Report Builder: ContentType Field shows always "System.Byte[]"

Hello Community!
I use the following systems:
SharePoint 2013
SQL Server 2012 Report Builder 3.0
So, I have a SharePoint List with some columns (Responsible Person, Serial Number, Content Type).
Responsible Person and Serial Number is displayed correctly. But in the field Content Type, I have seen "System.Byte[]" instead of the realy value of Content Type.
When I execute query, I have seen realy value of the field Content Type!
Could anybody help me?
Thanks a lot und greets from austria!
Daniel

Hi Daniel ,
According to your description, when you use SharePoint list as data source, the Content Type display as "System.Byte[]" instead of real value when running the report.
As we tested in our environment, Content Type can display correctly both in query designer and preview results. Please refer to our test results below to check if you design the report correctly:
1. Type the query in dataset like below:
2. Run the report:
Besides, it has reported the same issue with Content Type. In your scenario, please also try to use XML data source to connect to SharePoint list to retrieve data. For more information, please refer to this similar thread:
Reporting: ContentType Field Value always "System.Byte[]". If issue persists, please create the same report in SSDT and run the report, then check if there are warning messages in output.
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • SSRS (Report Builder 3.0) Showing all values for Multiple Line field with Append Changes

I have a simple SharePoint list with a multiple line column that has append changes enabled. I am doing a report with Report Builder 3.0 and I want to show all values of the field the same way you achieve it through a DVWP using:<SharePoint:AppendOnlyHistory
    FieldName="Comments" runat="server"
    ControlMode="Display" ItemId="{@ID}"/>
Any suggestions to show all the appended values?

    Hi,
I am trying to involve someone familiar with this topic to further look at this issue.

  • SQL Server Report Builder Numeric Field Formatting

I am creating Reports in SQL Server Report builder.
When I set format of any number fields, in design it is displaying sample value.
For e.g. If I set format 0.00 to one numeric field, it started to display 12345.00
I have 10-12 fields in design, it caused very much confusion.
Is there any solution to change this?
When I open report in Visual Studio, it doesn't display like that.
    Check Following screenshots:
    In Report Builder:
    In Visual Studio:

    Hi Harsh10,
If I understand correctly, there are two placeholders in each textbox in the report. You want the second placeholder which contains numeric field to format as 0.00. If in this scenario, we can refer to the following steps:
Right-click the second placeholder which contains numeric field in each textbox to open the Placeholder Properties dialog box.
Click Number in the left pane.
Select Number with Decimal places ‘2’ in the Category drop-down list.

    Hi,
Check in system default parameter settings. It works based on system default parameter settings.
System => User Profile => Own Data
In *Defaults* tab check the *Decimal Notaion* field.

  • CF Report Builder and Excel format

    Hi Everyone,
I was trying to display a report in excel format in report builder. It shows the data, but I do not find the print button options, whereas I can see it with other formats. Is this the way it is, or do I need to format anything more within my report for showing up the print button option? This is only happening for excel format
    Thanks

    Hi Keiko,
Yes, CF Report builder is new and initially there was few
issues with this. But I guess now it's good after hotfixes.
Well, I am using CF Report Builder. It's good for me. You can
also design and develop complex reports, that depends upon the
query you are writing. You can also add subreports to your main
    reports.
Mainly CF Report is platform independent and you can also
generate reports in PDF, EXCEL and FlashPaper.
Crystal Report is no doubt is very good, and it's there for
long years. I agree you can create complex reports with this, but
you also can do the same in CF also. You are using this for last 10
years, so I guess you should try something new and that is CF
Report Builder and you can judge then.
I am sure you will have fun with CF.
    Thanks

  • Refresh of a Report Builder Dataset does NOT show newly added field

I'm working with Report Builder 2.0 (we don't plan on getting SQL 2008 R2 - so NO 3.0 for us!) and have found that if I have an existing report using an existing stored procedure (it has 4 existing parameters) and I add a new field to the stored procedure
    it will not refresh the
data set.  I have gone to the DataSet properties and executed the query(SPROC) where it does show the new field (so I know the sproc will
execute), but when I click OK and hit Refresh Fields it stops responding.  I also tried the same steps without the Refresh Fields and still stops responding.  I also tried to add the field name and it errored out as invalid.
The only work around I've found is to
create a new dataset referencing the updated SPROC with a different name, deleting the old dataset and then re-naming the newer dataset with the old
one's name so all the field references are the same.  I do know that in the case of renaming
a field in a sproc that this would end BADLY because there is no way any of the old field's references would work.
But it seems odd I have to go through so much to refresh for new fields, so perhaps I'm missing a step in dealing with this situation.  Any recommendations would be appreciated.

