  • MacBook Pro Health and safety issue: Potential Burn during normal use

    Hi,
I am not a complainer. I worked for Apple of 6+ years and have had a top of the line Apple Notebook since Apple created the concept of the laptop notebook.
I recently experienced a 3rd degree burn using my MacBook Pro that I think Apple needs to warn folks about:
    MacBook Pro 17"
    Machine Model: MacBookPro1,2
    CPU Type: Intel Core Duo
    Number Of Cores: 2
    CPU Speed: 2.16 GHz
    L2 Cache (shared): 2 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 667 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MBP12.0061.B00
    Serial Number: ()
    SMC Version: 1.5f10
    Sudden Motion Sensor:
    State: Enabled
I had my laptop on my lap. I was wearing shorts. It noticed that it was warm on my leg where the left side of the MacBook Pro was touching my leg, but it didn't create a reflex pain response.
Upon completing my session, when I closed the machine and put it away, I noticed a 1 inch x .75 inch blister on my leg where it had been touching the MacBook/Pro; and it has turn out to be a significant burn.
I checked all the documentaiton that came with my MacBook Pro and there was no warning about the potential of this situation.
I recommend that Apple let owners know, perhaps through an email or a popup when they visit the Apple site. Lastly, when I encountered this issue, I wasn't running any high performance, compute bound applications. It was email. So, I have to believe that it is possible to detect wait states within the processes running and take the processors to a low power mode of operation when they are not performing actual work. Am I out in left field here?
I want Apple to be successful. I haven't heard of a similar complaint on any of the high performance PC's at work. Beyond a Health and Safety issue, this is also a reputation issue. Better to face into the storm and honestly deal with this issue.

MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.5) Potential Health and Safety Issue- 3rd degreee burn potential under normal use

Mike... I do sympathize with your situation but let me correct you:
I recently experienced a 3rd degree burn using my
    MacBook Pro
Do you know what a 3rd degree burn is? A 3rd degree burn involves the dermis, and is full thickness involving the subcutaneous tissues and fat underneath your skin layers. This is something that usually happens when man meets fire, electrocution, and chemical burns. A 3rd degree burn is not typically achieved by a simple transfer of energy by conduction, unless extreme heat for an extended period of time.
I had my laptop on my lap. I was wearing shorts. It
noticed that it was warm on my leg where the left
side of the MacBook Pro was touching my leg, but it
didn't create a reflex pain response.
Reflex pain response? Don't try to make up medical terminology. You didn't feel it much like you don't feel the sun when you get a sunburn initially... your skin slowly adjusted to the temperature, and at some point the heat increased over the threshold of which causes damage. You should have gone to the doctor if you were overly concerned.
Upon completing my session, when I closed the machine
    and put it away, I noticed a 1 inch x .75 inch
blister on my leg where it had been touching the
MacBook/Pro; and it has turn out to be a significant
    burn.
You're right, if you have a 1inch by almost 1 inch heat related blister on your leg, it is bad, nothing that I would consider significant. That is less then 1% of your body, probably about 0.25% to 0.5%, and only a 2nd degree burn. Your most significant complication would be a local skin infection.
I checked all the documentaiton that came with my
MacBook Pro and there was no warning about the
    potential of this situation.
Actually... I'd hate to call you a liar, but I'm pretty sure that it does warn about burns.
To confirm this, apple has also information online:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=30612
I recommend that Apple let owners know, perhaps
through an email or a popup when they visit the Apple
    site.
    They do... link above.
Lastly, when I encountered this issue, I wasn't
running any high performance, compute bound
applications. It was email. So, I have to believe
that it is possible to detect wait states within the
processes running and take the processors to a low
power mode of operation when they are not performing
actual work. Am I out in left field here?
No, you're definitely not. Here's where I start to agree with you. For the computer to heat up that much, when not doing things like rendering video is abnormal, and you deserve to have apple check out your computer. I think you should contact them on this concern.
I want Apple to be successful. I haven't heard of a
similar complaint on any of the high performance PC's
at work. Beyond a Health and Safety issue, this is
also a reputation issue. Better to face into the
storm and honestly deal with this issue.
It's harder for other manufacturers... our computers are aluminum, designed to disperse the heat. Technically they are considered "portables" not laptops, but I don't get into that argument because I disagree with the word "portable"... it's meant to work on your lap, and if you can't comfortably using regular apps, you deserve an answer.
A slightly crisp, but loyal, MacBook Pro user.
Hey, at least you're taking it with some humor. It's a shame you had to get hurt as a result of your computer. If I were you I would have gone to your Primary Care Physician, documented the burn, and returned your computer for a new one, and for something say, a free iPod for your pain.
Sorry you got hurt, I think you should have your heat issue professionally investigated through apple care

