Remote Desktop Update

After upgrading to Yosemite, I now cannot update Apple Remote Desktop from the App Store. Although a legitimate owner of the software, the error message pops as follows when trying to update:
"We could not complete your purchase. Remote Desktop is already installed on this computer. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu to check for available updates."
Three problems with this error message:
I am not making a purchase
Yes I know Remote Desktop is already installed. I'm not stupid
Choose Software Update. How do you think I got here?!
Once again, no such errors before updating to the grand Yosemite

I did this and it removes the update. When I search purchases it isn't there. I checked my email and discovered I had purchased it on CD before the advent of the App Store. I'll probably have to call Apple Store to get this resolved. Thanks.

  • Messages.app no longer connects to Jabber after App Store auto-installed Remote Desktop Update 3.8.2

Messages.app no longer connects to my company's Jabber server after App Store auto-installed Remote Desktop Update 3.8.2 (even though I never purchased that app). The Remote Desktop app can not be found anywhere on my machines.
I suspect the Remote Desktop update because Messages stopped connecting on my office MB Air after the update but still worked on my home iMac. Next day the iMac received the update and Messages stopped connecting on that machine too.
Messages attempts to connect for several minutes (it's been trying for 30 mins as I type this) and just hangs. Occasional I get the following error message:
Error: Messages lost the connection to the Jabber account 'account'. A network error occurred.
    I've tried:
    - Deleting and recreating the Jabber account in Messages.app
    - Toggling on/off SSL (SSL required by our server)
    - Toggling on/off auto detect server and port (port 5222 on our server)
    - Deleting every plist, cache, etc., I could find in the Library for any IM client I've ever used
    - Checked that Keychain trusts the Jabber server SSL certificate (it is a self signed cert)
    - Tried connecting from three completely different networks including the company VPN
    - Multiple PRAM resets
    - Setup a Google Talk account in Messages - works fine
    I'm at a loss...

I installed and setup Adium. Adium works but Messages.app still does not connect to Jabber.

If they have set up port forwarding for you already then that is different.  In that case, then you could be experiencing the bug with the most recent release of ARD (3.7.2) and in particular ARD 3.7.2 and Yosemite ARD version 3.8 clients.  It has been reported numerous times in the forums and to Apple that since 3.7.2, clients are frequently unavailable to connect to despite there being no network issue between the remote computer and client computer.  I have not seen anyone report it who was working from outside the LAN to inside the LAN, but I have the same issue with a number of my own computers that are simply on a different subnet, so it stands rot reason that it would happen from a port forwarding location.
I am sometimes able to resolve the issue locally by SSH connecting into the client computer using Terminal on my admin machine and restarting or relaunching the ARD agent on the remote device, then trying to connect to it again after about 30 seconds.
The Terminal commands for this procedure are as follows, though you might need to include a port number from outside the LAN:
    First:
    ssh ipaddress -l adminusername
    (example: ssh 192.168.1.1 -l macadmin)
    Second:
    sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/k ickstart -restart -agent
After that, waiting about 30 seconds and trying to observe or control usually works, though the computer may still fail to show an online or lit-up status indicator.

  • Apple Remote Desktop update 3.5.2

since Apple Remote Desktop update 3.5.2 when I access to a computer using two screens I get black screen or partial displays

    Hi Cheryl,
I'm not using "Mirror Displays" so I was not aware that a bug was also existing there [Apple really worked like pigs for this update of ARD admin]...
So with ARD admin 3.5.2 the "working" screen arrangement is the following:
(no "Mirror Displays" => dual screen)
Now to downgrade to ARD admin 3.5.1 they are two ways depending where you bought it:
    - AppleStore/Retail [my case]: download the DMG (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1424), trash the application "Remote Desktop" and try to install fresh from the DMG. If a problem occurs, you will need to remove completly ARD: do a Spotlight search for "This Mac" with "filename containing" "remotedesktop" with criteria "System files" "are included" and trash everything (that is consistent with ARD), try to install again from the DMG.
    - AppStore: no chance for you, only TimeMachine might help you, or if you manually backup every application after each update.
    Good luck.

