REP-0001: Unable to initialize message subsystem.

Does anybody know what is the cause of REP-0001?
I got that message when I try to run report (2.5) designer r25desm (from an AIX box). I'm connected to the AIX box from my PC (running Exceed CDE).

However, there is no installation manual for Developer/2000 1.6.1 on Solaris. You can look at the manual for other Unix systems (e.g. http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/pdf/A63908_01.pdf), or the manual for 6i (http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/pdf/A82818_01.pdf).

Hi,
You(The user) need to have access permission to read the mesg files. The DBA installing Reports will be able to run the reports.
Grant read access to rwus.msb and rwus.msg files on $ORACLE_HOME/reports/mesg/

I have the message rep-0001 Unable to find the Report Builder message file. Please verify your installation. when I run reports from Oracle applications v11i.

I am working on Report Builder: Release 3.0.5.8.0.
When I run the command r30run I am getting the following error -

Check the location of resource file.
Previously I did not have the $ORACLE_HOME/reports30/mesg folder and hence I was getting the error -
REP-0001: Unable to find the Report Builder message file. Please verify your installation.
My id does not have access to the files in mesg folder.
Could this be a reasn for the REP-0059 error.
Please advise.

it looks as if there was somenting wrong with your installation. i am a bit concerned that you are using a product that old. there is no support available for this product as it has been de-supported for several years now.
i would strongly suggest you move to a more recent release.

I have installed HCM 9 with 8.49.08 PeopleTools on CentOS 5.3 Linux. Everything went fine (I have completed the creation of database) until I am about to start the application server that I have just created. I am getting this error, "TMADMIN_CAT:1607: ERROR: Unable to initialize public key subsystem".

This seems to be the main culprit... GP_CAT:1345: ERROR: pif: can't load 'registry.so' and I have searched this forum and found several suggestions like make sure that LD_LIBRARY_PATH is correctly set .. incorrect permssions, delete the .adm ... etc. I have done all of this suggestions. I even re-installed the Tuxedo 9.1 with the assumption that some files like resistry,.so might have been corrupted but this all did not resolved the issue. I believe I have done my I could before going here asking for help.

XML Report completes with error due to REP-271504897: Unable to retrieve a string from the Report Builder message file.

We are in the middle of testing our R12 Upgrade. I am getting this error from the invoice XML-based report that we are using in R12. (based on log). Only for a specific invoice number that this error is appearing. The trace is not showing me anything. I don't know how to proceed on how to debug where the error is coming from and how to fix this. I found a patch 8339196 that shows exactly the same error number but however, I have to reproduce the error in another test instance before we apply the patch. I created exactly the same order and interface to AR and it doesnt generate an error. I even copied the order and interface to AR and it doesn't complete with error. It is only for this particular invoice that is having an issue and I need to get the root cause as to why. Please help. I appreciate what you all can contribute to identify and fix our issue. We have not faced this issue in R11i that we are maintaining right now for the same program which has been running for sometime. However, after the upgrade for this particular data that the user has created, it is throwing this error REP-271504897.

If you cant reproduce the issue on other instance, apply the patch on the test instance and verify all the funcionality related to the patch works OK. Then move the patch to production. Or you can clone the prod environment to test the patch.

REP-0002: Unable to retrieve a string from the Report Builder message file;

Hi,
I've a custom report in which i need to display a large string, of more than 4000 characters. To cater to this requirement i've written a formula column which displays string upto 4k characters and for a string of size beyond 4k i am calling a procedure which uses a temp table having a clob field.
For a small string the report runs fine but whenever a large string requirement comes into the picture, said procedure gets triggered and i get REP-0002: Unable to retrieve a string from the Report Builder message file.
OPP log for the same gives an output as under:

1) Check that the user running the report has execute permissions on any stored

3) Compile the report against the same instance it is being run against.

Messaging 3.x fails to start with "Unable to initialize" error

Messaging Server fails to start from the Admin Server or by using the "start" command.

The Messaging Server log file will not show any entries.

The problem is most likely due to a missing dbswtich.conf
file or a zero byte file.

The default dbswitch.conf
file contains a single line:

directory default ldapdb:///usr/netscape/suitespot/userdb/ldap/config/lcache.conf/

Restore this file from a backup if possible.

Unlike Admin Server, Messaging Server will require the correct file to be
restored because it immediately looks for its postmaster entries in the LDAP
directory. If you cannot restore the file:

<LI>Place a temporary entry into the
file.
<LI>Start the admin server.
<LI>Enter the correct values into Global Settings,
Configure Directory Service.
<LI>Attempt to start the Messaging Server again.

Tracing utilities (e.g. truss in Solaris) can
help analyze problems where servers fail to start and return little or no
useful errors.

grep dbswitch.conf <trussfile>.

This would usually show admin returning a ENOENT error or reading zero bytes of
data.

