • Safari password box won't go away.

I clicked on a website, it partially loaded when a password box appeared.  It has no red button to close it but does have a cancel and an OK button.  Clicking on either makes the box go away and return.  I've tried closing Safari and restarting the computer but can't get to go away.

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Safari
Click Go then move these files from the Safari folder to the Trash.
    Downloads.plist
    History.plist
    LastSession.plist
Restart your Mac then try Safari.

  • HT204407 Notification box doesn't go away after clicking Okay

Everytime I download, I log in and the blue notification box won't stop popping up about notifications so I have to restart phone and delete app to get the notification box to stop

Interesting response, I don't believe there is stubborness here... I would appear the Kmorgz did in-fact due exactly what the Pop-up Notification indicated, to "Connect to Itune to Use Push Notifications".....
I too, encountered this same behavior.  I did a verification that I can, in-fact log into iTunes and access my account, and all assoicated data.  The iPad is have no problems with any other applications "push notifications", except "Find My Friends".  Deleting the app and reinstalling it, does NOT clear the problem.  Again, all notifications are fully enabled and there is full functionality to iTunes / iCloud resources.
I went as far as to RESTORE the iPAD from a backup, and this did NOT clear the problem. My iPHone 5 and MBP are not having any problems with "Push Notifications" for any application, nor any problem with "Find My Friends".   Only having problems on one of my iPads (IOS 6.1.3), my iPhone is at 6.1.4 and the MBP is at 10.8.4
All IOS / MAC OSX devices using the same appleId
There surely seems to be some type of data corruption, which is not being cleared by a RETORE / or iPAD reset.
Toggling the notification center for "Find My Friends" doesn't reset the undesired behavior
This problem, seems to effect the iMessage and FaceTime facility as well

    Hi thingmaker,
I apologize, the command prompt I referred to is on a computer with Desktop Manager 4.7, but this screenshot is excellent.
The next question I have will also require access to a computer with Desktop Manager 4.7, but this time the command to run will be:
    loader /dir dir.txt
This will produce a file called dir.txt detailing the applications installed on your BlackBerry Smartphone, and with this list we will attempt to pinpoint which application can cause message to occur.
In the interim, if you would like a workaround, performing a security wipe on the BlackBerry Smartphone (Options - Security Options - General Settings - Menu Key - Wipe Handheld) should provide some relief.
    Thank you!

  • Using Remote Desktop Admin app in more than one user account.

Is possible to have the ARD admin app use the same database and settings over more than one user account?
eg. I have ARD setup on my Mac as I am in charge of our organisations Macs. However if I am away for a few weeks, one of our other techs would be able to turn on my Mac, log in to a generic account, open ARD and it would be set up exactly as I have it in my user account.
I know that I could manually set up ARD in the other account, but with the number of machines we have I would rather not have to re-enter all those admin passwords all over again, and then have to remember to update ARD in the other account everytime we get a new machine or make other changes.

In theory, you could simply copy the com.apple.RemoteDesktop.plist into the preferences folder of the other user. Then they would simply have to know the Remote Desktop Password (which is probably stored in your KeyChain.)
I've never tried this, but it seems like it would work.

  • Remote desktop no longer connects after installing Photoshop CS3

    Hi,
Last week I downloaded and installed the Photoshop CS 3 extended trial on a PC that I regularly connect to via remote desktop. After Photoshop had finished installing, I could no longer connect to that machine (Its running Windows XP SP3) through remote desktop.
Searching on this issue has quickly brought up the fact that CS3 installs Apple's Bonjour service and that has been known to cause connectivity problems for other users. I removed Bonjour by following the guide here (http://www.x64bit.net/site/board/index.php?s=888c3f3673c453dcc972decd6e67e8e0&showtopic= 4214&st=0&p=40719&#entry40719) and reset the Winsock catalog (netsh winsock reset).
Unfortunately I still am unable to connect to that machine with remote desktop. These two machines are connected through a gigabit switch (nothing tricky at all) and it had been working flawlessly until I installed Photoshop CS3. Now when i enter the computer name in the remote desktop connection box and click "Connect", it shows activity (the colored bar moves) and then the connect button returns to its default state and nothing happens. No error messages or anything.
I have searched Apple's forums and found users on various message boards report this same issue, but none seem to have a resolution (aside from re-installing the OS, which doesn't resolve anything if you end up re-installing CS3). Is anyone familiar with this issue and found a solution? If so, I would love to hear it!
    Thanks!

I have the same exact issue right now. We purchased CS3 Master Collection and some - not all - of the machines are now refusing a RDP session. I looked in to the Bonjour service problem but it doesnt seem to be the issue. Other machines with the same service work fine.
    Anyone have an idea?
Has Adobe addressed this at all. I am aware that more than just the two of us have experienced this issue.