  • Health and Safety

    Hi
Do SAP have or do a Health and Safety or Safety Managment Module or functionality?
    Thanks

    Hi

  • Report on current stock and safety stock

    Hi,
I want to have the report on current stock and safety stock.
In MC.9 it gives wrong safety stock. When I go to cross check the safety stock in material master & in MC.9 I see differences.
    Thanks,
    Kiran

You can user tcode MC.9 or MC.5 to know valuated stock available at given plant. Stock lying in Returns (MB52) will not be a part of this report as it non-valuated stock.
The stock in the accounting view of the material master considers stock at plant level including stock in Transit (Intra & Inter plant stock trasnfers) & special stock like stock issued to vendor , consigment stock etc which is valuated at plant level.
whereas and stock in the plant stock view of the material master does not consider such special stocks hence there will always difference in both veiws.
For Physical stock as on particular date you can consider MB5B report with radio button "Storage location/Batch Stock" wherein you will get Quantity issued & Qunatity received in those SLOC along with Opening stock & Closing stock for the specified period.
    use tcode
MBLB to know stock at vendor.
    MB54 - Consignment Stock.

  • Environmental Health and Safety (EHS-Module)

    Hi Experts,
Can any one suggests Books for Environmental Health and Safety (EHS-Module)

    KC,
You did answer your own question here. Yes, you probably have to build out your health and safety solution. You would have to look at the individual technical requirements for each IDES instance to understand what might be possible.

  • Manager says he needs an SAP Environmental, Health, and Safety Person

What are the buzz words for this module?
It is completely new to me and I don't know where to begin
    annak

    Hi Anna,
SAP EH&S consists basically of 5 different modules:
    - Product Safety
    - Hazardous Substance Management
    - Dangerous Goods Management
    - Waste Management
    - Occupational Health & Industrial Hygiene and Safety
A good starting point should be the SAP Online Documentation: <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_47x200/helpdata/en/a5/3adda043be11d188fe0000e8322f96/frameset.htm">http://help.sap.com/saphelp_47x200/helpdata/en/a5/3adda043be11d188fe0000e8322f96/frameset.htm</a>
All modules are using a specification database where you can store data based on classes and characteristics in SAP's class system as well as compositions, identifier, material assignments, usages, ...
Based on the data you can do calculations with rulesets. For example based on a certain environmental regulation that tells you: <i>if your product contains xx% of this substance you have to label it as toxic</i>. Then you can generate Material Safety Data Sheets for your products or other relevant documents (depending on the module) and ship them to your customers.
    Hope it helps,
    Andreas

  • Relation between PLM and QM modules

What is the relation between PLM and QM modules?
These two are different modules or QM is one of the module in PLM and there is no module as PLM and its just general term?
Why QM is many times called with PLM - QM?

    Hi Sandip,
mySAP PLM has many key features like:
    1.Collabarative Engineering and Design.
    2. Custom Product Development
    3. Knowledge Management
    4. Project Management
    5.Colloborative Maintenance management
    6. QUALITY MANAGEMENT

and Allow employees to play a central role in quality management
and it also Satisfy criteria for ISO 9000 and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)</u>
Tracking the Product through out its life from a quality perspective is PLM-QM
The Functionality that Spans the Entire Product & Asset Life Cycle are:
    1. Life Cycle Data Management (MM, BOM, DMS, CAD Interface, Classification System)
    2. Program & Project Management(Project System, Collaboration Folders, Collaboration Projects, XRPM, xAPPS)

  • Reporting in Oracle BO and CO.

We have successfully setup the Oracle BO and CO versions 13.0.1.
With vanilla BO application, we get the Reporting tab once we login (Admin user).
In that we have 2 sub-tabs, Sales and Financials which are visible. If we see the reportImport.xml, there are reports related to Storeops and Time maintenance. We also have some rtf's and xml's for the (vanilla) StoreOps and Time maintenance.
    My questions are
    a) How do we enable the subtabs related to these reports (StoreOps and Time maintenance) ?
    b) How do I add another sub-tabs ?
I did some analysis and could find that these are related to 'categories' and the categories are stored in XMLP_RPT table, but how do we display these categories in the Report Tab ?
Similarly, for CO, I could display the Report tab once we login (Report tab is not vanilla functionality). But I am unable to display the sub-tabs and other navigation links such as 'My Favorite Reports' and 'Schdeuled Reports'. Any pointers to relevant files which we need to modify ?
Really appreciate any help on this.
    Thanks,
    Abhishek

    A) This seems to be issue with permissions given to user. You have to add new permissions to provide access to that reports.