  • Apple Remote Desktop Update w/o ARD

Software Update pops up "Apple Remote Desktop Update 3.3.1" on both of our Macs. We do not have Apple Remote Desktop on either computer. I am in the habit of installing any update that shows up but this one is a puzzle. I guess it wouldn't hurt to click install since it wouldn't find anything to update. What goes?
    Bob

In every Mac, there's a component called ARD Agent. What it does is that it allows your computer to be added onto a Apple Remote Desktop list. That update updates the agent because when Apple releases a software update for the real Apple Remote Desktop, the other components need to be up to date as well in order to work properly. I don't know if this is the correct explanation, but I guess this is roughly how it works.

  • Remote Desktop update has caused me to no longer be able to access work using Citrix/CAG.  IT found my access to be intact on their end.  What can I do?

How can I get access to my work after the Remote Desktop Update 3.8.2 blocked my access through Citrix/CAG?

Can you start Firefox in [[Safe mode]] ?
You can also do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can initially skip the step to create a new profile, that may not necessary for this issue.

  • Apple Remote Desktop update issue in Yosemite

I bought ARD in 2009, before the App Store. It has been updating itself, and in fact, I now have the current version (3.7.2). I just upgraded to Yosemite. All other apps appear to have been updated correctly, but App Store appears to be confused about ARD. It shows version 3.7.2 (the version I have) as an available update. If I try to update it, it fails with a generic error message, either “We could not complete your purchase. Remote Desktop is already installed on this computer. Choose Software Update [sic] from the Apple menu to check for available updates.” OR “Update Unavailable with This Apple ID. This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.” However, I continue to see an update badge on the App Store, and I receive notifications that I need to update ARD. It's annoying.
I tried various Apple IDs and always got the same result (which is logical, since I didn't buy ARD from the App Store).
I suspect that my purchase of ARD has “aged out” of being supported by the App Store program, which now apparently assumes that all installations were purchased from the App Store. Is there some way to make this work correctly, short of completely uninstalling the version I have and buying the App again from the App Store?
    Greg Shenaut

Hi, This is the message I get on all three mac;s with OS X 10.10 and ARD 3.7.2
Also if i do a search in app store with ARD, I get an "open" were price should be.
In updates I see 1 update available and when I click update this is what i get
Remote Desktop is already installed on this computer. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu to check for available updates.

  • Apple Remote Desktop Update Kills Quicken 2007

Today this update (3.8.2v1.1) to Apple Remote Desktop Client loaded and now Quicken 2007 will start but will not quit and after telling it to quit it's windows are screwed up with toolbar missing. Only change to my system since yesterday's no problem use of Quicken was this update. I don't use Apple Remote Desktop, but I DO USE QUICKEN 2007 which is now unuseable. How do I get rid of this update or the ARD application or otherwise solve this problem?
    Russell G
    iMac 24' 2007 OS/X Mavericks 10.9.5

That's not a thing that can happen.  Your problem with Quicken is unrelated to the Remote Desktop Client Update 3.8.2 v1.1.
There were several OS updates recently, which could have affected Quicken, though more likely its just something else that went wrong with Quicken that is causing the problem.
You should try to clear your Caches and Saved Application State folders in your user Library to see if it helps:
    1. Quit all open applications (especially Quicken)
    2. Click on Finder in your Dock
    3. Select the "Go" item in your Menu Bar and while it is open, hold the Option key on your keyboard
    4. Click on the "Library" option that appears in the list
    5. Finder will now display your user Library folder
    6. You will find both a folder for Caches and one for Saved Application State
    7. Open, select all contents, and trash all contents for both folders. DO NOT TRASH the folders themselves, only the contents.
    8. Immediately select the Apple Logo in the Menu Bar and log off or restart your computer.  When prompted, uncheck the "reopen windows when logging back in".
    9. Log back in after log off/reboot. Try loading Quicken.
If you are still having trouble, contact Quicken support: http://quicken.intuit.com/support/mac.jsp

  • Apple remote desktop 3.7.2 has update that can not install. Product was purchased as shrink wrap

I have just updated to Yosemite on my 2009 MBP and am informed that I have an Apple Remote Desktop update to apply in the App Store.
Product was purchased as shrink wrap a few years ago with 3 user licences. However I can't apply the update
Looking at the version numbers they seem the same at 3.7.2
How can I get this updated so I am not pestered in the App Store?