I assume when you say "mentioned solutions", those include:
- Generating xorg.conf with aticonfig --initial
- Blacklisting the radeon module
- Generating the fresh fglrx modules with catalyst_build_module all
Also, how've you set it up? AUR, graysky's repository or directly from AMD's website?

i'm using developer/2000 ver 2.1 and my reports running under win95 platform and i'm using client/server techneque, when i start to distribute my reports to my users on their machines i got the above message , and i have to recompile all of my RDF files again on every user machine. this not all my story , but after some period may be 2 months these reports start to give the same message , again i must recompile all my RDF on every user machine.

I belong to your club too it seems. Though in my case the compilation was required on each database. Report used to work in the only that database in which they were compiled. Connecting to other database used to give this string error. Moreover this problem existed only for those reports in which i had used PL/SQL code in the formula columns. One way to avoid this is by writing all PL/SQL code in a library and call it in the formula column calculations.

When trying to download I get error message unable to initialize installer GUI

Unable to initialize session manager

Hi, We are on BOXI R2 SP3 on IIS and we are using SDK to open reports. We ran 1200 users performance testing and we got just 15 failures with the message.
Error in RetrieveReport Internal Error:Unable to Initialize session manager
When I open CCM using Program filesetc then I use to get same error message :"Unable to Initialize session manager". When I search for the ccm shortcut and launch that then it works fine. Now its totally missing from Program Files>> Business Objects options.
Any idea what is the cause? Not sure if this error is related.

This could be because previously only 512 MB was assigned to each sessions. We increased this to 1024 and we are not seeing this error message. There is a registry entry "WINDOWS" in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\SubSystems.
In WINDOWS Key the value is "WIndows Shared Section=1024,3072,512" We made it to "WIndows Shared Section=1024,3072,1024"

I'm having the 'unable to initialize hdv deck' problem. I am trying to capture HD footage from a Sony HVR-A1E camera. iLink and down conversion are off (like they should be) and I have just captured a HD tape before the problem started.
I don't understand how I could capture HD footage just fine and then without touching any settings (just trying to start capture again) I suddenly get the error message, "Unable to initialize HDV deck. Please make sure a deck is connected and try again."
Any ideas?

Definitely. Shot on HDV, definite difference between the clips I've captured so far (HD capture that worked fine before this is high quality sharp image, where as when capturing in SD, image quality is poor and smaller).
Everything has been filmed on the same camera with no setting changes between shots. Like I said before, I have already been able to capture today in HD just fine, but for some unknown reason (which I don't think is the prefs.) capture will not work. I can 'trick' FCE into HD capture but it gets stuck on cueing tape (even though video is playing fine on camera).

"Unable to initialize video deck" inquiry

I am new to Mac and FCE, so I ask for some slack...
I am trying to get video from my Panasonic AG DVX 100 into FCE.
About my system: IMac 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with OS X 10.5.2. I have FCE 4 on this computer, not an upgrade of earlier program, but version 4, straight out of the box. I know FCE is working, because I have edited a hour long project on it.
Here's my issue: With the first project complete, I want to import some new video into FCE and start another project. I connect the camera to the Mac via firewire (the white cable that I bought at the Mac store). When I go to "File" in FCE, I go to capture, and I get the following message:
*"Unable to initialize video deck. You may still use capture now."*
I continue by selecting "capture now." The capture window appears with "preview disabled" on the color bars, "no communication" at the bottom of the window. I hit "capture now" in the bottom right and I get the following message:
*"Attempt to capture video without a video device selected. Please select a video device in your capture presets and try again."*
I can't seem to track down "capture presets" , so that's my first issue. This was not a problem the first time I captured video. While at the Mac store, we plugged the camera into other Macs, but still would not get a signal. On FC, it would recognize the camera for a second or two, then flash the "no communication" error. The Mac folks believed it was a camera video out issue.
Some additional factors:
1. it's not the video output on this particular camera. Since that Mac store visit, I hooked it up to another computer and I could see video. So I'm confident that the camera will send video through this firewire.
2. Back to my original project, I imported video into FCE using this cable and a different mini dv camera (sony). It worked with the Sony camera, but will not work with this Panasonic.
I asked another friend, a MAC/FC/Panasonic DVX 100 guy, and he has never encountered this particular error message. He believes it's some setting within the computer that can be fixed through a software patch.
I would be most grateful for insight into solving what is likely a problem others have experienced. Please keep in mind that I am new to this whole process, and will likely show this thread to the people at the Mac store during my next one-on-one class.

Thanks for your suggestion. I did check the firewire to ensure it's securely in place, and it seems like it is.
I did connect this camera and this firewire into a friend's macbook, and the signal was successfully received.
So I don't think it's a "loose wire" possibility. We also checked another camera into my Mac's firewire port, and it was successful.
So for some unknown reason, this particular Mac will not recognize this particular camera.
Again, your insights are greatly appreciated.
