Remote Desktop stop working in Windows XP SP3

Hello All,
We have terminal server (Windows Server 2008R2) and it is working for everyone without any issue. There is windows XP SP3 PC, which suddenly stopped working and now it is unable to connect to terminal server. Even it can't remote desktop to any computer.
I have tried to update the RD client on this computer and disabled the firewall but nothing worked so far.
Someone please help me to fix the same.
Thanks, Manoj

Hello, What did you do before windows XP stopped working?

  • Remote desktop policy works on Windows 7, but not on Windows 8

    Hey all,
We have a mixed environment of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 machines.
Our standard policy enables remote desktop on all machines (and another part of the policy sets the groups allowed to remote access).
On windows 7, we are able to RDP to all machines
On windows 8.1, remote clients cannot connect, with a timeout error. This occurs from other Windows 7 or Windows 8 machines.
    I have confirmed:
    - The policy has applied (by looking in the registry under HKLM\software\policies\Microsoft\windowsNT\Terminal services)
    - The windows firewall is letting the RDP traffic through (and the issue still occurs if the firewall is off)
    - The group policy templates being used in the policy are Windows 8.1 and the GPO was created on a Windows 8.1 machine
    - If I set the registry key HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\fDenyTSConnections = 0, manually or via GP Prefs, it still does not work
    - There are no visible errors in the application, system or security logs
    - I have compared registry snapshots before and after the change below and cannot see any differences in the relevant keys
If I take the machine out of the OU and place it into a "noPolicy" OU, connections still do not work (after setting the regkey above) - however, if I use the GUI to turn off remote desktop then turn it back on, it works. I can then place the computer
back in the original OU (where policy is applied) and it still works.
All this leads me to believe that remote desktop is not being turned on "properly" (for want of a better term) by group policy and doing so via the GUI is doing something different/additional.
    So...
    - Has anyone seen this before ?
    - Anyone know how to turn on some sort of trace logging for this ? I have been unable to find a setting for this as yet ?
    Thanks.

    Hi Ben,
Did this happen to all Windows 8.1 clients?
    >>however, if I use the GUI to turn off remote desktop then turn it back on, it works. I can then place the computer back in the original OU (where policy is applied) and it still works.
Did we try restarting the machine to tackle the issue, for sometimes restarting can be helpful.
    >>Anyone know how to turn on some sort of trace logging for this ?
I am not sure this is what we want for tracing this issue, but for tracing group policy processing, Gpsvc.log can be helpful.
Regarding how to collect Gpsvc.log, the following blog can be referred to for more information.

  • Cannot get Remote Desktop to work on Windows 7

Ok. I am having issues trying to connect remotely using RDP. From what I know, the network was pre-configured from another IT group and was able to get it up and running. My company was commissioned to migrate his old PC (WINXP) to Windows 7. I have gone
through the steps of allowing remote desktop and following instructions:
To configure remote access, follow these steps:
    1. In Control Panel, click System And Security, and then click System.
    2. On the System page, click Remote Settings in the left pane. This opens the System Properties dialog box to the Remote tab.
    3. To disable Remote Desktop, select Don’t Allow Connections To This Com¬puter, and then click OK.Skip the remaining steps.
    4. To enable Remote Desktop, you have two options. You can:
Select Allow Connections From Computers Running Any Version Of Remote Desktop to allow connections from any version of Windows.
Select Allow Connections Only From Computers Running Remote Desktop With Network Level Authentication to allow connections only from Windows 7 or later computers (and computers with secure network authentication).
    5. Click Select Users. This displays the Remote Desktop Users dialog box.
    6. To grant Remote Desktop access to a user, click Add. This opens the Select Users dialog box. In the Select Users dialog box, click Locations to select the computer or domain in which the users you want to work with are located. Type the
name of a user you want to work with in the Enter The Object Names To Select field, and then click Check Names. If matches are found, select the account you want to use and then click OK. If no matches are found, update the name you entered and try searching
again. Repeat this step as necessary, and then click OK.
    7. To revoke remote access permissions for a user account, select the account and then click Remove.
    8. Click OK twice when you have finished.
One thing that I found odd when he launched Remote Desktop from his home laptop is the IP entry:
    Computer> [Public Router IP]:49250
    Login> Domain\Admin
    Password> *****
From the odd port number I would assume that was for port forwarding so I logged into his router and found exactly that. In port forwarding, he had the in/out as 49250 TCP to 192.168.30. I went into the firewall and enabled Remote Desktop in the inbound
    rules.
As of right now, I can use Remote Desktop to remote into the server, and withing their server, I cam use Remote Desktop to remote into the workstation. I just can't remote into the workstation directly using the port 49250. Any suggestions on this, something
    I have missing?
He has Norton Security installed on this computer and I tried adding Inbound/Outbound rules to its 'Smart Firewall' to allow remote desktop and the port.

