Remote Panel Servers Version

I work at the Colorado School of Mines.  We purchased 5 user licenses for the Remote Panel Servers.  I don't have the CD anymore, but I have the Part Number and the Serial Number.  I believed these were purchased when we were using LV 6.1, and now we've upgraded to LV 7.1.1.  How do I implement these licenses on the current remote panel?
Thanks!
Tyson

Hello Tyson,
I replied to your email but I will post here so everyone can see.  If you go to NI License manager you should be able to activate your remote panel licenses.  This needs to be performed on the machine hosting the remote panel.  The licenses are not version specific so the fact that you are moving to version 7.1 should not matter.
Go ahead and reply here if you have further questions.  I will close the email support ticket.

  • I am getting a Remote Panel displayed on the remote display outside of browser. How tdo I force the panel to display in browser.

I have several machines running LabVIEW 8.2.1 my application uses remote panels embedded in a browser to display the front panel of the running VI. One machine is responding with the brower window coming up, but when the VI is launched it is displayed on the remote machine as a stand-alone remote front panel. About half of the machines have had InternetToolkit intalled, at least one machine that is working does not. the machine in question does not. Could this be part of the problem.
The enclosing web pages are generated by a .Net web server running on port 80, LabVIEW web server on port 81.
Example object block from the generated page. Other than machine and vi information I do not se any differences between the applications.

    Kevin,
    Thanks for the reply.
Attached is a screen shot of the problem. This is from my home machine which does not have a LabVIEW environment installed, but does have runtime plug-ins for 7.1 & 8.2.1. I also get similar results on my development machines.
The serving machines are all on campus.
The remote front panel on the left is what I expected to see embedded in the 'loading ....' field on the Web page on the right.
The application [ The iLab Project ] is complex and uses a collection of .Net Web Services to provide access to remote labs using the Internet.
Access to an iLab Lab Server running on port 80 is authorized by a Service Broker, normally running on another machine. The Lab Server, LabVIEW environment and measurement hardware are normally on the same machine, iLab Lab Server using port 80, LabVIEW WebServer using port 81.
Once the user is authorized and redirected to the Lab Server the Lab Server ensures that LabVIEW is running and the specified VI is loaded, a web page is generated on port 80 that includes the OBJECT block to display the front panel from port 81. Example OBJECT block included in my original post.
I have used this code on three other 8.2.1 Lab Servers with different VI's and the Front panel is displayed in the web page as expected.
Variations of the code have been used since LabVIEW 7.0. Prior to version 8.2 the InternetToolkit, GWeb Server and a custom CGI VI were used to generate the contents of an in-line frame to display the Front Panel. Since 8.2 I generate the Object block directly as part of the aspx processing. Is it possible I need the InternetTookit installed even if it is not used, I'm pretty sure one of my working systems has never had the toolkit installed, the machine in question has not.
I hope this makes my problem clearer, any help, pointers or further questions will be appreciated.

  • Remote Panel and Internet Explorer

Hello. I have a problem with a Remote Panel and Internet Explorer. I create a measurement system in LabVIEW. Its composed of a main front panel and a few subVIs with independent front panels opened from main Front Panel when I press appropriate button. As a local system everything works ok but I try to create a web version of this system. I decide that I can use a Remote Panel. In Web Publishing Tool I was creating a web page for each of Front Panel. I try to have the same functionality as in local system, so when in Front Panel (opened in Internet Explorer window) I press appropriate button I want to open secondary Internet Explorer window with a subVI inside. And now Im stuck because I cant open this secondary window in a network w

I think you have two options. You can open most modal subVI panels
directly on a remote machine. The popup panels won't be in a web page,
but it will work with few changes.
A second approach would be to change the app slightly. The buttons that
launch the subVIs will turn into URL links. The links will open a web
page with a different embedded panel.

  • Remote Panels not working in embedded viewing mode

    Hello,
I'm trying to develop a web version of my project using Labview remote panels. I configured the web server properties as it's described here: http://www.ni.com/white-paper/4791/en/
Currently I'm trying to create the web page on the web publishing tool. However when I select the Embedded viewing mode option I get an "Requested VI is not loaded into memory on the server computer" error on the web page that is created. But if I select Snapshot or Monitor viewing mode option the page is loaded without problems.
I'm using Labview 2013 and oppening the web page in google chrome. The VI from which I'm trying  to create a remote panel has some subVIs that show the front panel when called. Is there anything I'm forgetting to configure, or do I need to have any plugins instaled on my browser?

