Remove RAID in S10 system

I have an S10 Thinkstation purchased 1/09 with a two-drive SATA RAID 1 array. It came with WIN7 but I ordered it with no OS and installed WINXP myself. I remember it was quite difficult.
Now I need to upgrade to WIN7. In the process I would like to remove the (now degraded) RAID array and install WIN7 on a (new) formatted spare hard drive that I ordered with the system. I will use the two existing RAID drives as backup drives within the case (I use MOZY for backup as well). There is also a third, older hard drive, from my previous workstation, installed as a backup drive. I also have a smaller external hard drive with two swsppable drives.
It's been a long time since I fussed around under the hood and I don't recall if the RAID was set up in the BIOS or just configured during the install.
Can anyone help an old retired woman with a How-to-Uninstall RAID walk-through? I'd like to preserve all the drives I can.

This part of your question is probably better suited for the Microsoft forums as the details about licensing can get kind of tricky.  As far as I know, those "system builder" installation discs are just that...for use by system builders.  I believe that the major difference between those versions and retail versions is that there is no path for upgrading and existing OS...only a clean full intstall of the new OS.  If your intent is to do a clean installation, you are essentially the system builder andI think you might be OK.
But as I mentioned, it's probably better to check with the MSFT forums to be sure before proceeding as you'll likely not be able to return anything after it's been opened.
Also, keep in mind using a 32-bit OS puts a pretty massive limitation on the amount of memory you'll be able to use in your system.  32-bit operating systems can't address more than 4GB of memory.  Of that, probably less than 3GB will actually be usable (avaries based on configuration and BIOS settings).  64-bit is really the way to go if you can swing it.  Just some food for thought.

  • I am using 10.6.8 and I cannot get an Imac to appear in workgroup manager, the mac is bound to both AD and OD. I have removed the bindings, rebuilt the mac and also removed it from bot system but still it does not appear in OD in work group manager.

I have a mac which is connected to a network and is bound to both OD and AD with no issues on my server when I try to manage it through Workgroup manager it does not appear.
I have unbound it , removed it from both systems completely and even rebuilt it but it still does not appear in WGM.

If your server is 10.6 and your client is 10.7 you'll have to add it manually to WGM
via mac address.  10.7 clients don"t automatically appear in 10.6 server wgm

  • How do I remove dozens of "protected system" fonts from my computer?

There are dozens of foreign language fonts installed on my system, (how they got there, I don't know, but I suspect the Cloud programs installed them at some time or another) and all they do is clutter up the selection list when I try to select a font to use. (No, the "hide foreign language" tool in Windows doesn't fix the problem.) I went to my Windows 7 control panel Fonts page and selected all the fonts I wanted to remove and hit Delete. Fine for some, but I kept getting a warning that the font I was trying to remove was a "protected system" font and could not be removed. Horse manure! I don't need them, I don't want them, and I want them removed from my system. So, how do I get these fonts "un-protected" so I can delete them forever from my computer??

Thanks for the link. It appears that the problem is with Windows, and not something the Cloud did to my computer after all. From what I can tell, people have been upset about this since sometime in 2009, and the only way to remedy it is to edit the registry and/or change the ownership of the files and grant administrator permissions to myself (somehow even more than I already have). It WOULD be nice if Adobe at least found a way to comply with MS's file hiding scheme so Photoshop and Dreamweaver and InDesign would not show all of the unneeded, unwanted, and unnecessary foreign language fonts that MS won't let us mere users delete. Thanks for the help, anyway.

  • How to remove a camera from System Info hardware

    Hello,
My son installed a program to modify his webcam when on Skype to friends etc. As he no longer uses it we decided to remove it from the system. Found the program and dragged it to trash.
But now whenever we open the webcam it defaults to the no-longer installed program input
I can not find any other files the program has left behind.
But in system information CamMask is still listed.
Is there a way I can remove this from being recognised?

Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
I never install system modifications myself, and except as stated in this comment, I don't know how to uninstall them. You'll have to do your own research to find that information.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickMyMac” (a hypothetical example.) First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickmymac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickMyMac.” If not, open “BrickMyMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button. The uninstaller might also be accessed by clicking the Customize button, if there is one.
Back up all data before making any changes.
You will generally have to restart the computer in order to complete an uninstallation. Until you do that, there may be no effect, or unpredictable effects.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase and install OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software.

Upon clicking OK, selecting something to analyze, and moving on to the VI  Analyzer - Select Tests dialog, the Tests selection control is completely empty and the Analyze button is greyed out.
I'm runing LabVIEW 2013 on Windows 7, VI analyzer did work before, and I have tried both repairing and uninstalling LabVIEW (then reinstalling) already. If I do not select a config file or try to reset all test configurations, the Tests control remains empty.
Is there any way to reinstate the tests, or fix just the VI Analyzer toolkit?
The only thing that I remember changing since I last ran the analyzer is that I installed DIAdem.