  • No longer able to drag remote desktop window

I used to be able to grab the "Connection Bar" that's pinned to the top of a maximized remote desktop window, and drag the window away from the edge, over to another monitor, then push it against the top edge to have it become maximized on the
    other monitor.
But now, when I grab the Connection Bar and try to drag, the bar will only slide left and right. I can't unmaximize the window by dragging the bar away from the edge. I can only change the position of the bar along the top edge.
Of course, I can click the "Restore" icon on the bar and un-maximize it, then drag and dock the window in another monitor. But the point is, I used to be able to do it in one single fluid stroke, now I have to explicitly unmaximize. It used to
be the case that just dragging the window away from the edge caused the window to unmaximize, but not now.
Is there a setting that controls this "drag-to-restore-down" that I'm talking about? Or has this been intentially changed by some update?

    Hi,
This is weird, I can drag it as my mind without any obstruction.
I suspect this is interfered by some software conflict, please test in Clean Boot mode to see if this issue persists.

  • Windows Components/remote desktop services/remote desktop session host/profile doesn't appear to be working on 2008R2 boxes

I have two domains.   One is an account domain with a one way trust with the resource domain.   Resource domain trusts the account domain and has a number of 2008R2 servers running within.  I am experiencing severe logon delays
due to these servers being unable to access the server that hosts the user home folder specified directly on the user account profile tab from the account domain.   When using my workstation in the actual account domain (corporate) I have no
    problems.
Because of these network restrictions,  I need to override the 2008R2's desire to access that user home folder location in the account domain.
So far the best thing I have found to try is Windows Components/remote desktop services/remote desktop session host/profile/Set Remote Desktop User Home Directory
The problem is that so far I have tried to configure this to point to both a local folder as well as a network path and it doesn't appear to be doing anything.   Not seeing any errors in the app or system log either.
It is still trying to map the path in the account domain.
    Any ideas?
Is there a better way to accomplish my goal?   The servers in the resource domain will be Citrix servers and there will be a lot of users connecting from the account domain.
I tried this setting too,  but it only seems to work on the 2012 machines in my Resource domain.
With the introduction of Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 there is now a new group policy setting called “Set user home folder” and is found under Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > System > User Profiles

  • RD Web access SSO - remote desktop doesn't work

    Hi,
This is my first post in here, and I hope you gays can help me out.
I am currently experiencing some issues with RD Web SSO not working as I would like it to work.  I have found countless articles and guides describing how to get it to work, but no guide have yet helped me.
The problem is that when I log in on the web access and open a published application everything works fine I wait 5 sec and the application pups up, but when I try to open "Remote Desktop" then I get a new log in box where I must enter my log in credentials
again (after entering my credentials everything work great.)
The problems I am currently facing is produced in a demo environment configured as follows:
1x DC server (DC01) also the lic server
    2x RDS server (RDS01/02)
    1x RDS Connection broker (RDCM01)   I have created a farm named "farm01.mydomain.com"
1x RDS Web access server (RDWA01)
    1x RDS Gateway (RDSGW01)
(All the Servers are installed with Windows server 2008 (R2) SP1, and have the latest update.)
I am publishing my demo environment on the internet, i have created a domain name for my gateway and my web access and they are both accessible from the web (rdwa.mydomain.com and rdsgw.mydomaim,com). I also have secured everything with an SSL wildcard certificate
( my external and intern domain names are the same so I am using one SSl certificate) that is trusted on the web.
when I  log in on the web access server trough (IE9 or IE8 ) from another network(wan) and I open a published application (calculator), it pop ups in just a few seconds. But when I try to open my Remote desktop I get a login box where I must enter my
username and password one more time.. after that remote desktop opens and everything works great.
My laptop is a Windows 7 professional with RDP 7 and IE 9, and is not member of a domain (just a workstation), I have tested it from multiple workstations and networks(Also win 7 and RDP7) but even there I have the same problem.
Thinks that I have tried tell now:
I have created a kerberos account as mentioned on
    MSDN
I have checked my group permissions as mentioned
    here
And many more blogs and forums
I have tried multiple settings on RDCM, RDWA, RDSGW and RDS server
Right now I am out of ideas, and I hope you gays can help me out..
    thanks in advance,
    Pouyan

    Thnx for you advise,
Did you go into your RemoteApp Deployment settings and change the server name to the farm name "farm01.mydomain.com?"
    Yes
Also in the Session Broker's RemoteApp and Desktop Connection Properties window change the Connection ID to the farm name as well.
actually I couldn't find out what to put on the connection ID so I had left it just default, but after changing it to the farm name it still doesn't work
Did you sign you apps with the cert used on your RDS servers?
yes, I am using a wildcard ssl certificate to sign all the servers/apps with.
    there is
    something that
strikes me, when I log on the web access and click on a published application (that is hosted from the same RDS servers) then I get a information box. when I click on the "details" button I see on the bottom "use the following credentials to connect" and my
domain and username are published there. But when I click on the "Remote desktop" icon and do the same I can't see this information!!
Also I don't think that its an SSL problem, because after log in again it works perfect without any warning.