There you go, good solution. When doing this remember that you have access to the database on the server. A structure I have found effective is to use the server DB like a dropbox that I write to, and the web server reads from.

  • Remote panel doesn't work

I am using 2011 SP1 version of LabVIEW, toolkits and add-ons. I am trying to make the following remote panel opening VI work.
This used to work well on LabVIEW 8.5 but now I get an Error 7 from the last Invoke Node of the second loop. The top loop works fine. HPAC Main.vi is running as a startup VI on the RT target (PXI-8106). I can open its front panel using this VI. But the second loop can't open ST_viewer 1.vi. File names and paths are all correct. For building HPAC.rtexe, on the Source Files tab, HPAC Main.vi was chosen as a startup VI while ST_viewer 1.vi was put in the Always Included box. The VI server of the PXI is using TCP/IP port 3363. The PXI is directly connected to this host PC by an Ethernet cable.
I also made a very simple project (attached file named ServerTest), deployed its rtext to the PXI and ran it as startup. After rebooting, I tried to open the remote front panel of main.vi and sub.vi on the PXI using access.vi. I get the following errors at the Invoke Nodes.
For trying to open main.vi > Error 1352: Requested VI is not loaded into memory on the Server Computer
Fro trying to open sub.vi > Error 7: File not found......
As suggested in the article, Real-Time System Manager seems useful but I can't find it. Tools > Real-Time Module > and then I can't find the system manager. I only see Project Wizard, Configure Time-triggered Network and Execution Trace Toolkit. Does 2011 version have something else?
    Any help will be appreciated!

Thank you, JaymeW. I found the VI States tab in the Distributed System Manager. And yes, all the steps in that article were already done.
If I set sub.vi as a startup VI on the PXI along with main.vi, then I can open it using the same method that opens main.vi. However, if I put sub.vi in Always Included box on Source Files tab and use the VI server to open it, I get errors.
On the VI States monitor, I see main.vi running as a startup VI on top level when I turn on the PXI. Then, I run access.vi and open main.vi successfully. When I click the sub.vi open button, sub.vi appears on the monitor with Run Top Level status but I get error messages.
At the first attempt to call the remote front panel of sub.vi, I get:
    LabVIEW: Resource not found.
An error occurred loading VI 'lvfpp0.vi'.
LabVIEW load error code 3: Could not load front panel.
From the second call, I get:
Error 1000 occured at Invoke Node in access.vi
    Possible reason(s):
LabVIEW: The VI is not in a state compatible with this operation.
    Method Name: Run VI.
Could you take a look at the attached simple project and suggest a solution? Thank you!

  • Remote Panel Over Internet

    Hi All,
Our office PCs r connected internally through LAN. Each PC set to get Automatic IP address. One PC is connected with external Modem. We have a laptop with internal modem. I am dialing the modem and connect to the PC with modem. Now after connection is established I try to use Remote panel then gives error like "network error" and "Remote Panel server not delivered specified vi" though the require vi is in memeory. I had also tried out by specifing the IP address but the same error repeats.
Please let me know how could I solve this problem.
    Thanks.
    Vishal

I have never run across this before, but I will throw out some ideas to get it rolling. Is this a fire wall issue? I assume because you are dialing in that it is not part of the network. Are you able to ping the computer that is hosting the remote panel? Are the run-time and LabVIEW development versions the same?

  • Remote Panel and DSC interfering?

Hi, I wonder if DSC or OPC is interfering to view my remote panel in a executable, since I installed them and now I cannot see my web page. I mean the instructions says close Labview to gain acces with the executable, does DSC or the shared variabel Server or something is interfering?
    What happened:
I have a program which monitors temperature for rooms with fruit, We acquire the temps through modbus RTU, and We see that info through internet.
First I did it with the modbus libraries, and It worked, We had the web page working through remote panels and the web publishing tool.

The DSC Runtime Engine will be sufficient for the deploying the project to a new computer. The Run Time Engine is equivalent to the DSC Module, but you can't do any programming with it. You will need to purchase a separate license for the Runtime license for each deployment computer also.