I was able to download the ARD 3.5.2 Client and take the customisations from the generated custom client installer.
To do this you need to expand the Custom Installer to a directory somewhere (in this example I'll expand it to a directory on the desktop)
    pkgutil --expand CustomClientInstaller.pkg ~/Desktop/CustomClientInstaller
Inside the expanded package, there are 3 files which are appended with "_entries" which seem to contain the customisations that are specified during the package generation process. So, we need to copy these to a temporary location...
    cp ~/Desktop/CustomClientInstaller/RemoteDesktopClient.pkg/Scripts/Tools/*_entries ~/Desktop
Now, what we need to do is expand the ARD Client we just downloaded (3.5.2) and apply the customisations to it...
    pkgutil --expand RemoteDesktopClient.pkg ~/Desktop/RemoteDesktopClient
    cp ~/Desktop/*_entries ~/Desktop/RemoteDesktopClient/RemoteDesktopClient.pkg/Scripts/Tools
    pkgutil --flatten ~/Desktop/RemoteDesktopClient CustomRemoteDesktopClient.pkg
You should now have an up-to-date customised ARD client. Note that I have not fully tested all of the options, such as creating users. It may be necessary to look at this post if the newly customised ARD client has problems creating a new user.
    Hope that helps

  • Remote Desktop and Doing System / Software Updates

I am new to Remote Desktop.  I am starting to use it daily in my class room to share things with students and lock screens, etc.  Is there an easy way to do system updates and software updates (adobe flash player, java, etc.) without having to manually log in to each machine?  I have to believe there is a better way...could someone point me in the right direction?  Thanks!

Oh, my version of Remote Desktop is 3.7.2

  • Yosemite 10.10.1 Update - Can no longer connect to Windows Remote Desktop

I use Mac's VPN to create a PPTP VPN connection to our Windows Server at work.  I access the Server using the Microsoft Remote Desktop App from the App Store (v 8.0.10).  After upgrading to Yosemite, I could get the VPN to connect but could not get the Microsoft App to connect to the Server.  I fixed this problem by deleting the VPN Connection and setting it up new from scratch.  It worked fine until the 10.10.1 upgrade.  Now it no longer works and my previous fix does not work.  I also noticed that I totally lose internet connectivity when the VPN is connected - Safari and Outlook Windows app show no internet connection.
    Microsoft App error is :
Unable to connect to remote PC. Please provide the fully-qualified name or the IP address of the remote PC, and then try again.
Please help this has broken with both Yosemite updates and now I am up a creek and unable to work remotely.
    Thanks,

I've only one hint to you, cause I've mot on Mac-Server.
With 10.7 Apple have switched from Samba (maybe due to licence problems with GPL based stuff) to a own protocol called "XSMB"
This had caused problems with some NAS systems too.
Eventually someone have a glue to solve that, as several users have problems with SMB shares since that.

  • What is new in Remote Desktop Client Update 3.8.2 v1.1?

What is new in Remote Desktop Client Update 3.8.2 v1.1? Also, how can we tell if clients are on 3.8.2 v1.1 and not 3.8.2 from ARD? Apple isn't providing us with detailed information so I am reaching out to the community.

Yeah, it tells you nothing which is why I posted. Here is what they link you to: About Remote Desktop Admin 3.8 - Apple Support

Remote Desktop Client Update 3.8.2 v.11 remains in Software Update queue but, is listed (several times) under "Updates Installed in Last 30 Days". This is also the case with HP Printer Software update 3.0 and Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 6.03. Clicking the "update" button for these doesn't appear to install the software, but lists it in the "Updates Installed in Last 30 Days" without removing it from the Software Update queue.

Thank you. I tried that and even gave it a few days to do its thing, but I still get the same results. Remote Desktop, HP Printer, Digital Camera all still appear in "Available Updates", but the same versions appear under "Updates Installed in the Last 30 Days". BTW, I had to manually install the Safari 8.0.4 update because it also wasn't updating.

  • How to reinstall remote desktop and update

Somehow I bunged up my ARD. So I followed instructions to completely remove it and I want to reinstall. Problem is, mine is an ancient copy --- version 3.0  I have updated all along using Software Update. However, I seem to be in a loop as it won't complete the install so I can update. I'm on 10.10.

  • Updates for Remote Desktop via App Store Software Update

Hello, and Happy Thanksgiving. On a computer running Mavericks, I installed Apple Remote Desktop 3.5 from the disk (not from the App Store.) On it's first startup, I was greeted with the message "The Remote Desktop Administrator software must be upgraded on this computer." I downloaded and installed the 3.7 update manually from http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1565. However, I view this as a "Band-Aid", and not a fix. How would I recieve future updates for Remote Desktop from Software Update within the Mac App Store?