  • Apple Remote Desktop not connecting to O2 Wireless Box

I've successfully got Apple Remote Desktop to connect to, view and control various Macs connected to numerous routers.
But the O2 Wireless Box doesn't want to play ball and I simply can't figure out why it won't allow me to connect.
Using http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/O2/O2-TG585v7/Apple_Remot e_Desktop.htm as a guide (this was the only O2 router it referred to), I'm forwarding ports 3283, 5900 & 5988 but I simply can't connect using Apple Remote Desktop via the Internet.  It just sticks on 'Connecting...' and then goes to a failed message.  It suggested that, perhaps, Remote Desktop isn't enabled on the other machine ... but it is.
It seems to be something very odd about the router (it doesn't even allow remote management of the router as O2 removed that functionality fearing it was 'too dangerous' to allow the end user access to this) and I'm wondering whether there's something else I need to do to make the connection.
Can anyone give me as guidance on this please?  It's driving me crazy!

    Hi Jason,
It is often difficult to explain a problem, so don't worry. Let's break it down.
Firstly, does ARD work when you are at your place of work? - can you control a mac?
    If so, this is good.
Ok, from work you need to access your router and find your public IP address, you only have one. You will often find this is the status page.
The IP is usually a class A address starting with 80 or 90, but this obviously isn't always so, depending on your ISP and region. make sure you are not using the router's local lan IP! You will also need to make sure your home router is allowing ARD ports through!
You now need to port forward the ARD ports to the mac you want to control, which I believe you have done. For example, port 3283 > IP address of remote mac.
I know when I did this, I just opened up all ports for a couple of minutes just to get it working, then I locked access down. If you havn't done so then you need to enable remote management on your work router so you can configure it at home.
On your mac at 'home' open ARD, and go to file> add by address and enter the PUBLIC IP address. You will also need to enter the admin user name and password for the said mac.
That's it, you should have control.
If your macs at work and home have a firewall enabled then you will need to update your rules.
    Good luck!

  • Remote Desktop doesn't work with local printer

I am having trouble using a locally networked printer when I use Remote Desktop to connect to a Vista machine.  Under the local resources tab for RD, I have checked printers.  The only thing I can figure is that my printer is networked locally, not connected directly to my machine.  Every time I try to print during my remote desktop session, I can't access my locally networked printer.
I installed the printer drivers on the remote computer and when I try to locate the printer, I get the following error: "Windows cannot connect to the printer.  Server print spooler service is not running..." but the spooler service IS runing.
I also found a post elsewhere that discussed setting 'share permissions' and 'network permissons' to resovle the spooler error.  Still no go.
I tried to plug in my printer to a local USB port this morning.  Still would not work.  I keep getting the same spooling error.  The drivers are not corrupt, as others have indicated may be the cause.  They work fine on my system locally with 7.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  I've spent a few hours on this one and am at a loss at this point.
Please help.  I really need to print locally.

My problem was that the Vista remote system never saw local port that my printer was using for some reason and it never accepted the path noted above (\\servername\printer)...always came back with an error that it was an invalid path.  This was with it both networked and plugged in via USB port.
I finally figued it out after four days and many hours on the phone with Microsoft.  Microsoft support claimed that it was related to my router settings, but I didn't believe it since the remote computer saw my iPhone just fine when it was connected locally.  After simply playing around, here's what I found...it was actually quite basic!
On the remote system, when you try to add a 'local' printer, there's a drop down menu with a list of local ports that your remote system sees.  Some of those will be on the remote system, but others will be on your local system.  Make a note of the ones that are seen on your local system.  In my case, LPT1 was not visible, but COM3 was.
Next, on your local system, in the settings for your functioning printer (Printer Properties, Ports Tab), there's a tick box that says "Enable Printer Pooling."  Once you check that box, you can select multiple ports on your local machine.  Here, you need to tick the box that your remote system is seeing (in my case, it's COM3), but make sure that your exisitng port remains checked as well (in my case, an IP port for my wireless router).  Basically what you're doing is on your local system, you are pooling your exising printer setup with a port that can be seen by your remote system.
Then, on the remote system, install the printer drivers but don't select a port.  Then go into Printers and add a printer.  Select 'local' setup for that and when asked for the port, use the port you checked in the previous step on your local system (in my case, I selected COM3 on my local system).  Select your printer from the list.  It will ask if you want to use the exisiting drivers...say yes.  Then print a test page to be sure that it works.  Worked fine for me.
I simply can't believe how obvsious that solution was!  If the remote system can't see the port you currently use, pool your printer setup with a port that it can see!