  • Remote panel and selective control access through Security with DSC

    Hi Everyone,
I looked around to see what labview had to offer concerning security of remote panel and all the solutions I've found only propose full access to a remote panel, or none. The login page is not an option for me as everyone on the intranet can access the remote panel for monitoring but not everyone can have control to the buttons on it.
With the DSC module, I can give securities to the different controls and it works great with the exe, if I log in or out, the controls appears or disapears. Unfortunately, with remote panels, those controls are always visibles. Furthermore, when I log in from a remote panel, all the other remote panels get logged in with the same username and priviledges. When I log out, same thing, it logs out all the other remote panels. So the last guy who logs in gives its priviledges to every one else who is monitoring the remote panel at that time. when he logs out, he logs everyone out. I used a reentrant vi hoping that this would solve the problem but it didnt.
I would like to do what my colleague does with Advantech without any problem. He has only 1 .exe is running on the server and whoever connects to it through webserver, just needs to log in and he has all the priviledges of an guest, operator, admin, etc.. with access to controls and features accordingly. All this without interfering with the other people using the remote panels. This colleague has always been doubtful about the capabilities of labview to do SCADA systems and uptil now, I've been able to prove him wrong.. please help me continue
There are workarounds, using remote desktop to the server instead of webserver but it definitely is not as practical for the client and it will need quite some work to to synchronise all the exes open from the differents sessions, through the use of shared variables, binding and securities.
    Thank you for your help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thank you very much for your reply Jordan.
The NI security info is on the server (local domain with groups and users), and the running exes as well. The remote panel is not supposed to be accessed by internet, at least not yet, but just by the computers on the network and thinkline computers who are directly connected to the servers. the remote panel is accessed through the simple url: http://serverip/Application.html
There is no problem with accessing the remote panel of the exes on the server from another computer on the network. But there are several security issues when logging in and out with the NI Security Programmatic Login and logout VIs through the remote panel..
The 1st problem occurs when several people access the remote panel at the same time. In my setup, everyone is allowed to check what's happening on the front panel of the running exe, go through the tabs, check the graphs, the tables, etc.. , but only the administrators and the operators can send commands to the machines and the production line through this remote panel. Hence some buttons are accessible to all users, while others are only accessible depending  on the privileges of the person logged in.
So like I said in the 1st post, I configured some buttons to be accessible only by the users of the admin group. When the exe runs, it's perfect, if I log in and out with an admin account, the buttons appears and disappear accordingly. But when I check the remote panel, those admin buttons are always visible, even if I am logged in as a guest or even logged out. Is it because the remote panel only needs minimum runtime engine and doesnt use the dsc runtime engine? if so, any work around?
Furthermore, another big problem is that if I login as an admin in one remote panel, then login as an guest in another remote panel, and then logout back from the first remote panel, it says: "User Domain/Guest logged out". Hence, my second login logged out my first user. I can actually see the admin buttons appearing and disappearing on the exe when login as admin and guest from the different remote panels.
So that's it, I would like my remote panel to behave like a normal scada system, with one exe running in the back (on the server) and with all the users accessing it through web server. Several users might/will access the remote panel at the same time and each of the users have a login/password that grant some of them the privileges to take some actions while giving the others only monitoring rights.
I hope that I have been more clear in this 2nd post,
Thank you again for your time.
    Best Regards,
    Tom.

  • Real-time 8.6 Remote panel connection exceeds max number of licenses- with no connections

I've been using the remote panel right along with no problems to connect to my Compact Fieldpoint.  This morning I accidently opened the connection twice on the same computer and tripped the "Remote panel connection exceeds max number of licenses" error.  Now it will not let me connect anymore from my computer.  I've tried clearing cookies, cache and history in Internet Explorer and rebooting my computer.  I've fired up the Remote Panel Connection Manager which shows no connections, and the NI License Information window does not show any connections which have been denied due to max # of clients being exceeded.  Is there a way to reset this without having to reboot my RT controller?  I'm running RT8.6 and LV 8.6 Full Dev System and understanding that it should come with 1 remote panel license.

    LV2014

The boss wanted to see an updated feature, so I was forced to deploy a new version and reboot.  Problem went away as I suspected it would.
I did manage to make the same mistake again this morning (launch the remote panel in 2 different MSIE windows) and after closing them both I could reconnect.  Must be a glitch or a bug?  It'd be interesting to see if anyone else has this problem.  For now...solved, but it would be nice to see a way to fix this without rebooting.

  • Can you use LV6.1 Remote Panel AND CGI?