  • SAP Crystal Reports 2011: Error INS00140 and other install errors

    Hi all,
There have been many customers who have downloaded the Crystal Reports 2011 installation package and have run into an error when the installer attempts to recognize the keycode being used.  The error received is "The Product Keycode is not valid INS00140."
This thread is meant to track all current resolutions that have been determined based on troubleshooting with customers thus far. In addition, the thread will provide you with the list of things that we need to know in order to properly troubleshoot the issue.
Before attempting any of the steps below, please be sure that you are using the latest version of Crystal Reports 2011 which is SP02. You can download this version from the SAP [website|http://www.sap.com/solutions/sap-crystal-solutions/query-reporting-analysis/sapcrystalreports/index.epx].
    Coy
    ====================
    Resolution Options
Windows XP & Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable
If you are installing Crystal Reports 2011 on Windows XP, then you need to ensure that the following Microsoft patches are not installed on the machine. You can check this by using the Add / Remove Programs dialogue.
    KB2467175
    KB2467174
    KB2467173
If any of these are installed, then please remove them before attempting to install Crystal Reports 2011.
Installing with Dashboard Design 2011 or Presentation Design 2011
If you are installing Crystal Reports 2011 on the same machine as Dashboard Design 2011 or Presentation Design 2011, then there may be a problem with the registry key that points to the location of the keydecoder DLL. To check this, launch run regedit and navigate to the following location:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SAP BusinessObjects\Suite XI 4.0\Shared Tools\keydecoder.dll
You want to make sure that the "path" key is pointing to the valid path for the keydecoder.dll. The correct path to the DLL should be: C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win32_x8keydecoder.dll.
    Uppercase License Key
In addition to the above, you need to make sure that you are entering the license key in all uppercase characters. There is a current issue with the installer where it does not accept lower case characters.
Fix - Coming in SP02, but can implement manually for now
Locate the BCM-4-0.dll.2.Config file in the <install package directory>\dunit\product.crystalreports-4.0-core-32\actions
(replace crystalreports with crystalreportsjava for CR for Ent and xcelsius for dashboards)
    Open BCM-4-0.dll.2.Config
    Locate this line:
    <bindingRedirect oldVersion="8.0.50727.0-8.0.50727.1434" newVersion="8.0.50727.4053" />
Modify the oldVersion number to make the line like this one:
    <bindingRedirect oldVersion="8.0.50727.0-8.0.50727.4053" newVersion="8.0.50727.4053" />
This should allow you to install without issue.
    Further Troubleshooting
If none of the above helps to resolve the issue, then we need the following:
The installation logs from the following folder: C:\Documents and Settings\<YOUR USER NAME>\Local Settings\Temp\<DATE OF YOUR LAST ATTEMPTED INSTALLATION>
The results from attempting to run the keycode validator directly. You can find it under the folders that contain the installation package. For example, C:\Documents and Settings\<YOUR USER NAME>\My Documents\CrystalReports2011\DATA_UNITS\CrystalReports\dunit\product.crystalreports-4.0-core 32\actions\isKeyCodeValid.exe -keycode <YOUR KEYCODE> -version 140 -property CR.EnableCR
You should submit a new forum post with relevant details about the error and provide links to download the logs generated by following the above steps.
Edited by: Don Williams on Dec 22, 2011 7:53 AM

    Then try these:
    1. Download the latest version of the installation package for Crystal Reports 2011. To verify the version of extracted package, open productid.txt file located at: {installation package}\DATA_UNITS\CrystalReports\.
Make sure it is not less than 14.0.2...
    2. Where to download Crystal Reports 2011 installation from: - free trial from SAP Online shop http://www.sap.com/solutions/sapbusinessobjects/sme/freetrials/index.epx - from SDN Community page http://service.sap.com/sap/bc/bsp/spn/bobj_download/main.htm - from Service Market Place http://service.sap.com/sbop-downloads Note: downloads from all above listed locations are fully functional product installations. Trial version defined by expiring key code, not by functionality limitations.
    3. Copy the installation package to a hard drive if possible to avoid any networking issues.
    4. Login to the machine as Local ADMINISTRATOR.
    5. Temporary disable any kind of firewall, antivirus, network security etc., if possible.
    6. On the latest versions of Windows, even if logged in as local Administrator, right-click the setup.exe and select "Run as Administrator". If do not have Administrator account, right click "Run as" Select current user and uncheck the "Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity".
    7. Make sure there is enough space on the computer. If not sure about the space, run "Custom" installation with minimum components. Non-mandatory components could be added at any time.
    8. Finally, if there is an existing "InstallData" folder under C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects rename it to "InstallDataOLD"