    Hi CinBH,
I understand that the Report Builder 2.0 hangs while flush the dataset by executing the query. In that case, I think it is necessary to capture a user dump when the problem occurred. And then, you can send the dump to Microsoft CSS support. Support Professionals
from Microsoft will assist you to solve the problem.
I am providing the steps below for you to gather the hang dump or crash dump to further work on this issue,
    Hang dump,
    a. Open Report Builder as usual, and wait for a while.
    b. When you found that the Report Builder application hang, and was not responding, please open TaskManager by one of follws,
    - Pressing “Ctrl + Alt + Del” button and then click “Start Task Manager” item.
    - Or right-clicking your task bar, click “Start Task Manager”menu.
    c. Once the Task Manager opened, switch to Process tab, find the “Report Builder” process MSReportBuilder.exe.
    d. Right-click the item, click Create dump file.
    e. After that, it will prompt a window and let you know the location of the dump file.
You can copy the hang dump or crash dump file to your development machine configured with symbols files, and open it in Visual Studio 2008. Next, you can analyze the error / exception, and call stacks to see why the error happens.
    Thanks,
    Eileen

  • SSRS- report builder showing recent sites and server as blank

    Hi All,
A client of ours when executes Report builder is not able to see Report models as report builder just gets open but do not create connection to server.
We have done the following settings for same:
Used both name and IP of system and added the same to Trusted Sites in IE settings
Also we have used port number along with URL for report builder.
We have given all rites to user on reporting services (SQL)
But it is still not showing report models.
Kindly help us.  It is very urgent.
    Thanks in advance
    -Regards
    Kumud

    Hi Kumud,
According to your description, your client can't see the created report models in Report Builder. Right?
In this scenario, the reason why the client can't see the report models because he doen't connect to report server. Please click the
Connect at the left bottom of Report Builder and type the report server url manually to reconnect the report server.
If the connection is failed, please check if there any process on client side which occupies the port for report server URL. Here are two articles for your reference to do troubleshooting.
Report Builder 3.0 error : Connection Failed. Unable to connect to the server that is specified in the URL
    Connecting to Report Server
Since the Semantic modeling language (SMDL) report models are deprecated. Although you can you continue to use existing report models as data sources in SQL Server 2012 or later version Reporting Services reports you should consider updating your reports
to remove their dependency on report models.
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

  • How to hide a report builder field if it is zero

I am using Coldfusion Report Builder. If the value of a feild is zero, how can I hide it or show a blank. Keep in mind this field is a DollarFormat() field.

When you click on the field in Report Builder, look near the bottom of the Properties window, in the "Print Control" section.
You will see an entry labelled "Print When Condition". Put an expression next to it that returns true or false.
For example, in your case, you would put something like the following:
    MyField neq 0
Where "MyField" is the name of your field. This expression will only allow the field to be printed when its value is not zero.
Since you're targeting the value of the field you don't have to worry about the formatting that you used next to "Expression" in the "Data" section of the Properties window.

  • Reports builder shows startup screen and hangs...

    hi all.
my reports builder does normally start when i double click its icon, and shows the welcome splash screen. but then nothing happens anymore. the process is being shown in the task manager, but nothing more.
i installed some oracle 6.x applications AFTER the installation of iDS90200, so might this be the problem?
    thank you for your help.

    Hi Joshua,
This depends on your environment, so very difficult to pin-point the problem. However, you can check your system PATH to make sure it points to the iDS JDK directories, eg,
    D:\Oracle\iDS10g\jdk\jre\bin\classic;D:\Oracle\iDS10g\jdk\jre\bin;D:\Oracle\iDS10g\jdk\jre\bin\client;D:\Oracle\iDS10g\jdk\bin;D:\Oracle\iDS10g\jlib

  • Comparing fields from multiple entities in the same report (report builder 1.0)

Created a model that contains 2 entities. I open that model in report builder 1.0.  When I drag a field from one of the entities into the design area, i can no longer see the other entity or use any of the fields from that other entity.
I need to use fields from both entities in the same report (join tables).  In management studio i would simply write a query and join tables but i cannot figure out how to do this in report builder.  Once i select a field from one entity
how do i select fields from more than one entity and drag them into the same report.