The suggested search (from LV2013) brought me to the 2014 toolkit,
    That is unfortunate.
Perhaps the Tools network needs a tweak

I inherited an older MacPro5,1 which has a RAID card in it, but it's complaining that the RAID battery is dead.  I don't want to RAID the drives in it anyway, but I'm not sure how to proceed at this point.  Do I just power the machine down, remove the RAID card, then the machine will pick it up as 4 individual drives the next time it boots?

Hello (hopefully someone can shed some light on my issue)
I own as above a MAC PRO (Early 2008) this has a RAID card installed along with two 15k.7 cheetah hdd (320gb) and a spare drive, (which i made a regular drive)
a while ago i had to replace the RAID card battery, so i did this, over a year later the same thing happened again, but as previous just left it and the system seemed fine for ages, until last night i was working in PHOTOSHOP and everything just froze and the screen kind of appeared GREEN, could not do a single thing. So restarted the mac, this time grey screen for ages and a message appeared, (macs version of blue screen) (see attached).
I restarted the machine and this time a flashing question mark folder!
    could not do a thing.
so i found my copy of snow leopard and got the computer to run this and at least launch the DISK UTILITY and (Interestingly in the drop down menu RAID UTILITY was also in the menu) but it did not matter which utility i used the (RAID or DISK) neither could see any of drives, just the dvd drive.
so looked around on you tube and various forums and discovered if i take out the RAID CARD and re-plug the main lead from the RAID card back in to the LOGIC BOARD I would be reverting the MAC to a normal regular non-RAID computer.
After performing this HARDWARE task and inserting all three HDD, and running the DISK utility from the drop down menu via the SNOW LEOPARD disc.
(interestingly since the RAID card had been removed the RAID UTILITY  from the drop down menu no longer appeared). running disk utility I can now only see the regular (spare) hdd and DVD Drive, but the two RAID HDD , again, still do not show up DISK UTILITY?
O.K. so i could chuck out the RAID card (AND RAID HDD) and just go with a regular set-up, and run a back restore from Time Machine on a NEW hdd purchased.
but what is wrong with the RAID, is the card at fault or are both HDD used for the RAID knackered? can i perform any tests, to see whats what?
thanks for your help in advanced.

hello people, the issue was in fact the GRAPHICS card nothing to do with the HDD or RAID system ( although this did cause issues with the RAID system it basically lost its way) below is my replay to another similar  problem some one else had!
working in photoshop and then everything stopped working and the lot froze! only option was to force shutdown (via button).
and try to restart, hoping all was fine, this was not the case :-(
I had the added issue of the RAID card system, that i have, this was confused to say the lease and would not behave or work, causing the start up to hang.
so i thought the HDD must be bust and the root cause. ( but soon learnt it was not the cause )
...bought a new HDD removed the RAID card and replugged the cable from RAID card into LOGIC board, ( making the computer act like any normal non-RAID system). I managed to install the OSX, using the snow leopard disk way. once the mac was running, i started to notice the screen would flicker and started to see 'artefacts'. so i started to reveal my symptoms to the web and forums and soon discovered that my graphics card could be the issue all along?.
    (nvidia geforce 8800gt 2x dvi).
I read up on that a fix, could be either A. reply the thermal paste, as the card could be over heating or B. stick the card in the oven trick.
Tried option A. first and nothing still issues, so last night took the plunge carried out option B. and ta da it worked! i even managed to run
from my new HDD my lasted install OS X, absolutely fine. I then thought, maybe i could repair my RAID so replugged all the HARDWARD back in and
carried out a disk repair and disk permissions on drives( took a small amount of time), via the SNOW LEOPARD disc - (Disk utilities) and this worked and now have my system working as it was just over 6 days ago.
what was the cost to get this?  bought a new hdd so 40.00gbp and thermal paste and cleaner kit ( your still need to do this ) search video card trick on you tube.
and renew thermal paste, approx 15.00gbp, technically i don't need the new HDD, but it was all part of the trial and error way i went. ( i do have extra storage as a result!)"

  • 10.7 Server - Remove RAID 0 ?

Hi, I recently upgraded my Mac Mini SL server to Lion server ... after having some troubles I reinstalled it.
I configured the drives (2x500GB) to be in a raid array (mirror).
Is it possible to remove the raid easily?
    i was thinking of:
    - Superduper the entire disk to an external device
    - Remove the raid config leaving 2 separate disks
    - Restore the superduper image to the first disk;
    - (use the second one as a TM-backup).
I not quite happy with Lion as it is extremely slow. Opening safari or any othe application causes the system to not respond for a few seconds, even minutes. Could the raid config be a cause of these hickups?
    Kind regards
    Y

Is the OS installed on the RAID drive? It seems really strange that everything would be so slow... are you sure both drives are healthy? Have you run Techtool Pro or some other disk utility on them?
As far as cloning the drive, your plan should work. I use CCC to clone my boot volume nightly, and can boot back and forth as needed. But if the drives are running poorly (the drives in the Mac Mini are like 5200 RPM laptop drives), it might take forever to clone.