    Thanks for the reply.
When I use Remote Desktop and use the Public IP of the router without the port number (49250), I am able to get into the server. However, when I try to use RDP with the [Public IP]:49250, it will not connect to the 192.168.0.30 workstation.
Right now the router is program to forward port 49250 requests to the 0.30 workstation.
I am going to work on the Inbound/Outbound Firewall settings today and see if this will resolve the issue.

  • Why won't the Avatar Interactive Desktop work on Windows xp SP3

As said in the title Why won't the Avatar Interactive Desktop work on Windows xp SP3. I have tried everything (uninstalling AIR, reinsalling it etc) I can think of but nothing makes it work. This image shows what I get in return every time I try to install the app. My PC meets all requirements to run Adobe AIR. Why is this occuring? I have the current version of AIR.

    Hi oxide9999999999,
For the moment, you have to install the version of AIR linked from their site: http://www.avatarmovie.com/desktop/index.html

applephotostreams.exe has stopped working. Windows 7 PC.

Same issue, Upon start up I get this error (attached)
Have tried choosing check online for solution, it spins and spins, then poof, the dialog box simply closes, nothing, no tab open in the browser with possible solutions, no reply that a solution couldn't be found. If I go into iCloud panel, PhotoStream has a check mark in it and the same error pops up again. HOW do you uninstall applephotostreams.exe?  It is NOT listed in my Programs & Features in Control Panel. By doing a 'Search Desktop' I can see it is located in Program files (x86)/Common files/Apple/internet services... how do I properly delete it and reinstall? • Everytime I open itunes I get a message saying itunes has stopped working and windows is looking for a solution

Everytime I open itunes I get a message saying itunes has stopped working and windows is looking for a solution

I have the same issue. An iTunes help page (iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues - Apple Support) suggested I hold down shift and control when clicking to open iTunes, which opens iTunes fine for me. That would mean the problem is in the third party plug-ins that work with iTunes. However, the help pages did not say what to do with the plug-ins once I knew that was the issue. The pages said to find the plug-ins and move them to the Desktop, which I did. That's where the help pages stopped, which is ridiculous. Does anyone know what to do from there?

  • HP Solutions Center stopped Working on Windows 8

I have been using HP 3210 all in one printer for quite some time on Windows 8. All of the sudden earlier this week or last, I noticed the Solutions Center no longer worked. A message comes up saying the device software has not installed correctly. I have tried reinstalling the entier software, but get the same response. Any ideas of why it was working and now all of the sudden it does not. the printer still prints out fine, just can't use the solutions center.