Would it be possible for you to send me instructions for this? I am not that familiar with SQL coding but I can definitely figure it out. I have been wanting to get information on reports from multiple entities for a very long time! The only way I can
currently do it is have our document management software people write the report for me for quite a large fee. I would much rather do this myself. Right now I can select a few fields from one entity (the main one), some from a second entity under that one,
but I cannot add any fields from a third entity! Quite annoying and hindering! Thank you :)

  • User inputted letters with dynamic fields in Report Builder

I'm proactively trying to get certain aspects off our hands in IT and more specifically, the way letters are generated through ColdFusion.  Right now we are using activeX controls (with some vbscript and asp pages) through IE to do Word mail merges for letter's for our students.  We would like the user to be able to change these letters by themselves through our web application and have them saved in our database so they can be stored as a future template.
Now I'm new to Report Builder and have a few examples to show my colleagues, but I'm having troubles being able to dynamically insert the student's name (for example) into the report.
So basically I have an empty template with a huge dynamic box for the text which reads #param.MessageBody# that comes from a textarea within the cfm page.  That works, but taking it one step further, I want to replace all instances of "%%StudentName%%" within that MessageBody with the actual student's name.
Since I cannot loop over the report and do my usual ReplaceNoCase(lMessageBody, "%%StudentName%%", Trim(ReportQueryLetters.StudentName), "ALL")>, how can I put this into a built-in function into the report?
I figured the function needs to be in <cffunction name="BeforeExport"> and while a simple display of the message works perfectly, I cannot get my replace line to work.  I am passing the query to Report Builder instead of having it built-in, is that my problem?!  I would prefer if it was external to save my stored procedures if I can.  Is there any way to call the query to get that line to work?!
The code inside the cffunction (in report Builder):
    <cfargument name="lTextArea">
    <cfset lTextArea = #form.frmTextArea#>
    <cfset lTextArea = ReplaceNoCase(lTextArea, "%%StudentName%%", Trim(ReportQueryLetters.StudentName), "ALL")>
    <cfreturn lTextArea>
    The error:
Element STUDENTNAME is undefined in REPORTQUERYLETTERS.

Sorry for the late reply, just got back from vacation.
I don't think you use ReportQueryLetters for the query.  it should be
    query.StudentName
Also, you can have an intermediate step on the page that receives the
MessageBody and change the MessageBody before passing it as a parameter to the
    report.

  • Subject in Email is always "Report sent from Report Builder"

We run Forms 6.08 in C/S - architecture.
    Forms calls reports:

    add_Parameter(pl_id,'DESTYPE',TEXT_PARAMETER, 'Mail');
    Run_Product(reports, 'MY_Report', SYNCHRONOUS, BATCH, Filesystem, pl_id);

  • Display field as Verticaly in Report Builder

    Hello Guys.
I have question regarind to field. I have generate a report where i have group_by_column template. Now, I need to rotate my group column heading from Horizontal to Vertical. Does anyone know how to rotate the field from Horizontal to Vertical side way?
For example: Let see i have report like
    col_1 col_2 col_3
    Honda Accord $25000
    civic $25350
    CR-V $19000
    Odyssey $32000
So, as you see above example where HONDA is my group by col_1. I need to rotate HONDA from Horizontal to Vertical. Is it possible in Report Builder and if it can you guys tell me how to do it?
I know DMARS have answer for me...please let me know that will be a great help.
    Thank You

In the paper layout you will have to expand the frame that contains col1 to be able to rotate col1. Once you have the frame big enough, select the col1 field. Over on the tool palette click on the rotate button...third button down on the right column. Click on one of the 4 corners of the col1 field and rotate it. You will get an error if it doesn't fit. Also, you can only rotate boilerplate text so you will have to change your field into a text or boilerplate item. Look to see the source of your col1 field and then delete the field on the paper layout. Put a text iten in its place. Put the following text in there "&col1" or whatever the source of your col1 field was. Do not include the double quotes. Now you can rotate the item. If you need more details, search for "rotate" in Reports Builder help.