  • Removing RAID config

I purchased a used external LaCie drive that had RAID configured. when I connect I see two drives of equal size in disk utility. I would like to remove the RAID config and have it be one disk. Can someone tell me how? sorry if this is a redundant question (pardon the pun) but I searched thru help and this forum and cant find anything.
    thanks in advance, Mike
    Dual 1.8GHz or PBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Open Disk Utility, select the RAID set from the left side list (the one with the RAID size) then click on the RAID tab in the DU main window. Select the main entry in the list view with the RAID Set label (it will also have the word "Online" in green), then click on the Delete button.
All data will likely be lost so if you have anything on the drive you want saved be sure to backup first.

  • Removing Raid 0 and reinstalling

My XP Pro install on a raid-o array with 4 partitions went fast and smoothly, only to discover that XP Pro was installed on the last (G)partition. (I know where I made the wrong turn!) Want to have XP on C partition. Cannot format C nor the G partition.  What is the cleanest way to remove XP from G and reinstall on C?  Delete the raid-0 array and start from scratch? If so, how do I delete the array?  Use a "Wipe & Zap" program to zero out all the partitions?  Any suggestions?  Two Maxtors 80 GB Ultra ATA/133, populated on the IDE3 on a MSI 875P NEO mobd.

    CD-Rom Drive and Burner on IDE 1 & 2.

You cannot format either partition because they are part of the correct functioning of the OS. The c: drive houses the bootloader, and the g: drive is the system partition.
This has always been the case with any windows system.
IE, from win9x you could not format the c: drive when booted into windows. With NT/2000/XP there has been an addition for the bootloader, which always installs on the first active partition.
You should however be able to boot from the winXP cd and format them from the setup, after which it's only a few more clicks to reinstall winXP.

HP Officejet 4500 Wireless All-in-One Printer - G510n    w/operating system     Windows XP Professional
I installed the printer in February and the disk did not finalize the setup process.  I went online and
down loaded the drivers and software that was offered from the HP website.
The printer works, but as the months have gone along, I keep getting updates for the printer and
the system needs to reboot and it does automatically.
Now I am getting a blue screen with a critical dump error message.  HP error reporting keeps sending
the same message back to restore to earlier date before the updates.  That worked for awhile.  Now
HP Error system says that malware has corrupted and needs to remove system file     spooldr.sys
Is this in your driver software.  Spooldr is the system that caches pages of data for printing in chronological
    order....
Can I uninstall my software and drivers and change to the plain & simple, print and scan to prevent the
spool driver from loading to my system?

Thank you for your input.  But, It is amazing that you can tell me that I was infected with  rootkit.
Without information as to how to fix, your information is after the fact and useless.
I used the Safety Scanner provided to me by HP.  A full scan didn't detect any Malware in any files on my system.  But the last screen dump provided the information that   spooldr.sys  was corrupted and  needed
    to be removed.
Coming into HP Form, I did read on the HP website that my system Windows XP Professional was not listed
and noted that the software may have not been just what I needed.  This was the reason for the question
about uninstalling and reinstalling less of the program.  I really don't need my printer to print backward and
that is all I see that it is doing that other printers don't.
Besides, Kudos goes to the person from HP who sent the email,  suggesting I used the HP Update software and drives recommended  for my computer system.  Computer, printer is working, back to normal and hasn't taken a dump since, I uploaded  software and drives for Windows XP Professional.

The first one is where the panic occurred, so you might try removing whatever the mouse is and its driver to see if the problem is resolved. Alternatively, boot into Safe Mode and see if the panics stop.

You can reinstall OS X to return to an earlier version:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download the appropriate Combo Updater to return to the version you desire from support.apple.com/downloads/.

  • Removing RAID card from MacPro (2006)

I have a Mac Pro 1,1 (2006) which had been used as a server. It has an Apple RAID card installed (the first version, blue one, part number A1247).
I am now using this computer at home. The RAID card has failed. I'd like to remove it, reformat the drives and use the computer as a non-RAID version.
I have physically removed and unplugged the RAID card from the connector. I reinstalled the hard drives. However, when I boot up off the Snow Leopard Install DVD, Disk Utility cannot find the four hard drives that had previously been plugged into the RAID Card.
Am I missing a step somewhere? Is there more hardware beyond just the RAID card itself I needed to remove, and if so, can someone point me to the instructions on how to do it?
    Thanks!
    Matt

Just to elabroate on The hatter's post and in case anyone else stumbles upon this thread when searching about removing the Apple RAID card from the Mac Pro (pre-2009), the answer is within the first link in The hatter's post, namely this Apple user guide on installing the RAID card: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/MacPro_RAIDCard_Installation.pdf
Basically, there's an iPass cable that connects the hard drives to the motherboard - but when you have your Mac configured with an Apple RAID card the iPass cable is connected to the RAID card instead of the motherboard. So when you remove the RAID card you need to connect the iPass cable back to your motherboard and that involves removing the fans, which is a tad fiddly. Make sure you've got a good magnetic screwdriver that doesn't chew screws!
Hope this helps someone out there
I've finally managed to replace my RAID card and dual SAS drives with a Vertex 2 SSD and I'm loving the speed, quietness and most importantly the fact I can now put my Mac Pro to sleep!!