I would like to use both CGI and the Remote Panel system of LabView 6.1. I'd perfer to be able to implement the CGI in either Perl or LabView, but anything would work. What I'm trying to do is have a front end that is mainly all CGI, and only after certain conditions things have occured in the CGI would they be allowed access to the Remote Panel. This could be pretty easily done by having the CGI write the HTML file for the Remote Panel. I would do it all using Remote Panel, but the I only have 1 license, and I only really want 1 person to be able to use the Remote Panel at a time, but I want multiple people to have access to the CGI at any given time. Any ideas would be more helpful.

I'm working on a similar issue with controlling connections to my remote panels. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the above solution has some loopholes also. Since the CGI script is generating a new HTML and actually writing it to disk, wouldn't anyone else also be able to connect to this newly page if they new the URL?
    For instace:
    1) A person logs in from the CGI page.
    2) The CGI script builds the remote panel page.
    3) At any time thereafter, someone knowing the name of the new webpage can connect to it.
Now this problem could be solved if the newly generated page could be sent directly to the person who has logged in if session variables were used within a single web server. However, since two separate web servers are being
used, this is probably not possible.
If anyone has a solution to this new problem or can refute what I've just said, please let me know. I have been running over how to do use a login system repeatedly without success. I really don't want to default back to using IP addresses to block access since my users will be 1) spread across multiple IP ranges and 2) more than likely unable to provide their own IP addresses if requested.
    Thanks,
    Pete

  • How to make a remote panel file dialog open remote directory from any computer

Hello to everybody. I am using Labview 6.1 and I would like to know how to make a remote panel file dialog open remote directory from any computer (Not only from a specific computer. If I open the file with a specific computer, I have to conect the path of the remote machine, but if I don´t know which remote computer is going to run the aplication, how can I do it?)?

    Hi!
first you have to know progammatically the name of the remote pc connected to your server: this is a problem!
I did not find a straigth way, LV 6.1 doesn't allow much progammatic control on the remote panel connection feature, but I'm confident that in the next LV version this will be improved!
The point is that the Remote Panel Connection Manager (from the Tools menu) has all the informations about the connection: client name, server vi and whatever.
This application is embedded in the \PROJECT\REMOTEPANEL.LLB and consists of a set of password protected vis.
So here's the trick: use VIServer to grab data from the rpcm Get Server Data.vi when the Remote Panel Connection Manager is in run mode. By this you get all the informations (not only client name)o
f the remote panel connection. See my example.
By the way use client machine name to build the file dialog function input path.
If anybody has an alternative method it would be more than appreciated to share it.
    Good luck,
    Alberto Locatelli

  • Remote panel plugin support for Firefox browser?

I think I've been through all the relevant material on the NI site, but to no avail. I used to be able to make Remote Panels work with Mozilla by copying the NPLVWin32.dll into the Mozilla plugins directory. This doesn't seem to work with Firefox--at least, not with my Firefox.
I have XP, Firefox 1.0, and LabVIEW 7.1.1, and these tests are all on the machine that has LabVIEW installed, so the run-time engine is not the issue. The symptom is that I get "Click here to download plugin" when trying to load a page with an embedded panel no matter what things I do in the Firefox plugins folder.
Any ideas? I think that Firefox/Mozilla are closing in on 10% market penetration, with much higher rates in Europe, and I'm wondering if others have made this work. This experience has also made me want to know more about how browser plugins work (how the supporting library is selected and located by the browser, how the OBJECT and EMBED tags work, etc.), so good tips on explanatory nuggets are also appreciated.
    Thanks,

Here the official statement from NI
The crash happens when LabVIEW can't open the catch-all font of "fixed" as a fallback when a particular font is not available on the system. The "fixed" font is ALWAYS supposed to be available on the system. The "fixed" font is provided by a font alias in the file /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/fonts.alias. The alias should be defined in the first few lines of this text file. On a SuSE system where the crash is occurring, do an 'xlsfonts | grep fixed' . In a correct configuration, you should see a font called simply "fixed" in the output, but if not, this will cause the LV crash. I have not actually been able to reproduce the problem here without intentionally deleting this alias, because "fixed" is available on our SuSE syste
m with the XFree86 packages from SuSE 8.2 installed. It's possible that this problem has already been corrected by SuSE, and the packages on their FTP site have been updated from the original CD release. Workaround: Download XFree86-4.0.3-19.i386.rpm or later from ftp.suse.com (or a mirror; ftp.mcs.anl.gov is a really fast one in the USA) and upgrade your X server. Verify that "xlsfonts | grep fixed" reports that the font is available. LabVIEW should then display an ugly fixed-width font for the missing font(s), but not crash.