    Hey @BOWZ,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to assist you today in resolving the error with HP Solutions Center 'Device Software has not installed correctly' with your HP Photosmart 3210 All-in-One. Being that you're running Windows 8 there is a good chance that if this was working for a period and suddenly stopped working a Windows Update most likely caused the conflict. Now I know you have already tried reinstalling your software and that failed to resolve anything. I'm going to offer a few more steps here to get your Solutions Center software up and running again.
Step 1: Uninstall your HP Software:
Open your start screen by either clicking on the Windows start button on the bottom left of your computer screen or by selecting your Windows button on the bottom left hand corner of your keyboard to the right of the Ctrl button
Once your Start screen opens just type 'programs and features' and the Programs and Features option should automatically populate. Should it not show as an option then you may need to select 'Settings' on the right hand side and then choose 'Programs and Features'
Once Programs and Features launches a list of all the programs installed on your computer will populate. Locate the HP Photosmart C3210 software and uninstall it. Note: you should see a file that says 'HP Photosmart 3210 basic driver' and one that shows 'Solutions Center,' ensure that they are removed from your computer.
Once the HP Software is uninstalled then reboot your computer
Step 2: Empty your Temp Files:
When your computer comes back on, reopen your Start screen and type 'Run'
Select the Run box and then type in the run box %temp% and select OK
When the Temp folder opens select Ctrl + A at the same time on your keyboard to select everything in the Temp folder
Next release Ctrl + A and select Delete on your keyboard
Almost everything should delete out of this Temp folder. If any files are still being used on your computer you will have the pop up to 'skip' these.
Note: Only Temporary files are being deleted. No files or folders for your actual computer will be removed by doing this.
       6. Once the files in the Temp folder have been deleted then close the folder
       7. Right click on your Recycling Bin on your Desktop and left click on 'Empty Recycling Bin'
Step 3: Run an MSCONFIG Selective Startup:
Reopen your Run box again and this time type msconfig and select OK
When the System Configuration Utility opens select 'Selective Startup' and uncheck 'Load Startup Items'
Click on the Services tab at the top and uncheck 'Hide all Microsoft Services' at the very bottom
Select Disable All on the right hand side
    Select Apply and OK
When prompted, restart your computer 1 more time
Step 4: Reinstall your Software and Drivers:
You're now ready to reinstall your HP Software and Drivers. Please select this link: HP Photosmart and Officejet Full Feature Software and Drivers for your drivers.
Select Download and Run the HP installer when prompted
Follow the on screen instructions to complete the install of your HP Photosmart 3210 All-in-One.
    Does Solutions Center work now?
If yes, please re-enable your Startup Services again.
    How to Enable Startup Services:
Open the Run box and type msconfig and select OK
When System Configuration Utility opens select 'Normal Startup'
    Select Apply and OK
Restart your computer again when prompted
Please let me know if these steps resolve your issue. Good luck!

    Hi gourav,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Please provide little more information for further troubleshooting.
Are you trying to take RDP for server session?
What’s your server and OS client version?
Did user have the access of taking Remote Desktop Session? It means we need to add the user under Remote Desktop User” local group.
In meantime you can refer below article for information.

    This problem can occur if:

    • The Windows-based computer is not turned on.
    • The Mac, or the Windows-based computer is experiencing network problems.
Try connecting to the Windows-based computer again, or contact your administrator.

I haven't tried it with Windows 7 but am having pretty good luck with a Windows XP Professional machine. What I did was just found the IP address to the Windows machine by:
Command Prompt, type ipconfig and locate the IP address.
Start RD, enter the IP address of the Windows machine, if the machine has a user name and password you have to enter that and then it works.
At least that's all I had to do. The key is knowing the IP Address and login and password of the Windows machine.

  • Can't Connect with Remote Desktop, It worked before!

Hello. We currently bought alot of seats of Remote Desktop to connect to computer not located in the office. During the time spent here at this office, all the remote desktop connections worked fine. Once the machines were moved up to the new business location, we tried to connect to the machine. We changed the IP's to the ISP new ip, which the server then port forwarded the correct ports to the specific ip for those machines.
We open up Remote Desktop on the computer, with the scanner, and type in the ip address where the computers are going to be stored. Once the ip is in, we can see the computers have been located on the scanner. When then select a computer we want to observe/control/curtain and typied in the username and password, which are all correct. It then says " connecting to "theipaddress" for about 1 min, then displays an error message saying "Connection failed to ipaddress".
something that ive noticed, is that in the scanner window the icon is grey, instead of its little blue monitor and only displays the ip address in the name field, but not the computer name like it did when we ran it thru the lan. question is what are we doing wrong.
can someone please tell us the correct ports to open on what side
what are the ports on the server side that need to be opened on the router/server?
are there any ports on the client side that need to be opened on the router/server?
    please help me.

both udp and tcp, but the problem you're having may be the same one that stumped me for a couple of hours.
You can't communicate with a machine that has gone into deep sleep mode. If the screensaver is running, you're okay ... but once that cuts out and the screen goes blank, it's out of touch.
In ARD 3 you can tell whether or not it's available by the colour of the little 'monitor' icon to the left of the the listing in the Scanner or All Computers windows.

  • Is it possible to get Remote Desktop to work from my Surface 2 to a local PC running Vista?

Is it possible to get Remote Desktop to work from my Surface 2 to a local PC running Vista?
I keep getting "cannot find PC" entering IP or PC name
but as a test I have set up my PC to do web hosting, and I can browse to the IP address using desktop IE and see my local web pages.
I've just found a reference that says it has to be Business Vista.
Why would Microsoft put such a STUPID restriction in?
I think this Surface thing is going to go back if so.
What about Win8 64 Pro? Will that work?

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Yeah, windows 8 pro can connect to surface 2. There is detailed article guide for it, please check below link.

  • The remote controls stopped working

I bought with an official Apple dealer the new i Pod Shuffle (generation 3) to use during my bike rides. After the first ride the remote controls stopped working and the voice over feature spontaneously started repeating the songs title. As well the volume control stopped working altogether. I didn't have time to return the Shuffle after only a week so I disable the voice over feature and keep on using my Shuffle with no volume adjustment, fast forward etc ….
After a visit to the Apple website I saw that several owners complained about this problem and assumed Apple would know about it and be ready to offer a fast solution. So picked an official Service Center as close as possible from my location.
First shock the Service Center was dirty, the paint obviously several decades old and faded, the light kept to the minimum.
Second shock not Tech on duty to check something as simple as a headsets. I realized there was no way to have a fast resolution to my problem. The Shuffle will be send to a regional repair center, I could have save the trip and just go to an Apple dealer. What the use to have Service Centers if they don't provide service?
Now when a product is returned, after 25 days of ownership (can't say use), a product designed by a company with the reputation of Apple you expect some kind of sign that the company is sorry, stands behind it's product and will do all possible to solve the problem. WRONG.
Third shock. The person who took my Shuffle obviously never saw a Shuffle generation 3 before or even knew it existed. She explained over and over that I may (but it sounded more like I will) be charge for the repair. Even asked me to pay upfront a basic fee to cover the time of a Tech checking on the product. And that the Tech will give me a quote if I am to be charged. Furthermore She found tons of reasons why eventually I would be charged to repair the product, however no technical person ever checked on the product. Well I guess only users read messages on Apple website not employees of Apple.
So what now? I am suppose to receive an E-mail in 24 hours to 5 working days, in which I'll be explained the result of the Tech investigation.
I guess most owners of Apple products have a better experience with the Customer Service or where the reputation of Apple being a “cool” company comes from? But based on my experience it looks like Apple's products and Apple's Customer Service may not meet Apple's reputation or customer's expectations. Or am I asking for too much?

I seriously doubt you were at an Apple Store and you were not dealing with Apple employees. You were dealing with a 3rd party shop that does work on Apple products.
Don't know where you are located but you could contact Customer Service at Apple and complain but they are somewhat limited it dealing with a 3rd party company. But they will at least have you complaint on file. Or you could attempt to find an actual Apple Store and take your Shuffle there. Or you could try one of the workarounds listed on the threads here.

  • I can't open Itunes on my laptop. "Itunes has stopped working. A problem causes the program to stop working correctly. windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available" is the message. what is the problem here?

I can't open my Itunes program in my laptop computer with windows 8. the message is "Itunes has stopped working. A problem causess the program to stop working properly. windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available". I reboot  the machine, Uninstall and re install the  Itune program, stilll the same message pops up.

The first thing to try is System Restore to take you back to a point in time when it did work. If that is not successful, create a new user on the computer. log in with that and see if ID will start. This will tell us if the problem is in the system/program or the user account.
If it works in a new user account, see Replace Your Preferences and in addition to replacing the prefs, empty the InDesign Recovery folder that will be in the same location and the InDesign SavedData file.

I had this exact same problem.  I found this fix and it worked for me.
    Step 1:
Browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support and copy the filen named QTMovieWin.dll.
    Step 2:
Browse and past that file into C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes.
